I've been wanting to play around with this ot3 for a while. Venus is my friend BrainyxBat's OC, Rafael is my OC, and both of them love Wasabi so I thought it would be fun to write a little two-shot where the trio gets together. There's a lot of exposition in here for anyone who hasn't read any of my stories, so apologies for that. Chapter two coming soon-ish.
Enjoy!
Wesley "Wasabi" Ginger had never intended to fall in love with anyone, and now he'd gone and done it twice.
His partner, Venus Woods, the love of his life, was standing next to him when it hit him like a truck for the second time. Standing a few feet away at the dance class they'd decided to take as a couple was the second most beautiful person Wasabi had ever seen.
He couldn't tell if this person was a girl or a guy or neither, so he decided the best course of action was to ask directly, emboldened for once.
"V," He said in a low voice, "Let's go talk to that person."
He didn't expect anything to come of it, he was in a happy relationship already, but he had to at least know this stranger's name, or else he wouldn't stop thinking about it for weeks.
"Oh, okay." Venus sensed something was up since Wasabi didn't usually like talking to people, but she could ask about it in the car on the way home, for now, she followed him over to the attractive stranger.
"Oh, hi, I haven't seen you two here before. I'm Rafael. They/them."
"Wesley, he/him."
"I'm Catherine, she/they, but everyone calls me Venus," Venus said with the bright smile that had made Wasabi fall in love with her a thousand times.
"It's nice to meet both of you. This your first time doing ballet?"
"No, I used to do it when I was younger. I'm trying to get into it again," Wasabi explained. Pre-transition Wes had really liked ballet until his mother had become overbearing about it. Now he was trying to reclaim those positive memories.
"I did it for a bit, I mostly did gymnastics though. We thought it would be fun to do together," Venus said, wrapping her arm around Wasabi's arm.
"Hell yeah, we see that a lot here, people taking the class with their partner."
"What about you?" Wasabi asked, a little more forward than he'd intended to be.
"Oh yeah, one of my partners takes this class. I don't think she's here yet but I'll introduce you when she gets here."
Those words stuck in Wasabi's head, "one of my partners." Rafael made it sound so easy. Love had never been easy for Wes.
Now Venus could tell that there was definitely something going on. Wasabi seemed distant, troubled. At least he seemed to be enjoying the class, but there was clearly something on his mind.
"Did you know that guy?" Venus asked in the car.
"Hm? Rafael? No."
"The way you reacted, I wondered if it was someone you knew before you transitioned," Venus said.
"I think I'd remember them," Wasabi said.
"So what's up? You don't seem like yourself today."
Wasabi could admit that that was true. Falling in love was still unfamiliar territory. Venus made it easier because Venus was so patient and vibrant and easy to love, but sometimes he still felt so unworthy and incapable of having a healthy relationship.
Wasabi gripped the steering wheel.
"I really love you, you know?"
"I know, Wes. I love you too."
"Thank you… Thank you for loving me back, thank you for being there for me, because it's… Relationships have always been difficult. I didn't think anyone would ever love me so I thought I was safer never loving anyone and then I met you and you made me want to tear down my walls."
"And I'm so glad you did," Venus said, putting a hand on his shoulder. "Plus, you know I felt the same way. Jack made me think I was worthless, and you make me feel like the most precious thing on earth."
Venus' older brother Jack had tormented her for years, but now that she lived with Wasabi she could finally have the space and time to rebuild her self-image in peace.
Wasabi smiled, "I'm really glad we found each other, V."
"Me too. But I know something's troubling you, so what's up? If you don't tell me I'll tell Khary and he'll bug you until you tell us."
Wes's younger brother Khary lived with them since things had gotten even worse in the Ginger household since Wes had moved out and began transitioning. Their older brother Damon lived in another city over an hour away so Wes had taken Khary in so that he could keep going to school with his friends but didn't have to deal with their mother's bigoted bullshit. Khary and Venus were thick as thieves, and she was right, Khary would pester Wesley incessantly if he thought something was wrong.
"What I've been trying to say is that falling in love is hard but it was instantaneous with you."
"And?" Venus knew there wasn't something that he wasn't saying.
"And I think it's happened again."
"What?"
"When I saw Rafael I got all these butterflies I haven't felt since when I first met you and then, talking to them just made me sure. I have feelings for Rafael."
Venus sat in stunned silence. That was the last thing she'd been expecting.
"I'm so sorry, Venus, I didn't mean to, it just happened."
"Hey," Venus said suddenly, "don't apologize. I'm glad you're telling me, so we can figure it out together."
"Together," Wasabi agreed, still feeling incredibly anxious.
"What would you like to do?" Venus asked after a minute, "I mean, how would you like to approach your feelings for them?"
"I'd like to… I don't know, Venus. I feel like that by even entertaining the idea I'm being a terrible boyfriend to you."
"You're not, Wes. Love is complicated. In an ideal, uncomplicated world, what would you want to do?"
"I'd want to date both of you," Wasabi said, speaking quickly because he knew he wouldn't be able to say it again.
"Okay," Venus said.
"Okay? What do you mean?"
"I mean Rafael doesn't seem to have any qualms against dating more than one person. And they seem really cool, I'd definitely like to get to know them more myself."
Wasabi was stunned, "You really mean that?"
"Of course I do, Wes. I love you and I know you love me. Our relationship is strong so of course, I don't mind opening it. I'm not scared or jealous because I know you. I trust you. You'd never do anything to hurt me."
"I love you so much," Wasabi said, blown away by Catherine's support. Of course, he'd known she would always support him but this seemed like it would've been a deal breaker for anyone less amazing than her.
"I'm still a little worried about it, though," Wes admitted.
"Yeah? Wanna talk about it?"
"Yeah. I'm so lucky to have you in my life, I just… I don't know if I can do it. I don't know if I could date someone else if someone else would even want to date me."
"Rafael would be lucky to date you. We don't have to do anything you don't want to do, but it wouldn't hurt to ask them on a date, with you or with both of us."
"I'd like it if you were there," Wasabi said, "if we did that."
"I'd love to be there. I've got your back, Wesley. I'll always be there."
"I'm so lucky," Wasabi said again, parking the car in front of their apartment and leaning over to kiss her.
The kiss was short and sweet and when Venus pulled away she was grinning.
"We both are."
