A/N: Okay! So, in this story, Nana and Corban are both preteens. Nana does not have a specific age, but she is theoretically around "three years older" than Corban, if one goes by the Erine timeline. For the sake of the story, let's just say they both appear to be about 11 years old, since Nana is always going to appear younger than she really is anyway due to her origins. š
Chapter 5: Picnic (Corbana)
"Would you care for some tea, milady?" Corban asked playfully as he held out a small teapot to Nana, who nodded enthusiastically and picked up her saucer. "Okay, just a minute. Let me get thisā¦" He stuck his tongue out a bit in concentration as he used both hands to pour the hot tea, grinning as it landed perfectly in the cup. "Ooh, I got it without spilling anything." He carefully set the pot down as Nana took a sip of the tea, sighing blissfully at the taste and warmth. "Is it good?"
She nodded, smiling. Nana's tastes were a healthy blend of Sofia and Cedric. Like Cedric, she loved sweets and tea, but like Sofia, she also enjoyed trying new things. Of course, anything strawberry (or any berries, really) tended to be off limits, for obvious reasons. However, other foods she was generally open to. She'd been growing quite a bit recently, finally reaching a somewhat-below average stature for most girls her age. Of course, she was always going to be smaller, just simply because of her nature and background. Still, she was like many other girls around her age. She loved dolls, dressing up, eating sweets, reading stories, playing games, and spending time with her friends and family.
And Corban was her favorite person to spend time with, though that shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. Ever since they were really little, both she and Corban had been practically attached at the hip. The adults had always cooed in delight over their closeness and sweetness, and not much had really changed about that as time had gone by.
Sadly, she still held no ability to speak. It was fine, though. Her communication was quite clear through her eyes, facial expressions, or physical gestures with her arms and hands. And since Tanya was still able to communicate with her telepathically, she got the message across more often than not. Like Sofia, she liked to wear her long pink hair in either a ponytail or half-up style (the latter of which she'd chosen today), and she rather liked her traveling magic wielder clothing (red, pink, and green in color scheme, naturally).
"Oh, and here are some tarts, Nana! Don't worry, though. I made sure no strawberry was in there." He grinned as she sighed and looked relieved. "This one has chocolate though." He handed her one, smiling happily as she accepted it. "And I got one too. Cheers?"
Nana nodded happily and "toasted" her tart with Corban's, like they'd seen some of the adults do with those fancy glasses, and munched on her treat. Her eyes lit up when she bit into the chocolate pastry, offering her friend a pleased expression.
"Heh, I did good picking it out?" Seeing her enthusiastic nod, he smiled and sheepishly scratched the back of his head. "Thanks, Nanaā¦" He took a bite of his own chocolate tart and sighed happily. "Mm, it's so goodā¦"
The young girl held one hand to her mouth, like she was laughing, before reaching up with a cloth napkin and wiping some leftover chocolate form his mouth. She smirked as she set the napkin aside, noting his small blush.
He shrugged. "I guess I'm a messy eater sometimes⦠Amber always says James was." He grinned. "I'm just like my big brother!"
Nana nodded before taking his hands, startling him a bit. She released them and, when she knew she had his attention, she crossed her hands over her heart and then extended them toward him, her smile never faltering.
Corban returned her smile, mimicking her actions. "I love you too, Nana. Thanks for having a picnic with me today. I wouldn't want to have one with anyone else."
Her smile turned shy as she signed 'you're welcome' in her own silent way before hugging him, happy to feel him return it just as eagerly.
Like always.
