Chapter 2 – Elizabeth Thatcher

Elizabeth was brought up in a civilized, wealthy family that had more money than they knew what to do with. Her father, William, was a shipping tycoon of a large shipping company. Her mother, Grace, was a stay at home mother, raising the three daughters that she and William had. The oldest daughter was Viola, the middle daughter was Elizabeth, and the youngest daughter was Julie.

Even though Elizabeth was brought up and grew up in a wealthy family, she knew that life wasn't for her. She wanted a simple life – go to college, become a teacher, get married, have a loving husband and children and grow old together and build a life they loved.

As Elizabeth got older though, the family's wealth always brought around men who wanted nothing but trouble. Most guys wanted to get closer to Mr. Thatcher so that they could have a "career" and make a ton of money and inherit some of the family fortune by marrying Elizabeth.

As time went on, Elizabeth decided to settle on marrying Charles Kensington. The Kensington family was very close to the Thatcher family and Elizabeth and Charles practically grew up together. Charles was also in the shipping industry, so he was very close to Mr. Thatcher and he loved the "power" he had with and around Elizabeth.

Elizabeth always assumed that Charles and her would get married and have children, but she always thought something felt "off" with Charles. He seemed to have a short fuse at times and any little thing set him off the longer Elizabeth and he continued their relationship. Any guy that would even look Elizabeth's way would get an earful from Charles. But when he proposed, Elizabeth agreed to marry him because she knew she probably wouldn't find someone as special as Charles, even though he did have a temper.

Their wedding came and went and was wonderful. The day was perfect and Charles and she settled into a routine of married life pretty easily. It seemed his temper went away for a while until one evening about a year into their marriage. That was one evening Elizabeth will never forget.

It was an ordinary evening, pretty similar to all the evenings they had together since being married. Elizabeth was telling Charles about her day at school and all the new kids due to the new school year starting. She mentioned a new man who was hired as a teacher in the room across the hall from her and that set him off. Next thing Elizabeth knew, he was a completely different person. He pushed her around, smacked her, hit her face, and threw her into furniture. She was scared for her life and tried to escape but he kept putting his hands on her and wouldn't stop hitting her. She knew she had to get away and run. Finally, after what seemed like forever, Elizabeth saw her chance and took off running outside of their home and never looked back.
