Back to the cretaceous.
After Nigel comes back through with the prehistoric reptile known as a gorgonopsid; he manages to find a perfect place on the plains area of his park. As the sun rises; Nigel gets in his jeep, and heads over there. When he gets there; he looks around excitedly until he sees it. The gorgonopsid is in the middle of the enclosure; basking in the morning sun.
Upon seeing Nigel though; the ancient predator just looks at him. Then goes back to sleeping.
"Wow, I can't believe that we now have this ancient predator. I mean this was the ultimate predator that existed way before the T-rex roamed north America, and even before the mighty smilodon was hunting our ancestors." Nigel explains. "Speaking of T-rex; I think I know just what our next animal should be"
Nigel begins to head back towards his bungalow, and goes looking over the map of north America. He then begins to make a circle in one spot on the map; it is then he starts to point at that particular spot.
"Now I know that we need to get some mates for Terrance, and Matilda. But where I got them from was at the very last day of the age of the dinosaurs. Back then the dinosaurs were on their last legs; there weren't that many left. So, if I want to get some mates for them; then I have go back just a little bit further, to where t-rex was its prime. Hopefully I might just see more than just a t-rex, and I might even bring it back to the park" Nigel explains to the audience.
After grabbing some books for the trip; Nigel begins to make his way with the jeep towards the time portal. The time portal activates, and Nigel finds himself once again in the late cretaceous. When he arrives, he finds himself in a tropical area that is covered in huge redwood trees; as well as some palm trees. Nigel gets out to have a look around, and as he does, he hears something heading his way. Nigel turns to see a herd of edmontosaurus coming right towards the jeep. Nigel cautiously goes around the jeep; as the hadrosaurs investigate it.
As the herd is investigating the jeep; one of the edmontosaurs accidently bumps the horn with his snout. Causing the horn to go off; that startles the herd just for a little bit. Feeling that he is in no danger; Nigel begins to slowly approach the herd. The herd looks at Nigel very suspiciously; before they feel that their curiousity is satisfied. Nigel manages to get close to the herd, so close that he is able to touch one of the member; which doesn't seem to bother the animal.
"Wow take a look at these; these are members of the hadrosaur family. They are known as edmontosaurs, and if I'm right these were the preferred pray of what we are looking for. They were the favorite meal of tyrannosaurus, so basically wherever these guys were; t-rex was sure to follow" Nigel explains to the audience.
As if right on schedule; a loud bellowing roar is heard just right over the hill. Upon hearing that bellow; the edmontosaur herd begins to stampede deeper into the forest. Nigel manages to hop inside his jeep, and gets to safer place up on a high enough hill. It is then he sees where the bellowing is coming from a huge tyrannosaurus is coming over the top of the hill. Nigel pulls out his binoculars to get a good look at the tyrannosaur.
"Wow! Have a look at that!" Nigel exclaims as the tyrannosaur begins to slowly approach one of the slower members of the edmontosaur herd.
The edmontosaur herd begins to run away from the predator; all that is except for one. One of the elders a male; is slower than the rest. The tyrannosaur is able to catch up to the old edmontosaur, and with a bite to the neck kills the elder. After killing the old edmonto; the tyrannosaur begins to eat; as it is doing so it starts to take a look around; at that moment it sees the jeep Nigel is in, and lets out a loud roar at him. After seeing the tyrannosaur roar at him; Nigel decides that it is time to find some place else to make base camp as the tyrannosaur is charging right towards him.
"Wow! That was just wow; I mean did you see that hunting technique that tyrannosaur was using. That should prove that T-rex was opportunistic hunter, and not just a scavenger" Nigel says to the camera.
When it gets dark, and Nigel has already set up his camp. Nigel is awoken in the middle of the night; when he hears some roars, and growls nearby. Ever curious; Nigel decides to head out, and grabs his night-vision camera. With the camera he is able to see what is going on. At the kill site it appears that the t-rex is fighting with a smaller predator over the kill. The smaller predator is almost built like the t-rex, but is smaller, and has some longer arms.
The rex lets out a loud bellow to scare the smaller predator off, but the predator is not afraid of the much larger rex. Nigel upon seeing this gets his binoculars out, and tries to examine what the other predator is. He sees that as before the predator is much smaller than the rex, and he also notices that the legs, and hands are longer than the rex.
"If I'm looking at this right; then what we have here is what scientists have been debating for years. What we have here is the dinosaur known as nanotyannus; it has been debated for years as to whether this tyrannosaur was either a juvenile rex, or its own species. From where I can see; I can tell that the predator is actually its own species. I mean the arms are way longer than the rex's, and look at the legs they are also a lot longer; like they were built for speed." Nigel explains as he is looking at the camera. "This I think would be a great addition to the park; if I can find a way to get it there that is."
The nanotyrannus tries to grab a piece of meat, but the rex is having none of that. The rex utters a warning growl to the smaller predator. Seizing the chance; the nano grabs a piece, and runs off. As it is running; it just rushes past Nigel, but doesn't notice him lying in the grass. After observing the nano; Nigel decides that he had better head back into his camp.
In the morning Nigel goes to check out to see what happened. When he gets to the area where the two predators were fighting, Nigel is amazed by what he sees. It looks like a battle has taken place, and the carcass is nearly picked clean, but there are still bits on the ribcage that is left. Seeing this as an opportunity; Nigel heads towards the bank, and begins to set up the time portal. As he is doing so, he hears the huffing of the rex nearby; he knows that he must hurry.
Hearing that the rex is close; Nigel activates the portal, and begins to carry what is left of the carcass through the portal. At that moment the rex sees what Nigel is doing, and decides to pursue what he thinks is a thief. The rex is about to gain on Nigel; when they both enter the portal.
On the other side of the portal; Nigel begins to head towards the quarantine pen at the end of the portal entrance. Wondering what is going on; Bob gets down to the area, and sees Nigel is trying to outrun a bull tyrannosaurus. When Nigel gets to the pen; he drops the carcass, and climbs up the ladder in the nick of time just as the rex is about to chomp on him.
"What the bloody heck were thinking Nigel?" Bob asks Nigel as he sees the bull rex trying to finish what is left of the carcass.
"Well, I was thinking that we now have a mate for Matilda, and hey we might be able to put him with Terrance
"But, I know you Nigel, and I know you got another crazy idea." Bob replies.
"You know something Bob, you may be right" Nigel says as he gives Bob a pat on the shoulder. "After you get the bull, all calmed down; be sure to put him in the pen with Matilda, and keep an eye on both of them. We aren't sure how Matilda is going to react to another male rex in her territory."
"I'll keep the hose with me in case they start to fight; just like she did with her brother." Bob replies.
Later Nigel heads back towards his bungalow; to do some research on the predator that he saw in the late cretaceous. Nigel takes down one of his dinosaur books, and begins to look through the pages; until he comes across one specimen in particular.
"This the predator that I saw back there. It is known as nanotyrannus, and scientists are still in debate as to whether this predator is a new separate species of tyrannosaur, or if is actually a juvenile tyrannosaur." Nigel explains as points to the picture of the dinosaur. "I'm going back there to figure out which it is, and then maybe we might have this new dinosaur in the park."
After looking up more info about nanotyrannus; Nigel begins to head his way down towards the jeep. It is then that he begins to head back towards the portal, and on the other side he finds that he arrived back where he left. Only this time he realizes that he isn't alone; a low growl is heard behind him. Nigel turns towards the growl, that is when he sees the nanotyrannus approaching the jeep. In a panic; Nigel floors the accelerator, and the nanotyrannus is almost upon him. Nigel manages to out drive the predator; just as it is almost on top of him.
After he manages to see that the nanotyrannus is no longer chasing him; Nigel manages to slow the jeep down. When the jeep comes to stop on top of a dune; Nigel pulls out his binoculars to have a look at the predator. He starts to feel a little bit sorry for the nanotyrannus; as the predator goes to look for more food. Nigel starts to follow the the nanotyrannus on foot, and is careful not to be seen by the predator. As he is following the predator; Nigel notices that the nanotyrannus is picking up on something.
Nigel gets his binoculars, and starts to notice that the nanotyrannus is sniffing around for something. Much to his surprise; he sees an odd behavior in the nano. He notices that the nano is digging in the dirt. Nigel continues to observe this odd behavior, but is surprised what the nano pulls out from the dirt. The nanotyrannus manages to pull out a piece of meat, and begins to eat it.
"This behavior I've actually seen before in some of the big cats; such as the well-known mountain lion, or cougar. They do this to keep the meat from getting spoiled, and in case they couldn't find any prey. That way they have something to eat, and never go hungry." Nigel explains. "So, now I know what else I might need to do to nanotyrannus's paddock, I might need to add a bit of either sand, or dirt, so that way he can hide some of his food."
The nanotyrannus eats his fill, and begins to rebury his meal. As he is doing so, Nigel comes up with a plan to bring the nanotyrannus back to Prehistoric Park. He heads back to his jeep, and begins to pull on the winch. He makes the line of the winch long enough to reach the site where the carcass is buried. Nigel then starts to uncover the carcass in a hurry; just in case the nano comes back.
As he is uncovering the carcass; Nigel hears a low growl nearby. He knows that the nano is coming back, so he tries to quicken his pace. Nigel manages to uncover the carcass, and gets the rope, and hook tied around the carcass; just as he sees the nano appearing over the dune. Seeing him the nano lets out a low growl at Nigel, and Nigel immediately heads back towards the jeep. Seeing another meal trying to get away; the nano tries to go after Nigel.
Nigel gets the jeep in gear, and guns it. The carcass begins to get out of the hole it was buried in. Seeing that his only food source is being uncovered; the nano goes back, and tries to grab it. Seeing that the nano is interested in his carcass; Nigel starts to activate the portal, and guns the jeep towards it. The nano begins to chase his escaping food storage, and goes through the portal.
On the other side of the portal; Nigel has made it through with the nano right behind him still chasing the carcass. At the quarantine pen; Nigel stops the jeep, and lets the nanotyrannus eat his fill of the carcass. At the top of the pen Nigel is greeted by head keeper Bob.
"Well, you once again have done it Nigel, and do you have any idea where you might put this one?" Bob asks.
"I think I know a place around here, but it has to have a lot of either sand, or dirt" Nigel responds.
"Sand, or dirt that is an interesting idea. I think I just might know the place" Bob replies.
After a bit of discussion; the nanotyrannus is placed in a paddock that looks like a vast desert. The nano begins to look around at his new home, but is interrupted when the remains of the carcass are dropped in. Seeing that his food is back with him; the nanotyrannus wastes no time, and begins to look for a place to bury his food.
Meanwhile near an observation platform Nigel, and Bob observe Matilda as she is pacing around her paddock.
"Do you really think that this is a good idea?" Bob asks. " I mean what are we supposed to do with her mate after he is done with her?"
"Well from what I've researched, the males basically make their own packs, so after the deed is done we can release him with Terrance, and see how the two get along." Nigel replies. "Release Tom!" Nigel orders as a some paddock doors open up to reveal the bull rex; which enters Matilda's paddock.
Next time: Nigel is once again back in the cretaceous, but due to an accident trying to find a mate for Terrance he meets the king of the seas. Also Matilda may not want to mate with Tom; we will see if she does. Stay tuned
Wow now Nigel has the dinosaur that has been in a major debate for a long time Nanotyrannus. Now he is going after another sea monster! So, I will also take any suggestions for any other prehistoric creatures he should bring back.
