Xmen Evolution: Sacred Midnight
Chapter 1: Awakening
Mutants were freaks of nature everybody knew it, at least that's what his friends always claimed. Staring at the massive gates in front of him the young man could feel his anger rising, these misfits were ruining everyone's life and instead of being punished they got a manor how was that fair. Okay so maybe there were a couple of good ones but they were very rare, most of them were destructive and if left unchecked might end up killing innocent people. Glaring at the figures just past its gates he contemplated yelling something derogatory, realizing that it would only stir up conflict he decided their existence wasn't meriting of such attention.
Swiveling on his feet the young man started walking in the opposite direction, before he could get very far a loud dinging noise interrupted his thoughts. Reaching into his pockets for the cellphone it was being suspiciously difficult to find, several minutes later he finally grabbed it and began reading the message. Given that it was full of grammatical errors he already knew the sender, sighing a little he decided to sit on a nearby bench so he could read it.
"Dude we've found yet another crappy muttie, quitee whatever your doing and get your cass over here fapsala." the message read causing him to grimace, part of him was frustrated by the countless spelling errors and the other by finding yet another mutant at their school. Despite countless warnings the freaks just refused to stay home, it had gotten so bad their principal was offering a reward for turning one in. Because of this his group invested their first reward into mutant identification and tracking equipment, according to some pro mutant loving nutcases it was a bit cruel although he figured such people were just concerned with being popular not accurate.
"On my way don't start without me." Alex typed into his cellphone before pressing send, shoving the device back into his pocket the young man stood up. School was a good twenty minutes away even if you were running, due to some medical issues that wasn't going to happen so it would probably be more like thirty to forty minutes before he got there. Cursing himself for taking such a pointless detour he increased the stride of his walk, if he didn't show up on time he would miss out and it would be disappointing.
Disciplining a muttie was something that could always brighten his mood, when he painted a large green M on their clothes it was magical. Sending them home crying reminded him they were doing a good job, if people kept turning a blind eye it would be just a matter of time before said freaks were in charge. When and if that day ever came it would be nothing short of terrible, mutants were no more capable of leading than his dog. Minutes before he reached the school gates the young man could make out his friends, cowering at their feet sat what he assumed was the mutant in question.
"Quit crying you damn muttie, it's freaks like you who've ruined this city." A dark haired young man as his friends joined in on booing her, joining them he looked down at their prey and couldn't resist smiling. Dark green eyes stared back up at him like they were expecting mercy, feeling his anger swelling up inside the new arrival pulled out a green spray can. Mutants were abominations unfit to even be at their school let alone begging for mercy, shaking the can he was about to paint her jacket when a member of their group stopped him.
"We're gonna have a little fun before the painting, hair that nice is wasted on a mutant." the guy explained before producing his own knapsack and reaching inside, seconds later a buzzing noised filled the otherwise peaceful morning air. Gazing down at the mutant in question she did in fact have really pretty auburn hair, under different circumstances she would've been attractive though everyone knew mutants were beyond ugly even if you couldn't see it.
Seconds later the guy pulled out a currently buzzing razor and smiled, drawing even closer to her she kicked against the guy keeping her in place. Grinning a little more he reached down and grabbed the mutant's hair, doing whatever she could the girl raged against her captors. Managing to wrench a leg free she brought it up causing the guy wielding the razor to drop it, grimacing at their friends pain it lit a fire in his eyes. Rushing back into the fray his boot connected with her side, whimpering in pain the guy readied himself for another kick before the group's leader stopped him.
"Spray painting an embarrassing letter on her jacket is one thing, assaulting one could have bigger implications so knock it off." Alex explained making the guy look at him questioningly, nobody in their group despised mutants like he did so it was more than a little confusing. What they failed to understand was causing severe harm would also give them unwanted attention, mutants rights activists crazy as they were kept growing in number every day and he'd rather avoid them if possible. Deciding that his wounded ego took priority his friend readied another kick, grabbing at his collar the group's leader pulled on it sending him backwards into their friends.
"Dude who cares if she gets hurt, mutants are freaks or did you suddenly forget it?" the guy questioned as his leader sighed in frustration, dealing with mutants could prove to be challenging enough without his stupidity. Grabbing the razor he slit it into a dark red backpack, it was a gift from his departed uncle so it went anywhere the young man did. Setting it down he looked at the group eyes full of rage, the young man didn't like mutants but questioning his conviction was a mistake.
"Mutant or not assault won't be tolerated on my campus, if this upsets you well too bad." A voice they all knew pretty well by now explained as they looked over at him, the school principal wasn't a fan of mutants either but he understood the risk. Despite wanting them gone assaulting one would end up causing problems, if the mutants rights activists got wind of it their entire school might be in the cross hairs. Glaring at the mutant girl he contemplated making her apologize to a still wincing young man, deciding it was probably better if they weren't late he pulled out a notepad. Writing an excuse down for their group it would hopefully keep any nosy teachers from investigating, ripping the note off he presented one to each student before writing another note.
"Are you kidding me these jerks drug me outta class and you're giving me detention." She grumbled as the principal stared at her with rage in his eyes, mutants like her always believed they were somehow in the right. Giving her a less than courteous gesture he pulled the note off and shoved it at her, assuming the girl didn't like it he could make the punishment even longer. Despite her complaints the girl knew she was a mutant, anyone stupid enough to defile his campus with their stench deserved far worse. Making sure the group dispersed he looked back at the girl, leaning in closer he saw fear in the girl's eyes and he loved it.
"Don't be late to class or you'll get another detention, unless of course you'd rather let them decide on a fitting punishment." the principal explained as the girl sighed before grabbing the detention slip, arguing would only result in more punishment and she'd rather avoid it if possible. Grabbing her backpack she contemplated making a break for it, unfortunately if she did that he'd probably just sick those goons on her. According to him it was about keeping their school pure but the young woman knew otherwise, the guy's wife had recently left him and instead of dealing with it he'd blamed mutants for it.
Shuffling into class the young man could feel his fellow students looking at him, some of them were grinning and others were simply quite. Anyone stupid enough to complain their group was too violent would fall under suspicion themselves, it was a chaotic setup no doubt but it was ultimately necessary. Much as they didn't want to acknowledge it someone needed to keep mutants in line, if they didn't want to dirty otherwise spotless records it would fall onto his group. Grabbing a chair he pulled it out and sat down never once acknowledging their stares, it would only make them feel as if their opinions mattered and in his estimation they didn't.
Countless hours passed before the lectures finally ended and much like before it was utterly pointless, it was like they kept choosing teachers more interested in getting recognition. Some weren't half bad instructors but they were pretty rare, most of them we in his opinion utterly incompetent. Grabbing his backpack the young man swung it over his arms before leaving the room, making his way down a crowded hallway it seemed more lively than usual. Making his way through a sea of people the young man frowned, it was probably a stupid rally or another idiotic event.
After several minutes of pushing through countless strangers he eventually noticed his group's troublemaker, standing over the young woman from earlier she was covered in bruises. Growling in frustration he shoved a guy with more force than necessary, it was just a matter of time before someone got hurt and the young man wasn't going to allow it. Rushing into the group he pulled the guy away from a injured young woman, silently cursing himself for not leaving the classroom earlier he nearly slugged the guy. Deciding it was probably better if he didn't escalate things a simple wack on his arm made it clear they were in big trouble, glaring at the other students most eventually dispersed leaving only a handful of people recording it on their cellphones.
"Get lost or else, as for you guys didn't we just go over how assault wouldn't be tolerated." Alex growled before chasing off the students recording it, once they'd disappeared he looked back at the group he'd started in disgust. Maybe it was his own fault but they'd gotten very dissident as of late, even if they were punishing mutants someone was going to report it eventually. Staring at the young woman he couldn't help feel a strange emotion washing over him, even if the young man despised her kind this was just unnecessary. Reaching down he offered the young woman a hand but understandably she was very hesitant accepting it, eventually she grabbed it and the young man pulled her back onto their feet.
"Awww look guys he's become a mutant lover, wonder if he'll still like her after we've enjoyed the bitch." the guy who'd started it all explained laughing before grabbing his crotch, it wasn't like the girl couldn't fight back although he'd kinda enjoy it. Suddenly the leader rushed into him slugging the guy, falling backwards he looked up and could see rage in their leader's eyes. Mutant or not what he'd just implied was completely unacceptable, it was about time someone finally dealt with his idiotic comments. Dropping his backpack the young man assumed what everyone in his group knew was a fighting stance, if they weren't going to discipline an overly idiotic member it would fall upon him.
"Don't get it twisted we aren't friends but someone needs to kick your ass." Alex explained as the young man gave him a less than flattering gesture, growling in predictable frustration the idiot rushed at him. Somebody really needed to instruct him on proper fighting skills but it wasn't going to be his group, until now he'd been pretty lax but this was his final straw. Defeating him meant the young man could officially kick him outta their group, it was a day he'd been long for and one he'd enjoy.
Delivering his fist into the punk's face it was something he'd longed to do for a while now, the punk staggered backwards and into his friend's arms. Grabbing his arms they shoved him back into the fight, it was just a matter of time before he struck back and the young man was ready. Dropping into a ready stance the young man prepared himself for a wild swing, unfortunately he'd misjudged the distance and his opponent's swing caused him to leap backwards.
Stumbling over a fallen pipe the young man cursed his luck, it was kinda painful but more importantly it gave his opponent the chance he needed. Rushing forward the young man buried his fist deep in their leader's stomach, grumbling a little the young man knew it wasn't going to be a very long fight. Balling up his fist the young man swung back catching his opponent in their face, withdrawing his fist the young man's hand was dripping in their opponent's blood. As if to emphasize his point the young man brought his leg up, catching his opponent in their gut he smiled just a little.
"Come on at lest put up a fight." Alex joked wiping a bead of sweat from their forehead, it was a pretty lop sided battle though he couldn't ignore a feeling that something wasn't right. Slamming yet another fist into the young man it was quite satisfying, the guy was nothing short of a dissident troublemaker and making sure he fell back into line was almost transcendent. Bringing his foot up into the young man's side he almost pitied the guy, much as it pained him to admit it combat was the one domain where he couldn't really hold back.
"Dude that's probably enough." A member of his group explained as their leader nodded he was right, any more and the punk would probably ended up with a broken rib. Deciding it was better if he stopped here for now the young man looked back at the girl he'd just rescued, mutant or not he couldn't stand the look of anyone covered in bruises. Reaching out he offered the young woman a hand but was surprised when the girl pushed it away, it wasn't like she didn't have a good reason for it but he wasn't that vindictive. Suddenly there was a loud yelling behind him and the young man swirled around just in time for a knife to pierce his side, gazing down at the metal blade it was lodged deep in his side.
"What the hell dude, we never agreed to letting you stab members of the group." Another guy explained as the group restrained the punk, grabbing the handle it was enough to make pain shoot through his body. Cursing himself for letting the guy ambush him it was proving to be a costly mistake, as if that wasn't bad enough the girl appeared to have scampered off. Staring at the punk he almost wished that he could get another blow or four in on him, raising his fist the young man noticed everyone was staring at him with a look of sheer terror on everyone's face. Gazing down at his clenched fist the young man opened it before gasping in surprise, instead of his own blood there was a red dagger which looked as if it had come from his own body.
