Disclaimer: I do not own Pokémon and Pokémon: Rusty. They are own and made many their respectable owners. And this fanfiction was inspired by the series Pokémon: Rusty, which was made by Dorkly. It is the same series, but Rusty will be accompanied by someone else.

The scene cuts to a teenager walking towards the deli for his and the professor's lunch. His name was Marcus Holt. He was just a regular teenager, living in his home of Beige Town. He was raised by the town's pothead/Pokémon professor named Professor Tree. He was left there when he was a baby, and the professor did his best to be a father. Marcus's whole name was the only thing he had, because it was written on a note that was with him when he was a baby. Professor Tree did his best taking care of him, but it was Marcus who took care of himself when he got older. He never hated the professor for not raising him properly, he was glad that he took him in and enrolling him in a school. He had finished school a few days ago, so now he just helps the professor do his work, or more accurately help him count the Pidgeys for his grant. He was wearing a red and white striped shirt with blue jeans, a blue baseball cap, and some sunglasses that was given to him by Professor Tree. He entered the deli to see the owner and his wife talking to their son, Rusty. He had met Rusty when they were in school, with Rusty being fascinated by Pokémon. Rusty was interested when Marcus told him that his father was a Pokémon Professor and Marcus didn't have the guts to deny being friends with him, so he agreed to it. Over time, they ended up being somewhat friends, even when Rusty started to dress up to look like his hero named Red. Rusty dream is to become a Pokémon trainer like him. Right now, Rusty was having an argument with his parents about that. "I'm ten years old, I'm an adult, I can go wherever I want." Rusty said to his father frustrated. "Legally, yes. That is true. But as long as you are living under my roof, buster. You're gonna stay here and help out with the deli." Rusty's father sternly said to Rusty. "Hello?" The family then looked to see Marcus waving at them. "Oh! Hello there sweetie. Sorry about that. Here is both yours and the professor's lunch." Rusty's mom said as she brought out two bags. Marcus smiled and took the bag. "Thank you. I appreciate it." Marcus said as he paid her. Rusty looked at Marcus for a while, then got an idea. "Marcus! Doesn't your father need help with his work?" Rusty asked excitedly. Both the father and mother knew what was going on. "Oh no, buster. I know what you are thinking of, and I don't agree with it." Rusty's dad said. "Awww, come on! Please?" Rusty said as he begs. "Well, the professor is slacking a bit, and both me and Rusty are on summer break. It wouldn't hurt for Rusty to help out." Marcus said as he put his hand behind his head. He didn't want to, but Rusty seems desperate right now. Both the father and mother look at each other. "Well, it does seem like a good idea. We could go on our honeymoon together, alone, having "fun"." Rusty's mom said as she walked up to the father, whispering the last word to his ear. "You know what. Sure, go right ahead." Rusty's father said a bit excited that he and his wife can spend some time alone and have "fun". Rusty screamed in joy and jumped around. "Hold on for a moment! There is one thing you need to do, before you can go off." Rusty stopped his jumping and looked at his parent. "If you want to go, Marcus must go with you. I am sorry about this Marcus, but I don't think that our son will survive on his own out there. So, please, will you look after my son?" The family looked at Marcus, who was surprised about what was said to him. He could reject it and go back helping Professor Tree, but he couldn't destroy Rusty's dream and the parents chance to get some time to themselves. "Ok, sure. Why not? Besides, I think Professor Tree can handle himself for a while." With that, Rusty hugged Marcus, thanking him for coming along with him. While his mom and dad thanked him for watching over their son.

After waving his mom and dad goodbye, Rusty and Marcus walked over to the Beige Town Science Center, where they entered it, with smoke coming out of the lab. They entered the lab to see Professor Tree, standing there, high off his supply. "Oh... hey! Rusty! Marcus! You got my lunch?" Professor Tree said as he stumbled a bit. Marcus then gave him the bag with his panini, as he ate his sandwich. "Say Professor. Me and Rusty are planning on going out to become Pokémon trainers. So, we need like a permission slip from you, stating that you allowed us to go out to help you with your studies?" Marcus said to the professor. "Huh? So, you finally decided to become a trainer? Sure, ok. Besides, I need help with this. I am pretty high right now." Tree said to the two boys. "So, you need someone to study Pokémon for you!" Rusty said with a grin. "Yeah. Pretty much." Tree said as he shuffled around a desk, looking for the papers. "Is that ok with you? Because I'll be gone for a good while and you will need to be more serious on your work." Marcus said as he got his backpack. "Yeah. It's ok. I got this. It gives me more time to count Pidgeys and grow more pot. Maybe I shouldn't have told you two that. Like I said, I am pretty high." Tree said as he hands him the permission slips for both trainer. "And our journey begins! I'll take these 2 Kakunas as my first Pokémon." Rusty said with glee as he took the Kakunas that were on top of some paper. "Wow, you're good at this. I thought they were paper weights." Tree said as he searched around for more weed. "Oh yeah. I forgot about them." Marcus said as he mention about the Kakunas. Only then when he figured out something. "Say, Professor Tree. What about me? Where is my Pokémon?" Marcus asked. "Aw Seedot. I forgot about that. Ehh... Sorry buddy. I only got Pokéballs. But, maybe you can catch one out there." Tree said as he hands Marcus and Rusty the Pokéballs. "Eh. It is ok. I'll handle myself." Marcus said. "Cool. Now off you go now. I need to get to work. Also, say hi to Jason Smith for me. Wherever he is." Tree said. "Alright! Let's go!" Rusty said as he dragged his Kakuna and Marcus away from the lab and into the unknown world.

It has been two days since the two boys begin their journey with no trouble. They managed to survive with the supplies that Marcus prepared for both him and Rusty. Right now, they were walking through a field with Rusty dragging his Kakunas with a leash. "Um. I don't think that is a good idea dragging your Kakunas on a leash." Marcus said. "One: it is. And Two: their names is Pikachu One and Pikachu Two! So, don't ruin this for me!" Rusty said a bit frustrated. "Jeez. Sorry. I was just saying. Also why do you get both of them." Marcus asked. "Because I got them first." Rusty answered back. "Fair enough." Marcus said as they continued their journey. "By the way. The Professor mentioned someone. Who was he?" Rusty asked. "Oh yeah. Well, I don't know if it is true or not, but Tree did mention about having a assistant before me. His name was Jason Smith. Tree said that he has some psychic power and that he was sent to the lab by some research facility because Tree needed some assistance with some sort of research on extra sensory power, whatever that is. Then one day, he disappeared. No one knows where he went, just gone. But Tree said that he saw a Pokémon speaking, saying that he is the assistant, but I don't know how much of it is true, because he was high at the time." Marcus explained. "Oh. Anyway, I wonder how Red's Pokémon journey is going." Rusty said as he looked into his phone. Marcus decided to look over this one thing, because it is best to focus on Rusty than the other guy. Just aced a battle with my rival, Blue! Gotta cat che mall!" Rusty said out loud as he read the text. "Of course! I need a rival to drive me to be the very best." Rusty said. "Yeah, just not me. I don't have one yet." Marcus said. "Oh yeah." Rusty said as he turned to see a bug catcher nearby. "Hey! Kid! Wanna be my Pokémon rival?" Rusty said to the bug catcher. "All right! Battle time!" Rusty said with glee. "Ok. Let me be the referee for this." Marcus said as he got between them. "Ok. You know the rules. You can use your Pokémon to fight one another. The one who has all of their Pokémon knocked out is the loser, leaving the one with at least one Pokémon up is the winner. So boys, good luck." Marcus said to the two boys. "All right! I choose you "Pikachu One"!" Rusty said as he puts out "Pikachu". "Uh. That's a Kakuna." "Yeah, I know. It's a bit complicated but let's just focus on the battle now." Marcus said to the boy. "Um, ok. Go Rattata!" The bug catcher said. "PIKACHU ONE, USE HEADBUTT!" Rusty yelled out as he grabbed the Kakuna and threw him at the Rattata, hitting it on its side. This causes the Rattata to screech in pain and fell down. "Rattata! No!" The bug catcher yelled out as he ran towards the fallen Rattata. "What the heck Rusty! You are not allowed to do that!" Marcus yelled to Rusty as he ran towards to the boy. "We win! Great job Pikachu One!" Rusty said, oblivious to what he had done. "That is cheating and that is not even a Pikachu!" The bug catcher said to Rusty angrily. He then turned to Marcus who was taking care of his fallen Rattata. "Is he going to be ok?" The bug catcher asked to Marcus. "You are lucky that I learned how to heal Pokémon from my foster dad. By the looks of it, he will be fine. Just get him to a Pokémon Center." Marcus said to the boy. "Thank you. My name is Barry. Maybe we will meet again. Just not with him." Barry said as he points to Rusty. With that, Barry ran away with his Rattata to the nearest Pokémon Center. "Coward!" Rusty yelled out to Barry. Marcus groans as he puts his hand on his head. This is going to be harder than he thought. "Can you believe it Marcus? I've been only a trainer for two days, and I managed defeat my rival." Rusty said with glee. "That is good, but you can not get involved in a battle. You need to let your Pokémon do all the fighting." Marcus said to Rusty. "Ok, now I just need to catch a couple more Pokémon and I can take on the champion." Rusty said. As if it was on cue, a shiny Bidoof came out of the grass. "Oh! A shiny Bidoof! I have dreamed of this day!" Rusty said. "Pokéball go-Oh No!" Rusty said as he threw a Pokéball, only to miss and hit a tree which caused the Pokéball to ricochet, hitting Rusty, causing him to get inside of the Pokéball. "Woah. I didn't know it could do that." Marcus said as he watched what had happened. Then suddenly, the shiny Bidoof came up to Marcus and nuzzled against his leg. "Huh. Talk about unexpected."

After rescuing Rusty from the Pokéball and destroying it to make sure that it never happens again, the two continued on with their journey with the shiny Bidoof as Marcus's first Pokémon. Rusty is bitter about it, but he quickly got over it, stating that he will find a better one. Then suddenly, they came across a problem, where the path they were taking splits in two. There was a sign stating that both path will merge again at the end. "Hey, I got an idea. Why not we go one path for each? We can get more Pokémon that way." Rusty said with confidence. "Well, normally I would disagree. But you do have a point on your idea. We could get lost one day, so let's do it. Besides, we can meet each other at the end of the path." Marcus said. "All right!" Rusty said as he ran towards the left path. "Well, it is just you and me now, Butter." Marcus said to his shiny Bidoof. He named him Butter because of his color. With that, he withdrew Butter back to his ball and went down the right path. As he walked down, he looked around to see the nature around him. As he walked, he then begins to think about what he is doing. "I could just leave Rusty to fend for himself for injuring that Rattata. I mean we are only friends because of my foster dad. But I can't, because I gave my word to his parents and he doesn't know what is right and wrong. Besides, that seems wrong of me doing that. He maybe a bit nuts, but he is still a kid and somewhat my friend." Marcus thought to himself. He then saw that it was night and he begins to set up a sleeping bag he brought along and took out Butter from his ball. They begin to cuddle in the bag, as Marcus look up to the stars. "I wonder if Rusty is doing alright." Marcus said to himself as he falls asleep. After a couple of days, Marcus was on the path when he saw the end of the path, where he saw Rusty waving at him. "I could just walk in the other direction but I won't. Might as well see what will happen next. I can't back out now. It could be fun." Marcus thought to himself as he walked up to Rusty. "So, how was your night alone?" Marcus asked. It was scary at first, but I had fun. Me and my Pikachus were training as hard as ever, and I managed to catch a lot of Pokémon." Rusty said as he points to the two somewhat bruised Kakunas. "Are they ok?" Marcus asked. "They are. Now come on! We just need to go through that cave." Rusty said as he points to the cave. With that, the two entered the cave, not noticing a red "R" painted near the entrance. Inside, Marcus could just watch as Rusty catch every Zubats that came to them. "You know. You don't have to catch every single one of them." Marcus said in concern. "I know. But what kind of trainer would I be if I didn't catch 'em all?" Rusty said. Then suddenly, a two nets fell on top of each trainer, causing them to be trapped. "Who the heck are you two and where did you think y'all are going?" The two looked to see a man and a woman dressed in some sort of uniform with a red "R" on their shirts. "This is Team Rocket turf and coming here is your last mistake. For we are an international crime syndicate that steals Pokémon and-" "Oh God! Here, just take them! Take them all!" Rusty said as he managed to take the net off of him, only to give all of his Pokéballs away to the two thugs. "Oh. Usually that is way harder. Thanks for being a coward." The male thug said. "Oh my god. You can have whatever you want. Just please don't kill me. Please don't kill me." Rusty said in fear. "Heh. Hey bud. Maybe you should do the same thing like your friend did and give us your Pokémons." The female thug said to Marcus. "Hey. We can threaten the other one later. Let's just check what kind Pokémon this kid has." The male thug said. The female thug went back and they begin to check what kind of Pokémon Rusty has. They opened two Pokéball which contained the Zubats he caught. But then at the third one, it opened revealing a Bulbasaur with some sort of injury on its bulb. It garbles in pain before it fell to the ground. "Oh my- What the shit is that?" The male thug yelled out in shock. "That's my Burbasaur. He is super rare. I think I caught the first one ever." Rusty said with confidence. "I am pretty sure that's a Bulbasaur with some sort of injury." Marcus said. "What else does he have?" The female thug said. The male thug opened the fourth one, which horrifying revealed a pile of dead Bidoofs. "Oh God!" The male thug said horrified. "Pretty impressive, huh?" Rusty said, who is ignorant about what he had done. "What the hell Rusty?!" Marcus yelled out as he managed to get out of his net. "Why do you have that many Bidoofs in one ball?!" The female thug said in horror. "I ran out of Pokéballs awhile ago. I mean what do you want me to do, not catch every Bidoof I see?" Rusty said without any remorse on what he did. "Dude! It maybe too late for the Bidoofs, but we need to take that Bulbasaur to the Poké Center right away!" Marcus said as he managed to put the Bulbasaur back into its ball. "Why? What would that do?" Rusty asked. "So we can heal them?!" The male thug yelled out. "Wait, you can heal Pokémon? Huh, wow, when I was on my own and when they fainted, I just throw them away like trash." Rusty said. The two thugs and Marcus could just watch in horror on this kid and his horrible treatment to Pokémon. "You are a dumb monster! You know what, let's just grab those Kakunas and get out of here!" The female thug said as she and her friend doesn't want to stay with the kid for another second. "No! Not my Pikachus!" Rusty said as the male thug reached towards the Kakunas, only for them to be covered in light. As the light fades away, it reveals that evolved into Beedrills. "Oh my god, they evolved out of pure happiness! What did you do to them?!" The male thug said in concern. One of the Beedrills flew closed to Rusty. "Pikachu One. You and Pikachu Two evolved to save us. Quick, help us out of here." Rusty said, only to get hit by the Bedrill. After that, it flew back towards the thugs, hugging the female thug. "Aw, it's ok Beedrill. You're safe now. Come on, let's go set the hospital on fire." The female thug said as she comforts the Beedrill. Both thugs were about to leave, only for the Beedrill to notice that the other Beedrill wasn't coming with them. The trainers could just look as the Beedrills begin to talk by buzzing, which resulted in what seems to be an argument with the one staying pointing at Marcus. It seems that it wants to stay with Marcus and Rusty, despite what Rusty did to them. This resulted in the Beedrill punching the other Beedrill, causing it to fell to the ground. With that, the Beedrill flew past the thugs, with them following behind. "Ok, this may look bad, but at least I still got my Pokémon." Rusty said. "I'm Rusty. I think it is best if I keep the "Burbasaur" and the Beedrill." Marcus said as he checked into eh Beedrill. "Aw what?! I let you take the Bidoof, but that is crossing the line. How come?!" Rusty said in anger. "Well, that is because they are elite Pokémon. If you want to be like Red, you use the Pokémon that wants to be with you." Marcus said, even though that was a flat out lie. Rusty then thought about it for a moment, then he turned with a smile. "Well, since you are the Pokémon expert and you seem to know Red. So, sure. I got plenty of Bidoofs who wants to be with me." Rusty said with confidence. With that, the Beedrill that stayed and the Burbasaur with the injury became Marcus's new Pokémon. The Beedrill was named Lancer, and the Bulbasaur was named Rose. With that, the two trainer begins to journey through the cave, with Marcus having some doubts. "I should just call his parents and tell them what he has done. But, he is still a kid. Ok, maybe if something happens to him, I'll call them." Marcus thought to himself as they continued on.

End of Chapter 1. Also, do you noticed the small Easter Egg about Jason Smith from Dorkly?
