Well…it's been one hell of a weekend.
Sure, there were some tears when Grady was revealed to be dead. But in the end, he gave his life so those he loved would live. We couldn't let that sacrifice be in vain now, could we?
Today, we spent the day celebrating our victory and survival. There was even a smaller hut in the old Hunting Grounds. A new Burrow. Lisa and I began to master our new powers and forms, with Lucy and Dina reaching their daughter to do the same. Max even began bonding with her other self, Maximum Darkness.
Larry even got shocked and bewildered at Vandal's new humanoid form. He said it was weird hearing him talk for REAL. He was even reminded of when HE was human. So…that hasn't changed.
As for Van Helsing? He used the Beast Stone as a beacon. To call all werewolves to a safe haven. He said that he sees all things supernatural as friends. After all…with a family like his, you're bound to have some weird friends. But that's how we roll. Crazy's the new normal these days.
Oh, I almost forgot. Blake ended up undergoing a transformation of her own thanks to the Wolf Skin. First, her right arm became that of a werewolf's. And when the Wolf Skin came to life and pounced on her, she transformed into one of the Swamp's children. Additionally, Van Helsing made her a new arm. A mix of magic and alien technology. She's even got two weapon implants in there: A gun and a blade. She admits it's super cool. He only said she'll be able to play Lore Hunt in real life now. As a Hunter-in-training.
She'll spend the next several weeks in Fever Swamp training with Lily and Cara. And when she goes back home, well…she'll figure it out. School starts later for her.
As for us? Well, Max's gotta get back to Beaver Creek so that she doesn't miss school. And Maximum Darkness will just continue napping while she's in class. Lucy's gotta get back to Hollowville so she doesn't miss work. She really can't afford to get another job right now. And I gotta get back there too, with Dylan coming with me, since Lucy and Dina will be defending THEIR town as secret protectors.
And the Moonstones? Van Helsing's gotten done making all seven Moonstone Armors, and even made several more amulets that don't require Moonstones to access the special set of armor. But he's still working on one that channels all seven stones.
Kraver also broke his leg last night, so we had to help him into the shack so he could rest. Once his magic got fully recharged, he casted a healing spell to fix that leg. He was walking again like it was nothing.
Once the sun set, we began packing up to head back home. Van Helsing opened two portals: One for the Dark Family to Beaver Creek, and one for himself back to his mansion with the Creation and Beast Stones in tow.
Lisa, Larry, and Dylan only got back into my car, and we drove into the night, leaving Fever Swamp behind. Once we're on the open road, I open a portal back to Hollowville. As we drive through the dark woods and black fog, I hear something. Honking.
Once we reach the town, which is oddly covered in black clouds, a 1987 SJ Jeep Wagoneer and a black 2020 Ram 1500 pickup truck brake to a halt to meet us. I'm forced to break my 2021 Kia Sorento Hybrid to avoid a collision.
"Hey, that's Grandpa's car!" Dylan gasps. "And Jack's too!"
Jack Black and R.L. Stine park and get out of their cars, rushing up to mine.
"There you are! Where the heck have you guys BEEN?!" Jack asks.
"I told you I was briefly leaving to find a way to slow down my transformation! Lucy too!" I say. "We took a little longer than expected, though."
"Woah, uh, okay, we're gonna have to talk about that later." Jack says. "Because right now, we are having a MAJOR problem right here!"
"Problem?" Lisa asks. "What problem?"
"You saw the news, right?" Stine says. "About Mayor Johnson getting arrested?"
"Uh, yeah?" I ask, never having considered that. "Why?"
"There were several other people that tried to become mayor. Yvonne, Reggie Mayfield, Ellie, a whole bunch of people, really!"
"An election? I think I voted for the most human candidate possible…" Lisa thinks.
"So…this guy, Mr. Zarwid, just moved in. Remember him?" Jack asks.
"That Be Afraid guy that sucked us into that Be Afraid game?!" I ask. "What about him?!"
"He had the whole town play such a game to decide the new mayor once and for all, since the election was at a stalemate. The winner would get to become the next mayor." R.L. Stine says. "That game is over."
"So…" I ask. "Who won?"
Suddenly, there's a flash of green lightning as the dark clouds begin to part. And what I see…strikes terror into my heart.
No…oh no…
Hollowville has changed. GREATLY. There's a massive cloud storm vortex with green lightning overhead. Zombies roam the streets. All kinds of monsters have replaced humans! Copies of various more roam as well.
The Abominable Snowman of Pasadena. The Werewolf of Fever Swamp. The Annihilator 3000s. Count Nightwing. Murder The Clown. The Body Squeezers…
There's a copy of every single monster that R.L. Stine ever wrote about. Every one he made the stories known of…
Creeper Plants have taken down the cell towers. The town's cut off from the world. And a nearby welcome sign is covered in graffiti. Instead of Hollowville, the sign now reads WELCOME TO HORRORVILLE. And the second part, YOU'LL NEVER WANT TO LEAVE…graffiti completely covers Want and To!
And from City Hall, where the Giant Praying Mantis is looming over, I can hear a voice. And over the new PA speakers, I hear a haunting and familiar voice, followed by the most evil of laughter…
"Good evening, Horrorville!" Slappy The Dummy laughs. "SAY HELLO TO YOUR NEW KING! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"
