It was night time in Trifas, with the stars and moon out. Their light showered down on the forest below, illuminating all that it can. From the falling leaves to the nocturnal creatures that are awake. One can even hear the soft noise produced by moths and little bugs and insects. But there was more than just that. While unheard of by any local humans, who currently dwell behind the walls of Trifas, the sound of running and feet stamping on twigs and leaves is there.
From the cover of the trees and branches, are numerous individuals. All of them bearing one singular goal on this very night. That being, the destruction of the Yggdmillennia clan. A group that had gone rogue and thought themselves free of harm. But after what they had revealed to the world a while ago…
Their time was now up.
'Almost there.' One of the head cleaners thought, as they rushed toward where they knew Darnic was living at. A castle up ahead by a few miles. Behind them, more magi prepared themselves for what would be a battle to the death. Though some showed confidence in such a task, with a few showing smirks and grins. The cleaner supposed they couldn't blame them for their behavior. After all, so far everything has gone well.
The defenses the Yggdmillennia Clan have were easily dealt with.
Bounded Fields. Destroyed.
Prepared traps that held curses and hexes. Not a problem.
Some familiars like wolves and miniature chimeras. Slain.
They've yet to even face any magus from the clan. Though considering how the Yggdmillennia Clan mainly consisted of low-level magus, it made sense. Aside from Darnic and maybe some others, the cleaners here could easily deal with any of the members. Still, best to be ready just in case.
The cleaner, narrowing their eyes, saw something up ahead. Making a hand motion, everyone behind the cleaner understood what was going on. A trap is up ahead. Where in a clearing, countless golems are ahead and slowly make their way towards them. They seemed to have rather strange appearances, though moved rather quickly and fluidly. Not that it mattered to them.
"Deal with them." Because all it took was a few spells to deal with them. Lightning. Combustion. Other minor spells that dealt with the golems. While they might have been a step above normal golems, they lacked any way to fight. The cleaner watches them fall apart with utter ease. Not worth their notice.
'Which now leaves them.' The members of the Yggdmillennia that actually are worth facing. Particularly, Darnic.
While destroying the entire clan would be beneficial, to do so in an entire night would be a bit much. Thankfully, just taking out Darnic and some other important individuals would do the trick. The remaining members would then be picked off one by one as the organization fell apart without someone to guide them. Then, just like that, Yggdmillennia will be gone and another win for the Mage Association. As a bonus, they'll be able to gather whatever materials, supplies, and research left behind.
"Finally." One of the members of the group then said. Wiping the dirt off their cloak, remaining nice and clean. "We can crush Darnic and whatever he has planned."
"Their bounded fields weren't much." Another member adjusted their glasses while giving a glance around. "If anything, nothing they have here is a threat."
On that, the Cleaner agreed. Recalling everything he knew about their enemy. The Yggdmillennia Clan.
Located here in Trifas, Romania, it is a supposed independent organization from the Mage Association. Having taken in other families rather than continuing a single bloodline like most families. Pathetic really. On paper that might have sounded great, but in reality, it was just a bunch of magus with weak circuits and history that amounted to nothing. Lacking any real noble thaumaturgical as a potent family. Being trivial in the face of the Lords and had it not been for Darnic, they'd have been crushed so easily.
Which will happen today. Now that they've declared themselves loose from the Association, with the reveal of the Greater Grail, any hopes they might have had is now lost. Having even the audacity of rejecting a command for them to surrender. Any dreams they had will now be lost on this very night.
"Alright then everyone," The Cleaner spoke aloud, gathering the rest's attention as they paused. "It's about time." Far ahead, about maybe a few miles, is a castle. The home of Darnic Prestone where the Cleaner and other groups are all around, ready to deal the final blow. The group and others like them, were finally about to end these loose ends once and fo-
BOOM!
"!?" Everyone then froze. A loud explosion had just been heard. On the east, one can see a large smoke cloud trailing up to the sky. That had been where one of the other teams had been at.
The Cleaner stood still. Quickly reaching the conclusion that perhaps Darnic and whoever else with him must have a few more defenses in place. No matter. This will just serve as a reminder not to let their guards down.
"This doesn't stop us." The Cleaner replied to the magus, now regaining their composure. "Proceed with caution. No underestimating whatever defenses are left. We must-" Then, before any more words could be said, a small flash of light could be seen. It caught the Cleaner's eyes as they spoke mid-sentence, coming from the forest. Then, another flash of light followed by the sound of a bang.
"!" With a hole appearing in the Cleaner's head, one that had clearly torn through their skull alongside whatever important bits was inside that pretty head of his. Where their head then slumped backward and fell with a wet splat. Bleeding out and creating a red puddle on the dirt.
"What the-" More noise is heard. Followed swiftly by cries of pain and flesh being torn apart. From the forest came out strange figures. They seemed to be like the earlier golems, only looking more humanoid and colored white and blue with bots of gray. Being quite advanced, something you might see in the Atlas Institute instead, or even a television show on machines.
Where each one held a gun.
Needless to say, once fired, the unexpected rain of bullets did quite the damage onto the flesh.
"The hell!" One of the members, a woman, immediately assaulted back at the golems before the guns could be aimed at her. Others who weren't on the ground screaming or outright dead from the first volley of bullets also fought against the golems. Enraged and humiliated they got caught off guard like this, their anger helped in decimating the surprise attack. Thankfully, these things weren't as durable as they may have appeared.
Simple spells placed right could cause damage onto them, or outright destroy them in some cases. It was clear that everyone (not dead) would survive this while also being fueled by anger on Yggdmillennia for this attack. Especially by using something as shameful as guns.
So with shouts of anger and magical might, in just under two minutes, all the machines were destroyed. Broken metal, bolts, and sparking circuitry now laid all around the group. Everyone sighing in relief while a few helped the magus who were injured, ignoring the dead. Not that it stopped this sense of shame that came upon them, as a few looked at the unexpected weapons the broken golems held.
"Since...since when did Yggdmillennia use this kind of thing?" A magus then asked, referring to the guns being used.
"They must be getting desperate. Resorting to such a dirty trick." One simply said. At his comment, many agreed with it. Thinking of how pathetic it was, that the Yggdmillennia would use modern weapons to attack them. An insult to every magus in general.
Yet behind their insults and snide comments, is in truth, the humiliation that none of them could just admit they said this out of hurt pride. It's a common rule that magus should never use modern day weapons. And why should they? They had power over the elements and wielded mystic might. Knew hidden knowledge and held the power to create different forms of life. Gifted with abilities that would make normal humans full of envy as they realized how low they ranked within the hyreichy of the planet. Where certain spells could even make them immune to gunfire and other silly weapons mankind put pride in.
…assuming of course, they had the chance to even cast such protection. Ultimately, the cleaners here never would have assumed that Yggdmillennia would resort to such measures. Especially like this. The possibility their target would use modern day weapons that only the rumored Magus Killer used just felt so outlandish. Still, now that they know, they'll be ready. As those who could still move prepared to leave, others felt the need to contact the remaining cleaners and give them some warning of what they saw.
Click.
The sound of whirring and a small beep is then heard behind them all. Presumably, it could be more of the golems that caught them off guard or one of the broken ones that's still operational. So a few turned to deal with it.
"..."
Instead, they saw a black and white machine that could fill an entire lane on the highway, stepping out of the trees. Being equipped with at least two arm-mounted cannons, rear-mounted ten-tube rocket launchers, and twin-barreled anti-personnel automatic cannons attached to the aforementioned energy cannons. Having a bulky frame with a large insectoid carapace-like "helmet" on its head. Armored plating was also spotted on the legs, shoulders, and thigh areas.
In essence, it's something you'd see in a mecha show than real life.
It's ornaments then clicked and aimed at them.
Occurring soon afterward caused the smell of burning flesh, flashing lights spotted at a distance away, explosions, and flesh being ripped apart with blood splattered all over.
It wasn't just limited to just this area either. All over the forest, explosions and shouting could be heard. So much that even the normal people in Trifas heard the noise and simply prayed they wouldn't be the target of such power. Thankfully for them, they weren't.
That honor belonged to the cleaners where each group that had been ready before now faced countless of these 'golems' that struck at them. Big, small, despite the fact they could be destroyed, each held weaponry that riddled them with holes of left only a few pieces of their body onto the ground with blood spotted all over. The cleaners had prepared to face the mystic might of the Yggdmillennia family on this night. Not machines that fired off bullets, missiles, and bombs. Such an oversight caused immediate death for many of the Mage Associations sent cleaners.
Needless to say, the magus that had believed themselves the predators now began running away as common prey. Yet it wasn't easy to run from the machine's long-range attacks. Difficult to even fight back when one loses a limb or is clutching a bleeding wound. The once silent forests was now being filled with the death of the magus, with even the animals that stayed away from the loud noises smelled the blood and fear being produced on this very night.
With screams heard all around.
"Everyone. Let's go!" But one group was making it out just fine. For once they managed to hear the explosions, heard the screams, they immediately turned back and ran. Not risking the idea of staying even a few minutes longer.
"What the hell is this?" One of them said with worry in their eyes. "Is that bullet fire I hear!?"
Unlike the other members, this group hadn't yet encountered any machinery. And if the leader of this group had a say, it would stay that way as he didn't wish to meet whatever was killing off the men and women sent here on what was clearly their grave. "Just forget about it." the leader said. "We just need to abandon the mission. The targets are clearly more defended than believed."
They would need to contact the Mage Association and let them know what's happening. Then the next time they come, they'll be ready for whatever it is these bastards had up their sleeves.
"Oh. Leaving so soon." Or, that had been their plan anyway, when the entire group of cleaners stopped running and looked ahead. There, standing under the moon's light in a clearing ahead of them, a single man is seen. Behind him were many machines with glowing red visors and guns in their hands, blocking their way out to freedom. But they weren't important, the man in front of them is.
Blue hair. A white mantle and black pants. Having an age of around the late twenties instead of being over ninety like they should be. Yes. Standing before them with such confidence is the target every magus sent here that they needed to kill. The head of this rogue group who caused all this. The very man that caused his family to be targeted by taking something that shouldn't have belonged to him.
"...Darnic." Leaving the lips of the magus, came the name of their target. The leader of the Yggdmillennia clan, the known mastermind for the theft of the Fuyuki Greater Grail itself. The one who wished to start what everyone in the Mage Association whispered, 'The Great Grail War'.
"How do you do?" Darnic asked as if he were meeting guests, not intruders. Almost like he wanted to hear their thoughts.
"Now!"
What he got instead were the magus chanting and invoking deadly spells.
They outnumbered the Yggdmillennia head, and the machines likely won't fire with Darnic in the way. As such, it's better if they struck now before letting Darnic get the chance to attack back. From the group all manners of attacks are unleashed. Fire, water, invisible blades, rotting air, wooden stakes, any spell that would kill Darnic was sent and launched immediately at him. All converged onto his form and in an instant an explosion occurred from the colliding spells.
The machines that had been with Darnic flew back with some ending up in pieces themselves from the explosion. The trees themselves shook with dirt and leaves being swept away from the force.
At such a sight, all around the magus then smiled. Thinking that even if they could not do as much damage as they hoped, with many of them dead, at the very least the death of the leader is still good enough. Now the organization will be in disarray and possibly fight amongst themselves on who will be the next leader. Plenty of time for the Mage Association to prepare their next move.
"Hm. Not bad." Then, everyone felt a chill. As the dust caused by the explosion settled, green light could be seen. Once gone, everyone then saw a bright green shimmering sphere, protecting Darnic from the attacks that would have killed him countless times over. "But not good enough either." Attacks that proved useless. Where the magus then saw Darnic had changed.
No longer did he wear his formal outfit. Instead, it had been replaced by more regal clothing. A dark gray coat with black shoulder pads along with details in light blue and dark blue cuffs. Under his coat, he wore a dark blue dress shirt with light blue linings and details and donned white gloves upon his hands. He also wore gray pants and black shoes. In his hands, a scepter of sorts. An ornate brown staff with metal details, a floral pattern, and adorned with an emerald gem.
Darnic then grinned, where his power could then literally be felt by all the magus present before him. It was an aura of greatness that compelled them to no longer attack. For what they felt at this moment was divinity itself, even if it did feel off for some reason. Not that they could question it any time soon.
Because the man himself then floated in the air and raised his scepter. One that flashed with the barrier itself vanishing, all followed by green energy bursting forth the crystal and immediately reducing all the magus present to ash.
There had been no time for the group to scream. Not even a moment to counter-attack. The attack had been swift and clean, as if Darnic had wiped the dirt off his clothes with no problem. Once the attack stopped, all Darnic could see was a black stain on the ground where the group had been with a burnt smell. The magus then looked down at his gloved hand and grinned.
"So this is the power of a God." Or a pretend one anyway, from the instinctive feelings he got from this vessel. Not that it mattered to Darnic, as the power he felt was so addicting. To think, this is what the Fuyuki Grail Wars had been capable of before. Well, before he ever kindly took it while enlisting some aid from another family to…'alter' the Greater Grail for a new way of fighting.
Darnic then looked up at the sky and said, "I believe you all enjoyed the show." At first it appeared as if Darnic was speaking to thin air itself.
"More than satisfied." Instead, he is speaking to six others who had seen the whole thing in the safety of their castle walls. Two women, four men. All of them having observed the events that had happened on this night, with smiles and looks of awe on their faces.
"I-Incredible." A man with a bit of a gut spoke first, as he saw what Darnic had done. "H-He reduced them all to nothing." While nobody else said anything in response, their expressions clearly agreed with the man. Eyes having widened at the display of power Darnic had shown, who in truth was more impressive in the world of politics than magecraft in general. Yet on this night, he showed his msytic might that dominated his would-be killers.
One of them, a rather small child in fact, laughed it up. "Hahaha! I did it. I did it." While he had observed the power Darnic showed like the rest, and was impressed all the same, the boy was in truth more interested in something else. Primarily, of his latest work done onto the enemy forces. "My new Golems crushed the enemy. They didn't stand a chance."
"Well, can't deny that." Near the young boy, a young woman in a wheelchair smiled. "And soon, it'll be our turn." At her words, everyone then had a glint in their eyes. Where in each and every single one of their hands, a small little card with a picture is being held. While back on the screen, Darnic transformed back into his normal clothing before walking back to their base of operation. All while holding a certain card just like everyone else in the room. Those chosen to wield the power of a mighty familiar. Where in Darnic's case, he held a card that featured the image of a human in a hat while holding a spear. Class Card, Lancer.
"Hehehe." With a chuckle, Darnic then looked at the sky. It seems the Class Cards worked after all. Now all that was left was to see just what move the Mage Association will make.
Here in the upcoming Great Holy Grail War.
I got bored.
Recently, I've been forced to rewrite the lost chapters for another story I've been doing, RWBY Fate Disaster. Nearly done with it, but it gets tiring all the same. So I decided to write this simply because I got bored. And here, I decided to make a twist. You know how in certain fanfics involving the Class Cards, we have the RWBY cast members get the Class Cards. Here, I decided why not do the reverse. Where we have the Fate world get Class Cards of RWBY instead. With Darnic using a card I'm sure you all know and recall.
As for whether I continue this story or not...depends I guess. Like I said, I got bored and made it on a whim. If it gets enough likes, then I suppose I can make more. Though only after I finish Fate Disaster. Took a damn while, but nearly done with it. Anyway, hope you enjoyed. Have a nice day.
