Steve can't believe Hydra turned his friend into a monster, until the Winter Soldier proves him wrong. And re-activates a long-forgotten trauma. How is Bucky supposed to live with this guilt? And can his friend forgive him?

Prelude
Cap and the Winter Soldier fight on the Helicarrier. Steve always manages to overpower Bucky, but because he doesn't have the heart to hurt his childhood friend, he keeps throwing himself at him to punch him. Finally, Cap drops his shield and doesn't even fight back. Unlike back then in the dirty streets of Brooklyn, where he would defend himself against others, to his last breath. Often times he would be saved by Bucks. Or woke up next to him, while he was tending to his wounds. But this time he surrenders to his friend. Despite all the beatings, despite his hateful eyes, he still trusts in his good heart. Even now, as he yells once more: "I don't know you! You're just my mission!" He raises his fist again. And Steve completely gives up. On this burning, sinking airship, slowly breaking apart, he puts himself under the mercy of his hand, however cold it may now be with the strange steel, and simply says: "Then finish it! 'Cause I'm with you, 'til the end of the line!" He looks deep into his piercing blue eyes and it seems like something is changing in them. As if they suddenly shine brighter. Look slightly questioning. But then the ground gives way beneath the two fighters and they plummet into darkness.
