The glass cracked as Basil dug his garden shears into it in frustration. "STOP TRYING TO LEAVE." His eyes glowed with fear. Sunny backed against the door. "IT WAS SOMETHING BEHIND YOU THAT KILLED HER, RIGHT? DON'T WORRY. I'LL KILL IT FOR YOU. HOLD STILL. EVERYTHING'S GOING TO BE OKAY." Basil inched towards Sunny. Sunny, still shaking, took a deep breath and stepped forward to his friend.
Basil Pulled his shears back, Sunny put his fists up. Sunny went in for a punch and missed. Basil grabbed his neck and stabbed him in the chest, digging in his flesh. Sunny let out a blood curdling scream. Sunny struggled away from him and followed up with a punch in the nose. Basil fell back and Sunny jumped him. They struggled to the ground. Sunny grabbed his arm and they fought for the shears.
*Creak* Kel swung the door open.
"..." Sunny and Basil turned to look back at him. "Wat." Kel moved in and took the shears out of Basil's hand. Basil and Sunny started crying softly and shaking vigorously. Kel stared in mild horror for a moment. He put the shears in his pocket and yanked on their ears and pulled them out of the room.
"Ow!"
"Ah!"
He dragged them into the living room. Aubrey and Hero were still half asleep, but sat up on the couch. Hero turned on the lamp.
"What's going o- WHAT THE-." Aubrey jumped. "You're both covered in blood! What happened!?"
Basil and Sunny looked away in shame.
"It seems they were fighting." Said Kel blankly.
"It's too early for this…" Said Hero as he left to go get a first aid kit.
….
Kel and Hero dressed their wounds. Shirtless Sunny stared painfully into space as Kel wrapped bandages around his chest. Basil tried to stop bawling his eyes out so Hero could stop the blood coming from his nose and mouth. Aubrey was in the kitchen getting apple juice for everyone. Somehow, Polly was still asleep.
Sunny's mind was blank. After fighting with Basil, he seemed a little less afraid. After drinking their Juice, and getting Sunny's shirt back on, they all squished on the couch together. As they leaned on each other, Hero was the first to break the silence.
"So… What was the fight for?" Basil's eyes started to glow with fear. He looked at Sunny. Sunny looked back.
….
"I have to tell you something." Sunny spoke. He got up and sat on the floor with his eyes looking to the floor. Basil started shaking, but now everyone's eyes were on Sunny.
"Mari's death wasn't an accident."
Everyone had an uneasy silence as he spoke.
"On the night of the recital, I got angry. I threw the Violin down the stairs, breaking it." His voice started to shake. "Mari and I got into a fight." Omori's face flashed in his mind. "From the top of the stairs…" He could feel Omori stabbing him in the chest and his voice resonating in his ears. "Worthless. You want to hurt them again? Your a twisted murderer. You should be rotting in jail." Sunny raised his voice a little. "I pushed her. Her knee gave out, she couldn't catch herself." Sunny started crying. Omori stabbed him again. "Sh- She didn't make it to the bottom. The hanging was a coverup." Omori crippled to the floor. Sunny bowed his head. Basil was shaking violently. "I- I..I. I saw it happen." He tried to sit up straight.
"I didn't know what to do, so I told Sunny to get the jump rope. I- I told him no one had to know and everything would be okay." A shiver went down Sunny's spine. Basil's chest felt like thorns growing from it. Out of pure fear, Basil got up, sat next to Sunny and bowed his head. His eyes were wide, but he stopped crying, Sunny still very much was.
Aubrey had a serious look, but that was to hide the tears welling up inside. Aubrey and Kel looked at each other, then to Hero. He was sitting in the center of the couch looking down at the two boys, Knelt down, and gave them a hug. Aubrey and Kel joined in. The thorns in Basil's chest dissolved into a warm glow. Sunny's tears slowed.
Hero smiled. "I know."
