Every day it's the same thing. Wake up, traverse the Pride Lands for water and grass, try not to get killed, sleep, repeat.

Mwepesi has done this her entire life, and in that time she's seen many things, and moved up from merely being a follower to leader of her herd, ever since Pembe, the former leader, and her former mentor, was killed by a vicious leopard from outside the Pride Lands.

"Such is the circle of life…" Mwepesi sighed and proceeded to eat a few leafy blades of grass.

Mwepesi remembers when other members of her herd died at the hands of predators, even as a little calf, during the long reign of Scar and those awful hyenas. But she also recalled how Simba defeated his uncle and made Africa free to roam again.

"—LEOPARD!" Paa, a particularily skittish male gazelle shouts, running past Mwepesi and the others. "--THERE'S A LEOPARD!"

Mwepesi watches the horizon—she can see that despite the sun beating down on her face that there is, as a matter of fact, a leopard amongst the grasslands—the same one that killed Pembe, since his mouth still bore the scar the elder gazelle had given him.

"Everyone! Get to that mountain!" Mwepesi exclaimed, then gazed back at the leopard.

She's not going to run this time.

Instead, Mwepesi stands her ground, snorts, paws at the dirt, and charges at the leopard with such speed and dexterity. The other gazelles watch in fear, as well as awe. The gazelle kicks the leopard in the face, effectively knocking out one of his many sharp teeth. She is scratched by his claws at least two times, but she stands her ground once more.

"You're mine, PREY!" The leopard exclaims, lunging at the gazelle, his claws bared.

But Mwepesi, using her horns, bucks the leopard onto the ground and kicks dirt in his eyes, effectively blinding him.

Defeated and humiliated, the leopard darts away, never to return.

The gazelle hailed Mwepesi's victory, and let the valiant ungulate rest in a bed of grass. Vijana, her younger sister approached, admiring her scar on the side of her face.

"Wow! Cool face stripe, sis!" The little calf happily chirps. "This whole herd leader thing seems dangerous though, aren't you worried you're gonna get eaten?"

"Vijana, one day I may die, but it's like I always say, such is the circle of life." Mwepesi replied, lowering her head and closing her eyes to sleep.

The end.
