Hey guys. So I did this story as part of the ShikaTema month challenge that is on Twitter, from ShikaTema Month - Prompts. I didn't really have time to do all of them, so I chose a couple of the prompts to do. This one is the prompt for the 3rd day, Legacy | Celebrity | "And Then There Were Three."

This is in an modern AU setting, and I really liked how it turned out. I hope you guys enjoy it.

Disclaimer: I own nothing of Naruto. If I did, my Nara family would get more screen time.

And Then There Were Three

Shikamaru's car slammed into park with a jerk. He threw open the door, jumped out, and ran to the front entrance, pushing the lock button on his key fob while holding it over his head. He saw the crowd of people standing next to the front entrance and let out an annoyed sigh. 'Why can't they leave us alone just this once?'

"Shikamaru! Shikamaru! Are you ready?"

"How does it feel, Mr. Nara?"

"Are you scared or excited?"

Several questions bombarded him as he pushed his way past the news reporters and journalists. "Move!" he yelled.

A couple of them complied, but others were determined to get his statement. One man thrust a mic in his face, making the man stop. "Are you ready to become a father?"

Shikamaru rolled his eyes and pushed the mic out of his face and gently, but firmly, pushed the guy out of his way. "No comment! Now get out of my way!"

He saw a few flashes go off and really wanted to scream as he continued to push himself through the large crowd. The front doors opened and he saw two big, burly security men come out and start pushing people back. "This way, Mr. Nara," a nurse, who had followed the two men, said.

He continued to hear the crowd shout out comments, but let out a sigh of relief when the hospital doors shut behind him. "Man being famous is a drag."

The pink haired nurse, who he remembered was called Sakura, laughed. "I can believe it. Your wife is waiting for you. This way, please."

Shikamaru followed the pinkette down the hall and through one of the many doors. His wife, Temari, was laying on the bed rubbing her swollen stomach, and turned her head when she saw him walk in. "Hey," she said with a small smile.

He walked over to her and kissed her on the lips and happened to see the covered window. "Those dang piranhas tried to bother you in here too?"

Temari glanced over to the window before looking back at him, laying her head back on the pillow. "Yeah. Sakura covered it for me when one man managed to get a snap of me as I was sitting on the bed."

Shikamaru shook his head. "Sometimes I wish I never became an actor."

Temari smiled. "Yeah, me too, but nothing we can do about it now." She hissed and rubbed her stomach again.

"You ok?" he asked, his face scrunched up in worry.

She gave him another small smile. "Yeah, though I wish they didn't cart me here so early. Sakura won't let me have anything to eat, and I didn't get a chance to have breakfast yet. I really hope your son doesn't take forever to get here."

Shikamaru rubbed the back of his neck. "Well, if he's anything like me, he might take his time."

Temari's brow furrowed as she looked at her stomach. "That's what I'm afraid of. Your mom said she was in labor for a good 34 hours. You better not take that long, you hear me son?"

Shikamaru chuckled. "Has mom and dad arrived yet?"

She looked up at her husband. "No. Sakura called them, but they said it may be another hour or so before they got here. That was 20 minutes ago."

Shikamaru saw a seat close to the bed and pulled it over to sit down. "They'll probably get attacked by the swarm out there too."

"If I know your mother, they won't have any problems," Temari said, laughing at the thought of anyone standing up to Yoshino Nara.

"Yeah," Shikamaru said with a smile on his face. He looked up and saw that the tv was off. "You're not watching your morning show?"

"Nah. Didn't want to bother with all the announcements that would interrupt it because I was here."

"I still can't believe they found out and got here before even I did."

"They're the media, Shikamaru. They live for invading our privacy."

"True."

A calm silence filled the room, and they both just sat there enjoying it and each other's company. Shikamaru had grabbed her hand and was rubbing it with his thumb as she continued to get hit with contractions, making small talk with her every once in a while.

Yoshino and Shikaku walked in about 45 minutes later.

"Temari. How are you doing, sweetheart?" Yoshino asked as she walked over to the bed.

Shikamaru got up from his seat to get out of the way, and stood next to his father, who was standing slightly behind, but next to his wife.

"I'm doing good. Ready for this little guy to come out," Temari said.

"He'll be here quicker than you know it," Yoshino said as she smiled down at the girl.

"Unless he's like his father, who absolutely refused to come out," Shikaku said.

Yoshino turned around and slapped her husband's arm. "Don't scare the poor girl," she said sternly.

Several hours passed, and when she did her check on the blonde, she smiled. "Well, you're fully dilated, and you said your contractions are coming every minute now?"

"Yeah," Temari said as she hissed again. "Can we get this kid out already?"

Sakura chuckled and turned to the other three. "Are you both staying?"

"No. I'm gonna head to the waiting room," Shikaku said before he turned to Temari. "Good luck." With that, he left the room.

"Temari asked that I be here with her, along with Shikamaru," Yoshino said.

"Alright. I'm going to go get Doctor Tsunade, and we'll get started," Sakura said, then turned her attention back to Temari. "Just keep breathing, and don't push, no matter how much you feel you need to."

Temari nodded and another painful contraction hit her.

Another five minutes, and the long, blonde haired woman walked in. "Hello, Temari," Tsunade said. "You ready to have your son?"

"More than ready," Temari said, then hissed yet again through another painful contraction.

"Alright, then let's bring this precious little boy into the world."

Several pushes and screams later, the child still wouldn't come out. Shikamaru was sure his hand would have to be looked at, because it really hurt from all of Temari's squeezing and he also felt something pop earlier.

"Get out!" Temari screamed through another hard push, crushing Shikamaru and Yoshino's hands even more.

"Almost there," Tsunade said. "I can see the head now. Give me another big push." Temari complied. "Alright, good. Take a few seconds to breathe."

Temari bashed her head into the pillow behind her and looked over at Shikamaru. "I hate you right now."

Shikamaru chuckled and leaned down to kiss her sweaty forehead. "I know, but you're doing great."

"He's almost here," Yoshino said as she brushed back the stray hairs that fell into Temari's face.

"Alright, Temari. Give me another big push," Tsunade said.

Temari lifted her head up and clenched the two hands as another contraction hit her. "Agh!"

"Good. Another few more and we should have him," Tsunade said and looked over to Sakura. "Is everything set up?"

"Yes, ma'am," Sakura said. "Ready, and waiting for the little guy."

Tsunade turned her head back to the tire looking blonde. "Alright, let's get this kid out."

"Finally," Temari said. When the next contraction hit, she pushed as hard as she could.

It took three more pushes until the child finally emerged, but not a sound was heard. Panic filled the three Naras, but Tsunade did something and a loud cry filled the room, making Temari slump back against her pillow. "Thank God."

"Dang kid was asleep," Tsunade said.

Yoshino laughed. "Of course he was."

"Shikamaru, do you want to cut the umbilical cord?" Tsunade asked.

Shikamaru was standing there a little flabbergasted as he saw the top of his son's head, and slowly walked over. Sakura handed him a pair of scissors and told him to cut in between the two clamps that they already put on the cord. He quickly snipped the cord and moved back to Temari's side without getting a good look at his son. He wanted Temari to be the first one to look at him.

After Sakura cleaned him up, and Tsunade helped Temari to deliver the afterbirth, the pinkette placed the bundled baby in Temari's arms. Tears welled up in Temari's eyes as she gazed down at the child, who was quietly observing her. "Hi there," she said quietly.

Shikamaru leaned in and stared at the child too, and the boy's teal eyes flicked over to him. He had Temari's perfect eyes. He wiped at his eyes as tears fell down his face.

"Crybaby," Temari smirked as she looked at her husband.

Shikamaru leaned forward and kissed her forehead. "Thank you."

"He is beautiful, and he has your eyes, Temari," Yoshino said. "I'll give you guys a few minutes alone with him, then bring Shikaku in to meet his grandson."

Shikamaru and Temari just nodded as they looked back at their son. The boy's eyes were already closed and he was sleeping peacefully.

"Well, the legacy continues. Already a lazy bum," Temari said, still using a quiet voice. She kissed the boy's head. "Welcome to the world, Shikadai."

So, how did you like it. It's a little short, but I think it was just the right length for this story. Let me know what you thought in a review.
