Chapter 1 (Awakening and the Fate of Rias Gremory)
-The scene starts when Issei was about to sleep-
"Man, the training sure is hard…I mean I almost died like multiple times" he said clearly shivering from the thought.
"Just how strong is that Phoenix guy? No…That yakitori bastard is a high-class devil and won a lot of rating games" he said to himself.
"How much will I sacrifice for Butchou? How far will I go for her?" He wondered and then he went to slept.

Waking up I found myself in an apocalyptic landscape. People's charred corpses, screams, ashes to the deceased and cries filled the night. Of course, I was scared, what do you expect? A teenager who dreamt of saving everyone, seeing this will surely break most sane people down. However, I was not bothered at all. A kid who promised to be an ally of justice… It was strange.
"It's hot, I can't breathe" A kid with red hair and yellow-colored eyes nearing the boundaries of color of gold. I felt pity for the kid. Seeing people die in front of your eyes, not in my bucket list.
"Everyone is dying in front of me… I must save someone," said the kid.
I was dumbfounded, in this hopeless situation. Finding hope will be near impossible yet this kid…strives through all of it.

Unfortunately… the strength of the kid seemingly dissipated as he drops down with a thud.
"No, I will not be able to save everyone, my limbs I can't take it anymore, besides I'm dying…If I was able to save a person, will die with me" The kid said with clear sadness and fear. The kid then reaches out for the sky seemingly uttering his final words.
"I am sorry…I was never able to save anyone" He then chuckled bitterly as he allows all his strength to go away.
"NO!" I said with concern.
As I try to grasp his hand, my hand passed through his. Then out of nowhere a hand grasped the already burnt hand of the kid.
"You're alive, thank goodness". The one who spoke was a man seemingly in his prime, with emotionless eyes that will be able to pierce through your soul. The said man was wearing a black coat that was damaged, maybe from the fire... That very same man that let out the aura of death itself…shed tears? It was a very strange sight, the man the seemingly suffered every possible pain was able to smile warmly.
The world that I was currently in, suddenly warped and now I am inside a house. The house itself was a Japanese traditional one. I found myself at the near the two as they conversed.
"You know, I used to become a hero of justice" the man said with a nostalgic smile as he remembered those times.
"Really, so you save people for a living then?" The kid with red hair asked excitedly.
"Yes, but being as old as I am, my time is limited so I won't be able to impart justice anymore" said the man sadly.
"Oh, I can be a hero for you… I want to save every person I see that is suffering" When the man heard that he smiled warmly at the kid.
"Oh, I see so I can rest easy now then" He then answered with happiness.
"Saving everyone? Shirou you know that is impossible but you still desire for it? Being a hero of justice requires sacrifice that you are not capable of giving". He added mentally but I somehow heard it.
After the scene that I saw, it warped once again, now I am currently at a world with hills of…SWORDS. All kinds, katana, European swords and axes, every weapon that you can think of pierced at the ground. For most people, it might be a sight to behold but I, however understood the very meaning of these swords. They serve as GRAVES for people that was killed.
"Oi kid" A man asked menacingly.
When I looked to the source of the voice I suddenly freeze at the spot. His eyes… yes, his EYES, his silver orbs saw death thousands of times. It somehow reminded me of the man that talked to…uhm…ah yes it was Shirou. He has his hair styled upwards with tanned skin. The man in question has this red coat that somehow radiates faint holy aura.
"Are you worthy of this power? "Asked the mysterious entity… Before I can answer, I felt the most unbearable pain possible.

"AHHHHHHHHH*pant*What the hell was that *Pant*" I was scared out of my wits.
"That dream…No, it can't possibly be a dream its- "Before I managed to finish my statement the door opened.
"Issei-san are you alright!?" A girl with yellow hair and big green eyes asked worryingly.
"No, don't worry about me I am fine it's just a dream". I responded.
"I see, Issei-san, do you want water?" she asked as she hands me a glass of cold water.
"Yes, thank you Asia-chan" I said gratefully. She blushed at that statement.
"Alright then Issei-san, I'm going back to my room" She then told me, she's sleepy based on her tone.
"Ok, Uhm… by the way can you tell me what time it is" I asked curious what the time is.
"It's Uhm…uhhh" I chuckled sheepishly, as expected she blushed heavily from embarrassment.
"No, it's fine let me see it myself, Asia-chan can you please hand me my phone over there?" I asked while pointing at the table near the door…it was my study area.
"Sure Issei-san" She then hands me my phone.
"I see it's 3:59 AM…if that's the case I might as well spend it to train some more" I let out with a not so excited tone. What can you expect? I'm literally going to face that yakitori guy who can regenerate like c'mon.
1 hour later…
It is now 5:00 and our protagonist Issei Hyoudou is panting hard because of exhaustion from rigorous training. If any person where to see his face right now, they will wonder "why is he excited?". Yes, our Issei is very excited to roast some Chicken. He then heads to the Hyodou Household to take some bath. He must be well groomed before participating in the rating game he thought.

I am currently in the bath; I must say it is very relaxing to take a bath after exhausting myself to training. It was obvious that I am not fond of fighting a guy who can regenerate any wounds or maybe capable of resurrecting himself.
An idea happened to come into my mind. "If this so called "Immortal bird" can regenerate wounds that is otherwise considered mortal for others, then I will just have to force him to retire buy inflicting pain so much that he will not be able to handle it. Maybe use holy water? Hell no…I'm not risking my life holding a liquid that can potentially force me to retire and I am sure that Butchou will not consider that idea" I thought slightly conflicted on what to do. I am slowly running out of ideas to beat that bastard to the ground.
"Wait…I will be able to win, with more power. However, he is also stated to survive attacks even that of high-class devils…well considering he is one." I asked myself.

"Ddraig?" I referred to the dragon currently residing in my hand
[Yes partner?] the red dragon responded with a boisterous tone.
"Do you know any way for me to become stronger? I will need all the power I can ever get" I questioned the red dragon.
[There is indeed a way…however] the red dragon hesitated to add more, I just raised my eyebrow for this.
[Is for your heart and arm that hold the sacred gear, to become of that a dragon] he added with strange tone of worry.
"I will do it" I said with a burning conviction and will.
[Are you sure partner? Most of the hosts I had never survived this process] he added, secretly hoping for me to not continue with this plan of his.
"Yes…I am sure of this decision, besides…I will do everything for Butchou, even if its suicidal" I said to the dragon pridefully.
Hearing this, the dragon just sighed. [Out of all the hosts I had, you are the worst and at the same time the best]. The dragon said with a strange tone of pride in his voice.
"Let's do this" I said with burning passion.

[Partner we are going to start the process]. I just nodded at this, acknowledging the dragon.
[Remember partner to be awake we can't risk you dying] the dragon added with a worried tone.
"Yea…I'll try not to die" I said while chuckling.
However, the sensation in the procedure…was just

Painful and agonizing…is what I could explain what I felt in this procedure, I endured it, it was very hard not to scream of pure agony. But at last, the pain that I hated dissipated.
[It's done partner we have succeeded]. I was overjoyed at hearing that, knowing what I experienced will ultimately bring us victory.
15 minutes later
My phone then vibrated, as expected it was butchou telling us to come to the ORC room. I responded, "Wait for me I'm going to grab myself a quick breakfast". She told me yes but be quick because it was just 45 minutes left before the rating game. Me and Asia went to a fast-food chain to feed ourselves, but I said to Asia that we need to be quick because butchou is waiting for us. She nodded the affirmative.
10 minutes later
We are now done eating our breakfast, after that together with Asia, we went to Kuoh Academy. It was a short trip, took us only 10 minutes at best which means we only have 35 minutes before the match began. As expected, Himejima senpai, Yuto senpai and my junior, Koneko was already there waiting with Butchou, the very same person I owe my life.
"Good morning, Issei my sweet pawn and Asia my precious Bishop" Butchou greeted as with the most love we have ever seen her capable of displaying.
"Good morning Butchou!" I responded to the red-head happily and excitedly. She acknowledges my greeting and we proceeded to formulate a plan…a plan that involves a lot of risk, but it was worth taking seeing as the opposite side have superior numbers compared to us.

The match that will determine the fate of Butchou began as the intercom announced and told us to get ready for the rating game because it is starting.

As expected, a magic circle was formed in our room, that was one of the signals of our match starting... I steeled myself and prepared for the worst, I know what I can do and what I can't and certainly am not the strongest in our peerage, heck I'm the second weakest person here in terms of physical strength and speed. But I readied myself, what kind of pawn am I if I am not ready to sacrifice myself for Butchou
The peerage of Rias Gremory and our protagonist, Issei Hyodou was deployed into the battlefield and surprisingly it was…Kuoh Academy?

Observation Room-Kuoh academy
Sona Shitori or Sona Sitri, her true name, was a friend of Rias, a fellow High-class devil…a strong one at that. She was the the heir of the Sitri clan one of the 72 pillar families or clans that is highly influential in the underworld. She was an expert in using water magic, technically she can be considered as a master in using it, if not for Serafall Leviathan, or formerly Serafall Sitri who mastered water magic to the point that she is able to use it conjunction to Wind magic, creating what you call "Ice magic". She was one of the observers of this match.
When she saw our dumbfounded faces except for Butchou, whose expression never changed she explained that Rias and Raiser agreed on making Kuoh Academy the battle ground for the match.

It officially started, together with Koneko, we, on behalf of our master, Rias Gremory, went to claim the gym as one of our so-called advantage points. Just like what Rias expected there are already servants inside, notably 2 pawns and one rook.
"So, we meet again pawn" The rook told me. I knew that this rook has the edge on physical strength when she clapped my cheeks, that's why I decided to summon my boosted gear.
"Hoh? Using it already I see" she said pridefully and boastfully. I know that this girl is pretty much underestimating me, seeing how she is a rook, and I am a pawn. However, pawns, no matter how weak they are should not be underestimated…
What I noticed in her stance is that there are a lot of openings to strike. This girl is purposely leaving herself to physical attacks so she can counter or parry. That's a neat strategy, yet seeing the openings, I couldn't help but wonder which one to strike on to have the edge.
"Here I go steel yourself pawn" with that warning, she dashed at me. As expected, she is fast. so fast that I can barely see her.
However, something untapped within Issei awakened…something that he forcefully did in the heat of a battle…

Suddenly…I received a very weird sensation… Something within me awakened as I can already think of millions of ways to parry her strikes and how to counter them and where to strike. I don't know what this is but might as well use it against her.
*Clank*
I was able to parry her staff strike. She widened her eyes momentarily then she saw another opening that I, myself purposely left to catch her off guard. It worked as I was able to dodge her incoming attack in the last second and strike her solar plexus with a left hook… She coughed saliva and flew a few meters away from me…seeing my strength, she finally decided to take this battle seriously. She went a strike for the head, to knock me down.
*Clank*
I parried it again. Deciding to target my legs, she swung her staff diagonally with the intent to cripple them. However, I was able to parry it again.
*Clank*
I was able to parry and block every single attack coming …I countered her, she counters me, I strike her, she blocks…That is pretty much the flow of the battle. After going on for a few minutes I notice that her stance that is getting wobbly which means she might be getting tired or it could be a trick, I thought to myself.
[Boost x5]…[Partner you have enough boosts to do a dragon explosion] Hearing that, I smirked. The girl was in guard sensing the massive energy coming from me.
DRAGON EXPLOSION!
This attack…is stronger than I thought…it completely obliterates the other half of the gym…
"Riser's rook…retires"
Seeing that Koneko was struggling with the other two pawns, I decide to aid her with my boosted strength which ultimately ended in our favor…

I was pleased at the intercom for announcing our achievements… However, my heightened and dragonified sense sensed a rather powerful blast coming towards our location. Before I can act however, it was too late.
*BOOOM*
The gym exploded because of explosion magic used by the queen of Riser.
"Ufufufu, did I manage to eliminate those two?" She asked curious. As if on instinct she was able to dodge Akeno's lightning.
"Stooped so low, queen of Gremory to attack me from the back like that" She taunted her.
Akeno was very desperate, she already used very single attack in her arsenal, however the queen of the phoenix barely has any scratch in her. She thought that if she could use her holy magic, the magic that she despised…she has no choice in the matter, use it, or lose.
"Queen of Raiser…don't underestimate the power of the Gremorys!" she snapped back at the overconfident queen.
"Hoh? Still has some fight in you. Well then…I am getting tired of fighting you so I will give a one-way ticket to your defeat" she responded to the enraged Gremory's Queen.

The explosion… it burnt through my defenses when I shielded Koneko with my own body. The pain was becoming too unbearable for my own taste even with my dragonified body, that I was already contemplating to retire. However, I still have that burning passion within me…to save my Butchou from a cursed fate…
"This is nothing compared to the pain that, that kid went through, this pain is nothing compared to the suffering that man has endured" I muttered painfully.
"I will not be defeated here". I said with conviction and passion.

Hearing that I looked onward to the vast magical power being emanated and saw Akeno, in a bad state. However, I saw the burning passion from her eyes…the will to win, that I was familiar towards. I chuckled seeing as how Akeno was using the fullest of her ability, strangely it emanated a holy aura.
"It is not the time to think about that" I said as I slapped myself.

I boosted myself over 5 times and used one the boosted gear's ability which is 'gift' to transfer her those 5 times worth of boosts to ensure her victory. I watched how Akeno's lightning started raging more wildly than before.
"Take this…GRAAAAAAAAAH" Akeno let out a loud war cry. With that attack, she was able to over come her adversary. She smiled painfully as she fell to the ground with a loud thud. Seeing this, I hurriedly went to her side.
"Riser's queen…retires"
"Ah…Issei-san" she was able to mutter in between exhausted breaths.
"Win for us…" She added as she disappeared in a mote of light…
"Yes…I will win for all of you" I said to the now retired ally…
"Gremory's queen…retires"

It was not the time for me to go slacking around…
"I should contribute to other's especially Kiba over there…" I said as I noticed Kiba struggling to hold out the pawns, rooks, knight, and bishops.
"Kiba!" I said as I called to my ally…
"What is it Issei-kun?" he responded in between breaths. The fatigue was slowly getting into him.
"Use your sword birth" I said to the tired and panting Kiba…
"I see…so you are going to use that huh?" he said as he smirked. I just smirked back in return.
SWORD BIRTH!
With that…waves of swords pierced the ground. It went exactly to plan…

Once again using that ability, the waves of swords increased in numbers and became sharper than ever.

The other knight was about to attack us, but a relatively uninjured Koneko took her on…It was a bad idea considering she is going against a knight, which has superior speed.
I turned my attention to Kiba and saw him struggling against the last knight piece of Raiser. I decided to tag in…
"Kiba? Can you make a sword for me?" I asked Kiba.
Kiba was shocked, after all Issei prefers to use his fist and body…but complied nonetheless
After creating a sword, he gave it to me. Holding this sword, I felt a strange feeling of familiarity that I got with it when I touched the blade. I never trained at Kendo, but what confuses me is that why does this sword feel comfortable and light within my grasps. It's like I used a bladed weapon thousands of times of before.

I was able parry and counter every single sword slash coming right at me with the sword Kiba entrusted to me. When I was fighting the knight however…

A memory came surging into my head…It was strange, because I never remembered any of these events in my life. However, there was a particular memory…The memory of a red-haired boy, it was the same boy I saw yesterday…he was doing ... I suddenly remembered how to do activate a skill only limited to myself…Reinforcement.

Weird cybernetic like patterns began spreading through my arms…it glows ethereal green. I noticed that my strength skyrocketed because of this…however I know that I will not be able to keep this up for long…despite the strain, I forced my body beyond their limits, giving me the edge in strength and speed but the knight I was fighting is more skilled than I am. That means… I will just need to overwhelm her that's why…
[Boost].
"RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH" I let out a loud a war cry then I managed to eliminate her…
"Riser's Knight… retires"
Seeing as how I defeated the adversary in front of me, I focused on Koneko and Kiba that is currently fighting the last knight piece of Riser.
Once I tagged in, the fight tipped into our favor as we defeated the last knight piece.
After defeating the knight, I remembered there are only 2 that remains, Riser himself and his sister. Realizing this, I decided to confront his sister.
"Oi you are the sister of that yakitori bastard, right?" I asked clearly mocking his brother. She flinched and responded by introducing herself
"Yes, I am her brother, Ravel the Phoenix" I nodded at this.
"Oh, where are my manners, I am Issei Hyoudou, the so called Sekiryuutei of this current generation" I declared proudly. However, something from my introduction made Ravel blush.
"O-oh so you are the c-current s-s-sekiryuutei of this g-generation" She responded while being flustered which I found incredibly cute.
"So will you give up, I won't hurt cute girls" I said while smiling warmly at her. The gesture made her more flustered which for me is impossible, no one can be this cute.
"H-hai I-Issei-sama". she said while stuttering. It was very entertaining to tease her because of her bahavior and reactions…
"I, Ravel Phoenix of the Phoenix clan, hereby retire from the rating game". After her saying that, the announcement was made.
"Riser's Bishop… retires"

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN? DON'T JOKE WITH ME, I AM JUST ENOUGH FOR ALL OF YOU! AHAHAHA! YOU ARE ALL WEAK AND INCOMPETENT, ALL OF YOU ARE NOTHING AGAINST THE MIGHTY PHOENIX" Riser said with an overconfident and boastful tone.
"Let see about that Raiser" red head responded to the annoying phoenix.
"AAAAAARGH" she let out a loud war cry and proceeds to use destruction magic. Though, it was a strange sight to behold, she was only using her fingers to fire? (Gandr Shot reference).
Amazing, as expected from Butchou. I thought impressed by the development.
As for the phoenix, is shown to be struggling against her, never he would have thought that the Gremory heiress will give him this much of a fight. He continued to let out phoenix flames.
"AAAAAAAAGH" she cried out, caught off guard by the flames.
"Just retire and accept the marriage, this for the better good of the devils" Riser said trying to convince her. As you know Rias, with her confidence will never let out the easily.
"I WILL NEVER" she said while glaring at him.
"I will defeat you here Raiser!". She then let out a war cry as she prepares to use every ounce of her magical power.
"RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH! TAKE THIS RAISER!" She let out a flurry of concentrated beams of destruction at him.

The rest of my peerage members are currently resting in the now ruined ORC room. They entrusted me the finishing blow…
I jumped to Rias' side while she is still letting out her power. I know it might be a very bad idea since I might get hit but due to luck or something I escaped unscathed. After that attack, she already exhausted almost all her magic reserves.
"Butchou, it's now my turn" I said with burning passion referring to the red head.
"Thank you, my sweet pawn," she said happily but with a tired tone.
"Oi yakitori, can you fight?" I asked obviously taunting the phoenix.
"YOU! HOW DARE YOU CHALLENGE ME YO- "Before he can finish speaking, I interrupted him.
"I am just a pawn? So what? Am I not allowed to save Butchou from her cursed fate…because I am just a mere pawn?" I asked with an angry tone of voice, then I smirked.
"I am roasting you here you chicken!". After hearing that, the phoenix then attacked me with his fire.
I just stood there taking the blast head on…
"Issei!" Rias said worryingly concerned for her pawn.
"AHAHAHAHA, in the end you're just a mere pawn" Raiser said to me with a smug voice.
"Heh? Is that all you got?" I asked, which shocked the phoenix.
"H-how, I roasted you with my magic" Riser said shocked for what transpired

After that, the smoke slowly dissipates showing a burnt Issei just standing there.
"If it was Butchou, I would have been erased from existence "I said painfully while smirking.
"WHAT DID YOU SAY? YOU LOWLY- "Before he can continue his ramblings however…
[Boost x5…DRAGON OVERBOOSTER CRUSHER]
With this, my boosted gear then changed its structure becoming an equivalent to that of an armored giant human fist.
"TAKE THIS YOU YAKITORI BASTARD" I shouted at him, the phoenix in turn, vomited a mouthful of blood
"GAAAAAAAAAARRRGHHHH…h-how y-you're just a pawn" The phoenix cried out confused while hurt.
"I may be just a pawn" I said "but I desire to win, to become the strongest PAWN" I said with conviction.
"I need something…something that can defeat him once and for all…something like a SWORD!"

The space around my hands started warping as I gripped a non-existent hilt of sword while glowing bright ethereal green. In its place a pair of black and white swords took its place…It was Kanshou and Bakuya…the married blades…
"GRAAAAAAAARGH" I let out a war cry, reinforcing my limbs while I dash towards Riser…
"I will not allow myself to be defeated by a pawn like you!" Riser said while preparing to conjure up the brightest and hottest flames he could ever muster in his life.
Before he can let it out however…
*SLASH*
*SPLAT*
I was able to slash him…spurted blood everywhere
"HAHAHAH…I will just regenera- "before he can continue…he finally managed to understand…
"W-why am I not regenerating?!" the phoenix asked while shuddering in fear.
"You see…the swords that I used just now…has some anti-monster qualities…"I said to the terrified phoenix.
Hearing this, the phoenix's face contorted into that of a scared child.
"You can retire now if even want to survive RISER"
As for the phoenix however…he saw Issei's eyes reverting to an ice-cold color of steel…
"Riser…retires"
"Gremory is the victor"
"We did it everyone…We won" I said. "haha*pant*hahaha*pant*" I felt the strength on my legs leave, and the swords that I conjured up disappear… however before I fall flat to the ground…
