Summary: A peaceful gathering of the Chosen doesn't happen very often. But once in a while, the stars align just right.
It wasn't often that the Chosen – and there were plenty of those these days – could get together and just hang out with each other and their partners. Some could see each other more than others, but they kept in touch with e-mails, phone calls, and the occasional battle that needed a lot of hands on deck.
Today, however, was just an ordinary gathering, something they'd planned for a while, and everyone looked forward to. Getting time off for some of them wasn't easy but Miyako managed to arrange it – it helped that she was the boss of her travel agency and had plenty of competent people working under her. Most of them had partners of their own, but only a handful of them were actual Chosen.
With Hawkmon flapping overhead, she made her way to the park where everyone else would be gathering. She spied Hikari farther ahead, Tailmon by her side, and waved at her.
Hikari waved back, careful not to drop the picnic basket she carried, and waited for Miyako to catch up.
"Everyone's going to be coming, right?" Miyako asked once she got close enough, flicking her violet braid out of her eyes.
"Just about. There are a few who couldn't make it, but almost everyone will be." Hikari told her. "It's going to be fun."
Miyako had to agree. She liked spending time with any of her friends, and she'd made most of the arrangements for people like Mimi to show up there. Daisuke had, of course, made his own travel plans, since no one could get him to stop using the Digital World as a shortcut. Some things about some people never changed.
The park was huge, and they'd made special arrangements so that the Chosen and their partners were going to have it as much to themselves as they could. She spied V-mon and Daisuke running over to where Ken settled down under a tree, Wormmon in his lap.
She didn't watch for long; those two didn't see each other as much as she knew they would want to. Not with Daisuke running his ramen franchise in the States and Ken being a very successful architect here at home.
They weren't the only ones who seldom saw one another as much as they wanted. She didn't spy Taichi and Yamato anywhere. Probably for the best. Things could get very heated when they were together, and that wasn't the kind of thing everyone needed to see. They'd turn up later.
For now, she settled down at one of the benches with Hikari and their partners and started to unpack what she'd brought along. Chosen older and newer wandered by, greeting her, some thanking her for these travel arrangements or others, and some just saying hi for the sake of saying hi.
This might not have been the future that she'd dreamed of as a child, but Miyako was more than satisfied with it. She ran a successful travel agency with side dips into other areas, she helped her friends when they needed it, and they helped her in return. It was everything she'd ever really wanted, and she hoped it would continue for a very long time.
The End
Notes: This wasn't how I intended to end it, in specifics. The same peaceful type of ending but I wrote it differently the first time. But then my word processing program crashed and I hadn't saved, and I was getting tired, so I just did this instead.
