Angel: I am only going to say this once and only once. Katrupp03, STOP bothering me about SRMTHFG, or TMNT or just anything. I have a low tolerance for people who are like 'you haven't done this' or 'you promised this, why's it not out yet?' And you've pushed my patience far enough.
Wanna know why I still love writing? Because I have people that understand WHY I take so long on projects: a, I have an internship, b, I work 30 HOURS a week, and c, I have a bunch of family drama that I don't wanna deal with, so excuse me if I don't start on a project when I have others to either finish or start on. To this day, I have stories that I haven't finished that I haven't touched from months to years. I can't spend 24/7 writing, that's ridiculous to ask of me.
So consider SRMTHFG OFF of my list, I'm not doing it anymore. You did this to yourself by bringing it up again and again—which is also why I stopped doing TMNT btw.
Katrupp03: BLOCKED. Write the story yourself.
Please stop mentioning shows to me I haven't started on yet, Katrupp03 I really don't need to be spammed with that—especially since I already mentioned this kind of behavior with Rise of TMNT not even a month ago. Plus, just because you say you won't bother me is counter-intuitive when you're doing something that DOES bother me. Tell me how this makes sense or is acceptable.
"You...you and Dirk dated?" Quint asked in shock to the girl as they were waiting for Dirk and Jack to return.
"More like...just hung out for a few weeks. It didn't last that long, to tell you the truth," She shrugged at him. "We only dated each other for benefits. I didn't have to worry about...stuff, and he got more terror from kids who didn't like me as much," She rolled her eyes. "We both agreed that it wouldn't work and we stayed friends instead. Honestly, we both just acted like our normal selves for the most part, and it was kinda awkward being a couple with him."
"What kind of stuff did you worry about?" Quint wondered and she flinched.
"Oh...family drama and all that," May waved it off as she looked slightly horrified. It was really intense family drama that she wanted to move away from.
"You know...we're part of a team now," He rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. "You don't have to tell me, but...if you ever want to, I'm here."
"Thanks, Quint," She smiled at him gratefully. "I'll keep that in mind."
He smiled back at her and then Big Mama arrived. Jack blinked rapidly for a few seconds. "You okay?" Dirk examined him.
"Who, me? Psh, yeah," Jack scoffed it off. "More than okay." Dirk removed his fingers from the wheel as they were clinging onto it. The boy whined a bit. "Okay, maybe a little shaken, but not stirred. I swear, I thought we were gonna be roadkill back there. But I don't wanna freak them out."
"Ha ha!" Dirk slammed on Jack's back, causing him to hit the horn with his face briefly. "I'll handle it. Quint! May!"
The two ran up to them. "Well, did you find June?" Quint wondered to him.
"Nope. Something better," Dirk revealed the ping-pong table, putting it down on the grass. "Ping-pong! Heh heh...ta-da!" He cheered awkwardly, May raising a brow at him. Quint also felt a bit weird that Dirk was acting like this. "So you wanna stand there like a dork, or you wanna play?" He held up the ping-pong paddles.
"Play, definitely!" Quint said happily as he barely caught the paddle thrown at him. "Okay, y-you serve." Dirk served it to him and it went out of bounds. "Ah, no fair!" They tried again and had a decent game going, Quint cheering as May smiled at the two. Rover went over to her and she rubbed his belly, laughing. Jack smiled at them having fun and then he heard Blarg roar in the distance. The others didn't seem to hear it as he looked out the window, seeing his back as the monster seemed to be closing in on them.
"Ah, come on! Can't I enjoy this for one minute?" He complained before opening up the door. He might as well get it over with... "So, no big deal or anything," He started off as he approached the three of them. "But...when we go out looking for June again...there's a ginormous monster that's out to get me, and it just almost killed us."
"What?!" Both May and Quint shouted in unison as she stood up and the ball hit Rover. It bounced off his nose and he chased after it, jumping over the fence. May turned to him in anger as she clenched her fists.
"Just an FYI."
"You can't just tell us that and say FYI like it's nothing!" May gestured to him, gritting her teeth.
"And you let us waste time playing ping-pong?" Quint exclaimed, also angry at Jack.
"Is playing ping-pong ever really a waste?" He pushed down the paddle.
"Of course not," The boys said in unison.
"And more importantly, you should have seen me driving backwards. I think I'm better driving backwards than forwards."
Quint rolled his eyes. "Jack," May said in a warning tone. "That's not the point."
"I'm serious," He pushed Jack off. "If we're being hunted by a giant monster, we need to protect ourselves, and the tree house. We need to arm it!"
"Yeah! That way if any more monsters start hunting you," May gave Jack a pointed look and he winced. "We can at least put up a fight."
"The Quint man and the May boss are right. Battle stations!"
"Good point, guys!" Jack smiled at them as he stood on the ping-pong table. "We must protect our home, especially if June's gonna live here with our family," He rubbed the back of his neck. The three glanced at each other after that last word.
"Family?" Dirk raised a brow at him.
"Well, you know, I mean-"
"I know what you mean," Quint interrupted with a smile.
"Either way, we need a postapocalyptic, monster-crushing, butt-kicking tree fortress of awesomeness!" He slid down the ping-pong table, Dirk adjusting it with just his finger. "Okay, I'm still working on the name, but you-you get the idea."
"Alright, let's do this," May smiled, a hand on her hip. Jack laughed nervously at her.
"Actually, I...need you to tune up Big Mama since I might've popped something on the way back," He pressed his fingers together anxiously. "And you're the only one here who's good with cars surprisingly, soooo..."
"Whoa, really?" Dirk turned to her in shock and she groaned in disbelief. She turned back to Big Mama...and a tire went flat as well as the hood spurting.
"Oh, you're so gonna get it when I'm done with this thing," May grumbled at Jack, who chuckled awkwardly.
"Sorry...but you can fix it, right?"
"Can I fix it, he asks?" She cracked her knuckles. "Get me a toolbox and I'll have it done by the time you finish. But I get to pick decorations for the tree house."
"Deal," He pointed at her with a grin.
"And don't ever come back with it like this!"
"Can't promise that," He shook his head.
He slammed down a blueprint, the other two looking over his shoulder. First they placed aerial weapons, and then spikes on the wood. Then they made up an armory before Quint pulled back a slingshot. He looked down to see May still working on Big Mama. Her back was on the grass as she looked at the front of the car from underneath. She pulled away for a second to chug down a soda entirely before sliding back, using a wrench. He smiled at how efficient she was, getting distracted and losing his grip. He screamed and Dirk grabbed his leg, stopping him from flying off. He sighed gratefully at Dirk. Dirk then dug up a trench, looking back at a grumpy-looking Quint. It was because Dirk had put some dirt on him, causing the former to laugh. Jack used a nearby fire extinguisher, and with help from Rover, got the water hose to work. May glanced behind her as Dirk had the end of it, Quint wiggling in mid-air. He felt a tug, looking back to see May holding on and he grinned at her.
"Feat complete. Constructed the tree fortress of awesomeness. And now it's time for..."
"Toss and Catch!" He and Quint cheered. The latter was in the pool holding a football. Jack jumped and Quint threw it. Jack missed it and belly flopped into the water.
"Belly flop!" The two laughed as May relaxed nearby, wearing a one-piece green bathing suit. Her hair was in a bun as she watched, giggling. Jack dove again while trying to catch the football, crashing into the water.
"Ugh...atomic belly flop," He groaned in pain.
Jack jumped and tossed the ball as he fell into the pool. Quint sat next to May as he came out of the water. "Nuclear belly flop!" The two boys cheered in unison, starting to splash each other and laughing. May gasped as she got hit too and she giggled, splashing them back. Dirk walked by with some boxes in his hands, and they started attacking him with water. He immediately dropped the boxes and pulled out a tennis ball launcher. He laughed as he fired them and May dove into the water immediately. The tennis balls fell into the water and when the three surfaced, they all laughed. They looked up to see Dirk at the diving board with a smirk on his face.
"Cannonball!" He dove forward and May quickly swam away, crawling out of the pool. As soon as Dirk landed in the water, he splashed a wave of water onto her and she screamed at the coldness of it. The four walked up to look at the treehouse.
"So, let's get back to the search," Jack placed his hands on his hips.
"Yes, friend," Quint spoke up. "But Dirk, May, and I were having a discussion."
"Aww," He wrapped his arms around them. "Buddy discussion. We're already like the Three Amigos, or...the Three Musketeers, I think. Where May's that fourth guy that joins in."
"D'Artagnan?" She deadpanned at him. "Even so, would you really call us Musketeers?"
"Or, the Tree Amigos," Quint joked and May shook her head in amusement.
"Yes!" Jack cheered at this.
"Ugh, shut up," Dirk shrugged them off.
"Jack," Quint removed Jack's arm off him. "The town is quite large, and we realize we could better search for June if we split up." Dirk revealed a saddle and threw it to Jack, who caught it in confusion.
"It's...a saddle. Thanks?"
"Dirk and May helped me make it out of an old motorcycle seat," Quint revealed to him.
"Wasn't that hard to remove, and we even managed to save some oil if Big Mama needs it," May smiled a bit.
"It's for Rover, you dope," Dirk informed as Rover got onto his feet. Jack tossed it onto him, using the latch to seal it. He then jumped on and it was a great fit.
"Wow. Thanks, guys. This is amazing!" Rover immediately took off and jumped over the fence.
"Shall we continue?" Quint held up the paddles, Jack screaming as the duo went over another fence. Dirk snatched the paddle from Quint.
"You're going down, Dingus," The two high-fived hard and he chuckled. Quint joined in and shook his hurting hand.
"Don't worry, he didn't see anything," May winked and he laughed nervously at her. "I guess I'll go look for June in Big Mama. Wish me luck," She walked over to the car.
"But you could watch us play! I guarantee a win for Quint," He grinned widely at the girl.
"I already watched you play, remember? And besides, I wanna check if Big Mama's doing okay after I gave it a tune-up," She patted the passenger seat. "See how it does on the road. Catch you guys later!" She got into the car and the fence opened up thanks to a button in the car. She then took off and Quint sagged his shoulders.
"Dude...I feel for you, that was a bit painful," Dirk commented after a few seconds, earning a groan from Quint. "She's more interested in the car than you."
"Whaaaat?" Quint feigned innocence to him. "I don't mind that!" He denied; he didn't want to come off like Jack had with June and potentially scare her off. Dirk just shrugged it off.
"If you say so. Now let's play," Dirk smirked as he served first.
"Oh! Stop!" Jack begged as Rover ran down the road. "Heel! Quit it!" He then saw spiked vines hanging from the bridge. "Yikes! Vine thingies!" He grabbed his slicer and chopped them off, looking back. Then he gasped as some paths were a bit too low for him. And so his face hit them. "Ow! Ee! Ooh! Ow!"
Rover jumped past a crowd of zombies and then went up a lamppost to get to the rooftops. He jumped to another building before landing on a different street, Jack hollering the entire time.
They eventually made it to a cliff, Jack sounding exhausted. "Well, that was the most terrifying 22 minutes of my life," He commented before seeing the view. "Wow. You can see the whole town," He state as he was looking down at the view of Wakefield. "What's left of it." He got out a camera to get a better look, closing in on the school. He zoomed in to see the field covered with zombies, most of them faculty. "Eesh. School's out forever," Then Jack noticed one particular zombie. "Hey! It's Merkins. Guess he won't be making me run laps anymore," He then saw a red sweater flying from a window, gasping. "I know that sweatshirt! Rover! That's June's sweatshirt!"
He smiled as he remembered some of the times she wore it.
She sat in class wearing it as they were taking a test. Jack just admired her from two seats away.
She talked to a student while wearing it, Jack staring at her from the top of the stairs.
She sniffed her blue sweater while at her locker, putting it into her backpack. He glanced at her from afar, smiling.
"Huh, she really wears that a lot," Jack commented to Rover. "What's that all about?"
Dirk and Quint were still playing when Jack and Rover came back jumping over the fence. A few seconds later, May arrived back at the tree house in Big Mama. "I know where June is, and I have a perfect plan to rescue her!" Jack exclaimed happily, though May didn't seem too enthusiastic to hear it. "We get in Big Mama, race across town, search the school, rescue June. Feat complete! Happily ever after." The three glanced at each other a bit awkwardly. "And we'll have Rover as a backup getaway vehicle in case anything goes wrong." A tennis ball got launched and Rover jumped after it.
"Or not," May remarked, a hand on her hip.
"He'll be back," Jack waved it off, slamming his hands together. "Let the amazingly awesome plan begin."
They all screamed while in Big Mama as a monster was chasing after the car. "Why do all these things wanna kill you?" Dirk shouted at the top of his lungs at Jack, who swerved to the left and hit a building. The monster also crashed into the building.
"Evaded the Spikipede."
They drove down the bridge and Quint winced as large tentacles rose out of the water. It knocked them into the air and when Big Mama landed, it grabbed the back and started pulling them. The four all screamed and Quint looked back while holding a launcher. He fired it and it was revealed to be a firework that exploded once it hit the monster.
"Bested the Octogrute!" Jack fist-bumped Quint.
"Quint, that was-"
"Uh! Look out!" Dirk pointed forward, interrupting May. They came across a pit and they screamed as they rolled down it. A monster looked up at them and growled. It stood up as Jack got a picture of it, to the disbelief of the others. They drove right underneath it and then back up a path.
"Slipped past the Stone Monster."
Finally, they arrived at the school, but he forgot about the zombies...he swerved back and forth to avoid them. "Jack! Look out!" Quint shouted as they could all swarm them at any minute or attack them right now.
"Oh, there's too many of them!"
They all screamed in terror as Jack turned around...and then crashed into a statue. The statue fell over and cracked the window, but wasn't enough to crash onto them inside the car. Jack chuckled nervously as Quint and May gave him looks. Because for the former, he'd have to explain the damage to his parents, and the latter because she had just fixed the car not too long ago. "My parents will be home eventually, and I will be blaming-"
"We know," Jack waved a hand. "Go, go, go!" They all rushed out of the car and headed for the school. Once they reached the doors, they were locked.
"Well, that's it. We're dead," Quint winced as the zombies caught up with them. May upper-fisted one with her shovel claws before knocking it into a group of other zombies. Dirk ripped open the door. He turned around and pushed back some more zombies as the others went in. He knocked down one more before going inside and putting the door back in place. He double locked it and they all let out a sigh of relief.
Then they took a moment to look at their surroundings as the school looked kinda creepy with the vines Quint gulped as they looked around. He then tried to look brave for May, who didn't notice. "Guys, I know she's in here," Jack spoke up to them, pulling out his slicer. "Let's get going." They walked forward, going through the dark hallway. One of the doors creaked. "Wow, so dark in here." The three heard a click as suddenly there was some light. "Thanks."
They turned around to see Quint having opened up his lab coat, revealing that he was wearing a light vest. Dirk just laughed at him. "You look like the world's lamest Christmas tree." Quint glanced at his vest and then at Dirk, annoyed.
"Dirk," May narrowed her eyes at him. "Not cool."
"Uh, sorry. Old habits," He rubbed his neck sheepishly.
"Another Quint Co. Invention. When it's just a little cold out, you need a light vest—a light vest!"
"Not now, Quint. Later," Jack told him gently. "After we've done heroic June rescuing."
"Good idea."
"Well, either way, thanks for the assistance, Quint," May placed a hand on his shoulder and he flinched. "Your inventions are really helping us out today. Like with the fireworks, that was really impressive."
"Oh, n-no problem, May," He looked away with a bashful look on his face. They continued walking down the dark hallway.
"It doesn't look like anybody's been here for a long time," Dirk glanced at abandoned backpacks and homework. "Sorry, Jack, she's probably long gone by now." May winced at his suggestion.
"We knew it was a long shot-" A noise was heard and they all stopped, gasping.
"Hey, did you guys hear-"
"I heard, I heard," Quint shook in fear, smiling at May so that he could hide his fear. A doorknob juggled and they looked around the corner.
"It came from down here," Dirk whispered as the door was banged from the inside. "It's coming from the teacher's lounge." The banging continued and Jack stepped forward.
"I always wondered what went on in there." The others followed so that they could at least investigate.
"You know, they have their own couch, and 3D printer, and car wash, and microwave!" Jack reached out his hand to the doorknob. A microwave was heard dinging and then suddenly zombies stormed in while shaping into a giant ball.
"A zombie ball!" Quint shouted as they made a break for it. The zombies rolled after them as they skidded around the hallway. Jack let May, Quint, and Dirk run past him so that he could get a better look at the zombie ball. He took a picture as May came back, gripping his wrist with an annoyed look on her face.
"Admire it when we get away from it!" She shouted, rushing forward as he screamed. They rushed down the hallway. Jack looked down at his camera and frowned as he didn't get a good shot.
"Too close. Just looks like a candid of Mr. Vukojevitch."
"Less photoing, more running!" Dirk screamed as Quint was in the lead. They glanced behind them as the zombie ball rolled down after them.
"This is just like-"
"Indiana Jones!" Jack and Quint exclaimed in unison.
"I know, but with zombies, right?" Jack smiled at him.
"Again, you spend way too much time together!" Dirk looked over his shoulder.
"Enough, let's just find somewhere we can hide from them!" May told all of them while leading the way.
"The stairs!" Jack started running up them.
"Excellent idea, friend!" Quint called out as they reached the top of the staircase.
"Let's see you climb a staircase, you big ball of bile!"
The zombie ball groaned and then gripped the railing, to their disbelief. "The zombie ball! It's evolving!" The zombie ball started walking on two legs to reach them, Jack looking at it with a small smile while the others took off.
"You gotta admit, that's pretty impress—ah!" Quint pulled him away as they ran down another hallway. They reached double doors, but found them locked. The zombie ball had caught up with them. May kicked at it several times in a panic, but that didn't do anything either.
"It won't budge. Something's jamming it closed," Dirk punched at it. Jack looked back in horror.
"Mother of crudballs! We're trapped!" Jack exclaimed with wide eyes as the zombie ball closed in on them. All of them froze in place as they had no idea how to fight it off or escape from it. The zombie ball got even closer while Dirk kept trying to ram the door. "I'm so sorry, guys. I dragged us into this, and now we're totally doomed." They all screamed as they thought it was over...suddenly the doors opened behind them. They fell onto the ground as the double doors were closed. "What happened?" Jack rubbed the back of his neck in confusion. "Who opened the doors?"
June stood in front of them as she barricaded the entryway. She turned around to them in defense while holding a spear. "What are you idiots doing here?"
Jack gasped upon realizing she was their savior. "June! You're not undead!" He cheered, hands on his cheeks.
"Well, duh," She rolled her eyes. The girl then glanced to May, scoffing. "Maylin," June glared at her, earning a glare right back.
"June," She remarked back, crossing her arms.
"What's with that hostile greeting?" Jack asked Quint and Dirk quietly as they just watched.
"My guess is, they weren't very friendly before all this happened," Quint told him.
"Thanks for bringing Little Miss Perfect here. Really needed that," June commented bitterly, earning a small laugh from May.
"Oh! And like being with Ms. Hothead is any better."
"Ladies, ladies, let's calm down," Jack waved his hands to try and ease the tension. "Fear not. We're here to rescue y-"
A zombie hand suddenly broke the window before it rammed the door completely. One of them gripped Jack's leg, causing him to scream. June then smacked it away with her spear, pushing them back. Dirk shouted as he was getting cornered by some and then she slammed her spear in front of Jack, causing him to yelp. She spun around using her staff and knocked down all of the zombies.
"Whoa," All the boys commented, May rolling her eyes.
"This way!" June guided them down the hall. She pushed her way into a room, and they stopped as they found that a stack of desks blocked their way.
"It's a dead end." They were all stacked to the ceiling, June using one of them to slip through easily, landing on the other side safely.
"Come on, guys, move it or lose it!" She ordered and May huffed.
"Whoa," Jack murmured at her.
"She is a ninja," Dirk smiled a little. May stepped backwards several feet and then took off running. She did a front flip before hurling herself into the air, doing a cartwheel. She then hugged her legs as she spun above all the desks, shocking the boys. She rolled safely on her feet once she got to the other side, standing up in front of June.
"Huh. All that cheerleading must come in handy. Surprised it's got you this far."
"Real rich coming from a grouch," May pointed at her, earning a growl from June.
Jack slipped through the blockage, but his backpack got caught on one of them and he fell, the desk hitting his head. "I'm good! That desk was loose," He stated awkwardly, June rolling his eyes. Dirk struggled to get out as he was stuck right at the other side. "Okay, now I don't feel so bad."
"Okay, should I go left or right? Yeah, yeah, so..." He reached out to a desk and May stepped up. She reached in and grabbed his hand, pulling him out.
"How are you guys even alive?" June asked in disbelief as the trio pulled out Dirk, falling to the ground. The zombies stormed in, starting to grab at them. "It won't hold them back for long," June ran off first while one of the zombies knocked down a desk. June pressed her hand and ear to a door as they joined her. "Wait...wait."
A zombie approached the door. "Now!" She slammed the door into his face and they ran off, the other zombies stumbling out.
"So yeah, like I was saying, before you saved us a bunch of times," Jack started off as they ran. "Your worries are over!" However, June was still battling zombies and she ran off, not acknowledging him at all. "Okay..." He caught up to her as she kept her eyes up ahead. "Slow down. I'm here to save-"
A zombie came out from a classroom, Quint ducking from it. May stepped in and knocked it down with her shovel claw. June did the same with her spear. "Stay to the side," She told all four of them, May grunting.
"What?" Jack asked in disbelief, Quint squealing a bit at a zombie. He tried to pretend it was a cough in front of May, who didn't really react or comment. The zombies fell to the shiny floor, which Quint noticed.
"She waxed the middle of the floor. Brilliant!"
Jack smiled at June, admiring her as she held an arm in front of him. My future girlfriend is a strategic zombie-battling genius. As he continued looking at her, she eventually noticed and snapped her fingers in front of him.
"Hey, snap out of it!" She warned before they continued running to get away from the zombies.
"And I said to the guys, we gotta go find her," Jack explained to June as she opened up the door to an air vent. "So we came here to rescue you, as soon as I saw your sign," They all landed inside of a classroom that June had blocked off from the inside. Hence why they came in through the vent so that no one would know where her living space was.
"What sign?" June didn't seem to know what Jack was talking about.
"The sweatshirt. You hung your sweatshirt out the window," Jack told her.
"Wait. You know what I wear?" She asked as she felt a bit weirded out. Dirk fell from the vent and crashed into something. She immediately turned around in alarm to see him on the floor.
"Uh, I'm okay!" He waved a hand as May was the last one in.
"That wasn't a sign. I hung it out to dry, you weirdo," June retorted to Jack. "I do not need saving. And you blundering in here has just made things worse."
"What?" He asked, baffled at her behavior and her being angry.
"You just filled the only path to the cafeteria—where I get my food-" She slammed down the window. "With zombies!" She gritted her teeth. "It took weeks to secure that hall."
"Uh, okay. Clearly you're still in shock," Jack said and May shook her head at his denial that June wasn't in need of a rescue. She seemed to be doing just fine. "This is a rescue mission. And I'm here to take you with us, to the tree house."
"No!" She glared at him. "I've gotta stay here."
"Why?" He wondered curiously.
"None of your beeswax. Now, feel free to help yourself to some juice boxes, or some old textbooks, and have a great apocalypse. Except you," She pointed at May, who held up her hands.
"Fine by me, I don't wanna stay here any longer than I have to," She argued back as Dirk poured Quint some water into a breaker, both boys laughing. May stormed up to the air vent.
"Wait, what? But...what? Are you...what?!" Jack couldn't believe what he was hearing.
"You need to leave, now!" She insisted to him.
"Okay, but it's super dark, and, uh...Quint twisted his ankle and May fell," Jack lied so that he could try and convince her to go with them if they stayed.
"Uh, I did?" Quint wiggled his foot as May turned around to him.
"I did not-"
He tossed his slicer at her feet and she slipped, catching herself while glaring at him. "And Dirk is falling apart emotionally, just a wreck," Jack shook his head. Dirk used the gallon of water as a dumbbell.
"Nah, I'm cool, bro," He dismissed, June keeping her glare on him.
"At least let us stay the night," Jack pleaded with her.
"Hmph," She crossed her arms, keeping her stance.
"Okay, I get it. I'll leave," He dropped his shoulders, upset that she wouldn't hear him out. "Let me just take care of this," He bent down to his shoe, starting to tie it. "Over, under, around the zombie horde, through the night, alone, in the apocalypse," He looked up at her pleadingly. If they left, they'd get attacked by zombies, and they would have to go all the way back to the school exit. She sighed in defeat at Jack.
"Fine."
Jack gasped, pumping a fist. "Woo-hoo!"
"But just one night," She held up her finger, placing her hands on her hips. She looked down at his feet. "I really hope that's not how you tie your shoes."
"I'll tie my shoes any way you want me to tie my-" She narrowed her eyes in warning. "Uh, sorry, I made it weird."
"Stay the night? I didn't even bring a toothbrush," Quint looked up at Dirk. "And dental hygiene is the second most important type of hyg-"
"Come on," Dirk pushed him away while rolling his eyes. May just sighed, shaking her head and ignoring June, who looked a little miffed that May would be here.
"This is gonna be great," Jack smiled happily, rubbing his chin.
He flung ketchup packets at a portrait using a slingshot. He laid down on the floor in dismay. "This stinks. So what do you around here for fun?' He looked to June, who was sharpening her spear.
"Well, right now I'm accommodating four ungrateful people who crashed my place," She gestured to them.
"Who?" Dirk groaned as he turned around while laying on a pillow. "Oh, right..."
"And you call us ungrateful," May muttered loud enough to hear, June grunting at her.
"Okay, okay, take it easy," Jack stood up, waving his hands. "Look, thanks for letting us stay the night and everything, but can we do something while we're here? Let's explore the school! It could be fun."
"Or fatal," June corrected him.
"Ah, come on, you'll see," He waved it off. "Hanging with us is awesome, right, Dirk?" Dirk just mumbled in his sleep. "And coming from him, that's like five stars out of five."
"We could find all the protractors in the building!" Quint suggested with a smile, standing up.
"Yeah! Or anything else. Come on!" They rushed towards the door aside from June, Jack having moved the chair away from the door. He looked back to the girl, who just went back to sharpening her spear. He turned away and walked off in disappointment.
"Hmm..." June looked at a beaker marked Friday and then heard screams from Quint and May. She stood up with a gasp, dropping the beaker and rushing outside. She was surprised to see Dirk pushing Quint in an empty waste basket down the hallway. May was right on their tail, riding one like a skateboard.
"Come on, June! I'm losing!" Jack looked up at her while also sitting in a waste basket, using a mop to roll down the hall. "I need you to push."
Dirk turned around as May skidded to a stop using her foot, smirking. "You will not best us in this contest of speed, Captain Danger!"
"Won't stop me from winning!" May took off first, Dirk pushing Quint past them.
"Hey, no fair getting a head start!" Dirk called out to May, who just laughed at him.
"Don't hate the player, hate the game!"
"Oh yeah, Tiger Pants?" Jack shouted, holding up the mop to June. "Come on, it's dumb and easy, just like...field hockey," He waved it in her face and she snatched it.
"Dumb and easy, huh?" She slammed it into the waste basket, her and Jack smirking at each other. She turned around and ran down the hall after the three. Jack cheered as they raced.
Then they stacked books together, playing like Jenga as Quint grabbed one and let the books fall. "Yeah! Whoa!" He looked at Dirk in the pile of books, all of them laughing together in the classroom.
Jack tossed around a small cheese ball, trying to grab it in his mouth. June jumped around and caught them in her mouth. "Oh, yeah!" Dirk yelled as he was throwing them to her, Quint doing the same thing with Jack. The winner team laughed at Quint and Jack, May just grinning.
Jack and June rolled down in trash cans wearing helmets down the stairs. They crossed the finish line that May, Dirk, and Quint had made, all of them laughing.
Five zombies all groaned as they walked one by one in a line. Above their heads, the five all did a little dance together.
Then they played a make-shift game of bowling, Jack using a globe to knock down some trophies. They all cheered as he managed to get all of them.
They threw utensils at the ceiling to see which would stick. Dirk tossed up a chair, laughing as it managed to stick.
All of them held up fire extinguishers and activated them while sitting in chairs. They all flew backwards except for Quint, who spun around out of control. May just giggled at him and he noticed it, smiling at her.
Jack drew on a portrait so that the man would look like a vampire. He admired it and then looked to June. "Whoa!" He laughed, impressed that she drew on a portrait to make the lady look like a queen.
Dirk and Quint beatboxed together while the former took pictures, laughing. May just leaned against the doorway, shaking her head with a small smile. Jack was looking at a piece of paper and June noticed him doing so. "What's that?" She asked curiously.
"List of apocalyptic successes," He answered and she tried to peek. He got defensive and turned around.
"Oh! Private, huh? Well, there's one of your successes," June turned around and he looked to see a photo of himself posing with a statue. "I was gonna put that photo you took on the front page of the school paper."
"Seriously?!" Jack asked in shock, giving June time to snatch his paper.
"Yoink! Beat a Dozer in a foot race," She read off and he tried to get it back, but she pushed him away. "Steal the hats off five zombies," She raised a brow.
"Yeah, so? I told you I was awesome," He tried once more to snatch it, but she stood up.
"Are you making this whole thing a game?" June asked in disbelief as May winced quietly, inching away from the door awkwardly so that she wouldn't have to listen to them. "Dude! It's the end of the world!"
"Okay, okay, hold on, hold on," He got onto his feet. "Uh, number one, were you serious about putting my photo on the front page?"
"Jack!" She yelled in protest.
"Uh, okay. And...number two..." He sighed slowly, walking up to a table. "I'm trying as hard as I can to make the best of a seriously bad situation," He leaned against the windowsill, looking at the ground. "I mean, look, it's terrible, but I'm not just gonna give up. Some days are way scary." He glanced out the window to look at the zombies. "And...sometimes things are pretty freaking sad. But I'm trying real, real hard here to keep on living and have as much fun as I can with friends."
She looked away and then read something else. "Wait! Rescuing a damsel?" She narrowed her eyes. "Specifically June Del Toro?" He gulped as he forgot he had that on there, especially with her name on it. "I'm one of your feats?!"
"Uh, no! That's from my, uh, non-feats list, like my outrageous, things-that-aren't-real list," He tried to play it off, but she still looked angry. "Uh, must be a mix-up here. Strange." She crumpled it up and threw it at his head. She then stormed off, before stopping at the door.
"Be ready to leave first thing in the morning." She slammed the door so hard she broke off the glass.
"That...could have gone better."
A wretch flew in the night while Dirk, Quint, and May were asleep. Well, Quint was trying to, he had a paper over his head because of the snoring. A hand held out some earplugs and he looked up to see May bending down while holding them. He smiled and took them from her. She then laid next to him on her side, falling back asleep. He grinned at her being so close, falling asleep happily and touching her hand while doing so. Jack woke up to a noise, looking around and seeing that June wasn't on the couch. He opened the door, looking to the right to see a hallway door close. He went up the staircase as a door was heard closing up ahead. He opened up the door to the roof to see June sitting there. She sighed sadly to herself and he opened the door.
"Ha!" She threw a throwing star made out of a projector, thankfully missing.
"Aah! Nice protractor throwing star," He smiled weakly at her.
"Sorry. I'm not exactly used to having anyone else around. Especially Maylin Yoon," She said the name in disgust, standing up.
"Going back to that later...what are you doing up here?" He walked up to her.
She took a tennis ball. "Mrs. Stalder-Burke, in the back of the head," She readied a tennis ball launcher and the ball did indeed hit a zombie in the back of the head.
"Whoa! You totally called it!"
"Yeah," She stated while holding another one. "It's something I do when I get frustrated."
"Yeah? What are you frustrated about?" He placed a hand on his cheek. She glared at him and that was when he was reminded about the last time they talked. "Oh, right..."
"No, it's not you...entirely," She revealed while sagging her shoulders. "Wanna try?" She grinned while holding out a tennis ball to him.
"Heck yeah! Watch this!" He grabbed it from her. "Mrs. Moore, right in the lady mustache!" He threw it at a tree and it fell, instead landing on another zombie, a wig falling off into a car.
"You're horrible at this game," June mocked him playfully.
"Aha! So it is a game," He rubbed his chin. "You do enjoy amusement."
"Don't push it," She grunted in defense, crossing her arms and looking away.
"...So, when this all started...did I imagine it, or did you, like, look at me right before you ducked into the school?" He asked her curiously. She closed her eyes and looked away. June then opened her eyes and glanced at him.
"You were the last person I saw alive that day. After that, things got bad."
The portal was still active as the zombies ran rampant. One of them screeched at June, who ran towards the school. "Running, hiding..." She shut the doors closed. "Raiding the vending machines at night," She broke one open with her spear. "And then, on the fourth day, I saw them," She was eating a bag of chips on the roof. She looked worried as she waved her hands. "My parents, on the rescue bus." June waved to her parents on the bus, who saw her, but were being attacked by monsters. Therefore, they couldn't stop the bus, and June couldn't reach them if she went down there. "But there were too many monsters, too many zombies." June ran to the edge of the roof as she could only watch the bus drive further away. "They couldn't get to me, and I couldn't get to them..."
June stood there with her eyes closed. "I know my parents will come back for me. And when they do, they'll be looking for me here. That's why I can't leave."
"But...you could leave them a note saying you're at the tree house," Jack suggested to her. "Heck, I saw your note when you weren't even trying to leave one. It's better than staying here all alone," He placed a hand on her shoulder. "Believe me, I know what it's like to be alone." She looked away sadly. She didn't want to be alone, but her parents were still out there somewhere... "...Uh, Mr. Wallaby's booty! No backboard," He grabbed a tennis ball and then stood on the edge of the roof. "Nothing but net." He tossed the ball, which hit a sign, a car, and then rolled onto the ground. A zombie stepped on it, thereby falling onto other zombies to knock all of them down. Jack winced as he didn't mean for that to happen.
"You are a dinosaur-sized doofus," June chuckled a bit as she left his side.
"Yeah, maybe," He shrugged at her, stepping down. "But I'm telling you, June, the apocalypse is better with friends," He offered with a smile and she raised a skeptic brow. "I saw that on a bumper sticker once..."
She sighed a bit. "...Just don't make me interact with May too much."
"What's your beef with her?" Jack raised a brow. "She saved me and Quint when the apocalypse started, she helped fix our car, and she was the coolest girl in school!"
"Don't ask," June grunted a bit. "May and I weren't exactly buddy-buddy in school. I just...can't stand how perfect she was. And when I became editor of the school paper, she wasn't too happy about it."
"Well, we'll figure something out," He rubbed his neck, wondering how he was gonna have them get along. He definitely didn't want the two fighting all the time if June was gonna stay with them.
"Okay, now tell me about this tree house," June changed the subject.
"Yes! You're gonna love it," Jack smiled widely at her. "It's got a zipline, a diving board, a moat, telescopes, and-"
"Stop talking," She pointed, confusing him. "You had me at zipline," She grinned widely and he gasped happily. "But...let me make one thing absolutely clear," She stepped forward and he smiled nervously at her. "I am no damsel in distress!" She gripped his shirt, gritting her teeth at him.
"...Let me jot that down." June released him and left for the door. Jack then danced around happily, running after her. "We'll be like the four musketeers...but for five," He stated in excitement as everyone fathered around. June and May gave each other a brief glare. "We can eat cake for breakfast and stay up as late as we want, and play video games 24/7 and-"
A monster roared, interrupting Jack as he recognized it unfortunately. He looked towards the window while the others stood on their guard.
"Blarg..." He murmured in recognition.
"What?" June turned to him in confusion. "What is that?"
He looked out the window as it was starting to get a little less dark. In the distance, a few trees were moved away to reveal Blarg himself. He let out a giant roar and they ducked to hide. "Okay, so that's Blarg. Blarg, June. June, Blarg," Jack informed to her. "It's the gigantic monster, out to get me, that, uh, maybe, sort of, followed me here."
"WHAT?!" She stood up in anger. "Didn't you say you had this postapocalyptic thing down?"
"I do. Pretty much. Mostly." May just facepalmed at him. "End of the world has a steep learning curve."
"Leading a ginormous monster right to my door is not what I call having it down," She then tossed her spear and it landed on a poster.
"Uh, I know, I know, you're right!" He held his head as a, he forgot about Blarg and b, he was too focused on trying to find and 'rescue' June. "This is my fault. But even more, it's his fault! Stupid Blarg." He then opened up the window.
"Wait, no, what-"
"Go on!" Jack interrupted May, who looked horrified as did the others of what he was doing. "Get out of here! Beat it!" He shouted at the top of his lungs. May, Quint, and Dirk all covered his mouth and pulled him away, but it was unfortunately too late. Quint and Dirk closed the window as they all glared at him for what he did. He laughed as they surrounded him. "What? I was angry."
"And now, it knows where we are!" June shouted at Jack.
"I...oh, right."
"I would be angry at you, but right now, we gotta focus on the giant monster coming here," May crossed her arms. They peeked out the window as Blarg was facing the school, but didn't seem to be doing anything for some reason.
"So why doesn't he attack?" June wondered as Blarg stepped forward, smashing a car. "And why did he trip over that car?" Blarg let out another roar and June stood up, facing Jack. "Tell me everything you know about this Bloog."
"It's Blarg," Quint corrected her.
"Whatever," She retorted back, raising a brow.
"Well..." Dirk scratched his head.
"Please tell me you haven't spent all your time playing zombie basketball and have some actual intel on this thing," June rolled her eyes, but they didn't have any answers. May looked away while whistling.
"We estimate it's approximately 40 feet tall, with armored skin, razor claws, and smells, disturbingly, like Josh."
"Who?" June asked him in confusion since she didn't know a Josh.
"A kid I went to elementary school with," Quint told her, annoyed from the memory. He then looked at the book again. "Wait! Wait at the pale green eyes! If he's like other creatures, that would mean..."
"His low light vision is poor!" He and May said in unison. "Jinx!" They smiled at each other happily.
"That's why he tripped over the car! He can't see in the dark!" Dirk grinned at them.
"Now that's good intel. The parking lot doesn't have that much cover, but if we get up before dawn, I think we could sneak past it."
"Forget it," Jack muttered, getting their attention. "The sun is almost up, Blarg is on top of us, there's zombies everywhere. I'm sorry, this is all my fault," He held his head and then June narrowed her eyes. She stepped forward and kicked his chair backwards.
"Hey!" He crashed into the bookshelf, a book falling on his head. He rubbed the top of his head as he stared at her. "You wanted to be a hero! Now stop apologizing, and help me plan an escape strategy." She then threw a tennis ball into his hands and he tossed it up. He then smirked at the four.
"Alright! It's game time."
He opened up the supply closet, where they armored themselves with sports equipment...as well as food. June sharpened her spear, blowing on it. They all stood together, ready to go out...except for Quint, who wasn't with them. Jack looked around to look for him. "Where's Quint?"
The door slammed open to reveal him not having any armor. "I'm armored—armored with science!" He had a belt around his body and waist. "Postapocalyptic tactical chemistry belt, smoke flash capsules, insta-flame tablets, sulfuric stick bomb, acid eye blast. I raided the chemistry lab."
"That is both cool and terrifying at the same time," May sweated a little, the others shocked by all the stuff he had on him.
"Dude, you're scaring me right now. And I freaking love it!" Jack cheered, the others smiling.
"Yeah, I'm with Jack on this one. Nice thinking, Quint," May placed a hand on her hip.
"Maylin Yoon thinks-"
"You said you'd stop that," She warned him and he clamped his mouth shut.
"Sorry. Couldn't help it."
The five all walked down the hallway together. June then left something on one of the lockers. It was actually a poster of her photo and a map to the tree house for her parents to find when they would comeback.
"Three, two, uno!" They all charged for the door, Jack opening it. He looked at all the zombies still walking around the courtyard. He slowly stepped past them, followed by the others. Then a loud stomp was heard and they looked up to see Blarg, who hadn't noticed them yet as his back was turned. "Shh," Jack waved them forward. Blarg sniffed the air as they silently walked forward. Dirk stepped on a branch, but that was enough to get the zombies' attention as they were now surrounded. They charged forward to attack the group, Dirk pushing several away. Jack, May, and June all fought them off with their weapons. "June!"
She flipped a zombie onto the ground, turning to him. "What?"
"Nice," He grinned widely at her, a zombie grabbing his shoulders. He screeched, everyone turning to him. Quint grabbed something and almost dropped it, tossing it into the zombie's eyeball. The zombie screamed from the stink bomb and they ran off. Blarg sniffed around again as they made it to Big Mama. "Feat complete. Stealth escape."
"Nice parking," June remarked as the statue was still in the window.
Jack laughed awkwardly, holding up the key. "And away we-" He revved up the car...but the headlights alerted Blarg to them and he roared. "Feat not complete!"
"Turn off the lights!" Dirk quickly turned them off, but Blarg had already noticed them. He grabbed the statue with his mouth, all of them screaming. He then slammed down on the front, snarling at them. Jack looked at the others as they looked panicked.
"We're all gonna be Blarg food..." He looked at his shoes that still had tape on them, getting an idea. "Unless..." He jumped out of the car.
"Get back here!" Dirk shouted as the others stared in disbelief.
"What are you doing?" June demanded as he ripped off the tape, hitting his heels together. He then started dancing, Blarg staring at him.
"Your dance moves are way lousy," Quint commented, the others cringing at him. May glanced between Blarg and Jack.
"I think he's trying to get Blarg to focus on him," She told them.
"Yeah, they are! You guys go. I'll lead him away," He explained to the group.
"No, we're not leaving you," June denied, shaking her head.
"Fine! Then I'm leaving you!" He stepped back a bit.
"Jack! Acid eye blast!" Quint tossed a vial with purple liquid. Jack held out his hands, hoping to catch it...and it fell onto the grass in front of him.
"We're bad at this!"
"Simply awful, friend," Quint stated as Blarg landed in front of the car, snarling at Jack. He picked up the vial and then ran off, Blarg chasing after him.
"Go, go, go!" Dirk shouted as Quint drove off. As Jack ran, Blarg destroyed cars as they went down the road.
"So stupid. So stupid. So stupid," He scolded himself as the sun was starting to rise already. He skidded to a stop as he saw that he was facing a dead end. He turned around as Blarg had caught up to him and he backed away. Blarg growled at him. "Alright, Blarg!" He took out a slingshot. "Take a face full of science" He hit Blarg with the acid eye vial, Blarg roaring in pain...and that made two of his eyes worse as they were now both red with green acid surrounding them. "Blarg's leveled up. Acid Blarg. Bubbling forehead wound. Chemically mangled mug. Look on his face like, this time it's personal." Blarg roared again and acid fell in front of Jack. "Oh, crud, about to die face."
Blarg raised his arms and roared...only for a small orange ball to hit him. He looked to his right to see Rover running up from the rooftops. He jumped forward and hit Blarg's right side of his face, landing in front of Jack.
"Rover!" He exclaimed in relief, jumping onto the saddle. "I knew you'd be back." He hugged him gratefully, Blarg roaring. Rover ran off, jumping onto a roof just as Blarg hit it with his arm. Rover ran off snarling, sliding around the corner. Blarg was hot on their tails, crashing into a building. Quint drove the car, swerving between lanes while Rover followed the car from above. Jack screamed as Rover jumped off the roof, ending up next to the car. "Oh! Hey guys!"
"You're alive!" June smiled as they looked happy to see he was okay.
"So far," He added in with a smile. Then she noticed Rover.
"And...And..." She pointed at it, unable to finish her sentence.
"Yep! We have a pet monster," He petted Rover, who stuck out his tongue at June.
"So glad I decided to come with you guys. Even you, May."
May blinked and gave a small smile. "You're not entirely bad either, June."
Rover ran past a zombie, followed by Big Mama and then Blarg, who crashed through the fence to run after them. "He's right behind us!" Blarg threw some acid onto a rearview mirror, shocking the others.
"Oh, that's not good."
"To the tree house!" Jack declared while holding up his slicer. The tree house was in their sights as they drove in the area.
"Time for some nitrous oxide!" Quint pressed a button to make the car go turbo and they skidded around the car, crashing through a house. Blarg fell on top of it.
"Cool!" May smiled at Quint, who chuckled bashfully at the compliment.
"Well, I..."
"Quint! Activate the defenses," Jack interrupted him.
"I am in favor of that idea," He got out of the driver's seat, June taking over as he pulled out a remote. He pulled up several screens and then activated the lights on the tree house. He also activated all of the weapons and catapults. The fence opened and they jumped off a ramp, turning around sharply.
"Fire!" Jack shouted, Quint doing so as Blarg arrived. Some fridges hit Blarg in the head while the five climbed up to the top. They looked back, seeing Blarg literally tear away a house as he was solar focused on them. He snorted out green smoke.
"We can't stay here! He'll tear this place apart!" June exclaimed in a panic.
"No," Jack narrowed his eyes in determination and she looked at him in surprise. "We're gonna stay and defend it. My whole life, I've never had a home worth fighting for or friends to share it with. But now I do. And I'm not giving it up without a fight! I'm not-"
Dirk grabbed him by his backpack and pulled him away. "Less speeches, more fighting!" The others ran off to find more weapons to fire. Blarg destroyed another house as they ran up to the edge. Blarg stepped on the fence that enclosed the tree house.
"Outer defenses breached!" Quint informed all of them.
"To Valhalla!" Jack shouted, pointing a finger.
"What?" June looked at him in confusion.
"Fire! Fire everything!"
Blarg lunged forward, Quint flinging a football into Blarg's stomach.
"Fridge-apult!" Dirk tossed another fridge into Blarg's mouth, but he smashed it. "Oh, that didn't work!" The fridge snapped into pieces, falling to the ground. June fired a tennis ball launcher, hitting Blarg in the face.
May pulled up a soda bottle launcher, opening up a dispenser of mints. She then used a mechanism that popped off the lids and tossed the mints inside. She pointed the launcher at Blarg and the soda spurted out at him, spraying him in the eyes, but it didn't do much.
Jack fired off fireworks, hitting Blarg's body, but it still wasn't enough. June looked up as Blarg roared, raising an arm. "Hey! Watch out!" He screamed, diving forward and pushing her out of the way. Blarg then destroyed the part of the platform that June had been standing on. She also dropped the tennis ball launcher as they looked up at Blarg.
"Hey!" He looked up at Quint. "Eat flash capsules!" He placed some in the slingshot and fired them. Blarg roared and turned away after being hit.
"Quint magic!" Jack exclaimed, but Blarg got up again and turned around. Quint screamed as Blarg roared while being face-to-face with him.
"Hey! Butt breath!" He looked up to Dirk. "Why don't you pick on someone your own size?" He fired a football and May smiled as that was what Jack said to him before the apocalypse started. The football hits Blarg and Dirk continued firing them. Blarg then roared acid and they had to duck for cover. Acid bubbled underneath Dirk and he screamed as he fell through the floor and into the tree house. "That was unnecessary roughness..."
May was about to fire the soda launcher again, but Blarg roared acid again, causing her to drop it. Quint grabbed her hand, pulling her away before she could fall. "We've exhausted all the tree house weapons!"
"We've still got Big Mama! Ready the harpoon!" Jack called out to them. Quint pulled out the remote, the harpoon raising itself. Blarg stood up and then slammed down so hard that everyone fell. Quint then dropped the remote.
"Oh no! The remote!"
"We've gotta get it back, we can't get down to Big Mama without him noticing!" May groaned from the ground.
"Operation Retrieve Quint's Harpoon Remote!" June declared, running out of her hiding place.
"June!" Jack cried out in worry.
"Fear not, Jack!" She grabbed a rope and swung down the tree, grabbing the remote. "I'm here to rescue y-" Blarg swiped at the rope, knocking her down.
"NO!"
June landed on a tree branch, dropping the remote. Jack dove forward and caught it. Rover ran over and bit Blarg in his leg, causing him to roar in pain. Jack stood up and aimed the harpoon.
"Jack! More to the right!" June called out from her spot, Jack doing as she said.
"A little higher," Quint advised as he moved it upwards.
"You're almost there!" May added in as Jack looked anxious about the angling.
"Just fire already!" Dirk screamed from inside the treehouse. Jack fired the harpoon...but Blarg stood up and it went right past him, shocking everyone.
"No!" Quint yelled at this. Rover leapt forward, but Blarg grabbed him and threw him into the treehouse.
"Rover!" Jack shouted in concern, the treehouse starting to shake.
"Hang on!" June warned them all as they started to slip. May gasped as she slid to a stop, hanging onto the edge. She tried to grab Quint, but couldn't as he fell into the pool. He emerged as May's hand slipped and then Jack's slicer also fell. Rover jumped forward and caught her on his back. Jack's slicer fell right in front of Quint.
"Whoa!"
"Sorry, buddy!" Blarg roared again and Jack looked up in horror as the monster set his sights on him, growling. He looked down at his slicer. "Quint! The slicer! Toss and catch!"
"But you can't catch!" Quint protested as May slid down Rover's back. "And I can't toss!"
"Today we can," Jack climbed back up to the platform, Blarg snarling up at him. "Today we will!"
Quint pulled it out of the grass, Jack running into the treehouse to prepare himself. He stared down Blarg, letting out a deep breath. Blarg let out another roar as Jack rushed forward. He let out a shout as he jumped. "Toss!" Quint threw it to him.
"And...catch!" Jack caught it in his hand, smiling.
"Oh, yeah!" Quint cheered, pumping a fist.
"Alright!" May cheered as well, earning a bashful smile from the boy. Blarg held out a hand while Jack raised the slicer above his head. As he got closer to the monster, everyone watched in anticipation. Jack then landed on Blarg's outreached arm.
"Not grabbing me this time!" He ran up the arm, jumping forward and stabbing Blarg in the head!
"Yes!" Dirk screamed while the others cheered. Blarg swung around in pain, letting out a roar as Jack hung onto the slicer. Blarg then slowly fell onto the ground, Jack tumbling onto the grass. The monster laid there, unable to get up as Jack looked towards him. He let out a roar and then died.
"We...we did it!" Jack stood up slowly.
"That...was...awesome!" June punched his shoulder once she reached him.
"Hey, dork! Stop smiling," Dirk slid down the rope as May and Quint came over. "Wasn't that cool."
"We all know you're lying," May smirked at him and he clamped his mouth shut. Jack looked towards Blarg in victory, taking out the slicer. It felt like a hero moment with all his friends cheering from below as he stood on top of the monster.
"Wait. I don't have to pretend imagine this. It's actually happening," He smiled as they continued celebrating. "Ultimate feat complete! No, no, wait! This was an even more ultimate feat," He jumped down to the four, all of them huddling together with smiles. "We formed an awesome team. We defended our home. And we took down the boss-level bad guy!" They all smiled up at the treehouse. "Feat complete!"
"Operation Cleanup," Quint stated as they started to clean up or fix anything lying around.
"Wouldn't it just be easier to move?" Dirk wondered as Blarg's corpse was still in the backyard.
"No way!" Jack protested at Dirk.
"There are, like, hundreds of empty houses," June pointed out to him.
"And we can always build another treehouse if we really need to," May added in.
"You guys," Jack complained at them.
June walked up to the treehouse before noticing the ping pong table. "Huh? Oh, ping-pong! I love ping-pong."
Quint popped up next to her. "Who doesn't?" He held up a paddle and a ball.
They played with May to the side so that they could give her hits. Rover eventually grabbed the ball with his mouth and ran off with it. Jack just smiled with a shrug. "Hey, come back here."
June laughed as Jack ran off. "Rover's on our team!"
"Hey, no fair!" Dirk shouted as they all had fun together.
So, I guess it's not just me anymore. We're now a whole, post-apocalyptic family, destined to live happily ever after.
A monster stepped up to a hill, looking at the treehouse in the distance. He then looked at June's poster. "Humans..." He growled, dropping the poster to continue looking at the treehouse.
