A week after being suspended, Charlie was back to school, but she hadn't seen any traces of Ben at all in the hallways.
"Guess the rumor of him transferring was true," thought Charlie who was grabbing her books from her locker.
"Hey, Charlie," said a young African American girl in a wheelchair.
"Hey, Nat, it's great to see you again," said Charlie who instantly brightened up at seeing the other girl. She closed her door before heading down the hall with her while still talking.
"I know, we really need to exchange phone numbers so we can talk at least when we're out of school," said Nat with a chuckle.
"Does that mean you still want to be my friend even though… you know?" asked Charlie as she noticed a couple of girls looking at her before walking away.
"So, what if you're gay, you are still the same girl who offered to help me on my first day of school," said Nat.
"Besides, who says you are the only gay kid here?" she asked while moving her hair to reveal a bisexual Pride flag button on her shirt.
"How long have you been wearing that to school?" asked a shocked Charlie.
"Since my first day, I normally have my hair like this because it rubs the back of my chair otherwise and that gets so irritating over time," said Nat while fixing her hair back to like it had been.
"Hey Nat, do you have time after school?" asked Charlie after a minute of thinking.
"There is something I want to ask you," she said.
"I'm free, how about we go to that cake shop a block from here and talk there?" asked Nat.
"Sounds great," said Charlie with a smile. The two then split up at a fork in the fall, Charlie turning right while Nat went left.
