Authors Note: Please know this is my first fanfiction so any suggestions or pieces of criticism are welcome as I'm trying to polish this to the best of my ability. This story will take place in a third person point of view but the focus character for each section will sometimes alternate. Another side note is that I don't plan on scaling Pokémon's strength here in accordance to the games (gym leaders and other trainers won't be so weak). Anyway that's all for now and without further ado let's begin.

The lost item

The story begins after Nate arrives in Nimbasa City, journeying here after defeating Gym Leader Burgh in Castelia City. He goes to Nimbasa City to take on the next gym leader who unfortunately isn't present at the moment.*

"God, what's even the point anymore," he questions himself after sitting down on a bench. "I've acquired the third one. Just 5 more to go but, how much more difficult is it going to get?"

Nate sulks to himself and looks around before deciding to take a walk in the amusement park. As he starts walking he notices the large amount of couples spending time here. It starts becoming difficult to traverse.

"This is exactly why I don't like crowds," he thinks to himself before sighing and moving to an empty spot of the park. "What was I thinking of coming here?"

Nate starts to walk towards the exit but inadvertently kicks something on his way out, pushing it forward a bit.

Clack

Its an expensive model xtransceiver! He picks it up and starts examining it.

"Still pretty clean so it hasn't been here long," he thinks to himself. "No point in putting it back."

He stuffs it into his bag, not giving it a second thought. Nate sends out his Braviary and flies the short distance back to a Nimbasa City hotel. The rooms are surprisingly inexpensive for the night while still remaining a decent size, perfect for a trainer like him.

Thud

He throws his bag to the ground after washing up and climbs into bed. As usual he looks through his xtransceiver before the night is over.

"Hey! How is it going? Me and Hugh have tried calling you but you weren't answering. Just wanted to know if you were okay :)", read a text from Rosa.

Nate turns off his xtransceiver and questions wether to respond or not. He eventually does after laying down for a while.

"I'm fine," he simply says before laying the device down and going to sleep, ignoring the rumble signaling another text.

He wakes up early the next day. It's around 7:30 am, a usual time for him to get up. He hasn't even gotten out of bed when he hears a ringtone coming from his xtransceiver.

"Incoming call from Rosa," the screen reads.

He begrudgingly answers.

"Finallyyyyy you answer. Why have you been ignoring our calls?" she asks in a surprisingly energetic mood. "Yeah bro, what have you been up to?"

He recognizes both of his friends voices on the other side of the video call. They're both wearing pajamas, showing that they just woke up as well.

"Just the same as always," he says in a sluggish manner.

"Uhh, that's good to know," Hugh awkwardly says before handing it back to Rosa.

"Is that all you two wanted?"

"Oh actually there is something else. She's not here right now but your mom wanted to talk to you. You haven't been answering her calls either," Rosa says in a concerned tone.

"Is that so?" Nate asks in an exaggerated tone, sighing to himself quietly. "You know I don't want to talk to her right now."

"I- understand. She really does seem sincere though. Would you at least consider it sometime? She's gotten better you know."

"I don't miss the smell of liquor."

A silence arises after this. Neither Rosa nor Nate were saying anything.

"sigh We have to go now. Just try to stay in touch more. I promise you we'll be back traveling with you soon," Rosa says calmly.

"Take care bro!" Hugh says in the background.

Thud

Nate sits on the side of the bed, sighing to himself after that awkward call he just had. He starts getting ready to go outside once again. The Nimbasa city gym leader Elesa hasn't been available to challenge lately, presumably for fashion shows. In the meantime Nate has been fighting trainers as means to get money as well as pass time.

"Us three used to travel together. Our shared dream was to obtain all 8 gym badges and challenge the Pokémon league. After we've obtained our third badge they suddenly wanted to visit our hometown for some reason. I didn't," Nate thinks to himself while getting all his stuff ready. "And to think that wasn't even the worst of it. I've held feelings towards Rosa for a while and eventually confessed to her. She reciprocated the same feelings, but to Hugh instead. I'm over it but now they aren't even here."

He sighs once more, leaving the room and eventually the hotel. Nate reaches into his bag to pull out a pokeball, summoning Braviary. As soon as he gets on another rumble is heard.

"God, what could it be now?" He says out loud with frustration.

He rummages into his bag and finds the rumbling xtransceiver, pulling it out of the bag. To his surprise though, it wasn't his own. Someone was calling the lost xtransceiver. Unlike his call with Rosa which was a video call, this one was only audio.

He answers and the call is silent for a few moments. Eventually the person on the other side says something.

"H-hello," the voice exclaimed.

The first thing Nate notices from the voice is that the caller was a girl with a soft voice. She sounded nervous while speaking.

"H-hi," Nate said nervously as well. "I'm guessing you're looking for the xtransceiver?"

"Y-yes, I lost it recently in Nimbasa. Is everything okay with it?" Said the voice.

"Yeah no worries. I've been holding on to it, it's fine," said Nate kindly.

"Oh thank goodness," replied the soft voice. "T-thank you for this. I was so worried."

"Don't mention it. My name's Nate by the way"

"Oh right, I haven't told you mine either. My name is Na-Yancy."

"When do you want to meet up to get your xtransceiver?"

"Oh well umm, would you be free tomorrow? It's the only time I'm available? You're still in Nimbasa right?" she says in the same timid manner.

"Don't worry, anytime works for me. Will the amusement park be okay with you?"

"Yeah, that's perfect actually. Anyway I have to go, I'm working right now. I'll see you tomorrow Nate," She says in a more calm manner than earlier. "I'm sorry about this being audio only too. I'm using an older model xtransceiver."

"Don't worry about that, it's fine," he reassures her. "Take care Yancy."

She hangs up.

"Oh my gosh, I almost said my other name," She says to herself quietly.

Yancy puts her xtransceiver down and thinks of the call she just had.

"Nate. I have to meet up with him tomorrow now," she thinks to herself before sighing with relief. "A good excuse for a break from all of this."

"Nancy!," someone calls out to her, "You're up in an hour so get ready"

"sigh I'm going."

Yancy reluctantly gets up and starts walking to where she was just called.

"Here we go again," she thinks to herself before entering a room filled with a group of make up artists, all of them waiting inside with a serious manner.
