Hailey woke up in the morning with a small stomach ache but just brushed it off as having eaten too much at the buffet last night. Jay walked out of the bathroom right as Hailey got into the bathroom
"Hey, babe ready to go on our run," Jay asked.
"Yeah I just have to change and fill up my water bottle" Hailey answered back.
"Ok, I have to fill up my water so I'll just fill yours up," Jay replied.
Hailey and Jay went on a 5-mile run and when they got back Hailey's stomach felt worse so she went to sit down on the couch for a second.
"Hey Hails you ok"? Jay asked when he saw her curl up on the couch.
"Yeah I just ate a little too much last night and my stomach isn't too happy with me hopefully it'll pass soon," Hailey said
"Oh, I'm sorry babe how about we have toast for breakfast since it's easy on the stomach" jay suggested as he was walking towards the kitchen.
"Yeah I would that thank you, Hailey, said as she got up to join Jay in the kitchen.
They made and ate their toast and since they had the day off for the first time in 2 months they decided to watch movies. They decided to watch some lifetime movies and enjoyed pointing out all of the inaccuracies. Halfway through the movie, Hailey's stomach ache got worse. She groaned in pain and shifted on the couch. Jay noticed right away and got concerned.
"Hail, are you ok? What's wrong?" He asked if he was worried.
"My stomachache is getting worse I don't know I hope I'm not getting sick," Hailey said
I'll be right back babe" Jay told her as he got up from the couch
He went into their room to grab some supplies. He grabbed tums, a thermometer, a corn heating pack, and Advil in case she had a fever, he then went to the kitchen and put the hot pack in the microwave and filled up a glass with ice water. Once the heating pack was done he walked back over to the couch.
"Here put this on your stomach I wanna take your temperature real quick you don't look feverish but I want to double check jay told her"
" ok thanks babe love you" Hailey replied.
Jay took her temperature and much to their relief it was normal.
Here babe take these should help" he said handing her 2 tums
They went back to watching movies and he pulled her into his lap.
About an hour later Hailey shot up and ran to the bathroom and started to throw up. Jay ran after her and held her hair back while whispering to her
Ssh your ok it's ok to get it all out in here you're not alone babe I'm here for all of it"
She finished throwing up and Jay got 2 washcloths and used one to wipe off her face and held the other one to the back of her neck while rubbing her back soothingly.
Hailey whimpered at the discomfort and pain in her stomach.
Ssh your ok babe stay here I'm gonna get more medicine" jay said running out of the bathroom towards the living room. He quickly grabbed the tums, Advil, and the thermometer and ran back to the bathroom. Hailey was still right where he left her.
Here babe takes more of these I want to take your temperature again you feel a bit warm now he sighed handing Hailey the tums.
He took her temperature and it was 100.5
"You have a low-grade fever babe here take these" jay told her handing her 2 Advil.
She took the meds and slid and leaned against the bathtub.
How's your stomach babe" jay asked
" hurts" Hailey cried
I'm sorry babe let's get back in bed he said as he scooped her up and carried her into their bedroom and set her on their bed.
"Get comfy ill to be right back I'm going to reheat the hot pack he told her
He came back a couple of minutes later, slipped the hot pack under her shirt, pulled her into his lap, and began to rub her back.
"What do you want to watch babe," jay asked as she turned on the tv
" I'm not sure, let's see what's on," she answered.
Hailey scrolled through the guide until she saw that friends were having a rerun marathon
"Wanna watch friends babe?" she asked
I would love to, Jay replied, kissing her head.
They got through half an episode before Hailey ran to the bathroom and started throwing up again. Jay ran after her, held her hair back, and comforted her. Once she was finished he repeated the process of wiping her face off, holding a cool washcloth to the back of her neck and taking her temperature. It was 101.7 this time
" your fever went up a little hails but you can't have anything for a couple of hours"
"Uggh" Hailey groaned
I know babe I know I'm sorry jay replied soothingly.
Jay lifted her up and took her back to the room and Hailey fell asleep curled against him
Hailey slept for 2 hours before running to the bathroom and throwing up again. Jay comforted her the entire time and took her temperature once she finished
"Crap 104 it went up a lot. Thankfully you can take some Tylenol now,'' Jay said as he got the medicine and wet a couple of washcloths. He grabbed a towel and slid it under her head as a makeshift pillow.
" We need to get your fever down, hails,'' Jay said as he put the washcloths on her forehead and wrists. Hailey began to shiver and was extremely uncomfortable. Jay noticed this right away.
I know babe sorry we need to get your fever down, ' Jay told her while grabbing her hand and rubbing his finger across the back of it.
Hailey threw up 30 minutes later but this time it was blood. Hailey began to panic
" Shoot, we need to get you to med," Jay told her as he picked her up.
He grabbed his keys and go her bucked into the truck and called will on the way to med
J hey we're on our way to med right now Hailey woke up this morning and threw up a couple of times but just threw up blood and has a 104 fever
W crap ok how far out are you?
J about 5 minutes
W ok pull up by the doors where getting a room ready I'll be at the doors
When they got to med they both helped get Hailey onto the gurney.
" owww it hurts Hailey cried
Shh it's ok squeeze my hand babe" jay said
Here give me the keys I'll park then meet you inside will told his younger brother
Once they got Hailey inside Maggie got her hooked up to an IV and pushed Zofran. Natalie walked in and asked what happened Jay told her because Hailey was in too much pain to answer.
Ok hon I'm going to take your vitals and palpate your abdomen
Hailey whimpered and squeezed jays hand
Ok, your vitals are good. I'm going to palpate your abdomen now. I'm sorry if I cause any pain, Natalie told her. When she pushed on the lower right side of her stomach. This caused Hailey to cry out in pain and squeeze Jay's hand hard.
Ssh ssh you're ok you're safe you're in good hands.
Hailey, you have appendicitis. We need to get you into surgery. It's a simple laparoscopic procedure that shouldn't take long. It's about to burst. We need to get you up the right way Natalie told her. Hailey began to cry and squeeze jays hand tighter
Ssh your ok babe you're going to be ok I'll be here when you get out he said kissing her.
Will was able to get the rest of the day off and sat in the waiting room with jay. They didn't say much, just sat next to each other until Natalie walked out. "She did great we got to it just in time she's going to be ok she'll be in some pain but we can give her meds for that you can go see here now," she told the worried brothers
They went up to her room and Hailey cried out for Jay as soon as he entered. Jay immediately ran to her side, kissed her head, and grabbed her hand.
How are you feeling babe" jay asked
Hurts" she replied
" I'm going to give you something for the pain, are you still nauseous?" she asked injecting morphine into her IV
Hailey nodded and Jay squeezed her hand.
" ok, I'm going to give you some more Zofran. It should help.
Hailey fell asleep soon after holding Jay's hand. Will woke her up a couple of hours later. Hey, you need to eat, we need to make sure you can keep down food, if you can keep down some crackers, apple sauce, and jello you'll be discharged first thing tomorrow morning. Thankfully Hailey was able to keep the food down and fell asleep soon after still holding onto Jay's hand. unfortunately, she woke up an hour later from a nightmare
"Ssh your ok your safe no one is going to hurt you it's okay ssh just breathe your safe with me" jay soothed as he gently lifted Hailey up and slid into the bed so he could hold her. Hailey's heart rate spiked when she woke up from her nightmare so will and Natalie ran in
"What happened," they asked as they saw Hailey crying and clinging onto jay
She had a nightmare. I've got her. Hopefully, she'll fall back asleep soon. Just then Natalie ager went off and she had to leave. Will sat down in the chair next to Jay and squeezed his shoulder. All 3 of them fell asleep until Natalie woke them up at 6 to check over Hailey and start the discharge paperwork and send antibiotics, pain meds, and Zofran to the pharmacy. They got discharged and got home at 8 am. Jay remembered he had forgotten to call Voight so once Hailey fell asleep he stepped into the hall and called him.

J hey sarge I meant to call you earlier but things got hectic Hailey and I won't be in she got appendicitis and had to spend the night at med yesterday. She'll be out for a week then on desk duty for 2 to 3 weeks depending on how she feels. Natalie should be sending both you and platt a note
V ok=h ok tell Hailey I hope she feels better. It's a paperwork week so you can take the week to take care of her. Let me know if you need anything. I hope she feels better soon.

Jay went back into their room and fell back asleep for a couple of hours. He woke up to Hailey crying.
" hey babe are you in pain?" he asked worriedly,
Yeah and I'm nauseous again, Hailey replied.
Ok, I'll see if you can pick up your prescriptions. I don't want you to be alone right now and the car is probably not the best idea."
Will agreed to pick up her meds and headed over to their house.
" How are you feeling?" he asked when he got there
"Nauseous and in pain" Hailey replied squeezing Jay's hand again
"I'm sorry that's normal the meds should help," he said sliding the pills towards Hailey.
" you need to eat a little something with these though," Will told her.
''There are some saltines in the pantry," Jay said, sensing what he was about to ask.
Hailey ate some crackers and took her meds and fell back asleep for a couple of hours. When she woke up she cuddled up to Jay and they watched movies till dinnertime. Just as Jay was about to ask Hailey what she wanted for dinner, his phone rang. It was Trudy.
J hey sarge
T hey I heard about Hailey would it be cool if I brought over Panera for you guys for dinner?" she asked
Hailey overheard heard this and her eyes lit up
J yes we would love that thank you.
Trust got there 45 minutes later with soups
"Hey kiddo how are you feeling," she asked, squeezing her shoulder.
"Like I've been hit by a bus" Hailey replied
"I'm sorry kid," Trudy told her while gently hugging her
"Here's your med babe," Jay said, handing her the meds.
They all talked and ate their soup then watched movies till 11 pm. Trudy said goodbye to them both and headed home and they went to bed. The next morning Hailey felt a lot better. She was back on desk duty a week later and everyone hugged her and was thrilled to see her. She was back in the field catching criminals 2 weeks after that
