Jay was in court so Hailey was driving alone in her car on the way to a crime scene. She was on her way back from talking to a victim so she was alone and the team wasn't behind her. She pulled up to a red light when out of nowhere she got rear-ended hard. Thankfully she was buckled but both her car and body flew forward. She slammed her chest into the wheel and her neck hurt. She grabbed her radio and called it in.

"5021-henry emergency I just got rear-ended I'm at Lower Wacker and Columbus," Hailey said into her radio

She then proceeded to get out of her car to check on the person that crashed into her, as she got out, dispatch asked her if she was ok.

" Detective, are you ok? Do you need an ambulance? Are you hurt?"

" No I'm not hurt just sore, the other driver is ok too I just need backup"

Just then Voight and the rest of the team got to the intersection. Voight and Vanessa ran up to Hailey while the others ran up to the driver.

" Are you ok with what happened?" voight asked.

"I'm ok that idiot was texting and driving, going over the speed limit, and smashed right into me he didn't even know the light was red" Hailey answered.

" ok, I called jay. I heard you say you were sore on the radio. what's wrong?" voight asked concerned

"My chest hit the wheel and my neck is sore but I'm fine it's just some bruises and whiplash I didn't hit the wheel too hard" Hailey answered

Just then jay got there and hugged her.

"Are you ok babe what happened he asked".

"I'm ok just sore

The other driver was texting and driving and smashed into me". Hailey replied.

" oh thank god I was so scared when I got that call I thought the worst." jay said shakily.

" I'm ok babe I love you," Hailey said.

"Do you need to go to med what hurts?" Jay asked, looking her over.

" No I think I'm good just sore, I just need ice and Advil" Hailey replied.

"Ok good let me know if your pain gets any worse.

When Adam ran the other driver's name he had some warrants so they arrested him.

Adam and jay have him an earful when they got him into the interrogation room.

" WHAT WERE YOU THINKING YOU COULD'VE KILLED HER SHE'S A DETECTIVE YOU KNOW IF YOU WOULD'VE KILLED OR INJURED HER YOU WOULD'VE BEEN FACING CAPITAL CHARGES. WHAT WAS SO IMPORTANT THAT IT COULDN'T HAVE WAITED for 30 SECONDS '' Adam and Jay both yelled.

The driver stayed silent and didn't answer.

They got the guy shipped off to the county and headed back up to the bullpen. Hailey stood up to use the bathroom and felt more pain than before. Jay noticed this and walked up to her with a concerned look.

"Hey, are you ok? You look like you are in pain ''Jay asked concerned.

"My neck and chest feel worse" Hailey replied.

"Ok let's go to med and have Will look you over just to make sure nothing seriously wrong" jay told her.

"Ok," Hailey replied, knowing she wasn't going to win this argument.

Jay told Voight they were heading to med and he sent everyone home early because it was just a paperwork day he then texted Will on the way. When Hailey and Jay got there Will was waiting in the parking lot for them. He asked Hailey what happened and she told him the story. Her vitals were all normal.

"Ok, can you change into a gown so I can check your ribs?" Will asked.

"Sure' she replied.

Once she changed into the gown Will determined that she didn't have any broken or cracked ribs; they were just mildly bruised.

" ok, no broken or cracked ribs, just some bruising. Use ice and Advil for that. When you got hit your whole body flew forward right?" Will asked.

"Yeah" Hailey replied.

" ok it seems like whiplash I just want to feel the back of your neck to be sure," Will said.

"Ok" Hailey replied.

Will felt the back of her neck and she winced when he hit the sorest spot.

" Sorry Hails, you have moderate whiplash. Take Advil to use icy heat and use ice for the first 72 hours if it's still hurting after that use heat." I would recommend you take at least 3 days off to recover whiplash can be pretty painful" Will informed her.

"Ugh ok," Hailey said, annoyed at the situation.

"I'm sorry babe," Jay said, hugging her.

"I just wish that guy could've waited 30 seconds before sending that text," Hailey said.

"Yeah me too," Jay replied.

They went home and watched movies and ordered a pizza. They got ready for bed around 11 pm and jay came in with the icy hot Advil and 2 ice packs.

" Here take these and slip the ice on your ribs and see if you can lay on your stomach so I can put the icy hot on your neck".

Hailey did as she was told and was able to comfortably lay on her stomach with the ice.

"Ok, I'm going to massage this into your neck now let me know if I hurt you" jay told her.

Jay began to massage the icy hot into her neck but quickly pulled his hands away when he felt her flinch.

"Sorry did that hurt," he asked her.

"Yeah, but it was starting to help" Hailey replied.

"Ok do you want me to keep going," Jay asked.

"Yes please," Hailey responded.

Hailey fell asleep mid-massage and once j was finished he crawled into bed with her and wrapped his arms around her. The next morning she woke up with a lot of neck pain. Jay got her some Advil and gave her another massage with the icy hot and used the ice pack between massages. He knew from personal experience that the second day is always the worst with these types of things.

By the third day, Hailey was beginning to feel better. They continued with the massages and watching movies all day until day 5 when Hailey felt well enough to go back. She had to take it easy for a while and got nightly massages from jay but 3 weeks later she was back to normal.

This one is kind of weird it sounded much better in my head. This was based on my whiplash experience from an accident I was in in 2020. Thankfully myself and everyone else involved in the crash are ok and have no long-term effects.
