This is based off of the 6x02 crossover because upstead wasn't a thing then and this is how I would've liked it to go down if they were
Hailey was sitting at home waiting for Jay to get home when her phone began to ring. She saw that it was Sylvie and she answered it confused.
H hello?
S ''Hey hailey jay's dad was in an apartment fire and jay is here with him. He has bad smoke inhalation, jay is ok physically but not mentally he's really scared".
H "ok thank you 'i'll be there asap I'll see you soon," she said running to grab her shoes and keys.
When she got to me she saw Will and Jay in the waiting room and saw both Will and Jay sitting there in the waiting room with 51. He hugged both of them and sat down next to Jay and grabbed his hand and started rubbing circles on the back of it. A couple of minutes later Dr.abrams came out with a grim look on his face. He called Jay and went into the past room. Hailey had a bad feeling about this. Jay came out a couple of minutes later looking distraught. Hailey immediately walked up to him and put her hands on his shoulder.
"Hey, are you ok? What's wrong? What happened?" Hailey asked.
"My dad, he's brain dead," he said, holding back tears.
"Oh my god jay I'm so sorry c'mere," Hailey said as she pulled him into a hug and began to rub his back.
She felt him start to cry into her shirt
"Ssh ssh I'm so sorry she said soothingly
"It was all my fault," Jay cried out, beginning to hyperventilate.
" nNo jay none of this was your fault just breathe ssh" she soothed trying to calm him down.
April saw this and led them to a private room. Once they got in the room Jay began to have a full-blown panic attack.
Ssh jay breathe just breathe for me you're ok it's ok to squeeze my hand and follow my breathing in 1,2,3,4 out 1,2,3,4 slow down jay slow down and breathe your ok ssh." Hailey soothed while rubbing his back she repeated this until he calmed down.
"Hey you ok?" she asked, pulling him into a hug.
" No its all my fault" jay said holding back tears again.
"No jay it's not your fault none of this is your fault why do you think it's your fault?" Hailey asked still squeezing his hand and rubbing his back.
"Because I put him there I'm the one who found him that apartment" jay replied
" No jay you couldn't have known none of this is your fault ok?"Hailey told him
" Ok" jay replied
April knocked at the door a couple of seconds later holding a bottle of water. She walked in and handed it to Hailey.
" Here, drink some of this babe," she told him as she held the water bottle up to his lips because he was shaking too much to hold it steady. Jay began to chug the water.
" Slow sips jay slow sips," she told him.
He drank about half of the water bottle before he stopped.
"I need to find will need to be with my dad" jay said.
" Ok c'mon I'll help you find Will," Hailey said, grabbing his hand and leading him out of the room.
Hailey found will in the waiting room and she hugged Jay before he went over to him
" Hey I'll be waiting here for you when your ready to go home I love you," she said hugging him
"Thanks love you too" he replied
6 hours later Jay and Will walked out with tears in their eyes.
Hailey went and hugged them both
"I'm so sorry Jay, c'mon let's get you home,'' she said, leading him out of the room towards the parking lot.
She got him in the car and buckled since he was shaking too badly to do it himself. He stared out the window and didn't say anything the entire way home. When they got home Hailey went to his side of the car and helped him out. She lead him into the house and into their bedroom. He still had said nothing.
" Do you think you can change into your pajamas?" she asked.
"Yeah" he whispered .
Hailey went into the kitchen and got some water. She came back into the room to see him sitting on the bed crying. Her heart broke at the site. She walked over to the bed and pulled him into a hug, rubbed his back, and held him for 20 minutes until he stopped crying and pulled away.
" Hey, how are you feeling physically, do you need anything?" Hailey asked.
" I'm nauseous and have a headache" jay replied as he laid down.
" ok ill be right back," Hailey said leaving their room she quickly got Advil and tums.
She walked back into their room and knelt down in front of him.
" Here take these, it'll help," she said, handing him the meds.
He took the meds but only took a small sip of his water to get the Advil down.
"Hey, can you try to drink at least half of that for me?" Hailey asked.
He drank a little over half of the water and put it back on their nightstand.
" Good let's try and go to sleep," Hailey said.
She went and changed into her pajamas and turned off the lights and crawled into bed with him and pulled him into her chest and held him. She woke up a couple of hours later and he was thrashing around and whimpering.
" Hey jay wake up your safe you're ok you're in our bed in Chicago," she said as she went to put her hand on his shoulder. As soon as she touched him he jumped across the bed and indeed threw himself off the bed. Jay woke up in a startle on the floor with Hailey standing over him.
" Hailey I'm so sorry I'm sorry did I hurt you" he asked beginning to panic.
" no ssh you didn't hurt me I trust you you didn't even come close to hitting me. I'm more worried about you hurting yourself. You just launched yourself off the bed" she explained kneeling to him.
"C'mon let's get you back into bed," hailey said.
She got him back to their bed and propped him up with some pillows.
"I want to check you over real quick to make sure you are not hurt. You hit the floor really hard," Hailey told him.
She gently lifted up his shirt and examined his back and side and felt the back of his head, thankful that he wasn't injured.
" ok let's get you laying back down," she said as she helped him to lay down.
" If I have another nightmare don't wake me up I don't want to hurt you," he told her.
" No, Jay, you're not going to hurt me. I trust you. I'd much rather have to catch your wrist rather than have you launch yourself off the bed and hurt yourself and I don't want you to suffer through them alone." Hailey replied.
Jay tossed and turned all night and barely still got any sleep. He woke up at 6 am the next morning and went into the kitchen and made himself a cup of coffee. He still felt awful. He was nauseous and had a pounding headache. Hailey walked in a c couple of minutes later and hugged him.
" Hey how are you feeling babe," she asked.
" I'm fine" he replied.
" No you not it's ok not to be ok talk to me," she told him.
" Fine my head is pounding and I'm nauseous" he replied
" I'm sorry babe" Hailey replied walking back into their room to grab the med.
" Take this" she said handing him some Advil and tums
Jay took the meds and went and sat down on the couch and turned on the tv at a low volume. He turned on some young Sheldon. Hailey sat down on the couch next to him, wrapped him in a blanket, and held his hand. About an hour after watching young Sheldon Hailey wanted jay to eat since he hadn't eaten since lunch the previous day.
" Hey I know you're nauseous but you need to eat something you haven't eaten since lunch yesterday plus it might help your nausea" Hailey told him.
"I'll make myself some eggs' jay said starting to stand up.
" No jay I'll make them you've been through a lot and barely slept last night just stay here," she said
" Ok thanks babe' jay said
" Of course, how many eggs do you want?" she asked.
" 2 please" jay replied.
Hailey made his eggs and threw a waffle in the toaster for herself. When everything was done she grabbed their food and went over to the couch. They ate and watched tv. They watched tv for 2 hours later before they got called in to hopefully find the guy who set the apartment on fire. They were able to track down one of the men they suspected was responsible and got him into the interrogation room but he didn't say anything. They were able to track down the second suspect when they went to arrest him and search his house; he wasn't there. When they walked further into his house lights came on out of nowhere.
" Whoa everybody stop. Do not key your radios" Voight told them all.
They didn't know if the apartment was rigged with bombs so they quickly evacuated and called the bomb squad. Thankfully, there were no explosives or chemicals found.
A couple of hours later after investigating and getting people to talk they finally had the guy who they suspected was also responsible. Jay called Kelly for help wanting to deal with this guy himself. This was the guy that had killed his father.
Once Kelly got there he borrowed his radio and listened for dispatch to call fire or ambulance out to him. Eventually, they did but it was a standoff call. The guy fit the description and Jay knew it was him. Kelly drove them to the scene. He got a police radio and heard intelligence being called out. He then saw the dude and began to run after him. He chased him into the tunnel when the suspect began to fire shots at him. He hit him twice but thankfully he was wearing his bulletproof vest. He was able to shoot the guy before collapsing onto the floor and calling for backup. Hailey and Adam came running into the tunnel and saw them both on the floor.
"That's jay that's jay" Adam yelled and panicked as she saw him lying on the floor bleeding and not moving.
5021-henry officer down I repeat officer down lower wacker and Columbus get us an ambulance.
She ran up to him and immediately knelt down next to him trying to see the damage.
"Jay, you okay?" Hailey panicked as she tried to rip his shirt open to see if any had gone through.
Much to her relief, it didn't go through.
Jay was confused as to what was happening "what's going on?" he asked.
" Jay, breathe it, it didn't go through your ok," she told him.
She then grabbed his hand and squeezed it tight.
The first bullet was a graze wound and the second was a through and through. He was going to have some nasty bruising.
Hailey went to check on him in the back of the ambulance after Voight got done yelling at him.
Hailey took him to med to get looked at and learned about his needle phobia. He had to get stitches and started freaking out over the numbing shot. Hailey noticed this and turned and held his head away with one hand while holding his hand with her other one.
"Ssh you're ok you're safe I'm here don't think about it focus on me squeeze my hand," Hailey said soothingly. Jay got his stitches and a tetanus shot done. Hailey sat with him and comforted him the whole time. He did great.
" good job babe you did great" Hailey told him kissing his head
"Thanks," he replied.
"Ok I know this isn't a good time but we need to go to dad's apartment and get his stuff, you can go home Hailey I'll bring him to your place when we're done. For his care, you need to clean the 2 cuts with peroxide twice daily for a week. For the one with stitches clean around it with a q tip and don't get the stitches wet for the graze clean it like you would any normal cut. I am sending over some bruise cream to help with the bruising rub that into his bruises twice a day until they are faded." Will told them.
Hailey picked up the cream from the pharmacy on the way home and watched tv until jay got home.
When Jay got home he looked distraught.
"What's the wrong way? What happened?" Hailey asked concerned.
"I thought my dad was disappointed in me all these years, he didn't want me to go into the military, and he also didn't want me to go into the police force. He didn't even come to my academy graduation. He was proud of me. I found these at his apartment. Jay sobbed showing her pictures of him in his military uniform, a picture of him at academy graduation, and a piece of a newspaper article of him saving a 3-year-old.
" Of course, he's proud of you jay. You're something to be proud of, you're an amazing person who has done a lot of amazing things, '"Hailey told him while pulling him into a hug.
They ate dinner and then Hailey put a waterproof bandage over his stitches and helped him shower. Once they were done showering she had him sit on the toilet so she could clean and bandage his wounds.
" Sit on the toilet so I can get you taken care of," Hailey told him while grabbing the supplies.
" Ok this is gonna sting," Hailey said as she was pouring peroxide onto a cloth to clean his graze wound.
Jay hissed in pain as Hailey cleaned his wounds.
"I know I know I'm sorry babe almost done." she soothed
She then rubbed the cream into his bruises and apologized when he groaned in pain.
Jay had multiple nightmares that night and barely slept. The next morning was his dad's funeral. Hailey sat with him holding his hand the whole time. The other members of intelligence came but stayed in the back.
Once the funeral was overall intelligence hugged him.
They both headed home and fell asleep for a few hours then ordered pizza for dinner.
It took Jay 3 weeks to be able to sleep through the night without nightmares. Hailey helped him every step of the way. 6 months later he was doing better than ever and it was all because of Hailey's unconditional support.
