Adeline Gilbert was the long lost twin sister to Elena Gilbert. Elena was the doppelganger, but Adeline wasn't. Adeline was taken away from Mystic Falls at a young age and didn't know of her twin sister until after her eighteenth birthday.

Adeline had received a letter from her father. He told her she had a twin and what she was and that she needed her.

So, Adeline left Europe and traveled all the way to Mystic Falls, Virginia to go help her long lost twin sister.

I arrived later in the afternoon at what I was told, in my late dad's letter, was the Salvatore Boarding House. I was nervous to meet my sister. I was told to make sure to prove I'm human and not Katherine, another doppelganger. Elena and I weren't identical, but we were almost that way in looks.

I pulled my car into the driveway, got out, and went to knock on the door. An attractive man with dark longer but short hair and blue eyes met me at the door with an alarmed and confused look on his face.

"Before you say anything," I rushed out, "I'm not a doppelganger. I'm Elena's twin. Our father sent me a letter telling me Elena needed my help. I came here as soon as I could from the looks of it you're Damon Salvatore. Let me introduce myself. I'm Adeline, Adeline Gilbert.

"What?!" Damon said in shock.

"Look I'm just as shocked as you are, but I believe in protecting family. Elena's my sister, and I'd do anything to protect her."

"Come in," Damon said as he eyed me cautiously.

"Look being in a town with hidden vampires, werewolves, and witches makes me a bit uncomfortable too, you'll get used to my presence."

"Come with me," Damon said as he led me through the boarding house and to the living room.

"Who is it?" a guy I knew had to be Stefan Salvatore said, his back turned to us.

"It just keeps getting more weird," Damon said as Stefan turned around and observed me with shock and awe.

"Adeline Gilbert, Elena's long lost non doppelganger twin sister. You can call me Addie too if you'd like," I said.

"How in the hell?" Stefan muttered.

"Look dad kept it from me until now after he died and it took a while to track me down. I had this," I said as I held my hand up revealing an amethyst stone antique ring on my finger.

"Protects me from location spells among other things," I said to the Salvatores.

"This is mind boggling," Stefan said.

"Yes," I nodded, "I know."

"We may actually use your help tonight. The originals are throwing a ball and Elena was invited, and she's going to sneak there no matter what we do or say."

"Count me in," I grinned. "I'm highly skilled in MMA among other things. I could kick someone's ass if needed."

"I think I"m actually going to like having you around Adeline," Damon said with a smirk.

"Good, cause you're not getting rid of me," I smiled back. "Now if this ball is tonight, I think I should get ready."

"Do you need a dress?" Stefan asked.

"Nope, got one in my luggage. Was packed in by a witch," I shrugged. "Will one of you be kind enough to show me to a room?"

"Of course," Damon nodded and helped me lug my luggage up to my room.

I got to work doing my makeup. Rose golds and nude shades. My hair I put up in a braided crown with rose gold strands in my hair. Then, I fished out my rose gold gown. The top was a somewhat see through corset top with a big flowing glittering lace ballgown skirt.

I looked in the mirror and was perfecting my makeup when Damon knocked and asked to come in.

"Wow," Damon said as he walked in.

"I like to look good," I said to him with another shrug. "Nice suit by the way."

"Thanks, are you ready?" he asked.

"I do think so," I nodded.

Damon and I went downstairs to find Stefan waiting in a suit himself. The Salvatores were a handsome bunch. I can see why Elena, as told in dad's letter, was in love with them.

The guys took Damon's car and I followed close behind in mine. I took in the sighs, driving through town and to the Mikaelson mansion where the original vampires lived.

The Salvatores told me to wait for their text message before I entered. They were going to break me to Elena instead of me just showing up and shocking her and everyone else. So, I waited in my car, then got the text. I walked in and was looked at with shock and awe. I found the Salvatores and my sister. Elena's mouth was agape.

"Hello Elena, I'm your sister Adeline, you can call me that or Addie. I hope these guys got yo up to speed.

"Yes," Elena nodded.

"Excellent," I trilled. "So, how are we going to handle this?"

"You wait on our signal," Damon said.

"If you say so," I shrugged and grabbed da drink. "Let me know if you need me."

I found myself wandering around the ball introducing myself to everyone. That's when I was met by a handsome man with short brown hair and brown eyes.

"I'm Elijah Mikaelson, and if I do hear right, you're Elena's long lost twin sister." he said.

"Adeline," I said to him with a cautious nod.

"Beautiful name for an even more beautiful girl."

At this, I blushed, "Thanks."

"Come, have a chat," he said as he held out for me to grab.

I was cautious, but I had a feeling Elijah would get me alone no matter what the circumstances. So, I nodded and took his arm as he led me off to another more quiet room.

"So tell me Adeline, what really brings you to Mystic Falls?" he asked.

"My father sent me a letter before he died telling me of my twin sister and how she neede me. It just took a while to get to me due to a protection spell I wear. I came here as soon as I could."

"You're incredible," Elijah said to me in wonder. "You've stayed hidden all these years."

"Magic," I said with a shrug and held up my hand with the amethyst ring.

"Witches?" he asked.

"My dad wanted me protected. Though Elena and I aren't, technically, identical we, just about, look it. For some reason, he and my, also, late mother knew Elena an di should only meet when the tiem was right."

"Are you special as well?" he asked.

"If you're asking if I'm supernatural, then, yes, I am. I'm a witch. The ring just keeps my powers at bay." Then I stopped and slapped my hand over my mouth. "Why did I tell you that?"

"I compelled you darling," Elijah said.

"But dad said I couldn't as long as I...shit," I realized I had taken my charm bracelet off. It must've had something in it to protect me from compulsion.

"You must've taken off your vervain," Elijah chuckled, his cold face actually cracking a hint of a smile.'

"Must have," I said as I rolled my eyes at myself. Dad did say I should wear it at all times. I, accidentally, forgot.

"Don't fret darling," Elijah said to me, "As long as I'm around no ones going to compel you."

"How can I trust you?" I asked him suspiciously. "You're an original."

"I'm not like Niklaus, well you'd know him as Klaus," Elijah said to me. "I'm a man of my word. I"ll make sure you're safe. No matter what, at any cost.

"Are...are you attracted to me?" I asked doubtfully.

"You can feel it?" he asked me. Yep, even with the ring, I could feel it. And I was flattered. Elijah was gorgeous.

"I can," I nodded.

"There's something about you Adeline, you, like Elena, remind me of someone in my past, but you, you're different. Physically and basically every other way."

"You can call me Addie, by the way," I said to him.

"No, Adeline is beautiful, I'd much prefer to call you that."

I smiled, "Thank you Elijah."

"We should probably return to the ball," Elijah said to me.

"Probably so," I agreed.

When we returned to the ball, it was just getting started. Elijah asked to dance. I couldn't say no whether it was under compulsion or not.

As we danced, I found myself in Damon's arms for a second. "The hell? Why are you and Elijah Mikaelson looking at each other with goo-goo eyes and dancing together?"

"Elijah doesn't seem that bad," I said to him. "Plus he offered me protection."

"Not even in town for a full twenty four hours and she's already fallen for a Mikaelson," Damon said as he rolled his eyes.

"Hey, at least I"m not in love with my siblings signifigant other," I said to him with a bit of an evil smirk.

"You little," Damon said right before I was back in Elijah's arms.

"Need a hand darling?" Elijah asked me.

"It's fine," I assured him, "Just letting Damon know I'm not an idiot."

"You're fearless aren't you?" Elijah said to me.

"When you've lived a life like mine, lacking parents' loving presence and in person attention," I said to him.

"Did they try to buy your love?" he asked.

"Yes," I nodded, "and it worked when I was a child. Now?"

'Not so much," he said finishing my entence.

"Yes, but they're both gone now," I nodded, "Don't worry about me, though, it's just a part of my life.

"My father has spent his life hunting us down and my mother, well I'm not too sure about her," he said in my ear. "She has been dead for a thousand years, now she's back and I'm not sure why."

"I'm sorry to hear that," I said with a frown.

"Don't be darling, like you, I am fearless," he said to me as the dance ended.

Elijah and I parted ways for a while. Ester, his mom, proposed a toast. Then, later Elijah's younger brother Kol got in a scuffle with the Salvatores.

Before we left, I slipped Elijah my number in a note telling him to call me later if he wanted to meet up. I returned to the Boarding house with the Salvatores and Elena. I went up to my room and changed. Then, got a call from Elijah to meet him at the Mikaelson mansion. He told me he felt I'd be safer there than with the Salvatores.

I couldn't help myself, I snuck out, went to my car, and to the Mikaelsons. I left the Salvatores a note telling them I found somewhere else to stay that was safer for me, and to call if Elena needed my help.

I drove to Elijah with a clear head. Not a single doubt or worry. I trusted him, for reasons unbeknownst to me at the time, but I didn't care. The Salvatores will probably think I've either gone mental or turned to the dark side, but I wasn't worried about their opinions. I had hoped they saw I still cared about my sister.

Elijah was outside waiting on me. He smirked when he saw my car drive up.

"I was wondering if they'd stop you," he chuckled.

"I snuck out," I said with a giggle.

So rebellious," he grinned, "I love it."

"So are you going to invite me in or am I going to hae to go in without you?" I asked. Elijah chuckled again.

"At least she has manners," he murmured with a low chuckle.

"At least he does too," I whispered which made Elijah laugh.

"Come on dear, I'll show you where you can stay," Elijah said as he gently grabbed my wrist and pulled me along.

I was led to a room with a large bed and a window that overlooked a courtyard out back.

"Get settled darling," he said. "If you need anything, I'm next door.

"Thanks," I said with a smile as I tucked some stray hair behind my ear.

"Anytime love," Elijah said as he gently kissed my hand and rushed out of my room. Leaving me swooning.

I started unpacking and decided to put on an oversized T-shirt and a pair of matching cheer shorts. I took off all my makeup, and let my hair down. Then, lay down in bed and started to drift off to sleep. I didn't sleep long. I was awakened by a nightmare about me dying. I had them every once in a while. And when I did? I couldn't go back to sleep. I feared death. No, naturally, nightmares plagued me occasionally.

I got up quickly, left my room, and found myself at Elijah's door knocking.

"Are you okay?" he asked me. "Did someone try to hurt you?"

"No," I sniffed as I realized I was sobbing, "I had a nightmare."

"Come on, I'll protect you, come lay down," he said as he put a hand on the small of my back and ushered me over to his bed.

"Thank you Elijah," I said to him.

"It's the least I can do," he said. "Now, I'm going to compel you to rest. We'll meet again soon."

I fell asleep almost instantly with his compulsion. I found myself, whether in my dreams or real life on the cliffs of Santorini.

"This is a lot more pleasant now, isn't it?" he asked.

"It is," I smiled and nodded.

"You've been to Greece? It's very clear in your memories," I Elijah said from behind me.

"Yes," I smiled, "Such a beautiful place."

"The only beauty I'm noticing right now is yours Adeline."

Even now, I blushed.

"If you have anymore nightmares, you let me know, okay?" he said as he wrapped his arms around my waist.

"Okay," I nodded, "How am I ever going to repay you?"

"You don't," he said, "I do it because I'm selfish and want more time with you."

"Do you need blood?" I asked and turned to face him. At the very mention of it, his vamp face came out. "Take it," I said to him.

"Adeline, I couldn't besides you'd be walking around with fang marks to hide," he said.

"Not if you feed me some of yours," I said back daringly.

"Wake up," Elijah whispered. Suddenly I was awake back in Elijah's room. The sun was just now coming up outside, casting a light upon us in the dark.

"Do you really mean it?" he asked me.

"I do," I nodded, "I trust you. Not sure why, but I do."

"Would you like me to take from your neck or wrist?" he asked.

"Either way," I said to him.

"I promise I'll only take enough to sate my thirst," he assured me.

"Go ahead," I replied.

Elijah put his hand on one side of my neck and bared the other side by pushing my head over and bearing my neck. I gasped when his fangs went in my neck. But the pain didn't last.

Elijah did as he promised and only took enough. Then, he bit his wrist and offered it to me. Drinking his blood was euphoric. I saw Elijah's life flash before my eyes. I knew it was my magic. I opened up my mind to his and let him see mine.

Elijah was a very noble man. Sure, he was a vampire, and she he's killed, but he wasn't nowhere near as bad as Klaus. Elijah was the good, noble, gentleman. Elijah tried his bed to keep his siblings at bay thorugh the years. While he had a dark side, Elijah was good. He was also no one you wanted to piss off.

"You are truly incredible," Elijah said in awe as he detached me from his wrist and brought his lips to mine, igniting my body a fire.

"As are you," I smirked as I pulled away for air.

"You did that, didn't you?" he asked.

"I didn't mean to. It happened on its own through the rings magic."

"I've never met a witch like you,' he said to me, "You're different."

"My dad said the same thing," I told him.

"You wear the ring because he was afraid if your magic, but he's gone now, so why do you still wear it?"

"Fear?" I said to him. "Not fully sure what I"m capable of."

"You have nothing to fear Adeline," Elijah said. "Take off the ring."

"Maybe you're right," I said as I slid the ring off my finger.

Instantly things changed. I saw Elijah's aura. It was golden and beautiful. Though, there's a dark ring around it, I imagined that was because he was a vampire. I'd have to test that later.

"What does she see that I don't?" I heard Elijah say. Then, I realized I was hearing his thoughts. It has been so long, I had forgot I had this ability.

"I see your aura," I answered fearlessly. Not caring if he knew my secret ability.

"You can hear my thoughts?" he thought.

"I can," I nodded.

"You truly are incredible."

"Hearing that, someone who's always made to believe they're a freak of nature, makes me feel damn good."

"Screw your family, well your dad, he was afraid because he knew he couldn't control you. John Gilbert wasn't the best dad he tried to be. Sure, he sacrificed himself for your sister. Still he supressed you and your ablilites all these years. That, my dear, was wrong."

"It's crazy knowing that me, a Gilbert, is a supernatural being. We assume it came from Isobel's side. I've never called her mom even if she gave me life. John was more of a parent than she was. But, Elijah, he was sort of afraid of me. I didn't remember what I did as a child, I just know whatever it was, terrified him of me and my magic.

"You're a very powerful girl, Adeline," he said. "You should be feared even I can see that," Elijah said.

"I think he sometimes treated me as if he'd treat a monster, always tip toeing around me. He always got me everything I wanted."

"He was a coward," Elijah said. "Don't you ever see yourself in that light. You have an incredible gift."

"Thank you, Elijah," I said with a teary-eyed smile.

"Knowing everything about you now, I am sure, I am in love with you Adaline," Elijah said to me.

"I think I"m in love with you too," I said to him as our lips met again.

"I promise this, no one will ever harm you, ever, is that understood?" he said as he pulled me back and looked into my eyes.

"Yes," I nodded, "And I know you'll keep that promise because everyone who knows you knows you're the noble one.

"Don't be fooled by my nobility. I can still be a monster," Elijah warned.

"I, rightly, don't care," I said to him, a wicked grin on my face.

"Your little bit of recklessness is going to kill me," Elijah sighed in, what sounded like, mock annoyance.

"How so?" I asked.

"Because if you want to be, I want you to be mine," he replied.

"How could I say no?" I said as our lips met in a lust-filled frenzy.

Clothes fly off, next thing I know, I"m pinned to the bed and Elijah is on top of me making love to me. Praising me and telling me how perfect and beautiful I am.

We went at it for hours after the sun came up. I, honestly, wasn't even sure I'd be able to walk after this.

Elijah was a total gentleman. He helped me up and led me to his bathroom where we showered together. He took such good care of me. No one had ever been that sweet to me.

When we got out of the shower, we got dressed and wandered into the living room with Elijah's siblings. No one looked shocked to see me. I guess he told them about me last night.

"Well, well, well, a Gilbert falling for a Mikaelson," Klaus said with a smirk.

"You better be nice," Elijah said to his younger brother. "She's deadly."

"What is she?" Kol spoke up as he looked at me.

"Some kind of witch we've never seen before," Elijah said.

"My father feared me enough to make me wear a ring to suppress my magic and make me magically undetectable."

"He may have seen her as something bad," Elijah said, "She's not bad, only if you cross her."

"You better look out then, Elijah," Klaus chuckled.

"Elijah would never intentionally hurt me," I said to him. I can feel it.

"I'm taking my lady out for breakfast outside of Mystic Falls," Elijah said. "Call me if you need me."

"Okay, lovebirds," Klaus chuckled. At this, I made the glass he was drinking from shatter in his hand.

"Don't piss me off," I said with a sarcastic smile. Elijah chuckled and ushered me out the door to his car.
