A/N The Ice Kingdome is cold, Russia is cold. I think the two could have good language crossovers. In Russian mom is mama, that's why Penguin calls Dream mama, not because she has the vocabulary of a three-year-old. Enjoy.

Disclaimer: I do not own wings of fire. That's why I'm writing fanfiction, not novels.

The sun shined threw the icy walls, giving the room a winter glow. It was hard not to enjoy waking up like this, in a beautiful room filled with beautiful light. She enjoyed staying in the palace a lot more then the orphanitch.

She learned quickly that no one really liked her. Her naïve little brain thought they were just shy, but once North started tacking interest in her it was obvious. They called her a liar whenever she told them about what he'd done with her, that a prince would want nothing to do with someone like her. When North started frequently coming to the orphanitch to visit they finally believed her. Then they all wanted to be her friend. Silver was the worst, the fakest, she was glad she escaped that place.

She stood on the balcony looking out at the city below as the frosty wind nipped at her scales. She loved the Ice Kingdome, but she wasn't made to live in its cold temperatures.

A soft knock at the door brought her out of her wonder, and she turned to face it. She called to them, allowing entrance. She expected it to be the usual made who woke her up but found the prince standing there instead. She couldn't supress the smile that was forming at the sight of her friend, and quickly made her way over to him.

"North! I didn't expect you."

He smiled back at her nodding his head.

"I was bored, so I decided to see what you had planned today, you have a way with bringing excitement wherever you go."

Her smile grew with the complement. She did have plans that day, she wanted to meet up with her mother, and get to know her a bit. North hadn't met her yet, so it wouldn't hurt to let him tag along for a little while.

"I was thinking about going out with my mother if you wanted to join- "

"Mother?" He interrupted.

"Oh three moons, I completely forget to tell you! About a week ago someone claimed to be my mother! Isn't that exiting!"

The look on his face explained that he was not exited. In fact, he seemed rather disappointed.

"Penguin, your parents are dead," he said slowly.

"I know, that's what I thought too, be explained everything to me, and I have no reason to doubt her. Why would someone pretend to be my mother anyway?"

"Well, if you believe her I do too I guess. But why didn't you tell me earlier?"

"I told you, I forgot."

He seemed unhappy still, and she wanted to cheer him up some how.

"Want to go penguin sledding?"

OoOoOoOo

She flew down the hill, a penguin on each side. The bottom was getting close, and she began preparation to stop. A meter from the bottom she rolled to the side and started rolling down the hill. She rolled past the bottom and stopped, her sight spinning in circles.

She could hear the yells coming from the prince and tried to get out of the way, for North still couldn't stop properly. However, she dodged to slow, and the prince hit her hard. She fell onto the ground again as North slid under and past her. They slowly got to their feet and looked at each other.

"Sorry about that," he apologised.

"No need to apologise, you've done it three times now."

She giggled as the price's guilty face turned into embarrassment. He shouldn't be to hard on himself, after all they don't teach sledding in the palace.

"Penguin dear, is that you?"

She turned at the sound of the regal voice and found hr mother walking threw the Tiega. She ran over to the Nightwing and threw herself onto her.

"Mama, what ae you are doing here?"

"I was looking for you, You did love this place when you were younger." She smiled and her eyes drifted off into the distance, thinking of a memory. "I was hoping we could do something together today. I would love to get to know my daughter."

"Of course, we can!"

A throat cleared behind her, and she remembered her companion.

"Oh, Mama, this is North, he's my friend."

"Prince North," she bowed, "my apologies you highness, I did not recognise you."

"There is no need to bow, you are a guest in my Kingdome, not a citizen."

"You kindness comforts me Prince North, it is good to see royalty treats their people and alies with kindness."

"I'm glad to see that Penguin finally found the family she deserves."

Dreamcatcher smiled, but North didn't. There seemed to be tension between the two of them, but Penguin didn't know why. Before she could bring it up her mother spoke.

"Well, if your busy I can come back later-"

"No! I'm ready now," she interrupted turning to North, "see you later?"

"Yeah, of course."

OoOoOoOoOo

They toured around the Ice Kingdome, Penguin showing her Mother all her favorite places. She explained events that happened while she was away, and how everything had changed in the past four years.

It was nice to talk about life with someone who cared. She never had the chance to talk about her day with the orphans, and if she did they wouldn't listen. It was strange at first, but Dreamcatcher had an interest in her life, and she was happy to explain.

"So, Penguin, where did you grow up?"

Penguin looked around the streets of the seventh ring, before heading down an ally. On the other end an old building could be seen with a torn orange banner. It read Welcome to the ice dragonet orphan home for misfits. Her old home.

"You never got adopted?"

"Nope."

A silence clouded over them, and an aura of grievance seemed to take place. She could feel the regret coming from her mother. She didn't know how to tell her that it wasn't her fault, nor did she want to speak. She almost felt better in the silence.

It was cut short, however, when a smashing sound came from the ally. The two dragons turned around and found a snow pile that she hadn't noticed before. The pile started moving and a black figure came out from it, a Nightwing.

The Nightwing stood up shaking the snow off him. His scales were darker then she'd ever seen on a dragon, and the stars on his wings were barely visible. However the most unique characteristic was the terrible scar around his eye, it looked awfully painful. He turned around and looked up noticing the duo. He became obvious embarrassed.

"Uhhhh, hey ladies."

She thought the dragon was odd in a funny way. Before she could ask if he was alright she caught sight of her mother's look. She was glaring at the Nightwing in a matter that she didn't like him. If she didn't like him, she must have known him.

"Sorry about that," he continued, "I was uhhh, cleaning the snow of my roof."

"Were you now," Dreamcatcher deadpanned. "come on dear, let's leave this idiot to finish his chores."

"Are you alright sir?"

"Yes quite all right madame, I hope you and this beautiful dragon have a good day."

He bowed before running off, and Penguin couldn't help but giggle. The Nightwing was quite odd indeed.

"I think he might like you, mama," She said giggling.

"Lucky me," she scoffed before turning and walking off. "Let's get you back to the palace, it's getting late, and I'm sure a princess like you has a few things to do before bed."
