Chapter 1
Space Chicken
It was a peaceful morning in Big City. Emmett was shown sleeping in his room when his digital clock went off. Emmett pushed the sleep button and woke up. First thing he did was grab his clothes for the day, took a shower, brushed his teeth and put on his clothes.
In the kitchen mother Beverly just made breakfast and the whole family was about to eat in the kitchen, when Emmett came in. "Morning everyone." said Emmett. "Morning Honey," said Beverly. "Morning Son." said Eric. "How's it going, Soldier?" said Lloyd. "Pretty good Grandpa." said Emmett, Emmett and Rachel always called him Grandpa.
Emmett sat down and began eating his waffles with maple syrup. "So what's the plan on the agenda today?" asked Eric. "I don't know. Might go for a walk around Big City." said Emmett. "I'm gonna either practice the violin or write some poetry.'' said Rachel as she drank her orange juice. Emmett made a fart noise from his mouth which made Rachel laugh a bit with orange juice in her mouth.
"You know how to make people laugh, Emmett." said Roy. "Thanks Papa." said Emmett. Emmett and Rachel always called him Papa. "What happened to playing with your dolls?" teased Emmett. "I'll have you know Emmett that I have more important things to do than play with dolls." Said Rachel. "Still thinking about boys Rachel?" asked Eric "What can I say Dad, They're a new inspiration for me. Awwww boys." sighed Rachel.
"Speaking of love, I'm gonna try to serenade Alice," said Roy. "Again?" asked Eric.
"The only one my sweet Alice is falling for is me," said Lloyd. "Oh boy." groaned Emmett.
Lloyd and Roy are head over heels toward their neighbor Alice Green. Right after their wives died, Lloyd and Roy moved in with Eric and Beverly to help care for their children while they work. During that time they met the old woman named Alice Green and they have been fighting for her for over 15 Years. Alice finds it entertaining and uses their advantage to get the men to get her what she wants, much to the family's embarrassment. Despite their love triangle Lloyd and Roy do get along great.
"Speaking of Alice I heard some of her family members just moved in with her," said Beverly. "Why don't we go say hi later on?" "Splendid idea honey," said Eric. "What about you son?" "I'll think about it." said Emmett. He just finished his waffles when suddenly he sensed something. "What is it Bro?" Asked Rachel. "Something is going on outside." Said Emmett "Be right back." Emmett headed to his room.
Scene changes to Emmett's room
Emmett looks out the window and he sees a boy and a girl from the country riding a lawn mower over a passing car.
The 10 year old boy is short and thin and has a slightly large head, bright yellow skin, a buck tooth, and light brown hair cut in a bowl-cut hairstyle with both sides bare, wears turquoise blue overalls with a light blue-gray shirt underneath it and is bare foot. His name is Cricket Green.
The 12 year old girl is short and slender. She has medium-length black hair, freckles on both sides of her cheek, has Very light yellow skin, oval shaped eyes, two buck teeth, puffy cheeks, thin eyebrows. She also wears a light purple long dress that stops above her knees with a white collar and poofy sleeves along with white socks, and green mary jane shoes. Her name is Tilly Green.
The tractor lands in the mud, spins, then lands in front of the house. Tilly falls off, but Cricket remains on the tractor. "Eesh that's gotta hurt." Said Emmett. "Oh, hi there. We're your new neighbors. My name's Cricket. Cricket Green." Said Cricket as he introduces himself to the jogger. When suddenly the tractor catches on fire. The jogger was covered in mud and he continued to jog. "Hey, where ya goin'? Oh, okay, you're busy. That's fine." Said Cricket. "Well, stop by any time!"
Then Suddenly the father came out in a panic
The Father is pudgy, has a flat squarish chin, yellow skin, small bags under his eyes, and his finger on the right is stub due to getting it severed from a hay baler incident. He wears a red squarish trucker mesh hat, a forest green short sleeve shirt, bright navy blue jeans with dirt stains and a tear on the left knee, and worn brown shoes. His Name is Bill Green.
"Cricket, what in god's name are ya doin', boy? Have you lost your mind?!" Asked Bill. He took off his hat to put out the fire. Emmett thought to himself, "Well fires are dangerous, so this can be the time to panic." Cricket begins to explain what happened "Now, dad, I can explain."
Flashback starts
Cricket and Tilly mowing the lawn with the tractor. "At first, I was mowin' the lawn." Then the scene changes to the golf course.``Then, I was mowin' other lawns." "Fore!" Then suddenly Cricket and Tilly got hit by golf balls which were caused by the other golfers. Scene changes to the streets of Big City. Cricket and Tilly were nervously riding the tractor on the streets. ...Then it just kinda got out of hand.
Flashback ends
"Honestly, I don't know how I made it back here." Explained Cricket. "Tilly, are you all right?" Asked Bill. making sure Tilly was safe. "I have seen danger," said Tilly. "And I love it." "Listen, kids, I know it's been difficult adjustin' to city life." said Bill. But we've got neighbors to consider now." Bill notices one of the neighbors and begins to say hello. "Oh, hi, Mrs. Lewis." "Clean up your junky yard, ya hillbilly!" cried Mrs Lewis. She shut her window hard.
"The point is, folks don't know us yet." explained Bill. "So we wanna make a good impression." Suddenly Cricket starts to get his father's words and says to his father. "A good impression. Dad, consider it done." "Attaboy," said Bill. Then suddenly a Metallic clanking is heard as Bill grunts. "Son, again?" asked Bill. There's a bear trap trapped on Bill's leg. ""Aw, man, I'm sorry." said Cricket. Bill began to leave. "That's my bad. I was tryin' to catch a bear."
Emmett begins to notice from his room and decides to go over. "I better go check this out," said Emmett. He left his room and began to head out. "I'm going out!" cried Emmett. "Ok Emmett have fun." said Beverly. Emmett left the apartment.
Meanwhile Cricket was thinking about a way to impress the neighbors along with Tilly. "Hmm…" "What?" asked Tilly "Dad wants us to make a good impression around here. Tilly, what's the most impressive thing you can think of?" asked Cricket. "Uh, chocolate volcano." said Tilly.
No, we need something that makes your eyes go wide, and your heart beat fast! said Cricket. Tilly begins to think. "Uh... uh... a vanilla volcano!" Nooo! shouted Cricket as he fell off the fence.
Then suddenly a chicken appeared which gave Cricket an idea and he grabbed the chicken and said "We're gonna launch a chicken... into outer space." Cricket points up to the sky.
"Really?" asked Tilly. "We are gonna launch a chicken into space," said Cricket as he showed the chicken to Tilly. "Papa's gonna be thrilled," said Tilly. "We are gonna launch a chicken into outer space!" shouted Cricket as he lifted up the chicken. 'Woo!" cried Tilly.
Then suddenly Emmett was walking by and Cricket and Tilly started to notice him. "Right after we go say hi to that teen." said Cricket. "He seems cool" Before they launch their chicken into space they begin to introduce themselves to Emmett. "Oh, hi there." said Cricket as he got Emmett's attention. "We're your new neighbors. My name's Cricket. Cricket Green. And this is my sister Tilly" Tilly waved hello. Emmett began to notice his hand sticking out. Emmett knew that meant to show that he wanted to shake his hand so he began to bend down and shake. "Emmett. Emmett Dabney."
"We'll Emmett you seem like a cool guy." said Cricket. "What brings you outside on this fine day?" "Usually i come outside and walk around Big City" said Emmett. "Sometimes I come over here to your house to break up my Grandpas fighting." "Wait, those two old men fighting in our yard, those are your grandpas?" asked Tilly. "Yep, that's them all right." said Emmett. "Gramma said that those 2 are always fighting over for her affection," said Cricket. "What does your grandpas see inside of her?" "She can kick ass," said Emmett.
"Anyway, Tell us about you," said Cricket. "My family has been living in Big City for generations." explained Emmett. "I happen to be a 3rd generation citizen." Cricket and Tilly were amazed about what Emmett said. "No way," said Cricket. "Yep. I know this city from the back of my head." said Emmett." "I have so many questions and theories," said Tilly as she gazed at him. "What about you?" asked Emmett? "Tilly and I moved here from the county to Big City with our dad for better opportunities for our family and our farm." explained Cricket. "And now we're living with our Gramma," said Tilly. Hearing that made Emmett smile because he feels like he isn't the only one who has 3 generations living under one roof just like my family.
"So what are you up to?" asked Emmett."We're gonna launch a chicken into space." said Cricket. "So we can make a good impression on our new neighbors." "You can't be serious," said Emmett. "My brother is very serious when it comes to making impressions," said Tilly. Emmett couldn't believe that Cricket was going to pull a stunt like that. He asked Cricket. "I was wondering if I could watch you guys?" Cricket said "Sure why not." "The more the merrier" said Tilly.
The first thing Cricket does is get a cinder block and puts it down, then he uses a tape measure to measure the hen, then he saws off a piece of wood. Tilly calculates the length to launch the chicken into space. "Initiate launch sequence." said Cricket. Cricket jumps off the top of a refrigerator onto a plank connected to the cinder block, used as a seesaw. The hen is sitting on the other side of the plank. As Cricket lands on the plank, the hen goes up, but then she immediately comes back down. "Well it's a start," said Emmett. "Dang it. We're gonna need more manpower." said Cricket.
Then suddenly a 10 year old boy walks by, whistling and carrying a violin case.
The boy is a rotund kid who has brown skin with dark purple-tinted hair, wears glasses, a light violet sweater with a red sleeveless shirt, khaki shorts, and black and blue shoes with white socks. His name is Remy Remington.
"Hey kid." called Cricket. Remy began to notice Cricket 'Hm? Me?' asked Remy. "Yeah, you." said Cricket. "Wanna help us launch a chicken into space?' "Oh, well, I'm not sure my parents would approve." said Remy nervously. His parents are very overprotective when it comes to him being out on his own and concerned when it comes to his violin lessons. "Well, I don't see your parents around.'' said Cricket. "You in?" "Violin lessons be darned!" said Remy as he threw out his violin case to join the fun. "Welcome aboard," said Cricket. "I'm Cricket, and this here's Tilly." "This here's Remy.'' said Remy. "I mean, I'm Remy."
Suddenly Rachel sees Remy along with her brother Emmett and decides to go over to say hello. "Hi Remy," "Hey Rachel," said Remy. "Rachel what are you doing out here?" asked Emmett. "Well I couldn't find any inspiration for my poetry." explained Rachel. "So I decided to go out and find some inspiration…
(Play music: Dream Weaver by Gary Wright)
She stops when she sees Cricket and he sees him. Completely entranced in love, struck awe, the two 10 year old kids walk up to each other. "Hi, I'm Cricket." "Rachel. Have we ever..." "No, I just moved here from… the country.' explained Cricket. "I've seen the country, it's beautiful over there." said Rachel dreamly. "It sure is," said Cricket.
(End Song)
"Rachel." said Emmett as he interrupted the two kids. "Oh right." said Rachel. "I see that you met my older brother Emmett." Cricket looks up at Emmett as he smiles. "Woah." said Cricket. "Didn't see that coming." Cricket turns to Rachel. "Also, how do you know Remy?" "Remy and I have the same violin lessons so we talk from time to time." explained Rachel. Rachel and Remy are acquaintances to each other. But because of Remy's parents they don't have time to become friends.
Rachel wanted to stay and get to know Cricket better she asked. "What are you up to?" "We're gonna launch a chicken into outer space," said Cricket. "Cool, can I help?" asked Rachel. "Sure thing," said Cricket. "We could always use another hand." said Tilly "I'm Tilly by the way." Nice to meet you Tilly." said Rachel as they shook hands. "So how are we gonna launch this chicken into space?"
"We need a better propulsion system." Cricket said as he stomped his foot on the plank. Remy began to raise his hand. "Ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh." "Yes, Remy?" What about a really big slingshot? asked Remy. "Bingo-bango." said Cricket "I know just the thing." Cricket suddenly jumps up and off the plank. "Holy cow," said Tilly. Brenda the cow began to moo.
Inside the house Cricket, Tilly, Remy, Emmett and Rachel peek through the door and see an old woman sleeping on the couch.
The old woman is short, has yellow skin, wrinkles, a notably square shaped head with a face like a bird's, a long pink dress which mostly covers much of her height, a pearled necklace, black round glasses with light blue lenses, and pink furry slippers. She also has a wooden prosthetic leg. Her name is Alice Green. Cricket and Tilly always call her Gramma.
They were in their grandma's room trying to get a slingshot to use to launch a chicken into space. "Won't your Gramma be mad that we're sneaking around her room?" asked Remy. "No, it's no problem." said Cricket. Oh, good. said Remy. "Unless we get caught.'' said Cricket. "She's got a sword." Cricket opens the door and sneaks in. "Wait, what?!" asked Remy. He sneaks in as well along with Rachel. "I'll stand guard," said Tilly. "Why does your Gramma have a sword?" whispered Emmett. "For protection against her enemies," said Tilly mysteriously. Emmett knew he couldn't stand his sister being hurt, especially from a sword, so he decided to sneak in too.
Cricket, Remy, Emmett and Rachel continue sneaking around Gramma's room until Remy trips, which makes Cricket shush him. "Sorry. I…" Remy notices Gramma's wooden leg in his hands and that made him whimper. "Ah! Cricket, I broke your Gramma's leg off." Oh, relax. It's been broken off for years. said Cricket as he looked through his Gramma's dresser. "One time my Grandpa and Papa fought for her leg," said Rachel. "That's my gramma alright." said Cricket.
Cricket found his Gramma's old pantyhose. "Check it out, guys. These'll be perfect. Nice and stretchy" Cricket said as he accidentally bumps his gramma's kitty clock which woke her up "My chatchkes." said Alice "Show yourselves, bandits!" She gets out her sword and flashes her lamp at Cricket, Remy, Emmett, and Rachel. "Gramma, it's just me," said Cricket. Don't sword me... said Remy. "Put the sword down please," Said Emmett worried. "We come in peace," said Rachel. Gramma Alice puts her sword on her wooden leg, putting a dent in it then suddenly she notices Emmett and Rachel.
"You two?" asked Gramma Alice. "If you're looking for your grandpas there, not here." "We know Mrs Green," said Emmett. "What are you gonna do to us?" asked Rachel nervously. "Kids, that's four counts of trespassing." said Gramma Alice. "You four rascals are gonna have to pay the ultimate price!" "What's the ultimate price?" asked Cricket nervously. "Kisses." said Gramma Alice. Cricket felt annoyed that his gramma wanted kisses. He said to his Gramma. "Oh, Gramma." "Kisses!" shouted Gramma Alice. Knowing that his Gramma Alice won't take no for an answer, He runs nervously over to Gramma and kisses her on the cheek. "Your little friend, too." said Gramma Alice. "Uh, okay." said Remy nervously. He kisses her on the cheek as well.
"You know, your grandpas talk about you two and your parents a lot." said Gramma Alice. When Lloyd and Roy are not fighting over Alice, they would talk about their families, wars, history, sports, guns, or anything that's interesting. "Yeah and I love talking about them too," said Emmett. Emmett and Rachel's grandpas are big influences on them. And most of Emmett's interests are from his Grandpas.
"Speaking of kisses." said Gramma Alice as she pointed to her cheek. She wanted kisses from Emmett as well. "You know you're not my grandma right?" asked "Emmett" "I said Kisses!" shouted Gramma Alice. "Alright alright," said Emmett annoyingly. He kisses her on the cheek too. "You too girl." said Gramma Alice. She wanted kisses from Rachel too. "Ok," said Rachel. She also kisses her on the cheek as well.
"Oh, a little sugar." said Gramma Alice "Now git outta here, ya imps!" Cricket, Remy Emmett, and Rachel do so, but Remy stops and gives Gramma back her wooden leg. Here's your leg back. Said Remy. He continues following Cricket and the Dabney siblings outside. "My grandkids are crazy." said Gramma Alice as she put her sword away. "But I love them anyway." Gramma Alice continues watching tv.
Later Cricket was on the roof and he is about to launch the hen, who is now wearing a tiny helmet, off the slingshot on the roof. "Okay, so I just point it towards space, right?" asked Cricket. "Aim really, really high." said Remy. "Make sure you aim it at the right angle," said Rachel. "And tell the chicken you believe in her," said Tilly. "That's silly, and I ain't doin' it." said Cricket. But he decides to tell the hen in a whisper. "I believe in you."
Then Cricket turns around and says to the others. "I hope everyone is watching, 'cuz I'm about to launch a chicken into space. Pretty impressive." ""Very impressive!" said Rachel with excitement. "After the chicken, can I get a turn?" asked Tilly. "Tilly, this is science, not a ride." Your brother is right Tilly." Said Emmett. "It looks pretty dangerous for a human." "I'll still take a turn," said Tilly. She sips her Splish soda.
"T minus ten, nine, eight, seven…" said Cricket. Just as he was about to get to six Cricket accidentally slips Gramma's pantyhose off the pipe which made him slip down the roof and hang by a nail. "Hey, did anyone see that?" asked Cricket.
Meanwhile A couple was deciding what to order at Big Coffee which is right next door to the Green's House and a block from Elkins Apartments. "I can't decide between the chicken or fish," said the man. Then suddenly the hen landed on the table, then onto a red woman's table, smashing her food in her face, then onto other customers' tables, which irritates the waitress.
The waitress is a tall, slim young woman who has light purple skin, blue hair, wears a pink t-shirt, purple pants, black slip-on shoes, and a ponytail. But because she's working, her job requires her to wear a brown hat and apron over her clothes. Her name is Gloria Sato.
"Ooh. Not good." said Cricket. Seeing Gloria irritated, Cricket knew that he's in trouble. "Uh-oh!" shouted Rachel. "Gloria!" "Who's Gloria?" asked Tilly. "She's an employee at Big Coffee," explained Rachel. "Whatever you do, don't get on her bad side. Unless that person is Emmett." ''What does your brother have to do with this?" asked Tilly as she saw Emmett with a smirk. Rachel knew what that meant. "I think it's best if you see another time."
Gloria knocked on the door angrily and the person who answered the door was none other than Bill.. "Hello... oh, boy." Gloria is shown holding Cricket by the overalls and standing in front of the house with a bunch of angry customers and by the look of those angry customers, Bill knew that Cricket caused trouble. "I didn't do nuthin', I swear!" said Cricket. "Is this yours?" asked Gloria angrily. "He thought it would be fun to launch a wild animal into our cafe! Well, it's not fun!" Emmett watched from behind as he saw Gloria throw Cricket off.
One customer said : "There was a chicken in my chicken salad, and it ate some of it." Oh, great! "So now it's a cannibal!." said Gloria. "So sorry. I'll–" Gloria cut off Bill as she said. "Keep the animals on your side of the fence. That includes little... what's-his-name." Let's just say Cricket and Gloria did not get off to a great start when they first met. Gloria and her customers leave as she nervously steps over Phoenix. "My name's Cricket. I'm your new neighbor." said Cricket
After the door shut Emmett couldn't stand to see his new friend being called an animal like that. Ever since Emmett met Gloria he would always but heads with each other. Especially when it comes to Gloria's attitude or anger issues. He decided to push a bit of her buttons.
Inside the living room Bill was frustrated about what Cricket did with the chicken. "Son, this is exactly what I'm talkin' about!" said Bill. Because of what happened he decided to discipline his son. Bill said to Cricket "For the rest of the day, I want you to stay out of sight, in your room" "What? You're jokin'!" said Cricket. "I ain't jokin', son. Just...please go to your room!" said Bill. However Cricket wouldn't go and said to his father "You're serious?! I can't believe it!" "Mmm!" Bill gave him a stern face. Cricket knew that face he made meant that he had to do what he said. All right, I'm goin'! said Cricket as he headed toward his room.
But Cricket came back out and said. "I'll give you one last chance to change your–" "Cricket!" shouted Bill. "Do you wanna stay in the house for a week!? "Ack!" shouted Cricket. "No sir. I'll stay in my room." Cricket closed the door "Thank you son," said Bill. Remy and Rachel witnessed the whole thing. "Um, excuse me. Do you want me to go to Cricket's room as well?" "Mmm!" Bill glared at Remy which started to scare him. "I'll just go," said Remy as headed to Cricket's room. Bill asked himself. "Who the heck is that?" And then he turned to Rachel and said. "Who are you and where are you going?" Rachel responded "Where Cricket goes I Go." She heads to Cricket's room too. Before she enters she says. "I'm Rachel Dabney by the way." She closed the door. "Well nice to meet you." said Bill.
Next thing you know there was another knock at the door. Bill thought it was someone who also witnessed Cricket causing trouble coming over to complain. When Bill opened the door he said "Look if this is about my son i already- "No we didn't experience anything like that. We came by to welcome you to the neighborhood" The person at the door who said that was none other than Eric Dabney and his wife Beverly." "Oh, it's been a long day, my son was trying to make a good impression but he went a bit overboard.'' said Bill nervously. "Kids can be a handful at times," said Eric. He knows what it's like to deal with kids because he has 2 kids who happen to be Emmett and Rachel.
Bill decided to introduce him. "I'm Bill. Bill Green'' "I'm Eric Dabney and this is my wife Beverly." he said as he shook his hand with Bill. "Usually we come here to break up my father and my father in law from fighting over, for the love of the old woman that lives in this house, Alice," said Beverly. "Alice happens to be my mother." explained Bill. He had heard from Alice about Lloyd and Roy fighting for each other on the phone. But he never thought that he would meet each of their kids. "Dad did mention that Alice has a child," said Eric. "I never knew that the child is you" "We'll now know," said Bill. "Wanna come in?" "Sure," said Eric and Beverly in unison. They entered the house.
Emmett went up to Big Cafe to push a few buttons on Gloria. As he saw Gloria dirty and a bit tense he went up to her and Said "Hello Gloria, lovely day that we're having." "What do you want, Dabney?" asked Gloria. "Just wanted to see if anything happened around here? asked Emmett with a smirk. "Or should I say clucked around here?" "If that chicken has anything to do with you-" Emmett cut her off. "Just a friendly reminder that animals have feelings too, you know. Including it's kids"
Gloria knew that he was talking about Cricket. "That so-called kid, what's his name, caused trouble at the Cafe," said Gloria angrily. "The last thing I need is that animal to scare off the customers." "Really?" asked Emmett with a tease. "I thought it was your talents in the arts that scared off the customers." Emmett knew Gloria's failures when it comes to either performing or doing artwork would tick her off and ever since Gloria met Emmett she has a big passion of hatred for him, Gloria grinned angrily and said "You are so. immature!" "Sheesh you don't have to be angry about it." said Emmett as he leaves.
But before he left he tells Gloria. "And a little friendly advice, Don't judge an animal by its appearance or behavior, it could be a sweet gentle little bundle of joy" Emmett left as Gloria went back to work not thinking about what happened with Emmett or Cricket. Someday Gloria will learn overtime that people like Cricket, Emmett, or any of their family members, may be weird and annoying but they have good hearts.
Inside Cricket and Tilly's room was Cricket, Tilly, Remy, and Rachel. "Hmm. It's nice." said Remy. "Yeah, it's all right. Hard to sleep at night with all the traffic noise." said Cricket as he sighed. "What was I thinkin', tryin' to launch a chicken into space? It's so stupid. I'm never gonna impress this city" Cricket decided to give up." "I don't think it's stupid." said Remy."I'd never even think to do something like that." "Really?" asked Cricket. "Remy is right Cricket, I thought what you with that chicken was amazing!" said Rachel.
"Really?" asked Cricket. "Yeah." said Remy. "I mean, I don't know anyone who owns a raccoon skull." Remy goes over to Cricket's homemade dart board and asks. "And is that a homemade dart board?" He throws a dart on it. "And... and... and you got this thing." He picks up a rocket called "The Big Bang" which frightened Remy. "Whoa! Actually, this is a little scary." Seeing The Big Bang gave Cricket an idea. "But it's also pretty dang impressive," said Cricket. "That rocket will give us plenty of power to launch this here chicken into the great unknown. Tilly."
Tilly woke up from the top of her bed. "Huh?" she asked. "Two things. One, you gotta stop day sleepin." said Cricket. And two, you ready to be a part of history? "I guess," said Tilly. But Remy realizes that they are still trapped in their room. Remy asks. "But how are we gonna sneak outta your room without your dad seeing?" Suddenly Emmett knocked on the window and said, "Hello, anyone in here?" "It's just us inside Emmett." said Rachel. "How'd you get into our backyard?" asked Cricket. "I jumped through the fence," said Emmett. As long as Emmett has lived in Big City he knows all the shortcuts around the city along with Rachel.
"Also has anyone noticed a hole underneath your room?" Suddenly Cricket takes the bottom drawer and Emmett was right about the hole. Which turns out to be a secret hole. "Bingo bango." "Whoa! A secret exit? But doesn't your room get cold at night?" asked Remy. Oh, very much so. Said Cricket. Cricket remembered the first night he slept in his room along with Tilly after moving to Big City and it was very cold that night.
Meanwhile Bill was sitting in the living room with Eric and Beverly getting to know each other. "Well I was born and raised here in Big City," said Eric. "And it's a great place for me and my family." "I grew up in Central Heights, which is a suburban neighborhood right here in Big City," said Beverly. "But it's 30 minutes from the actual city." "I remember passing by Central Heights with my Ma when we drove to get food for the chickens," said Bill. "But I grew up in this house. Before all of this was Big City there used to be a lot of land."
Bill remembers when most of Big City was in development. His mother Alice was not happy about Big City because it's taking away the land that she used for farming and that land has been used by her family for generations.
"So what do you do for a living?" asked Bill. "I work at an organization that helps businesses all over Big City. Plus we help people find jobs in Big City." explained Eric. "I work in sales at a paint company." explained Beverly. "Employees get free paint, which is good because I give some to my family." "Well I'm not that creative when it comes to art," said Bill. Bill has a lack of imagination when it comes to stories or art. Because of that he is totally plain. "So if i remember what you told me is that your son tried to launch a chicken from the roof, but it landed in the Big Cafe." said Eric. "We'll i did what any other parent does to their kid if they misbehave, send them to their room." said Bill
"How many kids do you have, Bill?" asked Beverly. "Two kids," said Bill. "I have a 12 year old daughter named Tilly and a 10 year old son named Cricket." "Same here, we have 2 kids too," said Eric. "And we have a son too, Except he's 15 years old. His name is Emmett, he can be a bit of a prankster, but he's smart, kind and loves living here in Big City." "And we have a daughter who is the same age as your son," said Beverly. "Her name is Rachel and she's very talented in a lot of stuff."
When Bill heard the name Rachel he realized something. "Was she wearing a purple and white zig zagged striped sweater?" asked. Bill. "Yes?" questioned Eric. "Oh she's in my kids room." explained Bill with a smile. "As long as Cricket stays in his room, your daughter is safe."
But Bill was wrong about Cricket, Tilly, Remy and Rachel. They were in the front yard along with Emmett. Cricket was holding the chicken, while Remy was holding the rocket. "Go, go, go. Hurry up." demanded They tie the chicken up to the rocket and put it on some planks. "You ready Cricket?" asked Rachel. "I'm ready, '' said Cricket. Okay, let's do this."
Cricket grabs a traffic cone and uses it as a megaphone while standing on a cardboard box as a stand. Cricket shouted "My fellow neighbors! may I have your attention, please?" The citizens of Big City start to notice Cricket and the kids. "You are about to witness something you will never forget. I, Cricket Green, will launch this chicken into outer space!"
A group of people gather around to see along with Lloyd and Roy. "That must be Alice's grandson." said Roy. "He's one energetic boy." The 2 old men have heard stories about Cricket along with his sister Tilly from Alice "Gather 'round! Don't be a stranger!" shouted Cricket. Even a little girl wants to see the chicken. "Mommy, let's go watch the chicken rocket!" she said as she dragged her mother.
"Cricket told the chicken. "Okay, you, I guess this is goodbye. I'll be waitin' right here for you when you get back." He gets out a couple of toy military troops with parachutes attached to them. "Oh , and take these. For your re-entry." Cricket said as He puts them in the rope. Remy holds a magnifying glass over the wire, which ignites it, raveling it toward the rocket. Tilly puts on a pair of goggles. "You have goggles? Should I have goggles? "asked Remy. Cricket looks excited as the wire ravels; the chicken looks nervous as she is about to be blasted into space. The chicken was nervous. "Cricket, are you sure about this?" worried Emmett. "Emmett, quit worrying." complained Cricket. The wire reaches the end. "Here comes blastoff!" said Cricket. "Yay!" shouted Tilly and Remy in unison. Alright Cricket!" shouted Rachel.
However, instead of blasting off into space, the rocket just shoots tiny fireworks and sprouts a tiny American flag on top. The chicken lays an egg, which cracks as it reaches the ground. Which made everybody uninterested. One man asked "What the heck happened? " "It must've been a dud." said Remy. Suddenly a police officer came to tell everyone to leave. "All right, everyone, move on. There is literally nothing to see here." Everyone left and that made Cricket worried. Cricket said. "Oh, no, we're losin' 'em!" "Cricket what are we gonna do?" asked Rachel "Plan B!" said Cricket. Cricket runs over to the chicken house and releases all the other hens. "Come on, girls, move those chicken legs! Move, move, move!" Cricket decided to launch a bunch of chickens until one of them goes up into space.
He gets Gramma's pantyhose and tries once again to use it as a slingshot to launch the hens into space, with Remy and Rachel holding one end, and Tilly and Emmett holding the other. "I can't believe I'm doing this," said Emmett. "We ain't impressin' anyone till we get a chicken into space." said Cricket with determination. He grabs a white hen and puts her in the slingshot. Ten, nine... said Cricket. But Cricket wanted to get people back fast. "oh, heck. Blast off!" Cricket launches the chicken, but she just flies in mid air. A group of people leaving stop when they notice.
"It's not high enough, Cricket." said Tilly. "We just gotta keep tryin'." said Cricket with determination. Cricket launches chicken after chicken, but none of them go into space. Remy looked up and said "Oh! Cricket, we've got a problem." "I know. These dang chickens can't seem to break free of the atmosphere." said Remy. "It's not the atmosphere Cricket," said Emmett. "Look!" The hens Cricket failed to launch into space fly down towards people, making them scream. One of the chickens pecks a woman's sunglasses and she screams "My eyes! It's pecking out my eyes!" "Just a little higher. Cricket said with a passion. "We're almost there!"
Cricket launches another white hen, but she just flies down towards the people running away from the other hens, and pecks a screaming pink woman, who faints next to Miss Brenda. Several other people run back the other way. Another hen lands in front of a man's windshield, who was listening to music, and is startled when he sees her and he screams "Oh, my god!" He drives out of control, crashing into a telephone pole in front of the cafe, which cuts the power...
Bill is sitting in his chair reading a book entitled A Man and His Tractor while Eric and Beverly we're relaxing. The lights go out due to the power going out, and he realizes… "Cricket." "What makes you think this is your son?" "This isn't the first time that something like this was caused by Cricket." "Bill and the Dabney couple decide to go outside and investigate."
Back outside, people are still running from the hens. "I've seen a lot of chaos growing up but this takes the cake" Said Emmett. "Dang, outta chickens." said Cricket "We'll just have to…" Suddenly Cricket notices the chicken he was originally trying to launch into space, still wearing her helmet. A boy is watching Cricket about to launch the chicken into space from his apartment and said. "Hey, come check this out!" A turquoise girl watches Cricket as well "Oh cool!" Lloyd said from the south sidewalk "Haven't seen this much chaos since Vietnam" "And two of thoses kids on the roof look like Emmett and Rachel." said Roy "Wait a minute, that is Emmett and Rachel." said Lloyd.
Cricket gets the chicken back in Gramma's pantyhose and stretches it farther then before, thus ripping part of it. Cricket, you're stretching it too far! worried Remy: "This is our last chance." said Cricket. "We gotta make it count." Cricket whispered to the chicken again. "I still believe in you." Cricket lets go of the pantyhose, releasing the chicken and finally launching her into the sky and into space. Cricket did it, he launched a chicken into space. "Oh, my gosh, we did it! Ha ha, we did it!" Cricket shouted.
Next thing you know chaos is spreading all over the neighborhood. The man in the crashed car notices and he said "Hey, he actually did it!" "Cricket, Tilly, Remy, Emmett and Rachel are cheering, we can see that they caused a lot of damage trying to launch the rest of the hens into the sky. "I can't believe i'm saying this but great job Cricket." said Emmett. "What can I say, I have a determination for good impressions," said Cricket proudly. "Cute" whispered Rachel. Cricket notices Rachel and asks "What?" "Oh nothing" said Rachel with a blush. Cricket began to blush too. Cricket is not a big fan of romance. But when he saw Rachel he felt different like his dislike for romance is going away.
Next thing you know, Bill, Gramma Alice, Eric and Beverly came outside. Bill "Cricket, I told you to stay in your... Room?" He notices the mess they caused. "What the heck happened out here?" "We did it, Dad, just like you asked." "Mom, Dad?" asked Emmett. "Kids, are you alright?" asked Beverly. "Were ok Mom." said Emmett "Cricket just launched a chicken into space" said Rachel.
Cricket noticed the parents and introduced himself. "Cricket Green. Hi" "Anyway, what are you talkin' about? What are the neighbors gonna think?" worried Bill
The magenta boy said, "That was awesome! You guys are awesome! See ya tomorrow!" He leaves along with the Turquoise Girl laughing. Suddenly Lloyd and Roy come up. "I thought what you did was a bit loco." said Roy. "Crazy in a good way," said Lloyd. Bill notices the two old men. "So your the two old men who have been fighting for my Ma." "And you must be Bill," said Lloyd. "And we just gotta say what your son did was the most impressive thing he's ever done." Bill was impressed by Lloyd and Roy's words about his son.
"Well, whatever you did, Cricket, I guess it made a good impression." Said Bill, "And next time, try to cause less damage." Cricket said "Oh, yeah, we did pretty good, huh?" Cricket wrestles Bill. "I gotcha now. I gotcha." said Bill. Tilly and Gramma wrestle along with them and then Remy comes up and asks "Uhm, excuse me. May I also join in the roughhousing?" Gramma grabs him with her cane, and they all wrestle each other. The Snyder Dabney Family notices the family wrestling. "I guess things are gonna be a little different in Big City." said Emmett. He was right, Things in Big City are gonna be different thanks to the Greens. And as for Rachel she just found her dream boy and it's Cricket Green.
I wanna give a Shoutout to Cowboy Alchemist, noodlepals, Monster1000, Speedstar2k12, and Vgn Golley because they are an inspiration for my Fanfiction.
The prologue is a homage to the pilot episode on Malcolm in the Middle where Malcolm introduces his family.
The scene where Cricket and Rachel met is a reference to Toy Story 3 when Ken and Barbie met.
It's not that I don't ship Cricket and Gabriella. It's just when I made Rachel she was gonna be a love interest for Cricket and this was before Gabriella made her first appearance.
