Sandy had been invited over to Danny's house, his mom was making lunch for the two of them. She loved it when Sandy came to visit, she had really taken a shine to the girl who had her son's heart. Danny and Sandy were in the living room, they had been talking all afternoon about how now that they had graduated the world was now at their fingertips. "Danny, tell me a story." Sandy spoke. "I wanna know how you and the boys became friends, Frenchy told me you were all literally brothers." She added.
Danny smiled at her.
"Sure darlin'." He smiled. "Let's see, well our fathers…mine and the guys' fathers met since childhood."
"Really?" She asked.
Danny nodded.
"Yep, then years later they met our mothers…" Danny tells her. "All through childhood, Putzie and I lived next door to each other, so it was no trouble going over to his house at night when Putzie had bad dreams or was scared." He smiled.
Sandy giggles.
"Aww, I bet he was a real cute little kiddo." She says.
"Oh he was." Danny said. "That is why I never allow him to smoke, drink or rumble."
Sandy smiles.
"By the time middle school came around, I decided we should be the T-Birds, but only 5 of us and it also meant that no one and I mean NO ONE could comes between me and my boys." He adds.
"Aww." Sandy awed.
Danny chuckles at her.
"Besides, I uh…even though I was only 5 but I still remember something awful had happened to Putzie." He told her.
"What happened?" She asks him.
"We were on a playground, I was in charge of watching Putzie and Doody since they were the smallest…and s-some…some little brat p-pushed Putzie off the slide. He was on the top." He tells her. "We had to rush to the hospital, because he broke his arm when he landed."
"Oh the poor thing." Sandy said.
"Even at 5, I felt so guilty." Danny added. "It was my job to protect him and look out for the kid, Sandy."
Danny lets out a sigh.
"I always made a promise that I'll never ever let anything bad happen to that kid." Danny said. "Putzie is like the baby brother that should be protected." Sandy gently kisses his cheek.
"It wasn't your fault honey." Sandy told her.
"I know, but…I just couldn't let that happen again. Not ever." Danny said.
"And it won't." Sandy tells him.
Danny looks down at her.
"Because he has you and the guys." She added.
Danny just nods his head and kisses her forehead.
"Danny, Sandy, lunch is ready." They heard Diane called out.
Danny smiled.
"Come on." Danny said as they both stood up.
They walked in the kitchen holding hands.
