I could see the fight was over, and I walked away from Cale. I went through the ropes and made my way over towards Rowen and Kaye. "Told you I'd be quick."
"Nice fight," Rowen complimented as he turned his attention on me.
I grinned as I took back my shirt and put it back on, "Thanks," I moved a bit closer and lowered my voice, "Rowen, it's been a long time. Meet me at the Torrent around nine tonight. We need to talk."
I saw Rowen nod and then Kaye took my arm and we started to walk towards the exit. We stopped and I glanced up and back towards the three, "Nice facility. I'll have to think about joining someday." I saluted and then left with Kaye out the front door.
Rowen watched us leave and then glanced at Cale when he joined his side. "What did he say to you?"
Rowen shrugged, "I don't think it's any of your business. I have to go. I'll be back later in the week. I have some business to take care of."
Cale narrowed his eyes at Rowen, "Make sure you make it to practice. It isn't like you don't need it."
Rowen started walking away from him, "Look who's talking." He replied as he continued out the door.
Kaye and I continued walking and then made it to my car. We got in, and I started to pull out of the parking lot. "Hey, are you alright?"
Kaye looked over at me, "I'm fine. You took on Cale with no problem."
"I had extra motivation. I wasn't going to let him talk to you like he did." I replied as I was still a bit hot under the collar from the way he treated her.
"I appreciate you for what you did." Kaye answered and then changed the subject, "Do you think Rowen will show tonight?"
I nodded.
"Well then, I guess you better get cleaned up and get ready? Would you mind dropping me off at the Torrent before you head home? I have to talk with Cye for a bit." Kaye said as she looked over at me.
"Sure, if you want me to, I can," I replied as I took the next turn towards the waterfront nightclub.
Kaye smiled at me as I parked at the entrance of the Torrent, "Thanks, I'll see you tonight."
I smiled back at her as I watched Kaye exit my car and went to the back as she grabbed her things. I made sure Kaye made it inside with no problem. Once I knew she was inside I put my car back into drive and took off from the nightclub. As I continued to drive. My mind started to recap everything from the start of the day with Kaye and me in my office to the visit from Kayura. The mysterious car following us, and the fight in the Dynasty. There was something about the case which still bothered me at the back of my mind. But I was having a hard time putting my finger on it. The visit with Rowen tonight at the Torrent might help clear up a few things.
At the last minute, I decided to go and put in a visit to Ryo and Sage before going back to my office. It didn't take me long to arrive at the cop shop. This time, I parked in front of the station and got out. I made my way to the second floor where I saw Ryo and Sage talking with one another at their desks. "Hey, we need to talk."
Ryo and Sage stopped with their conversation when they heard me. They stood and could see I didn't seem too pleased with this visit. They ushered me to a private room and shut the door behind us.
I started to shoot off my questions, "How long did you two know about the death of Dais? Why didn't you say anything to Kaye and me about it when we were here earlier? Why is Rowen in town? Are you guys doing an investigation along with the feds?"
"Kento, slow down would you?" Ryo asked as he glanced over towards the door and then back at me.
"Speaking of Kaye, where is she?" Sage inquired with a raised brow.
These two were hiding something from me. I didn't like it. We don't usually hide things from one another. So why are they now? "I know what you're trying to do. So don't change the subject. I need answers, and I'm betting you guys know, so spill."
Ryo and Sage glanced at one another and sighed as they turned their attention back on me. "Alright, Kento. We'll tell you what we know, but you can't let anyone else here know you heard it from us."
I thought it over and nodded, "Fine, so are you going to answer my questions? Or do I need to go and ask someone else?"
Sage studied me, "You're hotter under the collar than usual. Something happened?"
I raised a brow at him as I crossed my arms, "You're changing the subject again."
Ryo rubbed the back of his head, "Gomen Kento. Things have been pretty high strung around here ever since the attack on Dais. This is a high-profile case, it's why the feds are doing a joint investigation."
I nodded, "Figures since Kaye and I saw Rowen at the Dynasty. We figured he must be undercover as a new fighter." I didn't want to tell them yet about Rowen being in the same black vehicle with Anubis who tailed Kaye and me earlier. They didn't need to know, at least not yet. I figured it would more likely be in Rowen's report.
Sage blinked at me, "Wait, you two made it inside the Dynasty? How? When we had undercover officers not even making it through the front door."
I smirked at him, "Simple, we walked right on in, even though I had to challenge Cale to a fight, I knocked his sorry ass down." They didn't need to know I was defending Kaye's honor from the scumbag. "So, are you two going to answer my questions?"
"Alright, when we approached your vehicle earlier. We knew about what happened with Dais. We were coming from the hospital when Sage and I came across the two of you. We received a call from them telling us Dais was dead. We went to go and check it out, but by the time we arrived his body was already gone."
I uncrossed my arms, "What? You're kidding me?" I saw them shake their heads. "The receptionist told us the cutter came and took his body before Kaye and I arrived. So then, if the cutter wasn't from here, then where?"
Sage shook his head, "We're not sure. There was a call about an abandoned vehicle on the side of the road with the back doors open. Ryo and I went to check it out. The vehicle was a fake. Whoever did a quick rendition of a cutter's van was sloppy. The paint wasn't all the way dry near the back doors."
"Sounds like whoever it was had been in a hurry. But whoever wanted to cover up Dais' attack was putting a lot of work into it. But it also raises the question of who and why?" I studied my friends with a deep frown. "When did Rowen get involved with the investigation?"
"The feds got wind of the Dynasty involved in something major, but they wouldn't say what. They didn't have anyone to infiltrate the Dynasty until Rowen stepped up. He contacted Sage and me earlier in the month. Since it was starting to be a federal investigation, we couldn't bring you and Kaye into this."
"Yeah, well, we're into it now," I glanced up towards the clock and noticed the time. "As much as I wouldn't mind hanging around and keep playing twenty questions, I'm going to be late." I walked past Sage and Ryo as I opened the door and left. I knew they were watching me as I walked down the stairs. They didn't need to know I was going to meet up with Rowen at the Torrent tonight. I hurried up to my car and got in. I pulled out of my parking spot and then noticed the same black car with no plates a block behind me. I smirked, figures I was betting it had been Anubis following me again. He's persistent for sure. So I let him follow me a few blocks and then I did a quick turn into an underground parking lot. I backed into a dark spot and waited for Anubis to show. I had my car shut off as I kept my eyes ahead. I waited for a few minutes and then I smirked as he pulled inside. I hunkered down a bit, so it would be harder for him to see me, but I could still keep my eyes on him.
Something didn't feel right about this tail. Anubis has the rep of being the best fixer in the city. He wouldn't have anyone pick up his tail unless… It wasn't Anubis. He wouldn't let someone pick his tail up. So then, who is following me this time? I waited until the black car drove by and saw it park down a few rows. I waited and saw Sekhmet getting out from behind the wheel. I frowned, what does he want? What is his deal?
I noticed Sekhmet kept glancing at his watch every so often. I frowned he wasn't tailing me. Was I in the wrong place at the wrong time? I kept watching and a few more minutes passed and then another vehicle pulled in next to him. The driver got out. I couldn't see who it was because he had his back to me. They were talking, but I couldn't make out what they were saying either. I was too far away to hear. Being pinned in was starting to annoy me, if I go they'll spot me as soon as I pull out. But if I stay, I'm going to be cutting it way too close to meeting Rowen at the Torrent.
