Kaye sat at her desk writing on note card what we knew about this crazy case from when it started to now. Then Kaye put them on the board and tried to see how everything fit together. She stepped back to get the whole picture. Some things connected, while others seemed to be no connection at all. What were we missing? Something wasn't right. It was more likely right in front of her, but she wasn't seeing it. Kaye wondered if I was having any luck at the Dynasty. If Rowen or I had a chance to snoop around Kayura's office or not. Kaye hasn't heard anything from Ryo or Sage either. They were more likely busy with other police business.

Kaye continued to stare at the board trying to figure out where to go next. Kaye decided it was time for a break. She put the board in my office and hid it behind a secret panel. Then it wouldn't be obvious if other clients or visitors stop by or something. They didn't need to know what was on the board, it wasn't their business. Kaye started walking towards the door and then stopped. She turned around and took in the sight of my office as she leaned against the door frame. Kaye let her mind wander as she closed her eyes for a moment. That in itself was a mistake. Kaye didn't hear someone come up from behind her. The next thing she knew. Kaye felt someone clamped their gloved hand over her mouth and wrapped their other arm around her.

Kaye thrashed around trying to get loose. Kaye felt him lifting her up, so her feet wouldn't touch the ground and they started moving backward. Kaye continued to thrash around trying to cut loose, he tightened his hold. They were starting to pass her desk. She brought her legs up and bent her knees as she pushed off with the bottom of her feet on the edge of the desk hard and fast. Kaye's assailant must have not expected her to react as she did. Because he grunted when his back hit pretty hard against the opposite wall and let go.

Kaye stumbled a bit forward and glanced back as she raced out the door. Kaye couldn't see his face because he wore a full mask. 'Damn, there was no way I'd be able to give anyone a description of my assailant.' As Kaye continued running, she heard him racing after. Kaye didn't dare look back she kept on dodging. She was trying to push whatever she could to the ground to make it a little harder for him to chase her. Kaye burst outside and then went into the next building. She hurried farther inside, luckily there was a crowd and she started to blend herself into it. Kaye grabbed a different trench and a large brim hat with sunglasses. She put them on and turned her back at the entrance.

Kaye felt her heart racing. She could hear her blood pounding. Kaye was doing what she could to get her breathing under control. Kaye glanced around and then spotted a small mirror on the ceiling. It faced towards the front door where she raced in. 'I'll be able to see the guy who was trying to abduct me. He'd have to take off his mask before he went outside. Those short seconds game me a little bit of time to hide in plain sight.' Kaye kept her eyes on the mirror. She might be able to recognize what her attacker wore if he came inside.

Kaye watched for a good five to ten minutes, and didn't see him. 'Did he go back into Kento's office? Or did he go in a different direction? Did he leave?' Kaye had no idea. But she couldn't stay there all day either. Kaye had to risk leaving. So she put back the trench, hat, and glasses and made her way to the back. Luckily the people who worked here knew us. So they weren't surprised to see her go through the back of their building. Kaye made it into the alley, and she didn't see anyone.

Kaye walked across the street and flagged down the nearest taxi. She gave the driver an address and then he pulled out into traffic. Kaye leaned back in the seat as she closed her eyes. Kaye was trying to remember everything she could about her attacker. Any little thing might be helpful. Kaye couldn't be sure of his voice because he didn't talk. He only made a noise when she shoved him backward into the wall. He was pretty well covered. So she couldn't see any distinguishing marks. Kaye didn't see his face or hair because of the mask. But the clothes and shoes were of high quality, fancy. 'At least what I saw from my glance him. Which told me he was no average punk. So then was he some type of pro? A fixer? There was only one fixer I knew, and it was Anubis.' But the problem with that was there are many fixers in the city. So it might not have been him.

Kaye felt the taxi coming to a stop. She opened her eyes and saw they made it to their destination. Kaye paid the driver and got out. She walked up to the door and searched for the key. Kaye found it within a few minutes. She smiled in relief. 'Kento left his extra key in a place to where I'd be able to get to it.' Kaye unlocked his door and went inside and then locked it behind her. Kaye felt a little better being in Kento's house. She didn't go to hers because mine was closer. She sat down in the chair next to the phone. Kaye was trying to think of who to call. She debated on calling the Dynasty to get a hold of me, but that might not be the best of ideas. Then Kaye decided to call Ryo and Sage. She waited until one of them picked up their phone.

It took a few rings, but she finally got through, "Hello, this is officer Sandana, how may I help you?"

"Ryo. It's Kaye."

"Hey, what's going on?"

She waited a bit before answering, "Ryo, someone attacked me at our office."

"What?" Ryo asked a bit startled and then he motioned for Sage's attention. "Kaye are you alright? What happened? Where are you?"

"Ryo, one question at a time. I'm alright, a little shaken up but I'm not hurt. I was at our office. I had my back to the entrance, and a man grabbed me from behind. I fought to get free. It took a bit, but I did push him back into a wall. Then I took off. I didn't get a good look because he wore a full mask and gloves. But his clothes and shoes were on the expensive side." Kaye started to tell him as he was relaying this to Sage. "I'm at Kento's house waiting for him to get home. I found his spare key and let myself inside, I have the door locked."

Ryo frowned, "Are you sure you're alright?"

"I'm getting there."

"Kaye, stay at Kento's. Keep the door locked. We'll go to his office and check it out. Did you want one of us to come over and wait with you until Kento comes home?"

"No, but I appreciate the offer."

"Are you sure?" Ryo asked as he saw Sage grab the keys to a cruiser.

"I'm sure. Would you let us know if whoever was trying to abduct me went back to Kento's office? I'm sure this attempt is about the case we're on." Kaye asked.

"Yeah, we'll stop by Kento's place when we're done at the office and let you two know. We'll talk later, take care." Ryo replied as he hung up the phone.

Kaye hung up and then rose to her feet as she walked to the couch and laid down on it and closed her eyes for a moment. Kaye didn't realize she fell asleep until she woke up by the front door creaking open. Kaye shot up and then turned her attention towards the door. "Kento."

Kaye saw the confused look on my face as I shut and locked my door.

"What are you doing here?" I asked as I walked over to the couch and sat down next to her. "Kaye?"

Kaye saw the concern in my eyes and heard it in my voice. I had a hunch something happened because I knew she wouldn't come over to my house for no reason. Kaye waited a bit and then she told me what happened at the office. Needless to say, I wasn't angry with her almost abduction. I was a bit angry at myself for agreeing to the idea. I'm relieved she wasn't hurt.

I was going to speak, but then a knock at the door stopped me. I rose to my feet and glanced back at her before I walked to the door. I peaked out and saw Ryo and Sage standing there. I unlocked the door and let the two of them inside. "Kaye brought me up to speed. So what did you find at our office?"

Ryo and Sage glanced at one another, "It looked like a hurricane went through and tore it apart. It's going to take some time to put your office back together. We'll get in contact with Rowen and let him know what happened too. He might have some insight on this. We're not sure if the attacker went back to look for something, or he might have been leaving a message."

I looked over at them, "Thanks for going over and taking a look anyway. Do you think we can go back soon?"

Ryo shook his head, "It'll need to go through the investigation team first. That'll take a couple of days at least. But we'll let you know when you two can go back."

Sage glanced at Ryo, "Speaking of going back, we got another call." He looked over at us, "Sorry we can't stay longer. But we'll let you know what Rowen says after we talk with him."

"See you two later. Thanks again." I replied as I walked Ryo and Sage to the door.

Kaye waited a bit and then walked to the phone and started to reach for it.

"What do you think you're doing?" I asked as I was watching her.

Kaye looked over at me, "I was going to call for a taxi to get a ride home."

I shook my head, "You're going to stay here tonight."

Kaye raised a brow at me, "Kento..."

I was being stubborn as I got between my phone and her, "I mean it, you're staying here. Besides, the two of us need to talk."

Kaye saw how serious I was in this as I guided her back to the couch and we sat down next to one another. Kaye studied me as she waited for me to say something. Most of the time she can guess what I'm thinking, but this time around, She's having a hard time reading anything from me. It started to make her a little nervous. 'Did he want us not to be partners any more, does he think I am more of a reliability after all?' Kaye looked down and stared at her hands as they balled up and rested in her lap.

I placed my palm on her cheek, and it snapped Kaye out of her thoughts. Kaye brought her head up and turned her attention towards me. Kaye watched as I pulled my hand from her cheek and kept it close enough to brush some of Kaye's hair out of her face. I had lowered my hand and cleared my throat before I even said anything. I was nervous about something too. Usually, I can handle anything and anyone, but this was something a little unfamiliar.

"Kaye, I know we haven't been partners for very long, heck, I'm not even used to having one. But, with the cases we did work on together it was great. I couldn't ask for a better partner." I smiled a little at her.

Kaye returned my smile, but she couldn't help but feel this might be it for us. because of this case? What brought on the change of heart? Kaye wasn't sure she wanted to find out. Kaye started to stand, but then she felt me taking hold of her wrist and guiding her down next to me again. Kaye looked at me confused. I let go. "Kento, what are you trying to say? Do you or don't you still want me to be your partner?"

I blinked in confusion as I frowned, "What? Why wouldn't I still want you as my partner? Because of this case? Whatever gave you that idea?"

"Lately, it seems we're both not exactly ourselves. I'm not sure how to explain it. I know you and I tease and flirt with one another for fun, but for some reason, it seems more...Serious. It started getting serious when Kayura first came to the office. Then when we went to the Dynasty and you were in a tangle with Cale. Then at the Torrent..." As soon as Kaye was going to finish what she was going to say I moved closer to her and leaned in. I reached up and cupped the side of her face as I ran my thumb along her cheek.

Kaye's eyes became soft as they locked onto mine. She felt her heart beating in her chest. The next thing Kaye knew she felt my lips on hers kissing once, twice, three times. Then I rested my forehead on hers as we kept our eyes on one another. Kaye thought I wanted to see if she was going to stay or bolt. She stayed.

Kaye could feel her heart beating a mile a minute. She wouldn't doubt mine was too. I chuckled a bit as I smirked. I pulled back a little and winked. "Does that answer your question? Of course I still want you around. We'll have to figure out how to work this out with our current partnership. Since we're going up another level."

Kaye felt herself blushing and feeling a little shyness kicking in as she smiled back at me. We spent the rest of the night enjoying one another's company.
