"Percy, Pyrrha, Tetra, time for school!" Sally called up the stairs to the three kids.
She heard a frantic shuffling and some shouting.
"Pyrrha, give that back!"
"Percy, that one's mine!"
"Stop biting me, Tetra!"
Sally looked across the table to her best friend, Heather Steins. "They're certainly lively this morning."
Heather snorted. "They've got that field trip today, then we're traveling cross country to Montauk. Of course they are."
Heather was glad she reached out to Sally all those years ago. She didn't think she could've raised Tetra on her own these past few years.
"Bye mom, bye auntie!"came three shouts before the door slammed. The two women just laughed at the antics.
Percy sat next to his friend Grover on the bus, with his 'sister' Pyrrha and his best friend Tetra sitting across the aisle. Mr. Brunner was sitting at the front, giving them rules to follow as they pulled into the museum parking lot. Mrs Dodds stood next to him looking at all of them disapprovingly.
The trip was interesting for all the students. But it was clear that the group of four friends was the most interested. Mrs Dodds had her eye on Percy the entire time, as if she was trying to figure him out.
They were headed outside to have lunch when Mrs Dodds said, "Mr Jackson, please stay behind. I need to speak with you for a moment."
The other three looked a bit worried, but Percy waved them off. "I'll be fine. Don't worry. It's not like she'll be able to do anything bad to me."
Pyrrha and Tetra nodded and dragged Grover off when he tried to protest. Percy looked back at Mrs Dodds and asked, "You wanted to speak with me ma'am?" Percy knew he had a problem with authority figures. His first reaction to them was snark, sass, and sarcasm. But Sally and Heather had made sure to hammer it into his head to pretend to be polite until they did something that warranted his actions.
Mrs Dodds gave him a calculating look. "How aware are you of the mythical world, Jackson."
Oh. Wow. He didn't think anyone would be that blunt about it. "My mom's sending me to camp this week." Percy was a little suspicious of his teacher now.
Mrs Dodds sighed. "That's what I was worried about. Zeus's master bolt has been stolen, and he thinks it was you. I was sent to retrieve it. However, after watching you for the past few months, it's evident you didn't know about it. I'm informing you now as a favor for The Lady."
Percy blinked. "Right. Well, what happens now?" Percy was a little confused.
Mrs Dodds shrugged. "I'm supposed to kill you or drag you to Zeus, if I don't die."
Percy tried to fight a smile. "Well then, let's make this believable."
Mrs Dodds lunged at him, transforming into a bat-like creature as she did so. The only indication anything had happened was the ZAP heard from outside the museum.
