- Mandie
Never in her life did she think that taking a simple walk in the nearby park would change her life forever.
Mira had always been fond of duck watching, always remembering to pack some nice, crunchy lettuce to feed them if they approached her.
Today was no different.
A smile washed over her lips as a beautiful female duck waddled over to her, honking at her a few times before she picked off a few pieces of lettuce and tossed it close, laughing gently as the duck jumped before devoring the treat.
"It's nice to see that people are feeding the ducks something they can actually eat," came a voice from behind her, causing the girl to jump slightly in surprise before turning to look up at who spoke.
She smiled gently at the young man, dressed head to toe in an elegant suit, noting to herself that he seemed slightly out of place in the park.
"It's always so sad seeing people feed them bread, it's so bad for them," She replied before patting the empty seat next to her. To her surprise, he sat down with a light sigh.
"I agree."
She tore off a nice chunk of lettuce and offered it to him, which he took with a nod of gratefulness. "Thank you."
The sound of children laughing, birds chirping and the gentle breeze instilled a feeling within Jumin that he knew he hadn't felt in a long time. It took a moment, but he was finally able to put a finger on the feeling.
It was peace. Utter peace.
"Do you do this often?" He asked.
Mira grinned and nodded softly, tossing the duck another small piece of lettuce.
"I try to do this at least once a day, even if it's only for a few minutes. It takes away the stress of daily life, especially when living can be so incredibly hectic and busy." She smiled towards the small lake, watching the baby ducks swim around and honk at each other as they played. "It reminds me to take a moment to enjoy just simply being. If that makes sense," She chuckled softly at the end, giving him a small smile as he thought over her words.
After a tick, he hummed in agreement, tossing his own small piece of greens to another duck that decided to come see them.
"What about you? If you don't mind me asking."
Jumin was quiet for a moment, wondering if he should lie to this stranger. He looked at her, taking in her bright hazel eyes and decided honesty was best.
"No, unfortunately. My life is... much too hectic, as you put it." He looked out to the pond himself as he continued, "I run a significant company and it's hard to balance my own life when so many others lives are in my hands. It's become... overwhelming, if I may say."
Mira frowned slightly, nodding in understanding.
"It's can absolutely be difficult to remember to take care of yourself, especially when you're always busy juggling the lives of other people."
She reached out and patted his knee before giving him the rest of her lettuce, along with a beautiful smile.
"Remember to put yourself first, sometimes. You can't take care of others if you're running on fumes."
She got up and stretched, humming softly before turning back to the well-dressed man.
"I hope you enjoy the rest of your day! I'm here again tomorrow around the same time if you need some good company."
He stood as she began to leave, calling out after her, "What's your name?"
She turned and grinned, "My name is Mira! See you later Mr. Han."
A look of surprise washed over Jumin's face before he gave a small smile himself, waving her off as she left with a wave of her own.
He sat back down and sighed once more, the feeling of dread filling him again as he realized his lunch was nearing an end. Usually he sat in his office, going over paperwork or being in long, boring meetings, but today he decided to do something different.
It was a good choice.
For the first time, in a long time, Jumin felt happy. Taking out his phone from his suit jacket, he opened a text chat and sent a message before putting the phone back, crunching small pieces of lettuce apart and tossing them to the ducks with another small smile.
He took another moment before getting up, brushing off the back of his slacks and began making his way back to the office.
It was a good day, indeed.
The moment Mira got back to her apartment, her phone buzzed. Reaching into her jeans, she opened the text and grinned, unable to stop the blush from overtaking her face.
Jumin Han: It was a pleasure to meet you face to face. Would love to have dinner sometime, if life isn't too hectic for you.
Mira threw her arms up with a whoo! leaving her lips as she took a moment before replying, throwing her phone onto the couch once the text sent. She made her way to the small kitchen and began making some lunch, knowing she had a few emails to reply to.
Mira: An absolute pleasure! I'm free tomorrow night if you are. :)
Jumin had just sat back down in his office when his phone buzzed. He made to grab it when the door swung open and four men walked in, reminding Jumin of the incredibly boring meeting that was about to begin.
"If you'll give me just a moment, gentlemen," he commented before grabbing his phone, turning his chair to face out the window so the men didn't see his small smile. He sent a quick text to Jahee to clear his schedule after 5pm tomorrow before responding to Mira, agreeing to have dinner then.
Turning back around, he placed his phone on silent and face down on his desk before pulling out the right papers for this meeting.
"If you're ready to begin."
Aaa! I'm so happy to have finally gotten something written after ages of having writers block. If you want more of this, feel free to let me know! I love writing Jumin because he is a bit of a challenge. I feel more confident writing for Yoosung and Seven but this was just so much fun. Writing Jumin doing mundane and silly things feels... refreshing.
I truly hope you enjoyed reading and I hope to see y'all again soon!
Be good, my little peeps ! xo
