Chapter 3
Kelly slept off and on that night having strange dreams. They made no sense, and when the morning came she was restless and ended up getting up early. She was going to start making breakfast, when she heard the phone ring incessantly making her roll her eyes.
Kelly reached for it and her heart sank. It was the landlord.
"Mr. Edwards, hello," Kelly said.
"I got a call from your boss, and learned you were fired. How are you going to pay the rent now?" he demanded.
Kelly shook her head then.
"I am going to find another job…." she started to say.
"Your boss seems to think you aren't capable of holding down a job because you're a bit what did he say, oh yes…Worthless." her landlord said as Kelly's mind started working overtime with what their father used to say about her.
Haley and Erica walked out seeing silent tears running down Kelly's face.
"Kelly?" Haley and Erica whispered as they went to their older sister.
Haley grabbed the phone.
"Shut the hell up, jerk," Haley growled, not caring who was on the other line.
Kelly abruptly snapped out of her upset state because of her sisters not wanting to worry them. However, she knew she had enough money to pay off the rent for this month, and she had enough money to last them for food and such if they decided to take off.
"We can't stay here anymore," Kelly said.
"Alright," Haley and Erica both said, shocking Kelly.
"You both are alright with that?" Kelly asked.
"Yeah, of course just as long as we are together, who cares where we live," Erica remarked.
"Alright, I'm heading for the bank, I want you guys to pack up everything and have it ready," Kelly said.
"We'll start packing up your stuff first, and we'll get our stuff last," Haley said.
"Alright," Kelly said. "We'll have breakfast on the road, sound good?" Kelly asked.
"Yeah sis," Haley and Erica stated.
Kelly nodded and went to the door to go to the bank. However, Kelly did not count on her sisters being targeted by the landlord, nor would the landlord realize just how protective the older sister was of her siblings.
Haley and Erica packed up Kelly's things and saw the books they got her for Christmas and her birthday.
"She loves dragons," Haley said with a laugh.
"And….. Optimus Prime. And…. Ghostface, Legion and Samara, well we all like Myers," Erica said.
"I like Deathslinger and Pinhead, I want to fondle his box," Haley laughed.
"I love my sweet Bubba and Trapper," Erica said.
One hour later…
"What's taking, sis, so long?" Erica asked.
"Maybe, she got some gas too for the driving and snacks, and she no doubt took all the money out," Haley said.
"Oh yeah, I didn't think about snacks," Erica said.
"Okay, well we are almost done now packing," Haley said as they heard a loud pounding at the door.
"Loud much," Haley said as the banging got more intense.
"We don't want any!" Erica yelled.
"I want the money for your last month NOW!" he yelled.
"Shit, where is sis?" Erica asked.
Where Kelly was…
Kelly was filling the SUV with gas and put bags into the front seat with snacks too. She got back into the SUV when the cell phone rang showing an unverified caller. Kelly frowned but answered it just the same.
"Hello,"
"Your sisters are in danger…" a strange voice uttered.
"What?" Kelly asked as she didn't ask twice she pulled away in a rush like the devil himself was chasing her.
She got to the apartments. She got out of the SUV and went to the trunk area and pulled out a shotgun through fooling around with anyone capable of messing with her sisters. She ran up the stairs and kicked the door open, leveling the shotgun at the landlord.
"I have your damn money, get the hell away from my sisters, now, shit for brains," Kelly snarled.
The landlord laughed at where she was pointing the shotgun.
"You can't even hold it at my heart or head," he mocked.
"If I wanted to kill you, trust me you'd be dead already. I was aiming for something much more valuable to a scumbag like you." Kelly said. "Get the bags into the SUV, and as for you dickface, here's your money for your crappy apartment," Kelly said as she left, grabbing the rest of the duffle bags.
However, what bothered her was who was the stranger who called and was he connected to the strange figure outside last night?
