In the 3 years that Sokka has gotten to know Princess Azula since the war ended and they no longer saw each other as enemies, he came to a realization. He was in love with Azula. Sokka liked the way she laughed whenever he told her a joke, the way she smiles when she's happy, even the way she smirks when something either goes her way or if someone (mainly Zuko) humiliated themselves. Sokka had a feeling that the others had caught on to his not so subtle feelings towards the princess, even Katara. Who seemed to be completely fine with it when she figured it out, much to his shock. If the others didn't have any problems with this, it made his life that much easier. Now all he had to do was find Azula and confess his feelings to her. No big deal.

He really should have known better.

Sokka made his way to the royal library, assuming that Azula would more than likely be there reading a book. Upon entering the library, he saw that his assumption was correct. There she was, sitting in a chair reading a book. Hearing the door open, Azula looked up from her book, " Hello, Sokka. To what do I owe the pleasure of this visit? Are you here for a pai sho match, perhaps?" Sokka smiled at her and said " Maybe another time. I'm not ready for you to kick my ass again." Azula smirked "Coward. If it's not that, then why are you here?"

Sokka gulped. It was now or never, "Well actually Azula, I came here to tell you something." Azula looked at him curiously, "And that something is…?" Before he could say anything more, however, the door opened up and a little voice cried out "Lala!"

Oh great, Sokka thought. Now I'm not going to be able to tell her anything. Whenever Kiyi comes into a room nothing else matters to Azula.

Kiyi ran up to her sister with a huge smile on her face "Lala guess what? I finally managed to do that new firebending form that you showed me! Can I show you, can I?" Azula got up with a smile on her face "Of course. Let's go outside." Kiyi cheered and ran out of the room. As Azula made her way out of the room, she remembered that there was someone else here too. She quickly turned around to face Sokka. "I'm sorry about this Sokka, but do you mind if we finish this conversation another time?" He gave her a small smile,"Of course. Have fun." Azula gave him a small smile of her own, thanked him and then walked out of the library. Sokka sighed.

Damn brat

The second time around, he found her in the dining area, having a small lunch. Seeing as they were all alone, this was the perfect time to tell her. Sokka slowly made his way over to her and gave her a small wave "Hey, how are you doing today?" Azula looked up from her plate and smirked, "Well I was doing just fine until a certain someone interrupted me from my lunch. Something that I can do for you, Sokka?" He jokingly bowed "I'm sorry for interrupting her highness from her lunch, but yes there is something you can do for me. Remember a few days ago when I told you that I had something to say to you? I was hoping that we could continue-"

"Oh, there you are my niece! Are you ready for our pai sho match?"

What. The. Fuck.

Azula stood up from her seat, "Ah yes, I forgot that was today. I do wonder why you always get excited for these matches when you know I'm going to win, dear uncle." Iroh laughed "I may just end up surprising you today, Azula. You never know." She smirked at him "You always say that and yet the result is always the same." Their voices started to fade away as they walked out of the dining room.

Leaving Sokka by himself.

Spirits, what did I do to deserve this? I helped the freaking avatar end the 100 year war, damnit!

The third time Sokka came across her, she had just wrapped up a conversation with her mother.

Sokka stopped and blinked.

Since when does Azula talk to Ursa? Their relationship had been as cold as ice since Ursa's return to the palace. As Ursa was walking away though, Sokka caught the look on Azula's face.

She was smiling.

A smiling Azula made for a happy Azula, which meant that this conversation would go over smoothly. As long as there were no more interruptions, that is. He began to make his way over to Azula, but before he could reach her, a hand found its way onto his shoulder. Sokka turned around to see Zuko, who seemed to be angry for some reason. "Sokka, do you mind if we talk for a minute?"

Yes I mind damnit, I'm trying to confess to your sister and this is the 3rd time I've been interrupted!

Of course, Sokka said none of this, "Of course. What's up, Zuko?" The firelord turned around and began to walk away "Not here. In the throne room. Follow me."

Once they were inside the throne room and the door was closed, Zuko whirled around on Sokka. "What are your intentions with my sister?" Sokka blinked.

What?

"You're going to have to be a little more specific, Zuko. What are you talking about?" Zuko scowled "Don't play dumb with me, Sokka. I've noticed that you've been trying to catch Azula whenever she's alone lately. Why is that? What do you want with her?"

Oh. So that's what this was all about.

Sokka wasn't sure if he should be happy that Zuko seemed to finally catch on to what being a big brother meant, or if he should be pissed that his brotherly instincts kick in now of all times. "Fine, I'll tell you if that will make this conversation end. I'm in love with Azula and I have been trying to tell her that but I keep on getting interrupted. This happens to be the third time, by the way." Zuko stood there in silence for a few seconds before he shouted "WHAT?!" and the flames in the room began to rise.

Shit

Zuko started to pace back and forth "No, absolutely not! I don't know what kind of game you're playing here Sokka, but you are not dating my sister!"

Sokka glared at him "Are you serious right now, Zuko?! Now of all times you decide to play the protective big brother card?!" Zuko stopped walking and a dark look came upon his face " Do not go there with me, Sokka."

Shit, shit, shit. Wrong choice of words.

Sokka sighed "Look, Zuko, I love your sister. I promise I won't hurt her no matter what. She's been through enough pain in her life." Zuko glared at Sokka for a few seconds before he sighed and the flames began to calm down. Sokka wasn't a bad guy for his sister to be with, he supposed "Fine. Just…be good to her, ok? That's all I ask." Sokka smiled and nodded, and then he walked out of the throne room.

It was night time now. Which meant that Azula would soon be going to bed. He had to talk to her before she went to sleep. No more interruptions. Sokka made his way to Azula's room and was getting ready to open the door when he thought of two things. First, she could be changing her clothes, and if he were to barge in while she was in the process of doing so, he could kiss this conversation goodbye. Second, she had told him some time ago that Zuko had barged into her room one night while she was sleeping, demanding to know why she lied to Ozai for him. Sokka remembered all too well about the look of pure rage on her face as she told him this, and about how she had to hold herself back from killing Zuko that night.

Better knock first.

After knocking two times and waiting before he heard a faint "come in" he opened the door and entered her bedroom and closed the door behind him. This was it. No more interruptions.

Hopefully

Azula looked at him and said "Any reason why you came to my room when I'm getting ready to go to bed?" Sokka took a deep breath before he responded. "Yes, there is. For the past few days I've been trying to tell you this but I kept on getting interrupted. So I figured that now would be the perfect time to tell you this. I'm in love with you."

Silence

Azula stared at him with a blank expression on her face, which slowly began to make Sokka feel very uncomfortable. Couldn't she at least say something to him? Just as he was starting to think that he had wasted his time and made a complete fool of himself, she smirked. "So I was right. That is what you've been trying to tell me."

Wait, what?

Sokka looked at her, confused. "Wait a second, how did you know that I've been trying to tell you this? I barely even managed to get the words out before I was interrupted." Azula rolled her eyes. "Sokka, whenever a guy asks to speak to a girl in private, it's usually for one thing. Of course I couldn't be too sure about this, so I decided to ask my mother."

Huh. So that's what that conversation had been about.

Wait

She was smiling at the end of that conversation as Ursa was walking away. So could that mean that she felt the same way about him? Only one way to find out. "What did she say?" She crossed her arms. "I'm sure you can guess, but she confirmed my suspicions. And you've definitely confirmed them now." He looked at her with a somewhat hopeful look on his face. "So then… how do you feel about me?" She smiled and slowly made her way over to him. "I've thought about this a lot after my discussion with my mother, and I realized that I love you. I don't know when these feelings towards you began to grow, or how, but I'm not going to deny that they aren't there."

She loved him. Princess Azula actually loved him. He could barely contain his joy.

Just as he was getting ready to walk towards her and give her a kiss, she stopped him by putting one of her hands in front of him. Sokka looked at her with a confused look. Normally whenever he confessed his feelings to a girl, they kissed right afterwards. At least, that's how it went with Yue and Suki. Azula noticed the confusion on his face and chuckled. "As much as I would love to kiss you right now Sokka, I'm tired. And if we kiss right now it will more than likely turn into a make out session. So, kindly see yourself out. And don't be like Zuko and actually close the door."

Sokka couldn't believe it. Out of all of the people who could possibly cock block him, the girl that he had been dying to confess to was definitely not on the list. As he made his way out of Azula's room and closed the door behind him like she asked him to (he was not about to be on the receiving end of her flames or possibly lightning, thank you very much) he smiled to himself. He had finally been able to confess his feelings to Azula.

No more interruptions indeed.
