"Come to me."

"Go away. I'm sleeping," Rosario mumbled.
"Then I'll come to you," Roman said.

The bed dipped when someone crawled up on it. Her eyes flew open and she stared up into Roman's smirking face. He placed his hands on either side of her and she felt trapped.

"You can't be here. There's no gateway open," she said.
"Isn't there?" He asked.
"I didn't open anything," she said.
"Didn't you?" He asked.
"No, I..." She started.

She turned her head and stared at the chest supposed to hold the necklace. The chest was open. She reached a hand up and felt the necklace around her neck.

"I didn't put it back on," she said.
"Didn't you?" He smirked again. "It's a very powerful tool. You can't resist it no matter how hard you try. Did you know that you sleepwalk? I followed you back here and watched you get back in bed. Thanks for the invite."
"What do you want from me?" She asked.
"I just want the necklace. That's it," he said. "So be a good girl and hand it over."

He lifted a hand and held it in front of her face.

"Okay, you can have it," she said. "Let me sit up so I can take it off."

He moved to the side and watched her intensely as she sat up. She looked around to see if she could find any invisible line of some sort to indicate where the portal had been made. She had figured out so far that she created it somehow and went through it to a similar world but it always felt different. Today her entire bedroom felt different.

"The necklace!" He growled.
"Sorry," she said. "I'm just tired."
"I'll keep you awake forever if I have to," he said warningly.

She moved her hands up as if she would take off the necklace. Instead she threw her elbow full force into his face. She heard him growl in a mix of pain and anger while she stumbled out of bed and ran through the house. The portal to the normal world had to be somewhere.

"Rosario!" He shouted. "I will make your life a living hell until you give me that fucking necklace!"
"Leave me alone!" She screamed.

She ran to the front door and found it open. She had to have been sleepwalking here and opened the portal in her sleep. She stumbled outside and landed on her knees in her driveway. She looked up and saw Carmella standing there with her dog.

"Are you okay?" Carmella asked.

Seeing Carmella could only mean she was back in the real world. The portal was closed behind her until a new one would be created.

"I'm fine," she said.

She ran back inside, put on a dress, and grabbed her laptop. She googled anything she could think of in relation to the mysterious necklace. She gasped when she finally found a website belonging to someone way deep into supernatural things. Apparently he was a professor at the local university. He had an entire website dedicated to all kinds of weird things, and there in the bottom was an old picture with a woman wearing it. It looked like the necklace she had. There wasn't much information on the website other than this being one of a kind, how it was always passed down from woman to woman, and how it apparently could open gateways. She needed to see that professor.

"You better have some fucking answers for me, professor!" She growled.

She got out in her car and drove to the university. She snuck in through a back door and walked around until she found the door with his name on it.

Professor Finn Balor

She barged into his office without knocking. He looked up surprised from behind his desk.

"You need an appointment," he said.
"This is my fucking appointment," she said.

She pointed at the necklace around her neck. His eyes widened and he walked over to her. He held up his hand but stopped himself.

"Can I touch it?" He asked.
"No. I've figured out so far that it opens portals when I close my hand around it. I don't know how it will react to others doing it," she said.
"As the rightful owner, only you can open portals," he said.
"You got any proof of that?" She asked.
"Many years of research," he answered. "But actual proof? No. But I know things. Maybe more than you."
"Where do these portals lead to?" She asked.
"You already know that. You've been there," he chuckled. "Some sort of mirror world where everything is beautiful, but behind that beauty lies an evil world."
"Beautiful evil," she sighed. "Fuck my life."

She ran her hands down her face and yawned.

"I'm so fucking tired," she said.
"They will keep you awake. Some people learn to work around it and get some sleep. Others give up within days," he said. "May I ask what you have seen on the other side?"
"Some guy named Roman," she said.
"Yeah, I figured. He always seems to pop up," he said.
"And to think I was about to sleep with him," she said. "Well, you know what they say. If you can't fuck a man, fuck a demon instead. Is he a demon? What is he?"
"To be honest, I don't know. Some people will call them demons. I think we lack a better word for them. They are pure evil. Let's just stick to demons," he said.

She sighed and her shoulders dropped. He seemed to know about as much as she did, and it wasn't really helping.

"He wants the necklace," she said. "What does he need it for?"
"To open gateways so they can enter our world. So far you're entering their world. He can't follow you out of it because you control it. It's always women in our world, but it's men in their world. He can't take it from you. He needs you to give it to him willingly. He will stop at nothing to get it," he said.
"So far he's keeping me awake," she said.
"Most people will break within a few days without sleep," he said.
"I'm at my breaking point, alright," she said. "How do I get rid of it?"
"You can't," he said.

He walked over to a cabinet, unlocked it, and pulled out a journal. He handed it to her, and she looked through the names and dates he had written down.

"It took me many years to follow its trail. I'm still missing a lot of women, but these are all the women I know that has been the owner," he said.
"But there's so many," she said.
"You have to pass it down too. Write your will today. You see, there's two ways he can get it. You can give it to him, or he can wait for you to die without having arranged for anyone to take over. If it doesn't get an owner, it's his to take. You don't want that to happen. He will let them all into our world to destroy it. We will become slaves to these evil beings. Our world will suffer for an eternity," he said.
"So much for taking my own life," she said. "Fine, back to the idea of burying it in my garden."
"It will always call out to you, and you will listen. You might be strong enough to fight back against it, but you can never let it go completely," he said. "Unless..."

He rubbed his chin while thinking.

"Unless is a good word. I like unless. Unless what?" She asked.
"I'm not sure. I might have an idea. We are the world of light. Theirs is the world of shadows," he said.
"So burn it?" She asked.
"The opposite," he answered. "Their shadow world is fire. Hot, angry, out to kill anything good. Our light world is water. Still as angry but out to put out the fire. It all comes down to who is the strongest."
"You're talking riddles," she said.
"Can you bring me into their world?" He asked. "I've always wanted to see it. Maybe if you hold my hand while you open a portal."
"What the fuck is wrong with you?" She asked. "Thanks for nothing. I'll figure it out myself."

"Come to me."

"And you can shut up too, Roman!" She hissed.

She turned to leave but he grabbed her and spun her around. He held on to her wrist and reached for the necklace. As a reflex, she moved her hand up and closed it around her necklace. His eyes widened and she turned around and saw what he saw. The door was still open and leading to hallway, but the hallway felt different.

"What the fuck did you do?" She whispered. "You know I have to go through it in order to go back and close it. He might be right outside waiting for us."
"Let's find out," he said. "You need my help, so let me help you. What's your name, by the way?"
"Rosario," she said.
"Rosario, let me help you," he said. "Let's go."
