Azula trains, but it's not with the usual calmness that she feels whenever she becomes one with the flames.
Azula trains with rage. Rage at her mother. Rage at her brother.
"Did mom speak to you before she left?"
Azula looks at him and tilts her head to the side "Um, no. I was asleep when she left, dum dum, and so were you, remember?"
Zuko looks at her with shock on his face. Why? Both of them were sleeping when she left, so why does he look-
No. That's not possible. Mother wouldn't do that, would she?
"She said something to me before she disappeared. I thought she did the same thing to you."
Mother would do something like this. Of course she would, because at the end of the day she wasn't her precious Zuko. The look on her face must have been scary, because her brother looks terrified.
Good
"No, she didn't say a word to me. Now if you'll excuse me, I have training to do."
Why? Why did mother say goodbye to Zuko and not her? Was she truly that unlovable? Did mother truly see her as a monster, enough so that she couldn't at least say goodbye?
Azula trains with a burning hot rage.
Azula trains until her flames turn blue.
Azula runs to find father, excited to show him what just happened. She has never heard of anyone wielding blue flames before, which makes her the first person to ever do so.
Father was right, she really was born lucky!
As she gets to the throne room, she pauses.
What should she say to him when he asks her how she did it? She can't exactly say that it was because of the feelings that she felt when she thought of mother, and her parting words to Zuko, that caused her to gain this new power. About how angry and hurt that made her feel. Father would see that as a weakness. Azula knows what father thinks of that. She's seen it in the way he treats Zuko.
And she's sworn that she will never let herself suffer the same treatment.
With these thoughts in mind, she opens the doors.
Ozai looks up as he hears someone coming into the throne room. He is surprised to see that it is Azula. Shouldn't she be training? Before he can say this, however, the girl bows before him and then holds out her palm.
"Father", she says, "I have something to show you." And then she firebends.
Except it's not with the usual color that a firebender has.
These flames were blue.
Ozai looks on in shock, before he leaves his seat and makes his way towards Azula. As he walks towards her, his mind runs a mile a minute, thinking of all the possible ways this could have possibly happened. Nobody has ever possessed a blue flame before, not even his father or grandfather. So what did this mean? Just how powerful was his daughter becoming?
He crouches down to her level so that he can get a good look at her flame "Azula, how did this happen?"
The girl looks at him with hesitation before replying "I was training and all of a sudden it just happened. I have no idea how I did it."
Training?
That's how this happened? He supposed that he has been making her do the more advanced sets lately. And unlike her failure for a brother, Azula doesn't stop until she can do the moves perfectly. So perhaps he shouldn't be all that surprised that she has achieved this.
Ozai smirks "You have made me proud, my daughter. Nobody in this family's history has ever wielded blue flames before. I was indeed right about you. You were born lucky."
Azula looks up at him with a small smile on her face, happy to hear him praise her.
"Now, continue your training, Azula. You are dismissed."
The girl bows before leaving the room.
As Ozai walks back to his throne, he only has one thought in mind.
If I can harness that child's power, she will become the weapon I need to end this war.
Azula trains, but this time it's not with a burning rage.
Azula trains with happiness.
She is happy that she has made father proud. Happy that her newfound power is the reason behind it. Happy that unlike mother, father actually loves her.
And if growing stronger means that father will continue to love her? She shoots a stream of blue flames from her fingertips.
Azula will gain all of the power in the world.
