James Charlus Potter flew up from his bed and looked around his room for a clock. When he found one he immediately began freaking out. It was already 9:45! He sprinted down the stairs that led to the kitchen. He found the ingredients to make himself a simple sandwich with marmalade and crammed it in his mouth before running back up the stairs to finish packing his belongings for Hogwarts. "James, why are you in such a rush?" His mother inquisitively asked him. "Well, mom…" James said, after internally groaning. He did his best to stretch out those two words, trying to buy himself time to think up an excuse when "You forget to pack didn't you?" His mother sighed. James nodded, trying his best to look sheepish. "Well, off you go then, hurry up." James bolted upstairs, praying that he had his stuff in places where they were easily accessible. He ran around the room like a madman, occasionally taking bites from his sandwich while he got books that were strewn randomly across the room, and stuffed all sorts of things he might need at random. He was about to go and tell his parent to take him to the station when he realized that he might need to pack changes of knickers, and robes. So he ran back into the room and grabbed all of the robes that he could fit into his bag, and shoved them. He had 7 different pairs of robes for the entire year, and all he could do was pray that was enough to last him the year. As he looked around his room, he noticed that it was only 10:20. He breathed a massive sigh of relief. He casually walked into the bathroom and began washing his mouth. When he was done, he strolled down the stairs to the fireplace and called out "Mum, Dad, come on, I'm ready to go." As he sat there waiting, he wondered about all the things that could go wrong. What if the Hat didn't sort him? What if he missed the train? What if he fell off of the train? There were so many different things that could go wrong, and he was so terr- "Come on Jamie, we have to go now." His dad said as he strode into the room. James shook his head to clear his mind and stepped into the fireplace. "Platform 9 and ¾'s, Kings Cross Station!" As he calmly walked out of the fireplace, he looked around the platform. It was beautiful. He turned around, and for the first time in his life, saw the Hogwarts Express. To his eyes, it seemed like it stretched on forever, and he looked as the clouds parted and the sun struck the scarlet engine in such a manner that it gleamed in the morning's light. "Bye Mum, bye Dad!" James yelled, before stepping onto the train and pulling his trunk behind him. He tried for nearly 15 minutes to put his trunk up on the luggage racks, and he nearly had it up when "Hey there, need help?" came a voice. James turned around, and in doing so dropped the trunk from the luggage rack. "Yeah, that would be appreciated, mate." James said. He turned and saw a boy with grey eyes, an angular face, and curly, luscious hair. "The name's Sirius Black." The boy said. "James Potter." "Well, James, what quidditch team do you support?" Sirius asked. "Caerphilly. What about you?" James then muttered, "I swear if he says Hollyhead, I'll skin him like the Potters of Old did." "Relax mate, I'm a fan of Portree." "Excellent. So, what position would you like to play?" James asked. "Probably Beater. You?" Sirius replied. "Chaser. Most important position by far." James said. The two continued talking about Quidditch for nearly 20 minutes, and the conversation finally turned towards Hogwarts and its houses. It was around this time that 2 new kids came rushing into the compartment. One of the 2 kids had greasy hair, sallow skin, and a hook nose and was a boy. The other was a girl, with hair red as fire, and eyes greener than anything James had ever seen. "So what House would you like to be in, mate?" Sirius asked, shaking him out of his reverie. "Gryffindor, like my dad. You?" "Gryffindor, so I can stick it to my family. Bunch of fucking prats, the whole bloody lot of 'em." The greasy-haired kid snorted in contempt. "Something to say, Snivellus?" Sirius cruelly said. "Come on Sev, let's get away from these bullies." The redhead said, before running out of the compartment with her friend in tow. The conversation slowly turned back to Quidditch, only being interrupted by the arrival of the snack trolley, and the boys purchasing as many sweets as they could. They continued to talk about nothing in particular, until Sirius said "Tell me if I'm wrong, but getting fitted for robes is the worst thing in the world. Why don't we just have a spell to take our measurements?" "Tell me about it." James moaned. "It's honestly so damn annoying to get poked and prodded like a damn Pheonix in a menagerie!" "Wait. Speaking of robes, don't we have to get changed?" Srius asked. James paled. "Shit, I forgot." James pulled his trunk down, and flicked it open quickly rummaging through the magically enhanced compartments, before finding his school robes. He threw his everyday clothes off, and threw on his school uniform. "How the fuck do you tie this!?" James yelled after spending around five minutes trying to tie his tie. Another boy, who was shorter than Sirius and James knocked on the compartment door and asked shyly "Can I sit with you?" "Sure." James said offhandedly, before focusing on his tie. "D-Do you need help?" The boy asked. "Yeah, I do." James said "Can you help me?" "Of course he bloody can, ya idiot. Why else would he ask if you needed help?" Sirius told him. "Y-Y-Yes I can help you. D-D-D-Do you want me to?" The boy asked. "Yeah." The boy seemed to gain some confidence at that. He maneuvered behind James and deftly tied the tie. Without even asking, he moved over to Sirius and tied his tie, before quickly sitting down and looking sheepish. "So, what's your name?" Sirius asked. "Remus Lupin." The boy, now named Remus said. "So, Remus, want to play Exploding Snap?"James asked. "S-sure." He shyly replied. James dealt the cards, and the boys played until the train started to slow down, signalling that they were arriving at Hogsmeade. During the train ride, James and Sirius managed to get Remus to open up to them, and stop being so shy. "Well, we're almost there. I reckon we should get ready to go, shall we lads?" Sirius said. The boys bustled around the compartment, cleaning up and straightening themselves out. As the train pulled into the station, James ruffled his hair so it stood on end, and Sirius switched the side it was on, while Remus look ed on from the background in amusement. As the train halted, and the doors slid open, James, Sirius and Remus stepped into the steam, and looked around at the station in barely concealed awe. As they began to follow the older kids, they heard a loud voice bellow "Firs' Years! Firs' Years over here." They turned towards the vice, and saw a giant of a man holding a lantern in one hand, and beckoning them with his other hand. As they began moving over to the man, they saw other students that looked to be their age moving over there too, so they decided to follow them. As the students began trickling towards him, he led the leaders off the station, towards a beaten path that led away from the rest of Hogsmeade. As the students tromped off behind the man "James, d'ya reckon he's a giant?" "Obviously, Remus. No human can stand at 3 meters and not be a giant." James muttered out of the side of his mouth, with a roll of his eyes. (For Americans, who are most people reading my stories, thats 9.8 feet.) "Though, he can't be a trueborne Giant, because then he would be much taller. I reckon he's half-blood." Remus looked to be chewing on that, as they continued down the path. As they rounded the bend they saw a pier with boats just floating out on the water. The man spoke for the first time "Orderly, right, kids. 4 to a boat, wait yer turn." The three boys watched as students got into the boats and as the boats steered themselves away from the dock, while others steered into their place. They lowly shuffled forward, and ended up being lumped into a boat with each other and a short, chubby boy, with a mole on the left side of his neck that was extremely prominent. Remus looked at the other boy with contempt and disgust, barely noticed by James, who waved it off as him going crazy. The boys sat down in total silence, as the boat moved slowly forward. They stopped right in line with the other boats, and as he looked to his left, he saw him. The greasy haired git from the train. And his friend. Merlin, the git had so much grease in his hair, it reflected the moonlight better than the lake waters did! "Look at Snivellus, Sirius. He's just disgusting, isn't he." James whispered. "Yeah. He's got enough grease for our entire year to use for our hair." Sirius replied. As the boats procedeed down the canal the students began feeling a building sense of anticipation. Then, around the bend they went, and before them stood one of the most beautiful sight that the students had ever seen. Hogwarts. The stars burned bright, with an intense glare to them, seeming to be inviting, yet threatening at the same time. The towers of the castle seemed to be pulling the very fabric of the night sky down, and ripping holes through it. The walls seemed as if they were constructed from the magic itself. Every Magically raised student could feel the sheer power of the castle. As they passed through the lake on front of the castle, a giant tentacle reached out of the lake and threw a student off his boat nearly 150 meters ahead of them(492 feet). The boat sped up, seeming to add urgency to their movement. As the boats approached the student, Sirius and James realized it was the boy they had deemed Snivellus. As their boat neared the boy, James yelled "Enjoy your bath, Snivellus? Shame it didn't get rid of your grease though. But, then again, that might have turned the lake all greasy, and killed everything in it!" Sirius hooted with laughter, as others around them laughed. "You leave him alone you-you-you toerag!" The girl from the train yelled. "Oh, sod off! Why do you care about him anyway?" "Because I'm his friend, you git!" "Wow, she's annoying." James muttered out of the side of his mouth. "Tell me about it mate. Does she not know how to have fun?" Sirius replied. The rest of the boat ride went uneventfully, other than Snivellus and his friend glaring at him and Sirius the rest of the way to the school. As they left the boat, they were met at the great doors by a stern looking women. "Thank you, Hagrid. I will take them from here." "No problem, Mcgonagall." The man named Hagrid said. As they were led through several corridors by Mcgonagall, there was some silent chatter, however, James and his friends stayed silent. "Welcome to Hogwarts," said McGonagall. "The start-of-term banquet will begin shortly, but before you take your seats in the Great Hall, you will be sorted into your houses. The Sorting is a very important ceremony because, while you are here, your house will be something like your family within Hogwarts. You will have classes with the rest of your house, sleep in your house dormitory and spend free time in your house common room. The four houses are called Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Each house has its own noble history and each has produced outstanding witches and wizards. While you are at Hogwarts, your triumphs will earn your house points, while any rule-breaking will lose house points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the House Cup, a great honour. I hope each of you will be a credit to whichever house becomes yours. 'The Sorting Ceremony will take place in a few minutes in front of the rest of the school. I suggest you all smarten yourselves up as much as you can while you are waiting." "They really take this stuff mely, don't you think guys?" "It's too early in our time here for you to be making these jokes, Sirius." Remus replied. "Abbot, John!" A voice shouted. A small mousey boy moved forward, and after 20 seconds, the voice spoke once more "HUFFLEPUFF!" After James zoned out for a little bit when the voice shouted "Black, Sirius!" James peeked out through the doors, and saw Sirius striding down the alley between the tables. After one and a half minutes, James heard "GRYFFINDOR!" and shocked gasps and muttering around the Great Hall. He proceeded to zone out for a few more minutes, when he heard the name "Evans, Lily!" he was ready to zone out again when he heard that, but then he saw that it was the girl from the boat. 'Well Evans, I hope you go to Sly-" "GRYFFINDOR!" "Oh merlin." He muttered. He zoned out again till Remus said "Well, good luck mate." And strode out through the doors. Half a minute later, he heard "GRYFFINDOR!" 'Well, here come my turn.' He waited for a few minutes when it finally came time for his name to be called. "Potter, James!" He strode down the thin path, and projected an air of arrogance, and uncaring. He sat on the stool, and had a hat placed on his head. 'Well Potter. You could do well in Slytherin, so I might just put you there.' 'Please just put me with my friends, please jus- Wait are you talking to me?' 'Yes I am indeed.' 'Now, I assume that you want to be with your friends in Gryffindor?' 'Yes please.' 'Very well then.' 'It shall be' "GRYFFINDOR!" James strode over to the table clad in Red and Scarlet, plopping down next to his mates. "Congrats lads! We're all in Gryffindor!" They ignored him just stuffing their faces, as he did the same. The feast flew by, with James ignoring all other things but food. The prefects led them to the dormitory, and James ignored all but his bed, collapsing into sleep.
That took forever for me to write, so please read and review, it means the world to me, and I obviously don't own the Potterverse or anything in it.
