"Ugh, this job is sooooo boring!" Himoko yawned. Dabi and Shigaraki are supposed to cause mayhem again. Where's the excitement, the heart-pounding brawl? Toga wants a bloodthirsty mission, not repetitive junk. "He's gonna have to change strategy sometime if he wants to destroy All Might."
.
Nomu rampage through the city. It's the grand opening to a stunning garden –one to relax civilians' nerves.
Hah. How pathetic. What's life without some chaos?
.
Heroes are dispatched. Himoko quickly follows orders. A pillar falls on top of her lower body. Crying, Toga calls for help. The blood she consumed earlier erases any pain. Instead she's super agile and durable. Perfect for a trap.
Two heroes arrive. They're vaguely recognizable. Students from UA. LOV had gone over statistics from every staff and student.
Iida is flying gracefully. He's in a martial arts ballet with the Nomu while a girl searches for civilians.
.
Toga could've sapped Ochaco's blood in a second. She would've flopped over, dead.
But something stopped Himoko. The LOV recruit is captivated by Uravity's adorable beauty.
Silky almond hair, cheeks like soft flower petals, a voice charming –soft as a flute's chipper song.
.
"I'll save you!" Ochaco lifts the heavy stone pillar with an arm. She carries Toga in her arms and runs to a place away from battle and flying debris.
"Wow," Distracted, she forgets her mission for a moment. "You're really strong!"
"Oh, it's nothing! My quirk is about gravity, not physical strength. Are you okay?"
.
"Totally! My quirk kept me from being crushed."
"That's a relief!" Uraraka sighed. "I have to help my friend. Go to the exit and follow Froppy to a safe distance, okay? She's evacuating other civilians!"
.
Ignoring the ruins around her, Toga fled. Wandering through the city in perplexity she returns to headquarters. That girl sticks in her mind like an aromatic perfume.
Shigaraki is pissed. He impatiently paces back and forth, scratching his neck. "You didn't get any hero blood! I know I couldn't count on you!"
.
Toga still has a smile glued to her face. Nonchalantly she shrugged. "So what? You succeeded anyway."
"Useless! I can't stand such-"
"Why not just kidnap heroes instead?"
"What?!"
.
"She has a point," Dabi agreed. "If we get heroes to fight for us…"
"Who do you suggest then? Hm? Heroes are frustratingly stubborn about their ideals." So are villains. "Brainwashing them or convincing them to join will take too long."
.
"How about Midoriya? That'd be a guy who can outmatch anyone, a worthy ally to our cause. It'd give Pro Heroes a fatal blow to morale if someone as strong as him worked for us."
"Kaminari perhaps?" Kurogiri suggested. "His power isn't all that impressive but…"
"Hey, where are you going?"
Toga's bored of their petty disputes. What is this, prom? "Out. When you figure out a plan I'll be back."
The door shut, leaving the small band of LOV to deal with a restless, moody Shigaraki.
.
Ochaco dropped her bags. Vegetables, drinks, and packages bounce on concrete. The streets are barren this late at night. Cold metal hovers just above her neck. Minty metallic breath wafts onto her skin. Giggling, Toga steps out from the shadows. "Hi! Remember me?"
"Y-You're that girl that I-"
"Rescued me! Yes. We have to talk a little, okay? Great!"
Should she use her anti-gravity quirk? It's too risky. Who knows what weapons this girl has equipped? Or what her quirk is.
.
"I'm sorry about your food! I'll buy some for you."
This is unbelievable. Toga is talking so casually as if to an old friend, not a hostage. The two sat on a park bench.
.
Out of nowhere, Toga tells Uraraka that she has a crush on her.
"C-Crush, but how?!"
"Uh-huh. I really, really like you!"
"But we just met today."
"So? I think you and I would make an awesome couple!" Toga whispered, laughing.
.
This is insane. Himoko is insane. Dangerous too. It reminds Uraraka of the guy attached to Izuku at the mall a few weeks before.
Sensing no threat, Himoko withdraws her knife and twirls it. "Have you ever thought of being a villain?"
.
"What?! Of course not! I want to be a hero!"
"Really?" Toga pouted. "That's so boring! More rules to follow, less fun! Being a villain has more freedom."
"Until the heroes arrest them."
"If we get caught."
.
Ochaco crossed her arms. "I'd never be a villain. Unlike you guys my friends are reliable and cool!"
"But they make sacrifices too. You'd always have to worry about public image as a hero. Everything from money to power is given, and can be snatched away from heroes. Us villains go out and obtain our own justice."
.
Blinking, Uraraka realized Himoko has a point. "Still I don't agree with the villain code, or lack of one."
Toga laughed. "As a villain you make your own rules!"
"Sorry, I won't."
"Not even for all the roses and chocolate in the world?!"
Ochaco shakes her head and blushes. "No!"
"Aw. I'll convince you someday to be a villain!"
.
And she's gone. Ochaco doesn't know how to process the encounter. If that's how villains are recruiting nowadays –it's tactfully bizarre! Bold and reckless. On her way home Uraraka couldn't stop considering Toga's offer. Is it really worth it to become a hero?
.
She'd lose all her friends. There'd be nowhere for her to go. 'I'm learning so much at UA and my quirk is getting stronger because of that.' So what if there are a lot of requirements and rules to follow? That's how society stays peaceful.
.
Uraraka stops walking. Every individual has their own values. Valid ones. Ones that they fight for every day. Vigilantes are an example. Castaways still fighting for justice, but in their own way.
No. Being a villain or vigilante is wrong!
Ochaco is training to save people, not hurt them!
She sighed dejectedly. "Now I'm starting to act like Izuku…"
.
Ochaco staggered incredulously. On her doorstep is a bloody wallet. She finds a note stored inside among cash.
'I found –well no. I stabbed this guy for his wallet. He wasn't a civilian or hero, promise! I saw him trying to rob a bank. This is to pay for all the food you lost.
-T.H'
Uraraka couldn't stifle a laugh. It was somewhat charming, yet also comical. What Himoko did can't be horrible if the guy is a criminal, right?
.
"Are you okay?" Iida asked a distracted Ochaco. She hardly ever spaced out during study groups. "Huh?" Blinking, she returned to reality. Her friends stare in concern.
.
"To me it looks like you're thinking about someone…"
"W-What?! That's impossible, Tsu!" Uraraka jumped up like a cat splashed by water.
"But your reaction says otherwise." Iida said.
"Let's just get back to work," Midoriya interjected. "We have an exam soon."
"Right. We have to put all our effort into this." She sat back down and got lost in books at the table, writing notes that compete against Izuku's speed and accuracy.
.
Over the past few months Himoko has planted gifts for Ochaco. Short letters, sparkling trinkets, stolen and expensive cosmetics. Uraraka crafted hand-made gifts for Toga, the girl admiring each one. The pair would even go on dates. Small simple dates. Toga promised to not cause too much trouble, instead listening to everything Uraraka said. Their upbeat personalities matched perfectly.
.
Himoko's words keep establishing doubts. Being a hero is a lot of pressure. 'All I want is to help my family.' It'd take forever to obtain a Pro Hero License. The test is stressful mentally and physically. Rescuing others is really amazing. But not everyone can be saved. It's just fact. The potential responsibility –the inevitability of failure weighs heavily on Uraraka. 'Am I really hero material?'
Izuku studied her from across the table. Nothing is secret under his profound perception.
.
After training, Ochaco stealthily packed up and left. Everybody was too tired to acknowledge her absence –including Aizawa. With her quirk she swiftly exits UA grounds. Every step taken is painful. Her heart breaks from leaving such wonderful friends behind. But Uraraka can't ignore her instincts pulling her in a definite direction.
.
Outside, a voice called her name. She turns to face Izuku. Tears fall down his chin as he cries. "A-Are you really leaving UA?"
Dismay bleeds onto her expression. "Yes."
.
Midoriya jumps into her arms. His hold is identical to Kirishima's strength! "Is there anything I can say to change your mind?"
"Sorry Deku," A sad, faint smile. She brushed her fingers sympathetically through his fluffy green locks. "I don't think I can be a Pro Hero."
.
Emerald eyes shine miserably. "What're you going to do?"
"I'm going to be a vigilante. Fight for justice –in my own way."
He wiped his tears away. Seriousness sets his features somber. "I'll miss you. Our friends will too."
"I know. When there's time can you tell them? I cherish them so much!"
Izuku nodded. "Yes, of course."
"Thank you. I'll never forget you, Izuku."
Departing, Uraraka sprinted to a familiar bench in the city.
.
Marigold eyes flash joyfully when they meet chocolate brown. Himoko hugged Uraraka, who spun her around.
They both abandoned UA and LOV for each other. It's a daring, dangerous move.
Sweet rose and fizzy citrus scents flood their senses.
.
Toga grinned, holding Uraraka's hand. Her fangs glow under scorching sunlight. "I've found a perfect hideout for us! It's really pretty!"
Laughing, Ochaco walks beside her lover. "It'll be exciting. Do you think I'll be a good vigilante?"
Himoko has a bounce in her step. Her motions are energetic and lively. "Duh, of course! We'll show those lame heroes and villains that we're unrelentingly powerful!"
A dazzling smile adorns Uraraka's face. "I can't wait to spend my life with you."
