"You have to trust me," Lydia said, dragging Stiles up the stairs of their shared townhouse. "You're going to like this one. I promise."
That had been what his girlfriend of three had said to him with all the other costumes she'd brought home. He'd not liked a single one of them. What made her think this one would be any different?
"Lydia," Stiles whined, letting out a loud sigh.
"At least see what it is before you say no," she said, a sad look crossing her face. He hated when used the sad face against him. She knew she could anything she asked from him if she used the sad face. "It's a couples costume."
Stiles could feel the color drain from his face. The last couple's costumes she'd insisted on them wearing consisted of too much makeup and wearing an outfit that was far too out of date. Like hundred of years out of date. She'd insisted that they host their annual Halloween party as Louis VI and Marie Antoinette returned from the dead. Hence the fake blood and stitches to make it look like the former king and queen had sewn their heads back on. Or had their heads sewn back on. Royalty didn't sew, did they?
"This isn't going to be like the Marie Antoinette and Louis VI incident," Lydia said, her lower lip jutting out a bit.
Oh no! She going for his other weakness in regards to her. The pouty face. If the sad face didn't work then the pouty face usually won the day.
"Okay," he said, giving in. He knew it was better to give and not fight. Plus she was using her pouty face to its full potential. "But if I have to have fake blood spread all over me I'm not wearing it."
"You won't."
She pulled him into their shared room closing the door behind them. Who knew when Scott and Malia would return from whatever they were doing? She lead Stiles over to where she'd laid out the costumes in question.
He looked from the costume to Lydia back to the costume and then back to Lydia. He hadn't thought she was serious about dressing up as them for Halloween. A huge smile broke his face as he nodded.
"I definitely like these costumes better than any of the other ones you brought home," he told her, looking at her Harley Quinn costumes sitting next to his Joker one. "I thought you'd been kidding when you said we could dress up as them after seeing Suicide Squad."
"Well," she said, pretending to think about something for a minute, "I did say that if you dressed up as Louis VI I'd dress up as Harley Quinn next year."
She had said that. He remembered vividly. In fact, he'd dreamed of it ever since she'd said it. But now he was going to get to see it in real life.
"In fact, why don't you try on your costume now?" he asked, trying to offhand about it and more than likely failing miserably.
"You'll see it at the party," she said, handing him his costume with a teasing smirk on her lips. "After all, anticipation is what makes things more exciting, right?"
"Right," Stiles said as she led him towards the door.
Stiles knew one thing for sure. That being that this was going to be the best Halloween night they ever shared together.
I hope you all enjoyed The Right One as much as I enjoyed writing it.
