The pitter-patter of the rain was sleep-inducing; the warm crackling flames of the fireplace were warm like a blanket, and yet, she couldn't feel any of those. She was tired but sleep wouldn't come, she craved the feeling of warmth but there was nothing but the cold gust of air that seeped from the tiniest crack of the glass window.
Calypso watched herself in the mirror. Her golden locks fell down her shoulders to her waist. It was so different from everyone else's but he loved it. He loved everything about her but it confused her so much. Why her? Why did he choose her? Was it because of her family? The kingdom? The wealth? Power and fame?
Calypso didn't know and she hated it.
"You're wondering why I chose you?.." a warm voice cut in.
Calypso shivered from his voice; a voice most called kind and warm, but all she felt was ice. It was like he always mocked her whenever he spoke. His voice was so warm that it disgusted her.
"There's really only one answer," he whispered. "Would you like to know?"
She could feel him grin as if he was merely humoring her - a small child.
He stepped closer and she stiffened. She could feel the heat radiating from his body connect with hers. But why was it warm? Was it because she was cold? Calypso didn't know.
"...Why?" she finally answered.
"Because…" he gently played with her hair. "I…"
Calypso's breath bitched as she felt him land a kiss on her head. She felt him play with her hair, rolling her golden locks between his fingers like she was a doll, his doll.
She felt him lean in; his breath sending shivers down her back. He was about to speak but stopped.
"Dinner should be ready, shall I-"
She didn't know why but she stopped him. His wrist was warm, it wasn't cold at all; it was so different from before.
"Why?" Calypso mumbled.
"Why?" he smiled.
She could feel his gaze on her. Should she return it? Gaze into his onyx black eyes that seemed to follow her everywhere she went. Before she could decide for herself he gently grasped her chin.
Calypso flinched.
He stopped.
Silence filled the room. Her breath quickened. Had she messed up? Did she anger him? Calypso closed her eyes shut and waited, waiting for him to yell like her father. Instead, the wood creaked and this time she looked.
He was kneeling, kneeling for her.
"It's cause I love you," he smiled softly. It was so different from that devilish smirk of his, or that rogue grin that he sported whenever he was in the training pit.
Calypso's heart stopped.
"I love you, my dear Calypso," he said barely above a whisper.
She watched him lean in, she watched him draw her close and she didn't stop. All she could do was listen to her heart throb as their lips slowly - so slow that it frustrated and scared her at the same time - connected.
"It's cause I love you, my love," he whispered to her lips.
Then his lips touched hers,
It was then that she finally felt warm, but not from the flames of the fire, but from this man before her. This man who confused her beyond belief. This man who would smirk in her direction as if he was taunting her. This man who made her feel like a puppet, a doll, a prized possession.
"Really?" she mumbled quickly, backing out of the kiss. It surprised her that she missed his lips but she needed to know.
"Yes, and I wish to one day hear it from you."
