Calem opened his eyes to see nothing had changed. Even with his mom and her moving to a new region, he felt his life had been bland and monotonous. He was about to make breakfast when he heard a knock at the door.

"Ugh…who could that be?...It's 9:00 AM…." Calem opened the door to see a girl, with dirty blonde hair at his door. She was wearing a grey tank top and a red skirt. "Um…hello. You must be…Calem, yes! I'm Serena, an assistant to Professor Sycamore. My mother told me we had new neighbors from Johto…so what was it like?"

Calem sighed. "Plain…boring…" he muttered. Serena giggled at his remark. "You're kinda funny! Wait.." Serena checked her watch. She was going to be late to meet her friends. "Oh no! As much as I'd love to continue the conversation, I have to hurry! Bye!" she said as she ran out the door, leaving it open.

Calem was left curious, so he decided to follow her, just to make sure she was okay, but unfortunately, that wasn't the case. He saw Serena being chased by three Pokemon he had never seen before; a Fletchling, a Bunnelby, and a Scatterbug. "Please help!" she cried. "In my purse, there should be three Pokemon! Throw one out and save me!"

Calem knew it wasn't polite to look into women's purses, but if he had to, he would. He closed his eyes and stuck his hand into the hot pink purse and pulled out a PokeBall. He threw it out and out popped a light blue frog with a foamy white collar of sorts around its neck. The three Pokemon were drawn away from Serena as they heard the PokeBall being opened.

"Thank goodness, now call out one of Froakie's attacks!" she called to Calem. "Right!" Calem stuttered as he thought of one of Froakie's moves. "I got it! Froakie, use Pound!" Froakie leapt into the air and ground-pounded the Bunnelby, knocking it out. Fletchling tried to attack, but it could only let out a twitter.

"Froakie! Pound again!" Calem called, as the Bubble Frog Pokemon ground-pounded the Fletchling. Bunnelby was about to attack Froakie, but it was too late, as it ground-pounded Scatterbug without Calem telling it to. Serena was amazed.

"Heh…not bad for an amateur." she said to herself before blushing. She picked up her purse, as Calem returned Froakie back to its Pokeball. "I'm sorry if I caused you any trouble," she apologized. "It's fine," Calem laughed, "Here. You can have it back if you need it," he said as he gave Serena Froakie's PokeBall.

"Actually, I have something else in mind. Come with me!" Serena grabbed Calem's wrist and ran to Aquacorde Town, where Professor Sycamore stationed his new lab.

Now Professor Sycamore was a kind, honest man. He wanted to give new Trainers a good first impression. He had finished up a book on Mega Evolution when Serena burst in, still dragging Calem. She let go as Calem stumbled and fell. "Oh my! Are you okay? I'm sorry!"

Calem could only laugh. "Yeeah, I'm fine. Just remember next time not to launch me like I'm on a slingshot." Professor Sycamore chuckled. "Ah, so Serena found a boy…friend."

Serena grew red in the face. "No! It's not what it looks like! I swear!" she tried to reassure, as Professor Sycamore chuckled. "Ah, it's nothing to worry about. So….I heard through the grapevine you got rescued by this boy." Calem nodded. "Well, color me impressed. You know what…that Froakie you used…you can keep him, consider it a gift for your troubles."

Calem was ecstatic. "Oh, thank you! I've always wanted to be a Pokemon Trainer! I never had the chance to be one when my tenth birthday rolled around! Now that half a decade's past, I finally have the opportunity!"

Professor Sycamore also gave him a strange device. It looked like a mix between the Rotom Phones used in Galar and Paldea, and the Pokedex used in Unova. "I also want you to have this. It's a Pokedex, the latest model too! It's a high tech encyclopedia of all the Pokemon you've encountered!" He also gave out a few PokeBalls and Potions. "Now, don't be spending them in one area," he teased. Calem laughed. "I won't, Professor."

He and Serena left, as Professor Sycamore grabbed one of the PokeBalls out of Serena's purse for another trainer to use for their starter. As they walked together, Serena thought to herself as Professor Sycamore's words circled around her.
