Mike caught me in the parking lot.

Jessie had to leave early for the dentist, so I was giving him a ride. Her parents had started picking them both up now that the weather was getting bad.

We were waiting for Dad to arrive.

"You're going to the dance, right?" Mike asked.

"Yeah. Jessie and I are going dress shopping soon."

"Thanks," Mike said.

"For what?" I asked.

"Jessie told me you encouraged her to ask me out." Mike blushed.

"I did. I was tired of hearing about how great Mike was. I thought if she asked you out, she might finally see the troll under the bridge."

Mike swatted my arm. "No. I really like her. I just didn't think she would ever… like me back."

"You need to make sure to buy Jessie flowers for the dance. Her dress is likely gonna be purple, she decided on her theme already."

Mike pretended to be writing notes and thanked me again.

"Any time," I said. "I am happy for you two."

Dad pulled in.

"Oh, you owe me a Cherry Coke for the match making services," I said.

"Absolutely, anything for your hard work."
