Another day, another buck ain't it, Currently Connie was preparing for her afternoon show, she had to look stunning or else her boss Lars Barriga would have her ass.
Connie stood in-front of her dressing rooms mirror, styling her hair, putting make up on, she had to change everything about her. This isn't me, this isn't the type of singing I wanted to do, She thought.
Any mobster would say she looked like the perfect toy at the moment. Connie was wearing red heels with a tight red dress to show off all her curbs, her hair was done in a ponytail, and her makeup left her dazzling. She was the star of the show all the mobsters would come just for her, she had a voice of an angel they would all say.
"That should do it," she said finishing her eye shadow, Connie did a final twirl in-front of the Mirror. She looked at her reflection and grinned while shooting finger guns at her self, "looking good tiger, go get 'em," she said to no one in particular.
"Ya look stunning Connie," someone called out, "when do I not Sadie," Connie replied, Connie turned towards her dressing room door, there stood her best friend Sadie Miller. Sadie and Connie have gone through thick and thin, they've had each other's backs in this crime filled world, the two girl bosses looked out for each other no matter what.
"How's it looking out there?" Connie asked in her Brooklyn accent, "just a couple mobster, no one big," Sadie assured. "Good, hopefully it'll be a clean show, we don't need another shoot out like last time," Connie hoped, "just stay on your toes Con, if you see any danger run, I don't need a bullet in my best friend's head," Sadie said in concern. "Don't worry bout it Sadie, I know," Connie smiled in reassurance, "Well i'll be heading out now, go get em tiger." Saying her good bye's Sadie left closing the door behind her, leaving Connie alone.
Connie looked at her reflection one last time, just bare with it a little more Connie, you'll get out of this city just a few more months of saving, she thought.
Connie was ready more than ready, it's just another day. Grabbing her purse and telephone she headed out her room glancing into to the dressing room one last time Connie turned off the lights and shut the door behind her.
Walking the back stage hallway Connie could here the band playing before her, they were a band of 4 men specializing in playing jazz for the bar. Connie always thought they sounded amazing, she wanted to sound as good as them.
Connie's love for singing had slowly died, her mother had always encouraged her singing courier she wanted to sing for the world change, and help people with her music. However, Connie wasn't able to reach that dream, unfortunately she was left to sing for them.
At the stage, the band had finished there performance, the host made his way on stage. "Thank you! Thank you!" The host called, "that was blink 182 with their performance of 'Dude ranch'. Next up, give it up to Connie Dews!" Just like he told me, never mention your real name. The host made his way of the stage, Connie got into place She stood behind the red curtains ready for her performance.
The red curtains slowly opened revealing Connie in all her glory, Connie now had a view of the place and it's visitors. The crowd was around fifty, a bit more than usual. Connie would be lying if she said she wasn't nervous, but her fathers words rang in her head. Show no fear, fear is what they use to manipulate and use you.
"Good evening Beach Empire!" Connie said with a fake smile, "my now what a splendid crowd we have ourselves tonight." She than picked a random man from the crowd and blew them a flying kiss, "my look at you handsome." Whatever gets me my pay I'll do it.
Connie was about to announce her performance,
"Tonight, I'll be performing 'Un-Break My Heart' by the lovely Toni Brax-" before being cut off. "Ah, the beautiful Connie Dews! glad we weren't too late for your performance," someone with a heavy Brooklyn accent interrupted her. The door had swung open followed by heavy footsteps, Connie had already recognized that voice everyone knew who it was.
The crowd had made room for the man to pass trough, in the middle of the bar was an empty table perfectly set for big shots. Making his way through Connie's assumption had been correct, the man who had entered the bar was no other than Bill Dewey. Bill Dewey had made truces with the crystal gems, they gave him money and power for his work in trade and weapons. Simply put he was important, mess with him and you won't see the end of it.
Shit what's he doing here? this bars too small to get his attention, I already knew Lars was working with them but why would he be here, of all nights to be working just my luck. Connie internally groaned.
"Well, well, well if it isn't gorgeous himself Don Dewey," Put on an act. "As I was saying, Tonight I'll be performing 'Un-Break My Heart' by the lovely Toni Brax-" but what if that act breaks.
"Well sweetheart, aren't you gonna introduce little old me," a dark chuckle followed. Connie quickly spun her head behind her, she watched Satan himself emerge from the red curtains. "D-Don U-Universe," Connie stammered. Steven slowly walked towards Connie a smirk on his face, once standing face to face Connie realized how tall he really was. Steven stood three feet taller than Connie, and she was already five foot nine.
Connie had never met the Don himself, but she'd heard enough to know that she never wanted to meet him anyways. Already three feet taller, he had a black suit and vest topped off with a fedora on top. His suit still showed how big and muscular his arms and body was, he was big and broad which only added more to how intimidating he already was. His eyes made you wilt under his gaze, pink eyes with black diamond irises. They could make you melt on the spot.
"Well sweetheart?" He asked, "y-yes of course... welcome our lovely D-Don Universe." The crowd gave fake cheers, the tension in the air was high everyone could feel it. Steven continued to stare Connie down, Connie had to look anywhere else she couldn't bare the pressure of looking into his eyes. "Look at me sweetheart," he asked coldly. Connie hesitantly looked up, Steven continued staring her down it seemed he was studying her. Connie's heart was racing she was terrified, she was now in his control.
What felt like hours finally ended when he decided to look away, "can't wait for the performance sweetheart," he gave Connie a wink and walked off stage towards Don Dewey. Connie watched him sit down next to the other Don, Don Dewey began whispering towards Steven but it seemed he wasn't paying attention, all his attention was on Connie, his eyes never left her.
He was staring at his property.
All his attention was on what was his.
This night is about to be hell,
Connie thought.
