Chapter 1: Don't worry! I will help you.
Blinking her eyes repeatedly, she was greeted by the strong light, it was so bright that make the girl uncomfortable. And so, for a few seconds, her one objective was to get used to the new environment. Fortunately, it didn't take long for her to finally be able to see where she was.
"... where am I?"
Amidst an endless stream of people on a busy street, the figure of the girl stood out in the sea of people. She with her long silver hair and predominantly black clothes made it easy to atract the attention of passersby.
It was really busy, a natural thing for a big city, stretching as far as the eye could see. In the distance, she noticed a majestic and striking castle. it was majestic to most people, yet she didn't look impressed. The number of people was much more impressive, although it was a little difficult to get around.
"Come, come, children, come closer!"
The excited voice of a man playing the jester caught her attention. He was on some kind of stage with his arms outstretched and a smile plastered on his face. He called everyone he could, and so the children and even the adults were engaged to participating. For her were not different, then with a hand on her chest she also approached.
"Today" said the jester. "... You will see a story, about three heroes."
Suddenly, three puppets dramatically descended to the center of the stage. The said three heroes who saved the world: The sword saint, Reid Astrea. The great sage that everyone knows next to nothing, even so, a worthy hero. And finally, the divine dragon, the one who until today helps the kingdom to prosper.
Everyone was happy to hear the three heroes talk about themselves and their deeds, especially the children. "Know, my little ones, they were responsible for the existence of the world as we know it."
At this, some of the younger children looked confused by the jester's words. What did he mean?
"That's right, believe me." The younger children listened in fear as the man theatrically made a sad, remorseful face.
"One day a witch, evil and selfish, decided to end everyone's happiness..." Suddenly, one last puppet, that of a hideous old witch with silver hair and large amethyst eyes appeared in the center of the wooden stage.
Frowning, the girl left the place, leaving the man's voice behind. She sighed because it all seemed so silly to watch that something else caught her eye: a sign for a large establishment.
bothered, she tried to leave the middle of the street, reaching the sidewalk in front of that establishment.
"..."
The sound of the bells rang as the girl entered an establishment common in this town. There were several tables where people were eating. She thought it was some kind of tavern. Unscrupulously she went to the counter, where there was an old man of short stature, with his back to the entrance, he didn't notice her until she reached his ears with her voice.
"... hello…?"
Although the place was a little noisy from the people at their tables, the girl's voice still managed to get the old man's attention, who quickly turned around drying a glass. At first, he seemed nonchalant, but when the sound of breaking glass on the floor sounded through the room, he exclaimed, "An elf...!? h-half elf!"
A half elf…."Yes, I am half elf." Interestingly, although she didn't know why she declared herself as "half elf" with so strong conviction in her words. It just felt right for her to confirm her race. She knew that she was definitely a half elf.
"What do you want?!"
The half-elf heard a new voice, a voice that belonged to a tall, brown-haired man who wore a bandanna tied around his head. Hostile look directed at her figure. She noticed as if she couldn't when the man was looking at her so intently. Still, the question needed to be asked.
"Do you know, where exactly am I?"
…
"Are you kidding me or what!?"
"…I'm not."
Certainly, her presence was not wanted in this place. The hostile stare and the deafening silence were unsettling, and said everything she needed to know.
"You're in Taurus bar."
"No, I meant the City."
The man looked at her dumbfoundedly.
"You're in the capital city of Lugunica, but everyone should know this, half-elf. Are you by any chance running away? I could call the guards right here and right now…"
She visibly shrunk herself at the man's tone, and from what his expression said, his words didn't just seem like empty threats, but really ones. But still call the guards, for her? Were half-elves forbidden to enter here? If so…
"No." If she wasn't welcome here, then she would just leave. Simple as that.
…
When the ambient sounds of the noisy city reached her pointy ears once more, she couldn't help but sigh. She didn't exactly have a plan, but a sense of failure took over her mind.
"Maybe somewhere else…"
Alone among a crowd of people, she continued aimlessly through the city. She didn't know how much time had passed, but no more than an hour. The sun was still high in the sky that was stark blue that ran from end to end across the horizon.
She was now in the middle of a market, that was a place, bustling with activity that was far too crowded for her liking. There were stalls and shops full of customers and merchants, children playing in the middle of the street, and everything you would expect in an area like this.
However, she was alone despite being surrounded by people. It was then that she noticed her loneliness, and it was such a bad thing, and the more she looked at everything and everyone, it's more this feeling increasingly settles in her core. She felt a lack of meaning in all her quests and actions. There was no one waiting for her, and nowhere to really go.
After all, what was she supposed to do? Why was I brought here in the first place!?
She wasn't much for questioning, from what little she knew of herself, but she couldn't help but ask herself the same questions over and over again: Why am I here…? How did I get here…? I… should I be here?
There was no explanation for most, if not all, of her questions. Thinking about it, she didn't even notice when she stopped walking in the middle of the busy street. Entering in deep thought, a terrifying realization came to her mind. "I don't know who I am…"
She didn't know who she was. It was as if her life was a blank slate, there were no dreams or desires, stories and memories. She didn't even know her own name.
"...What is my name?" Still standing in the middle of the street, she forced herself to remember. A thumb on the chin and a serious look of determination. A name is an important thing in anyone's life. Everyone should have a name, so she should have one too.
She could feel the answer, for more strange it seems, was almost on the tip of her tongue; unlike all her other questions that seemed distant and difficult to answer. For some reason, she felt like she could remember if she struggled with it, so she ignored everyone and everything.
The sea of people no longer mattered, not even the clatter of bells ringing in the distance somewhere in the city, or the screeching of dragons pulling carriages; everything was irrelevant now. She's never been more focused on something than she is now.
"My name… is…"
The sight of someone standing in the middle of the street, muttering something to themselves was sure to attract the attention of those passing by, luckily no one seemed interested enough to interrupt the half-elf.
"What was it… it was…!"
Amidst the girl's almost incomprehensible murmurs, for some reason, she bent down and squatted down. Strange. Someone thought. But still, she withboth her hands over her head, frowning. She decided that this way was supposed to be easier for her to find out her name.
Should she be able to remember it? She didn't know, but still, she tried it. That's because she felt it was important for her, nothing would annoy her at this moment. It was unacceptable that she didn't. She should at least remember her name… and If not for her, for him… Then something clicked in her mind. I'm "Satel—"
"SATELLA"
Understandably she widened her amethyst eyes. She remembered her name, her name was… "Satella that's what my name is—"
"SATELLLA"
Surprise plastered across her face, she was glad she at least remembered her name, but that wasn't exactly it. When the figure of a black-haired boy became visible in her field of vision, the reason became clearer.
"I'm sorry I couldn't advise you. I ran and didn't find you, it's all my fault!" The breathless and really desperate boy declared. "For that, I'm sorry Satella!"
… Huh? The girl said before staring at him continuously for a few seconds in silence. "Who are you—"
Only to be interrupted by curses aimed at the boy.
"Hey boy! That was uncalled for! It went too far!"
"Bloody bastard!"
"Aren't you ashamed, man?"
It was a crowd that was gathering more and more, a few feet away from him. All of them throwing daggers towards him.
"HUH?" ... what's going on? Confused, and perplexed beyond words, he directs his gaze to the girl as if asking for help.
Fortunately, she seemed to understand this quickly. "...Come with me." exclamed her. Pulling him by the hand, the pair left the region. Still listening to the murmurs of the population, he still questioning himself about what just happened. It did his screams attract that much attention?
A few more steps away and the pair had already turned the corner of the street. The boy looked really impatient as she grabbed his slender arm. "I…Satella..."
Looking embarrassed he looked her in the eye. "I'm sorry, it's all my fault... I wasn't fast enough to...!?"
Facing him, the girl's amethyst eyes stared into the boy's. For some reason, a feeling of melancholy enveloped her more than himself who was disappointed. "...What is wrong!?" He exclaimed, really confused by her actions.
"I-I know you, don't I?" So she said as trails of tears ran down her whitened cheeks, catching him once again by surprise. "Subaru..."
"W-What do you mean!? Why are you crying!? D-Did I do something wrong…?" The girl didn't respond with words, just shaking her head in denial.
"No? Then why?" He approached trying to comfort her. "It's about your insignia, isn't it? If so, don't worry, we'll be able to get it back!" he said with strong conviction.
"Insignia?" She sniffed looking at him. And unfortunately the girl looked more confused than anything.
"No. It's just that…I just feel like I can trust you…" Wiping her face, she smiled at him.
"... Wait, is that so? Trust me is so bad it makes you cry?"
"Sorry…I-I don't know... I lost my memory, I don't remember anything about you and even me..."
...
It was official, the boy was panicking, it couldn't have gotten any worse. First they were attacked in the loot house by an assassin, and he pathetically failed to help her. Later he discovers that Satella not only failed in her 'quest' to recover her insignia but lost all her memories as well.
"And so... Satella, but you just called me by my name, how can you say that?" She's not kidding me after seeing how pathetic I was, is she...?
No! She's not that kind of person, I see that after all she's done for me! For now I will just to hear her.
"It just seems right to call you like this. A-And I'm not lying if that's what you think, I swear."
The girl looked at the floor, just like him. His mind seemed lost in thought. But something came to his mind, or better someone: "Puck...Do you remember him? Your father, I mean..."
"My father...? N-No, I-I can't remember P-Puck, my father..." She paused for a few seconds looking the boy directly in the eyes, her tears had already stopped flowing. It seemed that resignation had taken hold of the girl, and she had accepted that her memories had been lost. It was no use standing here wallowing in sadness.
"Please, I don't know if it's too much to ask, but I feel like I can trust you. And I know that if there's anyone who can help me, it's you...I need your help, can you help me?"
The boy had a pitying look on his face, she clearly is not lying, he can assure it by him trust on her. Satella didn't deserve this. Feeling sympathy looking at her hopeful face, the boy reinforced his decision, he would definitely help her.
Smiling to try to cheer her up, he took the first step towards building his relationship with Satella who had forgotten about him once again.
With a ridiculous pose, he pointed to the sky while swivelling his hips. Catching her attention, she watched in anticipation. "Don't worry! I will help you. If you don't remember me, my name is Natsuki Subaru! I'm lost broke and completely clueless beyond comparison! But don't worry, my beautiful lady." His finger pointed at her, startling her. "I will be here by your side to humbly help you!"
"Ah...Natsuki Subaru..." Despite how ridiculous it was, the girl didn't exactly burst out laughing or anything. Which doesn't mean she didn't find it funny. It was just that a smile was sufficient enough to show her satisfaction, the half-elf seemed simply satisfied with it.
She could definitely trust him! To trust in Natsuki Subaru.
"Nice to meet you Natsuki Subaru! And my name is Satella, and like you, I'm too completely clueless beyond compare! Then I will have no choice but to accept your help. Thank you handsome boy!" She ended up pointing to the sky and copying the boy's equally ridiculous pose pointing towards him.
"Subaru? Was it?"
Subaru looked at the girl's disbelief as if she was an alien or something. For some reason, a red hue covered his cheeks.
"Huh? Subaru…?" Oblivious to how Subaru felt. She tried to get closer.
With a fake cough, he caught her attention stopping her in place. "Satella. Something very important needs to be resolved. I'm right in assuming you don't remember how to call Puck, do you?"
"Yeah, I have no idea. Is he really my father? What's he like? Does he have silver hair too?"
"Huh? No, but it's more like fur or something... Well, forget about it for now... Don't worry, as far as I know, he must be sleeping inside your... Wait! Where is your crystal?"
"Hmm?" Looking at where Subaru was pointing, namely the region of his collarbone, there was no crystal at all. In fact, now Subaru had finally noticed her clothes. It was a beautiful black dress with orange and silver details. And where should Puck's crystal be, where he himself had explained that it was a kind of "home" for him, It was just the collar part of her dress detailed in silver and black.
She wasn't wearing this before!
"Ahh, when did you change your clothes?"
"Oh this…?" She looked at the dress. "Well, unfortunately, I don't know." Subaru sighed for the umpteenth time. It won't lead to anything. "Our answers seem to be in the loot house."
Couldn't help it, the next thing to do would be to head towards the loot house. But there was a problem. Subaru's memories were still fresh, he still vividly remembered his misfortune. Making him completely forget about Satella's black outfit. In fact, someone who also wore black came to his mind: There was a sadistic woman who looked at him like he was her toy. She smiled as he lay there, losing his body heat.
It was frightening, terrifying, disgusting, something truly vile. The suffering he had gone through, he could still feel, not as real pain, but as phantom pain. So did Satella. He saw it with his eyes. It was real. Everything indicated to be. But still: The girl was here in front of him, looking at him with concern.
He hadn't noticed, but his fists were clenched tightly, and his frown was terrifying. When Satella's face met his eyes, he felt a wave of huge anger, not for her, but for what they had done to her.
"Subaru…what is wrong?"
"Ah… It's nothing, I'm just thinking, thinking, just trying to come up with a plan, you know…"
Now with the memory of the first time he'd seen her, he could still remember how kind she'd been, she'd saved him, helped him in his time of need when no one else had. Also, her lack of honesty in trying to keep him away from her problems made him wonder how anyone could be so kind. She did all this for him, even if she was in trouble, and asked nothing in return.
One good deed a day… Yes, one good deed a day. "I want to help you, but we're going to need to do something really dangerous."
"…I don't understand, it's to recover my memories. Find my father? Tell me Subaru, what's really going on?"
"We'll have to call the guards." He declared with strong conviction. "Guards?" She asked.
He nodded. "But I have to warn you: In the end, when you remember about this idea, you probably won't like this decision."
She wanted to ask why but he continued before she could say anything, "But… Please, it's the only thing I could think of to help you. We're in a lot of trouble here, you know, so please don't be angry when this is all over, okay?"
"OK? But, could you explain it to me from the beginning?"
"Alright…"
After a while and a long explanation. The pair were already walking through the streets of the capital towards the guards' garrison. Subaru's objective was obviously to get the help of this world's police force. Clearly, he knew that he and Satella alone couldn't handle this alone. So it was vital to get help.
Even so… "—I still don't understand why I would be angry with you. What's the problem with calling the guards anyway?"
The story seemed a little strange to her, lacking some parts of explanations, but he was firm and stated that he does not have time to explain everything. You'll need to trust me, please?
She trusted him, since he offered help to her.
Subaru continued to walk hurriedly, as again according to him, they had little time: "I don't know…Look, you just refused that idea when I asked. Maybe you just didn't want to cause trouble for the guards, and thought we could handle it ourselves. Although now that I know what happened that was really reckless of us."
And the more he thought about it, the more the idea sank into Subaru's mind. How reckless their idea was, if they had called for more help things might have turned out differently. Also, something else remained on his mind. his request to enter first. Satella trusted him when he said he would let her know whether he was safe to go in or not. And obviously in her kindness, before he actually entered the loot house, she chose to put her trust in him and he failed…
He wouldn't be surprised if she was disappointed in him. And obviously now she couldn't, she doesn't even remember anything. And he cowardly didn't tell that part or the part where she… Anyway! Still within his thoughts he wondered: Could this have to do with some kind of trauma she acquired after what happened at the loot house…?
It was still all weird, and they both clearly survived. Fortunately, despite all the pain he felt, he was relatively well, despite the fact that every time he remembered it, he felt like throwing up. She shouldn't be much different, so maybe it was a plausible idea.
Now, now, I think I have an idea…. He should certainly ask her to stay in the guards' garrison while he went home to loot with help. However, it might be difficult to convince her to let him go with the guards. But if she doesn't want to, I can keep her here, I need to ensure her safety. Also, according to that guy, the guards should be more than enough to solve a robbery like this.. Yes… "I definitely need to talk to her…"
"Um…?"
"Ah… I'll explain later… Look, we're coming…"
Out of the corner of his eyes, he watched the girl nod. It's a shame that things have to be this way, and that they couldn't be simpler.
Facing a large iron gate. Subaru and Satella watched what would be the guards' garrison. According to the people Subaru had talked to, this seemed to be the place. "I hope so, we don't have much time."
"Let me talk to them, all right?" Subaru said signaling to the trio of guards at the entrance.
"Subaru-kun… I'd rather go with you, if we're talking about something I missed, I should talk to them too, don't you think?"
… "Ah… all right, your will." He accepted without difficulty, he wouldn't deny it if she wanted to. It was just him wanting to return the favor to her as much as possible.
Satella walked towards the guards with Subaru following. Earlier he'd noticed in the few interactions they'd had with other people to get here, she had a tendency to be shy in front of people. She didn't seem to like talking to people very much, although she spoke normally to him. She just didn't look comfortable enough. Now the question remains: Did that mean she liked him enough to be more comfortable around him?
"Excuse me… My friend and I would like to ask for help." Satella explained, gaining the guards' attention.
Subaru was glad she called him a friend. In the conversation they had on the way here, when she asked what their relationship was before the memory loss incident, he simply explained that he met her just today, that is, just before she lost her memories, and that they weren't really close or long-term acquaintances.
But it seems that she already considers him someone minimally close to be her friend. Good.
But unlike Subaru, the guards didn't look too happy. "So, Miss…."
"Satella just Satella. Subaru-kun and I need you to help us hunt a killer in the slums. We're sure she'll show up soon. Also, something important of mine was stolen."
…
….
…
Wrong. Something felt wrong. The atmosphere seemed too tense for the duo's taste. None of them can fail to notice. The guards' expressions looked so out of the ordinary, how could someone look so disgusted and terrified at the same time?
"Satella!"
Subaru didn't even have time to react, as the girl's figure fell to the hot, hard floor of the sidewalk. The girl coughed crimson, her lungs clamoring for air. The cold began to consume her body. And the sword stuck in her chest, was taken with force without mercy. She had no idea what was happening, in her fury one of her hands tried to grab the guard's face, but it was in vain. There was no strength in her arms, she was too weak.
Everything burned, her insides collapsing. Drowning in his own blood, he looked into her lifeless eyes. Crimson leaking from her mouth, and empty amethyst eyes in her direction. What was that? What nightmare is this? He wanted to get up! Standing up, not lying down! Doia, doia! Take it off! He begged them to take it off. He needs to breathe!
Agonizing, it was agonizing! The heat from the ground entered his body as he lost body temperature.
There was nothing that could be done. The end was near, the lifeless boy and girl on the sidewalk could no longer complete their goals. The guards could no longer defend themselves from the threat clear in their eyes. The elven girl and her feline spirit could not continue on their way in search of the little girl's parents. Citizens couldn't get on with their lives, not when the end was near.
Shadows and shadows consumed everything and everyone. The gigantic capital of Lugnica was covered in black shadows. And the being responsible for it cried out for revenge. All the innocent or guilty are gone.
Ice against shadows, cold and darkness turned everything into a lifeless place. Ultimately, he had failed to save his daughter. And the hero had failed to save the city.
…..
….
..
"Hah…!" With one hand squeezing his chest. Subaru breathed heavily, eyes wide, as if he had just come out of a horrible nightmare.
"Boy, are you okay? Looks like you saw a hollow… Huh…? Hey kid! Don't black out in front of my store!"
Subaru couldn't take it anymore as his mind collapsed. The reality was too macabre and confusing for him to process as he passed out in front of the appa tent.
Sometime later, Subaru woke up to the figure of a green-haired, blue-eyed man in his front. The appa shop owner remembered. Offering a glass of water and a fresh Appa.
"Hi, you're finally awake…take this one, it's on the house." Subaru took a sip of water to refresh his dry throat. And then immediately accepted the offered appa. It tasted good, it was really juicy and sweet.
Also, the man was really kind which calmed the boy's nerves, he was about to say thank you once more, when he saw her silver hair, as she walked carelessly down the street,
"It's her! W-Wait!" Subaru exclaimed.
Stumbling as he tried to catch up to her, he tried to run towards the girl, only to be stopped. Annoyed, he heard, "Boy, aren't you forgetting something?"
A bag of grocery items was placed in front of her, "Oh thank you, I have to go, thank you….!"
Grabbing the bag he ran, and at the top of his lungs he yelled, "WAIT! SATELLA!"
The resounding scream was heard by everyone in the market, leaving them shocked. Even the appa vendor cringed at this. The girl, Satella, who was her target, was no more than at least a hundred meters away. She turned alarmed towards Subaru.
Now in her mostly white clothes, she tries to find the source of the scream. But the number of people where she was prevented her from seeing clearly.
Emilia! The insignia!
"Huh!?" She pulled desperately at the now empty pockets. It couldn't be. So she thought. Someone had stolen her insignia. Searching and searching, she ignored the voice that screamed the name of the witch of envy in the background.
Until she saw the figure leaping and hopping on the roof of some carriages. A little girl with blond hair. Lia, it was her! Run!
Emilia ran as fast as she could towards the thief who had stolen her. I can't believe it! No!
How could she miss one object as valuable as this. If she didn't retrieve it, everything would be lost, and there would be nothing she could do. Lia calms down, just follow her.
"Puck..." She reached an alley, passing at an impressive speed by some people. In the end she found a wall, signaling that from there she could not pass. Over the roofs Lia, over the roofs! Her spirit warned her to go up and chase her across the roofs.
And so she did, climbing easily over the walls of the ok co. Reaching the top, she turned around desperately looking around, there was no sign of the thief.
"N-No!"
Subaru stopped inside the alley breathing heavily. He was very out of breath after he had run so far to catch up with the girl. If the guy hadn't gotten in the way earlier he might have managed to catch up with her.
"Hah…Hah… Satella…" What just happened? "Why did she run so hard after seeing me?"
"What are you blathering to yourself over there, huh?" Footsteps followed by a voice sounded right in front of Subaru.
"Huh?" There were three people, one tall, one thin and one dwarf. "Y-You again! What the hell…"
"Hah… Have we met you before?" the dwarf asked before being pushed by the thinner one. "Shut up and focus on what's important! …Hey skinny, pass everything you've got, or we…"
The big, mean-looking guy finished his sentence: "It's going to kill you." he said, squeezing his fist against his hand, generating snaps to reinforce his point.
"Right, right…" Subaru replied with venom as he set down his things on the floor, but specifically, his shopping bag. "Now let me go."
"Hmph…" The thinner one snorted and slowly made his way towards Subaru, as did the other two. Subaru didn't move and remained with a frown on his face. "Oh! This looks like it's worth a lot of money, what do you think about Rachins?"
Subaru didn't really care about shopping at this point. He just wanted to move on, besides he was tired of the race he did. Facing these three didn't seem like a good idea.
"It's true~" Rachins, the thinnest, smiled as he took his tongue out of his mouth. He took the bag and didn't seem much more interested in Subaru, unlike the other two.
"Although you were very arrogant, skinny. If you don't want to be all broken, start barking like a dog, go… Whoo, whoo…" The dwarf seemed to enjoy himself as he teased him.
"Bastard, don't get cocky."
"Auhha…" The world turned to the dwarf as he was kicked in the face. Realizing what had just happened the other two tried to intervene, only for Subaru to push the bigger guy, causing him to lose his balance. Finally, the black haired boy tried to punch him in the chin, but missed badly while losing his balance as well. Luckily that didn't stop him from dodging the skinny guy's attack.
He had his tongue out, and was smirking at Subaru. It could be said that while the other two were down, this was a 1v1, however, much to Subaru's misfortune. His enemy had a knife: he had forgotten this detail.
"...W-Wait..."
Subaru's plea was ignored as he approached the boy to stab him. Subaru fell to the ground in excruciating pain as he received a blow to the side of the face from the bigger guy's heavy hand.
"Don't play with us, you shit!"
Everyone started kicking the boy who once again flinched under the beating he was taking. If he had attacked the one with the knife this might not have happened... Events were repeating themselves, just like before... And once again he was getting beaten up for them.
Satella help me…
And coinciding with Subaru's mental plea, he could only hear the sound of the heavy blow. He had stopped being beaten up, and it looked like someone finally came to help him. Didn't know who it was, just that it was a girl, given how the guys swore at her.
"Don't hurt him!"
A cry, not a plea from the depths of her soul. In the midst of his turbulent consciousness, he can hear her screaming. A certainty came to the boy's mind, this person, no... She came to save him.
His heroine came to save him once more.
"Witch!" That's what he heard before he passed out.
…...
...
...
Subaru woke up stunned soon after, still not quite aware of what was happening he could feel the wind against his face. He was being loaded, at incredible speed.
His amber eyes opened to reveal the image of the houses being quickly left behind. He was in someone's arms as they ran across the reddish roofs of the gigantic city. What?
"Subaru-kun!?" A voice like a silver bell rang very, very close to his face. "Huh" He sighed in surprise.
"S-Satella are you?" Then she really saved me, again…!
"Yes, it's me..." She said as she carried him in her slender arms like a princess.
She looked him right in the eye, this after jumping from one roof to the next. Still on the air, the girl looked nonchalant as she offered her full attention to Subaru.
She frowned as she landed on another roof, continually running. "I'm sorry, you got hurt a lot, I arrived a little late…"
Subaru looked surprised and confused at the same time. "Not too bad, is it? I don't feel too much."
Although he didn't noticed himself face was all bruised, it in fact was, his right cheek was swollen and purple, and on his chin there was blood that had already dried.
"Oh, well..." Satella spun on her heel as she veered off her original route after noticing the small flurry of white in the corner of her eyes. Then she soon noticed a structure that could camouflage her escape, behind a structure above the roofs of one of the large houses. "I think this is because of me."
"Huh? What— Satellaaa!" Subaru was interrupted in his confusion, as they flew over a large street in the capital, dozens and dozens of carriages passed by, and Satella flew over everything with an incredible leap, reaching the other side.
"WHY WE'RE JUMPING THROUGH THE ROOFS!"
"Sorry, sorry I scared you Subaru-kun, but don't worry! I'm in control here, Ehhhh….." He glared at her intensely, after she'd nearly hit a wall just before turning 180 degrees and kicking the wall, heading in the other direction. "Almost, sorry..."
"Could you please stop doing this….?" Exasperated, he asked.
"NO!"
….
"Subaru-kun, can't you see I'm trying to run away here? Be quiet please, thank you!"
"That doesn't answer my question! And who are you running from!?" Wait!? "Don't tell me those guys..." That I got beaten up horribly twice...
"Subaru-kun, we are fleeing the knights of this city, we are fleeing the city!"
….. "What? Why?"
…
..
Satella looked back quickly, as did Subaru. From here they could see the great royal castle of the city much further away than they had seen before. She looked worried, so she turned to him once more. "II maybe I got a little rough with those…guys?"
"O-Oh, that means you gave them a good beating, didn't you?"
"Well, yes Subaru-kun. I gave them a hell of a beating."
Subaru sighed in surprise, this girl was something else. Although he didn't know the fate of the three guys, at least they got what they deserved. They beat him twice in the same day, who the hell do they think they are? The boy just hopes Satella hasn't been too hard on them like she said.
"Why are you smiling, Satella? Don't make that face! You don't match a villainess's face, please!"
"Subaru-kun! I'm not a villain! It's just that I thought it was funny the way you talked about the 'beating' I gave them…."
He narrowed his eyes. "It was just a beating, you didn't kill them, did you?"
"Hm hum, Definitely not." I just exaggerated a little… after they called me a witch… which caught the guards attention and made them angrier against me…
"Huh? Why did we stop?"
Subaru's question was asked shortly after they landed in a poorer part of the city on the other side of a small wall that divided the most upscale looking neighborhood. The neighborhood was similar to the favela that contained the sack house. However, from what Subaru could see they went the other way, moving away from the "loot house" and staying at the other end of the city that was also a slum.
This caught Subaru's mind off guard, now that he was looking at the city's late afternoon sky, he would notice that it had been a long time since they met today. But that also meant they would take longer to retrieve the girl's insignia.
"I think we can go slower from here." Said the girl. "I don't think they could catch us after I ran so hard..."
"You don't even look tired..."
Subaru noticed that the girl didn't even look tired after running across the city on the rooftops! Even after a while after taking a beating, he felt tired being carried in the arms of a girl…. His male pride was hurt! But still…
Before she could say anything: "Thank you... You saved me again Satella... Thank you."
"Well, I only saved you this once, but I accept the thanks. However, my problem with the insignia will have to be left for later. We can't go back while the knights are hunting us..."
"I'm very sorry….."
"Alright, Subaru-kun. We can look for it later, now we need to get out of town. I don't think anything good will come of it if we stay here, besides, you're not from here are you?"
With that, Satella hastily declared her willingness to leave the city. That was what surprised him the most, it seems she doesn't have much interest in his insignia. Despite the fact that in his view she was just a jewel, she still seemed too calm to let the matter drop. Furthermore…
"No, I'm not from here. Though for some reason I'm not all that surprised that you noticed that… Is it really okay to put this insignia thing aside…?"
"I prefer it that way, I don't want to go through unnecessary dangers. Did you see the amount of guards that followed me…..No? Subaru-kun, literally dozens of guards decided to attack us."
"I see, so either we try to go after the insignia and have to meet an assassin one more time or face the city guards, man, this world doesn't take it easy, does it?"
"We'd better start walking, let's go. And meanwhile, I would like to ask you a few things, just before we talk to the guards and ask for help, remember?"
How could it not, Subaru thought. That time, when for no reason, Satella was attacked and had a sword stuck in her chest. He kept that memory in the back of his mind, after all, it couldn't be real, they were right here now.
Subaru sighed heavily, he started to shake, he didn't want to remember that, it scared him immensely. "Hey Subaru-kun, calm down, don't try to remember, forget it, forget it..."
Alarmingly close, Satella was right in front of his face as she held his shoulders. W-What… "It's getting dark, and we need to find a place to stay, we can't go out of town at night."
"O-Okay…" Subaru tried to accept, and with that they tried to look for a place in the slums to spend the night.
Obviously it wouldn't be comfortable at all, but it would just be for them to spend the night. Previously he imagined Satella was some kind of noble, but since he had no memories of anything, it would be difficult for them to find her noble family, especially in this messy situation.
Deep down he knew she was going to have problems, and it was partly his fault. He still didn't know exactly why the guards had attacked her, but he was convinced she wasn't wrong in this case. Something didn't fit...
As they walked, and because their backs were turned, they didn't notice the huge explosion that came from the other side of the city's skyline. A shock wave and a great frost spread through the atmosphere. Arriving at the fugitive duo.
The cold was intense, it didn't even take seconds for the temperature to plummet, and a kind of winter began. Subaru, in his last moments, only caught a glimpse of Satella's expression as he tried to flee.
Unfortunately it was in vain when the great beast rose on the horizon. His orange eyes had no interest in the disaster he had caused, his only interest was in the destruction of the world.

Author Notes:
[Yeah, If you came till here you certainly noticed that Puck was responsible for that, yeah, it's interesting to know that it would literally happen if Subaru didn't save Emilia.]
[Also I would like to salient that this story wouldn't be just flowers, rose and friendship, It will certainly be a lot of suffered and difficult for Subaru and Satella. Obvsiously it's Satella fault with her presence here, it's unlikely to the most part of the cast accept her and the truh behind her past, even she were a good person.]
[Thus, about the continuing of this fiction… Well, obviously just for Satella's friendship with Emilia. And also, the ship of Subaru and Tella-tan.]
[And finally the formatting and grammar of this story. As you may have noticed, my English is bad. Naturally, everything becomes almost unreadable or unsatisfactory. So what do I do? Well, try to improve it. To this fiction and to others as well. After all, it is with practice that perfection is achieved.]
[Of course, I have to thank the guy who came up with this idea first. It's really interesting and its story as someone asked in the comments is on the Receptionist's discord server in "beta reading channel"...]
[Also, thanks to the guys who helped to translate this chapter, that's very appreciated!]
