I was at camp Whou Zhong. We were running with the sticks and rice. "Ping." I was breathing heavily, "Captain…" "Come to my tent after supper… I need to speak to you." I bit my lip and said "Of course." As soon as dinner was over, I quickly bathed, before going to the tent of my Captain, who also doubled as my fiancée. We were engaged since we were kids, fell in love, and we are planning our wedding, as soon as this war was over. It had been the worst 1 month, since we've both been here.
"Captain Li?" I called. "Enter…" I opened the tent and stepped in nervously. The second Shang saw me he pulled me into his arms and kissed me before I could even process anything. My arms wrapped around his neck, deepening the kiss, letting him tug my hair free from the neat bun I wore it in, before we broke apart. "How did you find out?" I whispered. "I knew the moment I saw you, when you started the fight… And I'm your husband, Do you really expect me to not know my own fiancée ?" I blushed. "Will you protect me?" Shang frowned and said "From what love?" "Yao!" Shang looked to me concerned. "Sit and tell me everything that's happened." I sat on his mat, sighing. "Tell me darling…" He said, sitting beside me, his arms wrapping around my body. "He… Caught me getting out of the lake after bathing… Saw everything…" I felt tears in my eyes, causing Shang to wipe my tears. "He… forced me right there… He's cornered me every time… forced me one day every single week since…" I didn't want to admit how broken I felt.
Shang's arms pulled me closer to him. "I'm so sorry Shang! I'm such a slut…" I felt the tears come as heavy and fast as a waterfall. "Hush. You're not a slut, Okay? You were forced into that situation. I knew something was different… You've been acting brave, but I know you've been terrified of everyone… But me. That's why I asked you here." I sniffled, as he held me. "If I had known it was that bad… I would've done something sooner…" "I don't think I'm strong enough to do this…" I confessed. "I know you are." He stated. "I need to see how bad I have to teach him a lesson… Will you show me the bruises?" I said "Not now… But tonight, ye… Come to my tent tonight…" I didn't even hear his response before I darted out of his tent, and back to mine throwing up behind my tent, before I stepped into it curling up in a ball. 'Is this punishment for sneaking off to war in place of my father?' "Ping." Shang's voice called. "Come in." I whispered sadly. I heard the flap open and shut, before I felt Shang lay beside me, his arms wrapped around my waist. "Feeling better?" I shook my head, as I rolled over to my side, and nestled into his chest. "How did you know?" I asked, as He said "I saw you throwing up…" I sat up sighing. He sat up as well, before saying "I love you."
"I love you." "Let me see your bruises please?" Shang asked. I undid my sash and removed my training top and pants, leaving me in just the bandages I used to bind my chest, and underwear. "Remove the bandages too…" Shang requested. I removed the bandages, blushing. "My god… your covered with bruises… I don't even want to know what down there looks like…" I sighed, covering my face. "Mulan, honey… Don't hide…" I slipped off the underwear, so I was completely naked. "Oh god…" He said, shocked. "I'm so…" I quickly yanked on my pajamas, as Shang's arms wrapped around me. "I'm sorry… I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable…" I said "It's fine…" Shang shook his head, and said "No it's not… Come here…" He laid on the mat causing me to curl up in his chest. "Make me your wife…" I whispered, as we spent the next hour in pure bliss. After, we pulled on some pajamas, I curled up close to him. "Try and sleep, now." He whispered, as I curled up in his chest, shut my eyes, and fell asleep.
In the morning, I woke up to an empty tent. "Shang?" I said as I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes. When I looked beside me, I saw a note. I read it with a smile, before changing and going out to the grounds, and over to the breakfast area. "Oh… I'm sorry… I have strict orders from Chi Fu to not feed you anymore, until you become a better soldier…" I said "WHAT!?" All eyes shot to my position. "I demand you give me some breakfast!" "No." I stormed off, frustrated, and in tears. I didn't know where to go. Before I knew it, I was outside Shang's tent. I opened the tent, curled up on his mat, and let my tears of frustration. I was oblivious to the sound of rustling, until I felt a hand on my shoulder. "Hey Mulan, what's wrong love?" Shang's voice filled my ears, his scent filled my senses. I looked up, tears in my eyes, as Shang said "What happened?" I said "If I were you I'd talk to Chi Fu, He's told the chef to not
Give me any food. I've been denied getting any food..." "I will later… Come on…" I sighed, as we left the tent. Most the soldiers were talking till they spotted Shang, I had ducked to the end of the line. Later Chi Fu forced me a couple of times. The next few months went like that, Shang sneaking me food, whenever he could, him keeping a close on Yao, and him sneaking into my tent holding me, making love to me, making me feel safe and secure, as we slept. Although the past couple of days, Shang hasn't been able to sneak some food to me, as often as he used too.
We were sparing today, I was sparing with Shang. I got him a few times, before the world spun, causing Shang to knock me down. "Ping?" I didn't move, I was too weak from not eating breakfast. "Captain Li… I'm sorry…" Shang frowned, kneeling beside me. "Can you manage to go to my tent? I'll send a doc." Shang asked in a hushed tone. I said "I'm a bit too weak…" Shang helped me over to the tent, before he said "Stay here. I'll send a doctor." I nodded, and laid on the mat. "Shang wait." I said, as he turned to see me. "Yes?" I said "Thank you, for taking such great care of me…" Shang smiled and said "Of course baby. Now stay here, I'll check on you in a little bit." I nodded. After I got examined, and a few minutes, or maybe an hour or two, Shang came in and immediately sat beside me. "Hey beautiful." I smiled and said "Hi. Did the doctor say anything?" He said "I'm sorry, I failed you… I should've been more mindful, even if I was busy, that's no excuse to neglect you my fiancée." I said "Shang, What are you talking about?" He looked at me, as he said "You're not eating enough… Or at all the past few days… and it's my fault… I'm supposed to make sure you're eating, and I've not been doing that… I'm so sorry…." I said "I don't blame you. You've been overwhelmed…"
He shook his head, and said "That's no excuse. You're supposed to come first." I sighed, and said "Shang." He looked at me in the eye. "You know it's true… BUT I swear, right now, and right here, that I'm going to be a better fiancée, to you." "And what if I get pregnant by Yao?" Shang looked at me concerned, as he said "Mulan, darling, What are you implying?" I said "I'm pregnant… and I think it might be Yao's… I've been nauseous and just feeling worn out, and kind of out of it, for at least, 12 weeks… Which makes Yao likely, but it could also be you… Or Chi Fu… Since I was with all three of you around the same time…" I looked down, to the ground, afraid to look Shang in the eyes. His hand found my chin, and lifted it gently, causing our eyes to meet. "Oh honey… You are my wife. I am your husband. That's all anyone needs to know." I said "What about the war…? Do you really think we should risk our baby's health?" Shang said "What do you want to do my wife? Do you want to take the Dong Quai?" I ducked my head, feeling conflicted. "I don't know…" Shang kissed my head, as he said "Why don't you just rest today? I'm going to plan on saying you were feeling unwell and needed some rest." I Nodded. I spent the day in my tent, alone.
