Stuffing the last of his supplies into his pack he sighed. Was he ready to leave home? Shaking his head he pushed those thoughts away. He had put these plans off far too long. Zipping his pack he spun to leave the room.

As he tugged on his pack he caught his reflection in a nearby mirror. His pale cheek was marked with a grizzly scar. His sharp honey eyes had hints of dark circles. His dirt-colored hair was a shaggy mess. As he took in his appearance a black Minnetonka landed on his head.

"I get it you're in a hurry."

As he spoke he turned to look up at his partner. On the hat rack beside him sat a chimchar. The monkey Pokemon was perched on one of the hooks. As it rested there it looked down at him. Raising his arm he plucked his partner from his seat.

"Now shall we start our adventure?"

Stepping out into a modest kitchen he frowned. At the small table sat his mother brown hair tied in a messy ponytail. In front of her sat a charcoal gray insulated jacket with flame designs. Her gaze was locked on the dark wood of the table.

"This has been a long time coming hasn't it William." She whispered not looking at him

"Mom I can't stick around the farm forever." He replied quietly

Stepping up to the table he took a seat. Upon sitting she finally looked up. he could tell she had been crying. Her face was streaked with the remains of tears. Looking away she pushed the coat across the table. Hesitantly he slipped into the jacket. It was a perfect fit as he slid the zipper up. The sun was bright as he took his first steps outside his hometown. As he walked he saw the Route's sign "Route 1". The route seemed endless as he trudged through its tall grass. Weaving through the grass he could see various Pokemon. The small birds and insects paid him no mind. His stroll was almost calming as he moved among the creatures. He had no plans to fight them he saw them as defensless.

Reaching a hilltop the next town came into veiw. Ahead them lied Enferno Town and its fire type gym leader. At the sight of the gym Chimchar clapped happily bouncing on his shoulder. Letting out a weak sigh he perched on a large rock taking in the town bellow. He didn't feel ready to go there just yet, he can't face him not just yet. The sound of rustling drew his attention from his thoughts.

"Taking a pitstop are we Will?"

He nearly jumped from his skin at the voice from behind him. Spinning on his perch he froze at the sight of the man before him. The man before him pushed his brown hair from his face smiling. An Infernape stood at his side holding a a basket. He couldn't help but smile at the sight of his own father. His father placed a hand on his hat pushing it back slightly. Smiling his father gently shoved him making him rock in place.

"I see you're actually wearing that old hat." His father remarked

"It helps me think of you when you're not around." Will amittted

"We're sorry Willy I know how you must feel." His father whispered sadly

As the words left his father's mouth his partner set the basket down. The basket was full of little sandwhiches, berries and various cookies for humans and pokemon. Chimchar jumped down plucking a sandwhich and berrry from the basket. Jumping the little monkey placed the sandwhich in his partner's lap. Smiling at his father the younger trainer bit into the sandwhich. Nodding in response his father turned back slipping onto the pather behind him.

"Come see him when you reach town." His father called waving over his shoulder

"Will do." Will yelled back
