"Gudrun" I heard my sister yelling "you have to get up". "What the hell" I thought "It's the summer holidays. Why would she want me to get up right now? Well, she has to have a good reason or else I will kill her." Yawning I started getting out of bed. "It's your own fault." A voice inside my head said. "You shouldn't have stayed up till 1 am to play 'Europa Universalist Ivy with Oliver. No wonder you are tired." I hated that voice. It had started after -no don't think about it again!- and was always telling me that what I was doing at the moment was wrong and that I'm a failure. The only times I managed to ignore it was when I was talking to my best friend Oliver or playing a game with my family. I put on my clothes and went down the staircase where I was greeted by our dog Hermes. My family has had a weird obsession with Greek mythology for my entire life and that was also one of the reason I'd taken Latin as a subject at school. I went into the living room to find my sister and my mother sitting on the sofa. "We've got news for you" Mama said "a letter arrived for you, darling." That was indeed interesting. Who was still sending letters in this century? I opened the envelope and starting reading aloud. To my surprise it was in English. "Dear Miss Stähler, We are placed to inform you that you have a place at Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment. Term begins on 1 September. Before that on August 28 a member of our staff will visit you and take you to Diagon alley to help you equip yourself with the necessary provisions. Yours sincerely Minerva McGonagall Deputy Headmistress." "Wait what" I thought "witchcraft and wizardry?" While I can't say that I excelled at English as an eleven-year-old I knew what those words meant. "This has to be a prank." My sister said. My mom nodded. "Somebody seems to think it's April." "It's weird that they put in so much effort though." My sister commented "Look they even gave her a list with made up books about witchcraft." "Well," I said. "I guess we'll just have to wait till August 28 until we'll find out." I felt something like hope for the first time in a long while. Maybe that was the explanation for some of the weird things that had happened in my life. Like in year 4 when Timo had punched me in the face and got thrown at the wall five meters away from us without me doing anything. Or in the year before that when Annika had wanted to dye her hair blue, and it just suddenly turned blue while we were doing our homework. Ooh, her mom hadn't been happy about that. "Yes" I thought "Maybe I am a witch." "Or maybe" the voice told me „You are just a dumb freak who is going mad." "We'll see" I thought. And I liked the new feeling of hope. "We'll find out in 2 days." Then I went upstairs, pressing the letter to my chest and deciding that I would go to get some more sleep.
Hi guys, I hope you enjoyed the first chapter. I'm thinking of including some German phrases (of course also adding a translation), for example song lines or conversations between our main character and her best friend. I'm not sure about that though so tell me what you think. Stay safe and healthy.
