It was raining like crazy outside while Fraz slept in his new house. He missed his little brother Guapo dearly, despite still being peeved at him. He actually was quite worried about him, hoping he was okay. Suddenly he heard a bark outside. He assumed it was the neighbors' dog. He heard it again, this time sounding more whiny and miserable. Fraz huffed, he had a few words for his neighbors about leaving a dog in the rain and possibly thunder. He heard the barking come closer. He opened the door to see a small pale gray dog with a long nose and small, pointy ears. He had a red collar on.

"Aww, are you lost, little guy?" Fraz asked, as he was about to reach for his tag. "Let me take you back to your family." The dog whimpered when he heard this, not in a sad and longing way, but more afraid. He backed away from Fraz and attempted to look at him threateningly, he expected Fraz to yell at him to not look at him that way. But Fraz had seen that look before, when he was yelled at by his boss, felt Mr. Doom coming, or when he was about to face death. But the look in this dog's eyes was much more fearful than his. Something he didn't think was possible. Fraz reached out for him, the dog cowered in fear, but Fraz removed his collar and then began rubbing his neck.

"There, there little guy. Fraz is not going to hurt you." Fraz said in a baby voice, the dog leaned in and panted a little, his tail even seemed to rise a little from between his legs. "You must be starving, let Fraz get you something to eat."

Fraz never had or wanted a dog before, so he didn't have any dog food. Instead he took out some lunch meat from the fridge. He knew it wasn't the best thing to feed a dog, but it was better than starving. The dog ate it hungrily. Fraz then got him a dog dish and filled it with water. The dog drank a little bit of it, then stopped. Not because he wasn't that thirsty, but because he was scared Fraz wouldn't let him outside or complain about life being too hard for him. Fraz didn't understand this, but he knew the dog was scared inside.

"Are you okay?" Fraz asked. The dog looked into Fraz's eyes, they were much kinder than any human he had seen. Reluctantly, the dog began drinking and knew he just had to trust Fraz. If he couldn't, he would run away again. The dog then began wiggling a little. He looked at Fraz nervously, worrying the blue shrew a little. "What is it?" The dog decided to tempt fate and scratch on the door. "Do you have to go?" Fraz opened the door and let the dog outside. A few seconds later he scraped on the door and Fraz immediately let him back in. He immediately patted his head and made more baby noises. "Good boy! Good boy!"

Fraz went to bed that night when the dog looked up at him with puppy eyes.

"Want to sleep with me?" Fraz asked. The dog slowly but surely climbed into bed with his new friend. "Good boy… Um… Hey, you need a name… For some reason you look like a "Jonah". So, can I call you Jonah?" For the first time in a long while the dog smiled with his tongue hanging out. He curled up by Fraz's feet. Fraz smiled, turned off the light and the two slept for the rest of the night.

The next morning, Fraz went to see his friends, SwaySway, Buhdeuce, Craig, and Sanjay to show them his new friend.

"Hey there." SwaySway knelt down and scratched the dog behind his ears. Buhdeuce followed suit.

"He's a charming little guy." Craig smiled at him.

"I want to pet him too!" Sanjay went over to pet Jonah. Jonah's eyes widened in horror when he saw Sanjay's fleshy face, small nose, and fluffy hair that was only on his head. Jonah growled and began foaming at the mouth. "What the?!"

"Jonah!" Fraz panicked and pointed a finger at his face. "Don't you DARE hurt my friend! He did nothing wrong!" Jonah's ears folded back and he whimpered at Fraz's sudden shouting, he was about to run away. "Wait!" Fraz petted Jonah. "It's okay, buddy, Fraz didn't mean to scare you, you're just not allowed to hurt Sanjay. No you're not. But Fraz will never hurt you, ever."

"I… I'm sorry…" Sanjay panted. "I don't know what I did."

"Maybe he doesn't like humans." Craig said.

"Huh?" Sanjay asked.

"You see, when I was in the pet shop, not all animals were big fans of humans. Some of them got along fine with other animals, but when they saw a human they either tried to attack or backed into a corner." Craig explained.

"Why?" SwaySway asked.

"Well… Not all humans are as nice as Sanjay. Any creature is capable of being ruthless. But this guy must have had it pretty rough with humans." Craig explained. "I have met many people, both good and bad. But I don't think Jonah has met many good ones."

"Poor guy…" Sanjay frowned. "Maybe I can help him trust people again… After some time has passed, that is."

"That's a good idea. You guys are the best." Fraz hugged his friends, then he scooped up Jonah, about to head to the park. Fraz looked around, the park wasn't busy that day, but there were a few people around. Some played frisbee with each other, and others walked their own dogs. Fraz also saw a strange looking family from far away. A mom, a dad, and their son and daughter.

"When are we going to find our dog?" Billy, the boy asked, sounding more demanding than worried.

"I'm glad he's gone." The mother, Bev grumbled. "One less mouth to feed."

"But I want a puppy! A pink and purple puppy!" The girl Buffy whined.

"Your mother is right, besides, maybe we can afford better things." Skip, the father stated. Fraz saw Jonah looking more scared than he had seen before. Fraz noticed this and felt his heart cringe.

"Coming here was a bad idea, boy. Let's go home." Fraz said as he picked him up.

"HEY!" Billy pointed. "What are you doing with our dog? Dog thief! Let's call the cops!"

"Billy, let's just ask this young man-er rodent." Skip said calmly as he reached out, Fraz felt the dog trembling like a leaf in his arms. "Thanks for finding our dog, now if we can just…"

"No!" Fraz pulled Jonah away. "He's my dog now!"

"Says who? Are you entitled to just keep a dog you find on the street?" Bev asked.

"I know you're not!" Fraz shouted. "I don't know you well or what you have done. But this dog is scared of you and others in general. I have been wronged in the past by others. But I moved on because I'm a grown man who has made mistakes too. However, none of you have done anything to stop this dog from feeling scared, alone, or threatened. Dogs are like toddlers, they are almost completely incapable of defending themselves. I swear if I see you come near Jonah again. I'm going to report you to the authorities!"

"Alright, guess he's your dog now." Skip shrugged, slightly afraid.

"I never wanted a dog anyway, I just wanted the kids to be kept busy." Bev grumbled. The family walked away to go back to their own business. Jonah's shaking began to lessen, then he gently licked Fraz on the cheek, causing him to chuckle.

"Let's go home, buddy. I'll make up for today." Fraz said gently. "I love you Jonah." Fraz carried Jonah into the sunset. "Maybe tomorrow, I can buy you some special treats." Jonah drooled at the thought, Fraz smiled.
