A TALENT SHOW AND A MIRACLE

The next day, Heather woke up from her bed. She got herself ready for school, and waited for Charlie Brown. But much to her disappointment, Charlie Brown didn't get out of the house.

"Still injured from yesterday. Good grief. Oh well. Better make the most of the school day without him." Heather sighed.

Heather prepared her lunch, and placed it in her lunchbox that read "CB + HW". Then, she picked up her books and pink pencil, and marched her way to school. As she got out of her house, there, waiting for her, was Sally.

"Morning, Sally. Charlie Brown still in bed?" asked Heather.

"Yeah. My big brother is still badly injured." Said Sally.

"Don't worry about it, Sally." Smiled Heather. "Your brother's sure to get better soon."

As they continued their way to school, the two girls met Linus, still sad.

"Hello, Linus!" called Heather.

"Oh! Morning, Sweet Babboo!" smiled Sally.

Linus wanted to tell Sally that he wasn't her sweet babboo, but he was too upset.

"Linus, what's wrong?" asked Heather.

"Janice doesn't wanna see me again." Sighed Linus.

"Wha?! How come?" quizzed Heather.

"Something about Mimi." Linus explained.

"Mimi….. oh yeah. I guess Janice misunderstood what I said about Mimi's brief visit." Heather said.

"Good grief." Sighed Linus.

"Don't worry, Linus. I'm sure to think of something." Heather suggested.

During school, Heather sat in her class as Mrs. Donovan called out the roll.

Mrs. Donovan called for Charlie Brown.

"Charlie Brown's absent." Explained Heather. "His sister accidentally crashed into his head yesterday."

Mrs. Donovan wanted to know how.

"I witnessed the whole thing. It was an accident, I promise." Heather said.

Mrs. Donovan understood this.

"Okay." Said Heather.

Later that day, there was an assembly for the whole school.

The principal called out that there would be a talent show going on.

"A talent show?" cried Linus. "Oh, I can't wait to tell Janice….. no wait. Janice doesn't want to see me again. Good grief!"

"A talent show! Next Friday!" cheered Heather.

At lunch time, Heather was having lunch. She wanted Charlie Brown to have lunch with her, but because Charlie Brown was absent, someone else sat with her. This someone else was Frieda.

"Hi, Frieda!" called Heather.

"Hello, Heather!" said Frieda. "Since the talent show is next Friday, there's just enough time to choose who to perform with. May I suggest doing an act with a red-haired girl with naturally curly hair?"

"I'd love to, but….." Heather said.

"But what?" pondered Frieda.

"I've already decided who I'm going to do an act with." Heather replied.

"You've already decided? Oh, good grief!" sighed Frieda.

"But you're still going to have lunch with me, right, Frieda?" asked Heather.

"Alright, Heather." Smiled Frieda.

Once the school day was over, Heather went over to Schroeder's place. Schroeder was playing his piano as always. Schroeder saw Heather walking straight towards him.

"Hi, Heather!" said Schroeder.

"Hello, Schroeder! Have you decided on who you're going to do an act with?" asked Heather.

"No." said Schroeder.

"I've been thinking. Why don't you do an act with me?" asked Heather.

"Heather! I….. I….." Schroeder stammered.

"Yes?" asked Heather.

"I would love to!" exclaimed Schroeder. "You sing and dance, while I play the piano."

"Sweet!" cheered Heather. "Hope Charlie Brown won't mind me doing an act with another boy. That is if he gets better before the talent show starts."

Meanwhile, Sally walked over to the Van Pelt place. She knocked on the door, and who should open but Lucy.

"Oh good grief! What are you doing here?" groaned Lucy.

"Hi, Lucy. Is your brother home?" asked Sally.

"He is. Come on in. Linus could use some cheering up." Said Lucy.

Sally was surprised. She didn't expect Lucy to actually feel sorry for Linus. So Sally went into Linus' room, seeing how sad Linus was. Sally knew this wasn't a time for pet names, so she decided not to call Linus her "Sweet Babboo".

"Hi, Linus." Said Sally.

"Sally?" said Linus.

"Still upset about Janice?" asked Sally.

"Yes." Answered Linus.

"Cheer up, Linus!" smiled Sally. "There's many other pretty girls out there, like….."

"Don't even try it, Sally." Frowned Linus.

"Rats!" groaned Sally. "But even so, I've got an idea, Linus! Since the talent show is next Friday, why don't we do an act together?"

"Hmm… alright then, Sally." Linus decided.

"Yay! My sweet babboo is performing with me!" cheered Sally.

"Thanks, Sally. I needed that." said Linus.

Over in the Brown residence, Charlie Brown was still asleep in bed. As soon as the door knocked, Charlie Brown remained asleep. The person at the door was Peppermint Patty, with Marcie following behind.

"Chuck! Oh, Chuck! It's Peppermint Patty!" Peppermint Patty called.

"Er, Sir? I'm not sure about this." Said Marcie.

"I wonder if Heather knows anything about this." Said Peppermint Patty.

"She's just across the street, Sir." Said Marcie.

Peppermint Patty turned around and saw the familiar redhead about to enter her home.

"Heather!" called Peppermint Patty.

"Oh! Hello, Peppermint Patty! Hello, Marcie!" called Heather.

"Do you know if Chuck is home?" asked Peppermint Patty.

"He's in bed. He suffered a nasty crash to his head." Said Heather. She had just said this when the door to the Brown residence opened.

Mrs. Brown answered the door.

"Oh, Mrs. Brown! Is Chuck home?" asked Peppermint Patty.

Mrs. Brown answered and explained.

"He's in bed? That sounds serious! You wouldn't mind if we paid a visit, would you?" asked Peppermint Patty.

Mrs. Brown accepted.

"Great! Come on, Marcie!" cheered Peppermint Patty.

"Right behind you, Sir!" smiled Marcie.

"You know, I ought to pay a visit too." Heather said to herself.

Heather followed the bookworm and tomboy into the Brown residence. At this moment, Sally entered.

Mrs. Brown asked Sally where she was.

"Just been to visit my boyfriend, Mrs. Brown." Said Sally. "I'm doing a talent act with him."

Mrs. Brown asked if it was Harold Angel.

"No, Mom. It's Linus." Said Sally. "My sweet babboo!"

Mrs. Brown told Sally that Linus wasn't her sweet babboo.

"What does he know?" asked Sally.

Up in Charlie Brown's room, the three girls who love him entered, and both Peppermint Patty and Marcie were shocked.

"Chuck! Oh, Chuck!" cried Peppermint Patty.

"Are you alright, Charles?" asked Marcie.

"I don't think he can hear you." said Heather.

"Come on, Chuck! You can wake up! Wake up now!" called Peppermint Patty.

Charlie Brown heard the voices, and he started to move a muscle.

"I don't believe it! Chuck's waking up!" cried Peppermint Patty.

"Come on, Charlie Brown!" added Heather.

"You gotta make it, Charles!" demanded Marcie.

Charlie Brown started to open his eyes.

"Come on, Chuck! You can do it!" called Peppermint Patty.

Charlie Brown opened his mouth, and looked at the three girls.

"I'm alright, Heather!" Charlie Brown called. "I'm up, Marcie! I'm feeling alright, Sir!"

"It's a miracle!" cheered Heather.

"We're glad you're alright, Charles!" smiled Marcie.

"Sir?! Seriously, Chuck!" cried Peppermint Patty.

"Oh! Peppermint Patty!" Charlie Brown cried.

"We were so worried, Chuck!" cried Peppermint Patty.

"We didn't think you were going to make it, Charles!" added Marcie.

"We're so glad you're awake, Charlie Brown!" smiled Heather as she ran to Charlie Brown and hugged him, happy he was awake.

"We're so glad you're okay, Charlie Brown!" smiled Heather.

"I'm glad to be alright!" smiled Charlie Brown.

"Because there's a talent show next Friday." Said Heather.

"A talent show? Really?" cried Charlie Brown.

"A talent show at your school, Charles?" asked Marcie.

"I'd love to join!" cheered Peppermint Patty.

"You'll have to talk to the principal about this." Suggested Heather.

"Alright." Said Peppermint Patty.

Both Peppermint Patty and Marcie walked out of Charlie Brown's room and back home.
