SHE'S A STAR
Lucy pulled the curtains, and out on stage were Schroeder on his piano, and Heather holding a microphone. She was going to sing and dance at the same time.
"It's Heather! And Schroeder! Come on, Heather!" cheered Janice.
Heather cleared her throat, and got ready to sing.
"Tonight," Heather announced. "I will be singing a song. A very special song. This song is a dedication. A dedication to a special someone. Hit it, Schroeder!"
Schroeder placed his fingers and thumbs on the piano keys, and played the music of O Mio Babbino Caro. Heather started waltzing, microphone in her hand, and she started singing with an aria voice.
"Oh my dear Charlie,
You are so courageous and handsome.
Very compassionate and funny,
sweet, helpful and awesome."
Charlie Brown, watching from backstage, was touched. He even let out some tears. Marcie, Peppermint Patty, Franklin, Sally, and Frieda watched and were moved to tears.
"I have a friend who is lovely,
An ever so cute one that is who.
This girl prevailed her own disease,
with help from her own sweet babboo.
She suffered a boy, who teased her thence,
but babboo had knocked some sense!"
Janice, realising Heather meant her, was moved to tears. Even Mimi had to let out tears, and Rerun, knowing Heather was talking about his brother, had to cry. Even Lucy was moved to tears. Linus was also moved to tears.
"But dear Charlie, you're my babboo,
a sweet one, I….. love you!"
There was a thunderous applause. Schroeder got off his piano and joined Heather to take a bow with her.
The talent show was soon over. And it was time to announce the winners. The winners who would get the trophies. Charlie Brown looked nervous. He was hoping he and Frieda would win, but at the same time, hoped Heather and Schroeder would win.
The principal make the official announcement.
"Come on!" Charlie Brown begged.
"I'll do it!" called Lucy.
Lucy walked to the front of the stage and read the scores each performer got.
"And the winners of tonight's talent show are….." Lucy announced.
"Please be me! Please be me!" begged Charlie Brown.
"I sure hope I'm the winner!" said Heather.
"Schroeder and Heather Wold!" Lucy announced.
"Oh my goodness!" cried Heather.
"I won! I mean we won!" cheered Schroeder.
"Good grief!" sighed Charlie Brown.
"We lost?! Even with my naturally curly hair?!" cried Frieda.
"Rats!" muttered Peppermint Patty.
Schroeder and Heather walked out onto the stage to obtain their trophies.
"Thank you, everyone!" said Schroeder.
"Thanks, everybody! Thank you for this prize!" smiled Heather.
"However, this trophy doesn't belong to me." said Schroeder.
Everyone gasped.
"Beethoven is my one and only. Music is my only passion. Heather, if you please?" Said Schroeder.
Schroeder walked backstage, while Heather remained.
"This trophy has to go to someone. If Schroeder can't have it….. Think, Heather, think….." said Heather. "I've got it! Is there a Charlie Brown out there?"
"Me?!" Charlie Brown was most surprised.
"Really, Heather?" groaned Lucy.
"Come on out, Charlie Brown!" called Heather.
Charlie Brown was surprised. Even though he didn't perform with Heather, he got the other trophy.
"I….. I don't know what to say!" smiled Charlie Brown.
"Charlie Brown. You and Frieda performed so well tonight in your magic act, I want you to have Schroeder's trophy." Said Heather.
"Th… thank you, Heather!" Charlie Brown stammered.
When it was time for everyone to go home, Charlie Brown walked out with Frieda.
"Frieda. Do you want this trophy?" asked Charlie Brown.
"No, Charlie Brown. You keep it." Smiled Frieda.
"But Heather offered it to us." Said Charlie Brown.
"Thanks, Charlie Brown, but no thanks. The only prize I've earned tonight is having naturally curly hair." Bragged Frieda.
"Good grief! Well, goodnight, Frieda." Said Charlie Brown.
"Goodnight, Charlie Brown. And well done performing with me." said Frieda as she walked home.
"Thanks!" said Charlie Brown.
In Frieda's absence, Schroeder walked by with his piano, and Charlie Brown stopped him.
"Schroeder!" called Charlie Brown.
"Hi, Charlie Brown." Said Schroeder.
"Schroeder. Before you leave, I want to ask you something. Why did you give up this trophy?" asked Charlie Brown.
"Because Heather sang and danced so beautifully, my music was no match for it. Plus, half of her song was about you, and I thought you'd want this trophy." Said Schroeder.
"Gee. Thanks, Schroeder!" said Charlie Brown.
"Well, goodnight, Charlie Brown." Said Schroeder as he walked off.
"Goodnight, Schroeder."
Peppermint Patty, Marcie, and Franklin walked out.
"Hi, Chuck! Great magic show tonight!" said Peppermint Patty.
"Thanks, Patty." Said Charlie Brown.
"You were terrific, Charles." Smiled Marcie.
"Thanks, Marcie." Said Charlie Brown.
"Charlie, my man. Your magic act was awesome!" said Franklin.
"Thanks, Franklin." Said Charlie Brown. "You three were awesome too!"
"Er, Charlie Brown. We have to go home now. Goodnight." Said Franklin as he walked off.
"Goodnight, Charles. And well done getting that trophy." Said Marcie. Then she turned to Peppermint Patty. "Come on, Sir. Let's go home."
"See you, Chuck! Great work!" said Peppermint Patty.
Peppermint Patty held out her hand, and Charlie Brown shook it. Peppermint Patty looked down at her hand and got excited.
"You're holding my hand, Chuck! You sly dog!" Peppermint Patty swooned.
While walking home, Marcie and Peppermint Patty talked with each other.
"You're not upset that we didn't win, are you, Sir?" asked Marcie.
"Nah. Winning isn't everything, Marcie. That's something Chuck shows us all the time." Peppermint Patty said.
"And are you still jealous, Sir?" asked Marcie.
"Of Heather? Nah. She can have Chuck. That song of hers was so beautiful, I was moved to tears. I now know that Chuck would rather be with Heather than with me." said Peppermint Patty, finally accepting how Charlie Brown felt about Heather.
"I feel the same way, Sir. I know he'll never fall for a girl who wears glasses like me." sighed Marcie.
Meanwhile, Heather was talking with Janice and Mimi.
"Did you enjoy my singing tonight, Janice and Mimi?" asked Heather.
"It was so lovely, Heather." Said Janice. "I realised you were talking about me, and that moved me to tears."
"I'll wait for Linus too. I want to see him before I leave." Said Mimi.
"Okay then. I'll go outside and meet Charlie Brown. Ensuring he hadn't left already." Said Heather.
"Well, goodnight, Heather." Said Janice.
"Goodnight, Janice. Goodnight, Mimi. All the best." Said Heather.
"All the best to you too, Heather." Smiled Mimi.
In Heather's absence, the last people to exit the auditorium were Linus, Sally, and Harold Angel. Linus saw Janice and…..
"Mimi!" cried Linus.
"Good grief!" groaned Sally. "Come on, Harold Angel. Let's get outta here before my sweet babboo gets fresh with these girls."
Sally and Harold Angel walked out of the school and found Charlie Brown.
"Hi, Sally. Hi, Harold Angel." Said Charlie Brown.
"Hey, Big Brother! Great performance you did tonight! And you got the trophy from Heather?" said Sally.
"Thanks, Sally. And you, Linus and Harold Angel were great too." Said Charlie Brown.
"Thanks, Big Brother." Said Sally.
"Come on, Sally. Let's go home together." Smiled Charlie Brown.
Back in the school, Linus was talking with Janice and Mimi.
"You were wonderful tonight, Linus!"
"I agree." Said Mimi.
"Thanks, Janice. Thanks, Mimi." Said Linus.
"Er, I have to go now, Linus. Nice seeing you again. And Janice, it was nice meeting you." said Mimi.
"Nice meeting you too, Mimi." Said Janice.
"What did you think of Heather's song, Janice?" asked Linus.
"It was beautiful, Linus. Half of it was about me, and part of it was about you. The other half I knew she was singing about Charlie Brown." Said Janice.
"I figured." Said Linus.
"The song made me realise something. I was wrong to berate you. I just didn't even know about Mimi until Heather told me. And Linus, I'm sorry for what I said about 'So long forever'." Apologised Janice.
"That's alright, Janice. Friends again?" asked Linus.
"Friends again." Said Janice. "More than friends again, Sweet Babboo!"
With that, Janice hugged Linus, and Linus hugged back.
"Come on, Janice. I'll walk you home." Said Linus.
"Thanks, Linus." Said Janice. "Anything from my sweet babboo."
Janice kissed Linus' left cheek. Linus, feeling the kiss, blushed as red as the shirt he normally wears. Then, both Janice and Linus held hands, and walked home.
As Heather got out of the school, she noticed…
"Huh?! Where's Charlie Brown? Oh well. I'll thank him tomorrow." Heather decided.
As soon as Charlie Brown got home, he put his trophy next to his dance trophy.
"The blockhead has won it again." Said Charlie Brown to himself. "Though Schroeder won, this still counts as a victory for Good Old Charlie Brown."
Heather had gotten home, and placed her trophy with the trophy she'd won at the winter dance.
"The Little Red-Haired Girl wins again!" she said to herself.
