It had been a long week of undercover work for Tanusha, but it had paid off in the end and she'd been able not only to thwart a potential terror attack but to capture the man behind the plans, not just the stooges.

She rolled her shoulders and neck, dropping from Shadow's cockpit and patting her bird affectionately. The one thing John and Virgil had managed to ensure was that she kept her bird. Her remaining brothers had all helped her smuggle Shadow out, and while no one would admit it out loud, it was the one time Brains had acted completely against Jeff's orders.

Her rooms beckoned her, especially the huge bath, and Kayo picked out her favourite bath salts and relaxed, letting the piping hot water and the smell of jasmine and sandalwood wash the grime off her body and soul.

Sandalwood reminded her wistfully of Scott, and she wondered what he would be up to right now. There was no way, even for her, to keep track of Cloudbase, although she was pretty sure John could manage it.

Sighing, she emptied the bath and dressed in the super-thick dressing gown that Virgil had bought each of them – for mental health purposes – and wandered into her bedroom to dress for dinner. Penny didn't have a dress code for casual family meals, so she threw on her customary cargo pants and t-shirt but left her hair down to dry and made her way to their living room.

A quick glance at the clock told Kayo she had around ten minutes before Lil sounded the dinner gong, so she decided to catch up on the news from the week.

Leaving the 24-hour news channel playing quietly in the background, she stretched out on one of the luxurious couches and opened her tablet to see what else she had missed. Not much, it seemed.

She paused, her sharp ears picking up the words 'Spectrum' and 'shooting' from the screen. Putting the tablet aside immediately, she swung her legs down, full attention on the news broadcast.

It was blurry as usual, Spectrum's technology keeping their Captains as safe as could be in the knowledge that they couldn't block every piece of recording tech. The 'unlike John' rose unbidden and it brought a sharp pang of loss. Even after two years away from her family she still felt their loss keenly, and while she could still talk to John and Virgil, and did talk with Alan regularly, Kayo couldn't remember the last time she had managed to speak to either Scott or Gordon.

Then her breath caught in her throat.

That Captain – there – *that one* – she'd recognise that walk anywhere. Kayo watched as the blurry figure rushed over to the other blurry figure. Gunfire was exchanged.

And then her heart stopped.

In her line of work she'd seen many people get shot. The force at which a bullet hits a body makes for interesting movements, and that jerking of Scott's body told her he'd been hit, and not just once.

She froze the screen and reached for her comm as her heart decided to go for hammering her chest instead of stopping.

'EOS?'

'Yes, Kayo?'

As expected John's daughter was instantly there, and Kayo smiled to herself.

'Tell me.'

'Of course.'

As EOS filled her in on what had happened and everyone in the know, Kayo got up and prowled around the room. She was in the intelligence game, yet she had heard nothing about this incident. She needed to do something.

Checking her calendar, she switched comm, knowing full well EOS would still be listening.

'Penny?'

'Kayo, good to see you. Parker and I are almost home.'

Penny's eyes narrowed as she took in her friend and co-worker's image.

'What's happened?'

'It's Scott. We have work to do.'

'We'll be less than five minutes. Parker?'

'Yes, M'Lady?'

'Step on it.'

'Right you h'are, M'Lady.'
