Always Waiting
Chapter One
Ino's POV:
Ino loved many things. Flowers of different colors, shapes, and sizes; and helping out at the flower shop. She also loved her team; smart Shikamaru who always knew what to do, Choji with his endless supply of snacks and their teacher, Asuma. Ino had a pretty good life. But there was someone she loved wayyyy more than anyone:
Sasuke Uchiha.
The way Sasuke kept his bangs over his eyes gave Ino butterflies! His clothes, his attitude, his confidence, his everything was… perfect. It was true love- everyone knew it. Maybe except for Sasuke.
There was one flaw in her love life- Sakura. Sakura was the pink-haired, rosy-cheeked, bright-eyed girl. She always had a smile on her face, no matter the date or time. She was the smartest in Ino's class and every boy seemed to be in love with her. And the worst thing about her? She liked Sasuke too. It must be so nice for her- she was on the same team as Sasuke and she obviously flirted with him every single day.
Ino was getting ready to train when the idea hit her. A smile slowly crept across her face. She grabbed her bag and left for the training grounds.
Sakura's POV: (4 days later)
Sakura was having a fantastic day. Why? Because Sasuke left her a note in her locker. When she opened her locker to get her water bottle, she saw a white piece of paper fly down. She frowned at it, wondering who decided to prank her. She thought it was the idiot, Naruto, who had nothing better to do than obsess over her and ramen. So when she picked it up, she definitely didn't expect Sasuke's neat, printed handwriting neatly laid out across the paper. Her eyes widened in shock as she read the note:
Sakura,
I'm sorry about last week. I wasn't thinking, and I said too much about you. Please let me make it up to you- meet me at the new restaurant, on the table on the far left. Naruto doesn't know about this, because I know the idiot will show up if he knew. Again, I'm sorry.
Sincerely,
Sasuke
Sakura's mouth stretched out into a huge grin as she hugged the note to her chest. Surely Sasuke meant it- last week he'd snapped on Sakura (for the thirteenth time this month) and said one too many things. Things about Sakura's uselessness and how she only cares about him and nothing else. She'd rather not think about it. Everytime she did, she remembered how she fled the scene and sat crying in her bathroom for hours.
It's not like it mattered anyway. Sasuke apologized and she was going on a date with him! Sakura glanced at the clock, shocked at how late she was, and ran to the training grounds. Naruto was there, yelling at Sasuke.
"Hey guys," Sakura said, "Where's Kakashi-sensei?"
"SAKURA! He's probably 'lost' again, that old man. Why don't you sit down next to me?"
Sakura chuckled as she smiled and sat down next to Naruto. Naruto was probably one of the most annoying kids she'd ever met, but he was one of the only ones that didn't bother her about being dead weight on the team. Plus, his energy was contagious! Sakura always felt annoyed and energetic whenever she was with Naruto. Sasuke sat down as well, about five-ish feet from Sakura. Her chest swelled up with happiness and she could have squealed! Sasuke, her one-sided crush for a very long time, had sent her a note, and was taking her on a date!
Sakura gazed at Sasuke and zoned out, completely unaware of Naruto babbling about his ramen and Kakashi leaping out from the trees, claiming that he was "lost on the path or life."
It was like a dream.
Sasuke's POV:
There were many things in this world that Sasuke called "annoying." First of all, Naruto and his idiotic gibberish and always competing with Sasuke. Second, the whole entourage of fangirls at his side, wherever he went. The sappy letters and chocolate they sent him always ended up with the trash. Third, Sakura Haruno. There was just- something about her that made Sasuke internally cringe and take a step back. Was it her childish attitude, constant physical touch, or the high-pitched squeals she made when she saw Sasuke? Whatever it was, it was definitely decreasing rapidly. In fact, Sasuke also felt a little happy when he saw Sakura. He also felt jealous when Sakura talked with Naruto or any other boys. He also felt the need to talk to her and protect her during their missions.
But Sasuke had to stop.
If there was anything he shouldn't do, it was to fall in love. He bet he'd get over it and Sakura would just be another annoying fangirl. For his mission, he had to break any connections he'd made. His mission was to kill his brother, Itachi.
Sauke couldn't wait for the day when his task was over, and his clan was restored. He didn't understand why Itachi did what he did- weren't they happy? Weren't they the perfect family? The whole scene still gave him nightmares. Sometimes he zoned out, the day replaying in his head. It was terrible- the day he did that in front of Sakura. Kakashi and Naruto were getting some ramen for everyone after a long mission. Sakura and Sasuke were setting up the picnic. Sasuke had been carrying the basket of snacks when he suddenly dropped them. He didn't know what happened after that, because he could only see the mutilated bodies of his parents on the floor. Then, he felt his shoulders being shaken and heard someone's voice.
"Sasuke? Wake up! Please-"
When he opened his eyes, he was on the grass. Sakura was crouching beside him, holding his quivering hand.
"Are you okay?"
Sakura had tears in her eyes. She helped him sit up.
"Don't do that to me again," she said with a strong voice.
Sasuke HATED himself for that day. One, he was weak in front of Sakura. Two, he never, ever wanted to see the tears in her big, jade eyes again.
