It was a gentle day. Cool winds flew in the air, some birds chirped, and it was bright and sunny. The perfect day for gardening, which was exactly what Ella was doing. She hummed as she turned on her leaf blower and started to blow all the leaves into a pile. "Pushing these beautiful leaves into a big old pile, not minding if it takes quite a while!" She sang as she went, not noticing how loud she was due to the volume of the leaf blower.
Unknown to her, Noah was sitting on his balcony, trying to read his book. He went and turned to Ella, who was blissfully piling the leaves in the apartment garden area. "Woah there, Snow White, maybe turn the decibels down a bit!" He shouted. Ella turned over to him, accidentally blowing some leaves into his face as she turned the leaf blower off. "Oh my goodness, sorry, Noah. I didn't mean to bother you! I'm just tending to the garden. I'll be done in a bit, I promise."
Noah couldn't respond, given he had leaves stuffed in his mouth. He spat them out and simply muttered. "Oh, I hope Noah isn't mad." Ella thought aloud sympathetically. "I suppose my singing can get a tad too loud at times, though." Humming more quietly, she reactivated her machine and continued blowing leaves.
Noah sighed impatiently and set his book down again. "Whatever."
The songbird kept going until she was done and turned off the machine. "A nice and clean yard for all of the apartment residents to see!" She proudly proclaimed. Browsing the area to double check, she saw one final leaf. "Oh, aha, I missed one! You're supposed to be in the pile, you silly little leaf!" She jokingly told off before restarting her blower once more. But when her blower turned on, the leaf went somewhere else. "Oh no, come back!" Ella cried and chased the leaf as it flew through the wind.
As it flew, it found its way back into Noah's apartment, landing square on his nose. "Gah! What the!?" Some fast footsteps came to his hall, and knocks were heard on the door. He unlocked the door to answer it, only to be met with his neighbor.
"Noah, this cute little leaf got blown into here by mistake! Have you seen it?" Ella questioned as she looked around Noah's apartment.
The know-it-all simply gave her a deadpan stare, then looked at his nose. "Gee, I dunno. Tried using your eyeballs yet?" He rudely quipped before he turned to throw it away, only for it to fall off his face and into the halls. "Oh dear, I have to get that leaf back." And Ella dashed off.
"Come back, little leaf!" She panted, as it flew everywhere, onto a man's head as he was drinking his morning brew, to a woman sketching in a book. "Sorry!" Ella called as she continued chasing the rogue leaf. It then landed straight in a blonde girl's face. "Oh my goodness, sorry, Sugar!" Ella cried. "You did that on purpose!" The large blonde yelled, and raised her hand, ready to smite Ella. Then the leaf flew again, right into her face. The lady stumbled backwards until she fell onto a couch, again forcing Ella to continue her pursuit. "This ain't over!" The country girl shouted.
The offending leaf made its way outside and landed on a branch just outside of a window. "Oh, how am I gonna get that?" Ella pondered, as the branch was a little high for her. "It would be shameful if I just left it alone. I did want to tidy the garden and all." She thought. She then looked at the big tree, and puffed up her little cheeks. "One foot at a time! Unfinished duties would be a crime~" She claimed through a ditty. She panted and sweated, climbing what was essentially a strange two story set of stairs, but at last she saw the branch. "You've been a naughty little leaf." Ella said. "But I'll get you back with the others! I'm not one to break a promise." She then carefully shimmied onto the branch, her arm barely reaching the leaf.
Her finger only barely felt the little leaf, before it blew away, right onto Ella's pile. Suddenly, the branch snapped, and Ella nearly hurdled down. She grasped her skirt and landed daintely on her feet. Her breath was quick and shallow. She looked down to herself, and then back at the pile of leaves. "For a garden day, that was exhilarating." She commented, picking herself back up where she left off.
