The park was calm and peaceful, which gave Ella the idea to go birdwatching. She looked out into the distance, commenting on many of the pretty birds she saw. "What a lovely little blue bird over there!" The raven-haired girl praised as it flew by.

"That's a sialia, or a bluebird if you wanna go by the common name." A random passerby with orange hair, green glasses, green pants, and a blue shirt with a hamburger planet on it explained. "They're mostly omnivorous birds in the order of passerines in the sialia genus."

Ella didn't understand what most of that meant, but she was still quite intrigued by what the random stranger told her. "Oh, that's very interesting! What about that adorable little green one?" She questioned, pointing down at a bird that was happily pecking away at the grass for food.

"The Colibri Thalassinus, also known as the Mexican Violetear." He geeked. Ella was very impressed. "Why thank you… Oh, pardon, I don't know your name."

He went and shook her hand. "Harold Norbert Cheever Doris McGrady the 5th." He readjusted his glasses. "But you can just call me Harold if you want." Ella nodded. "Well, thank you, Harold. It was nice meeting you." She went back to her bench and he followed. "So I noticed your attire is medieval based. You're a fantasy fan?" Harold inquired. "Why yes, I loved princesses back then, and I still do now." She swooned, thinking fondly of when she'd read about Snow White or Sleeping Beauty, among many others. "Oh, that's cool. My friend Leonard and I are playing a C'nC game tomorrow. You can join us near noon. I hope you accept this humble invitation." He put in. Ella beamed. "I'll be there as soon as I can!" She was excited to hear that someone shared her interests.

After they traded some information, she scurried home as fast as she could, but as she did, she took the street Sammy's home was on, and she couldn't help but tell her girlfriend about the day she had.

"Hello? OMG, hi, Ella!" Sammy exclaimed, opening her door. She embraced her princess's warm hug. "How was your bird watching session?" She asked as Ella went to sit on the couch. "It was amazing! I met this boy. His name was Harold, and he's quite knowledgeable about all of the birds!" Sammy smiled. "Oh I know him, he was really helpful in Mr. Samad's math lectures." As they were talking Amy came by. "Oh, are you talking about that nerdy guy? Dark blue shirt? Talk on campus is that he and Leshawna are a thing."

"Why yes, we were, he's a pretty nice boy, all things considered." Ella smiled. "I'm sure if he and Leshawna were in love, they would be very proud of one another." Amy just rolled her eyes. "He's still ultra dorky." She added. "Well, I don't mind it that much, I'm actually going to his house for a little game." Ella stated.

"That's nice." Sammy beamed, then got up to make a coffee for herself. "Hope you like basements." Amy snarked, and she rummaged through the fridge for something to eat.

"It seems like a nice and cozy place to play a game!" The songbird happily commented.

Amy rolled her eyes again but said nothing more.

"Well, I suppose I'll see you two-" Realizing that only one of the twins was still present, the singer quickly corrected herself. "Ah, I'll see you later then!"

She was seen in her house after that, sitting on her couch in the living room and petting Mittens, who was comfortably laying in her lap. "It's just all so exciting!" The princess expressed to herself. "I can't take my mind off of it. I just love the idea of playing a wonderful board game with some new friends!"

She'd been doing her own research on the game for the past hour or two with her phone so she knew what to do, which only increased her eagerness. Ella was so involved in the game she was unaware of the time that was passing as she kept writing notes about things to do when she met Harold next time.

The next morning, Ella was sound asleep, clutching her blue penguin plushie tightly. Her cat Mittens crawled up to her, tickling her with his whiskers, making her wake up with a giggle. "Good morning, Mittens." She yawned. "Goodness, I'm more tired than usual. I may have stayed up just a tad too late." She trudged to her kitchen to get her breakfast.

"It may be somewhat tempting to go back to bed," She contemplated as she waited for the toaster to finish, "but I must stay strong and attend the game! I cannot let my friends down!" After finishing her meal, she went to pack some snacks and was on her way.

Soon, she arrived at Harold's address and dinged the little doorbell, and he answered suit. "Greetings, my fair bard. Would you be so kind as to enter my chambers?" He greeted, revealing that his basement door was opened. "Why yes, sir Harold." She slurred, as she wandered into the dark deep basement, where a boy in a green hoodie sat, with a fake gray beard and all.

"Welcome, new traveler!" The boy - likely Leonard, the princess recalled - addressed. "Our group has been in dire need of a bard to lift our spirits as we attempt to slay the evil dragon!"

"Then I shall help you on your quest!" Ella proclaimed excitedly, past her sleepiness. She got in her seat as the game began.

After Ella and the rest of the group exchanged formal introductions, they began the game. The songbird was practically just playing another version of herself, but the others were both playing something unique. Leonard was playing as a mage character that he claimed was one of his favorites that was still easy to understand for a newcomer. His character could cast many various spells. Harold, on the other hand, was simply the dungeon master and storyteller, coming up with various objectives to clear on their way to the dragon.

"Leonard is currently sitting in a crowded bar with only one seat open, which is the one next to him." The nerd began. "Ella, you enter and take the seat next to him, ordering your beverage of choice."

When she was sure Harold was done talking, the princess wondered something. "Are there any drinks that aren't alcoholic in bars back then? I don't typically like to consume them."

"Many bars do sell milk!" Leonard chipped in.

"May I make my character drink it?"

Harold shrugged. "Roll without modifiers to see what the milk does to you."

Ella rolled a d20 and got a 10.

"The milk mostly does nothing, but it gives you a slight headache."

At that moment, the princess's head started hurting slightly, but she said nothing about it.

Minus some minor mishaps involving drowsiness symptoms like responding a bit slower during her turns, everything went smoothly for the next few turns. However, after some time, Ella began to drift off. She could tell that Harold was saying something, but she subconsciously drowned it out.

The next thing she knew, the others called her name, rousing the girl. "Hmm?" She tiredly grunted. Looking around, she realized where she was. "Oh, ah, m-my apologies!" She stammered.

"Does our game bore you?" Leonard politely inquired.

"No, I didn't mean it like that, I promise!" The songbird insisted. "I-I just…" She tried to defend, but she started to nod off again. She shook her head, attempting to keep herself awake.

Harold kept talking about things like trolls and goblins, but Ella couldn't hear him. She was too focused on keeping her eyes open in order to listen, so she ironically didn't listen at all. When she heard a spot of silence because she didn't want to interrupt, she spoke up. "Pardon me, but, um, may I excuse myself for just a moment?"

"Okay, just make sure you don't get eaten by dragons along the way." Leonard joked. Ella didn't notice as she was looking for somewhere to pull herself together. "I'm dreadfully tired. There must be something to keep me awake." She wandered through the nerd's house. it looked very old fashioned but cute with all the little things, like a cat clock on the stairway. She managed to crack a small smile at this, not paying attention to where she was going. Her foot slipped off of the stairs, leading to a gasp as she tightened her grip on the rail. The songbird breathed a sigh of relief and made sure to pay attention to where she was going the rest of the way up.

On the second floor were some rooms. One was marked with a privacy notice, so she thought it would be the bathroom. She went to knock on the door, only to hear a woman's voice. "Harold, honey, I'm sorry, but you'll have to wait to use your chapstick. Mommy's busy with something." Ella didn't want to interrupt Harold's mother, so she went to find another place to clean her face.

As she went through the halls, she went back downstairs. Checking each and every room, she ended up stumbling upon the guest bedroom by mistake. She tripped onto the bed as the lights were dim in that room. "Oh, this feels like a bed, but I must stay… awake, no, I shouldn't sleep. I don't need this… I don't- I definitely don-" and she started to drift into her sweet dreams, curling up like a cat at the foot of the bed.

Back in the basement, Harold and Leonard were wondering where the princess had gone. "Maybe she fell in." Harold thought, knowing his friend had that happen once. "No, naidens don't fall in." Leonard inputted. "We should probably look for her then. She doesn't seem like she'd ditch us." Harold thought it was best that both boys went out in search of Ella.

"Over here." Leonard whispered, as he saw Ella sleep peacefully. Harold entered, trying not to wake the girl. "Must have tuckered herself out." Harold was about to leave, when the doorbell rang. "Harold baby, I got a surprise for you!" Called a deep energetic voice, This woke Ella.

"Oh dearie me! Oh Harold, I am so sorry, I didn't mean to slumber, I was focused on the game as best as I could-" She stammered, worried she had upset her new friends. "It's okay, maiden, don't worry." Leonard joked, pulling Ella back onto her feet. "Pardon my asking, Leonard, but where did Harold go?"

As she exited the guest room, she saw a large woman tightly grasping Harold in a warm embrace. She couldn't help but love the sight. "Oh, Leshawna, meet our new friend Ella. I saw her in the park and asked if she'd like to join our game." Leshawna just snickered. "Yeah, she looks the part too. Nice to meet you, honey." She said, lending Ella a hand, she took it and gave a good shake. "It's very nice to meet you, Leshawna." She said. Ella then looked over to Harold. "Sorry I fell asleep. I was so excited for today that I pushed myself to learn everything about the game so I could play with you better." She clasped her hands together. "Unfortunately, I must have studied so much that I missed out on the game."

"It's no biggie. We can try again another time if you want." Harold offered. "And I could bring my best pal Tammy." Leonard put it. Ella smiled, they all had a wonderful goodbye, Leshawna even danced for them.

A/N: This chapter was a little harder than usual to plan out, but I hope it's enjoyable. The scene with the twins and Ella is just meant to be confirmation that the characters are in college here, along with Sammy's role as Ella's girlfriend in the SpongElla AU. There were hints towards it in the original story with Ella as SpongeBob, but it wasn't outright confirmed. Because of that, we decided to put it here. While Sammy (and Amy) don't specifically take character's roles like the other characters, they're still important for certain stories and will normally appear in the love-centered ones, or ones with hints of romance.
